elcome to the Africa Mining Summit III Post-Event Report where, GRV Global would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all those who participated in the third annual holding of this important event; a series promoting innovative, sustainable and responsible mining across Africa through public-private partnerships (PPPs). Following a hugely encouraging, enjoyable and productive few days at the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort in Botswana, this report contains a detailed overview of the various workshops and plenary sessions, exhibition, afternoon matchmaking meetings, networking functions, and charity golf day including a large selection of photographs from the Summit. GRV Global would like to pass on our sincere gratitude to the various Government, Chamber, International & United Nations agency officials, mine owners and developers that joined our discussion panels across the two days, and were committed to meeting with event delegates throughout our afternoon matchmaking meeting sessions. We are extremely grateful for their kind time and support not only during the week of AMS 2017 but also, for their assistance during the build up to the event. GRV Global would like to express special thanks to H.E. Amb. Albert M. Muchanga, Commissioner of Trade & Industry at the African Union Commission (AUC), and to Hon. Advocate Sadique Kebonang, Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology & Energy Security of the Government of Botswana - to their wonderful teams and for their unwavering assistance with helping to organise our 3rd Africa Mining Summit. Additionally, we would also like to thank Alan Clegg Pr.Eng., Independent Mining & Energy Consultant, and Executive Chairman of Shumba Energy, who so expertly fulfilled the role of Conference Chair across the two days, utilising his vast experience and dedication to Africa’s mining sector. In its third year, the Africa Mining Summit has once again been heralded as a significant success by both the participating officials and private-sector delegates alike; testimonials of which can be found later in this report. We welcomed over 200 local and international participants to Gaborone and facilitated over a thousand face-to-face matchmaking meetings. Many important mining factors and challenges regarding the sector’s lasting development were discussed and some extremely valuable experiences and knowledge was shared. As a result of this event, and GRV Global’s ethos of personable engagement, longstanding collaborations are sure to result and ultimately, a stronger base on which to boost and develop the mining sector through PPPs.

GRV Global would like to thank the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort for its support across the few days. We thank all our local partners/suppliers for helping us to produce world-class materials such as the stage set, banners, invitations and tickets, and of course the Official Event Guide. Lastly and by no means least, GRV Global would truly like to thank our Summit Sponsors for their support and attendance without which, events of this magnitude and importance would simply not be possible. The support shown by our partners and sponsors was emphatic and a true testament to the potential they see for mining across the African continent. Thank you for joining us in Gaborone; we look forward to welcoming you next year and continuing our close efforts with the African Union Commission (AUC). Andy Dowell | CEO GRV Global

AFRICA MINING SUMMIT 2017 POST-EVENT REPORT GRV Global’s third Africa Mining Summit (AMS2017), held at the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort, Gaborone, was a resounding success; bringing together regional Governments, agencies, investors, developers and key mining companies to join the discussion in achieving the Africa Mining Vision and much more. Building on previous years (Istanbul and Dar es Salaam), the two day event focussed on direct engagement through high-level plenary discussions, social networking functions and 1-2-1 afternoon matchmaking meetings between public and private sector entities. Once again, AMS2017 welcomed leading local, regional and global operators from across the mining industry, representing a range of sectors, to hear from and meet with senior African government officials, UN heads, international agencies, chambers and NGOs, all focused on furthering the continent’s efforts to promote long-term development through sustainable mining solutions and advancements in technology. Whilst setup was underway within the Tsodilo Suites, with sponsors preparing their exhibition booths, Africa Mining Summit III commenced with an informal ‘ice-breaker’ Evening Reception overlooking the resort grounds. Participants were able to register, collect their access passes and delegate packs whilst enjoying a relaxed evening of networking accompanied by canapes and refreshments; an ideal opportunity for early introductions and discussion around the major talking points ahead.

Africa Mining Summit III delegates then enjoyed a Networking Lunch Break, digesting the morning’s discussion highlights with newly established colleagues, over traditional meals within the resort’s exterior dining area, overlooking the championship golf course, before the much-anticipated afternoon Matchmaking Meetings. Pre-event, delegates had been able to select their preferred one-to-one meetings with the event’s delegation of VIP speakers and officials. Through 15 minute, roundtable meetings, delegates were able to move around the room, following their own personalised schedule, personally introducing themselves to officials and strike up collaborations that would go on to aid the continent’s efforts for lasting stability and development across the mining sector. In all, the event’s first day saw hundreds of private meetings take place and participants were quick to identify the format’s value and praised their efficiency and effectiveness. After a very long first day of discussions and meetings, Summit participants enjoyed a Cultural Dinner overlooking the Phakalane Golf Estate Hotel Resort’s lake and golf course, in a relaxed and casual setting (Jacana’s Nest), featuring fine cuisine, a delicious Botswanan barbeque and refreshments whilst being thoroughly entertained with music from Liesel Graham. It proved to be an ideal opportunity for all to reflect on the day’s talking points whilst continuing the discussions they had already started during the afternoon matchmaking meetings.

Day Two: Thursday 12 October

POST-EVENT REPORT for Botswanan economic diversification in order to continue development and add to Africa Mining Vision efforts (headed by H.E. Amb. Albert M. Muchanga), an initiative commended by Hon. Fred Moyo, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Mines & Mining Development from Zimbabwe for its initial success. Speaking on common challenges, H.E. Amb. Albert M. Muchanga identified the need for the continent’s societies to benefit from their wealth of resources, as Dr. Ezbon Mill Adde Andu, South Sudan’s Undersecretary of Ministry of Mining agreed, greater success also rested in greater control of the investment flow on the continent. After a very engaging and informative Ministerial Panel Discussion, Summit delegates were once again able to enjoy pastries, tea and coffee out in the Gaborone sunshine through our morning networking break. Heading back to the Tsodilo Suites, James Campbell would lead Panel 5: COUNTRY MODELS THAT ARE WORKING AND WHY? What should be the trend for a united & common African mining development protocol or code? discussing successful models, competition, myth busting and the climate for exploration where, why & which commodity? This enlightening session welcomed a panel with Patrick Leyden, Director of Herbert Smith Freehills South Africa, Charles Siwawa, Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Chamber of Mines, and Ashley Jones, Operations Manager of A-Cap Resources. During the discussion Mr. Leyden noted that Botswana has been the most consistent country in mining for approximately 5 years, in addition to the DRC, Zambia and Ivory Coast making significant progress. Additionally, Charles Siwawa asserted that the revenue coming from Debswana benefits the country, which stands to set a trend and good model for other countries. Ashley Jones stated, from a financial perspective, that it was important for African countries to ascertain how to gain more risk capital to grow the industry. 8

Hon. Fred Moyo, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Mines & Mining Development from Zimbabwe Moving immediately to Panel 6: INNOVATION – People, Technology & Communications, Alessandro Cardoso, Sales Director for Africa of SES Networks, would fulfil the role of Chair discussing inspiring innovation through leadership and adopting technology (its lead on equipment and process development) and production efficiency, security and its impact on people. Also assessing and accepting risk and developing skills for the future. The panel unanimously believed technology allowed for greater connectivity and made it safer to work in the mines as suggested by Edwin Elias, Head of Ore Processing of Debswana Mining Company, with Theresa (Tracey) Cooper, Executive Director of Mining Dialogues 360, suggesting that the mining industry will innovate and be able to keep up with the technological changes as it has done since the industrial revolution. When questioned during the Q&A, on the future of energy, Emmanuel Coffie-Anum, HSE Coordinator of Ghana Manganese Company Limited, remarked that he would like to see solar energy brought to far greater use across the mining sector. Noleen Pauls, Principal Geoscientist at Reflex (EMEA) & Former Chairperson of International Women in Mining South Africa (IWiMSA) assessed that there needs to be greater education to stir the interest and introduction of more women in mining in the future.

The AMS17 was openly described from the start by co-host and Patron, the African Union Commissioner of Trade & Industry (AUCTI), Ambassador Albert Muchanga as an ‘Institution’ supported by the AU to generate alignment and understanding between member states Ministers and ministries of Mines and Energy and the private sector to join these key stakeholders in Africa to engage formally in developing and shaping exploitation of Africa’s continental & coastal natural resources and related industrial profile. Further, the AUCTI placed emphasis on the event as a platform for Policy debate towards mobilising the private sector towards and within the African Mining Vision (AMV) released by the AU in 2009 and as a ‘Blueprint for Structural Transfer of African Economies’. To this he informed the delegates of the Private Sector Compact (PSC) developed and now under execution as a tool to facilitate dialogue to reduce and share risk. The specific vehicle(s) used in the PSC for this are created within the African Minerals Governance Framework (AMGF), as common platform for transparency consisting of Regional Chambers of Mines across the continent and the Societies of Mining Associations. The keynote address by the Botswana Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology & Energy Security, Hon. Minister Sadique Kebonang highlighted a number of local and continental challenges while emphasising, that “Theses need to become action at country level across the continent” and that, analyses of impact, economic and earned value of the Mineral resources development needs to be fully considered.

From my own opening comments below that were echoed by Minister Kebonang, the scene was set for strong and healthy discussion & debate within the topical panels. The past business period was filled with mixed sentiment in the global mining sectoral environment compounded by resource nationalism extremes in some countries, in particular in Latin America and Africa. Generally, though, the mining & natural resources investment market remained positive even within the volatile economic and political environment, with precious metals (Gold & Silver) marching upward on demand for risk hedging against government & public debt levels, US Dollar weakness and fear of Fiat currency failure. Base metals and related Base metals stocks continued to rise on LME stock depletion, stronger than expected economic demand and continued significant capital inflows and massively increased exploration and development activity in the infrastructure commodities and energy storage or battery metals have underwritten this further. Some key environmental features of the discussions and debate, much focussing on the year to date in 2017 are as follows: • Mixed sentiment in the global mining & energy sectoral environment compounded negatively in the SADC region by resource nationalism. • Mining & natural resources investment markets remain positive even within the volatile economic and political environment and risk hedging against government & public debt levels.

• A continuing volatile and sentiment driven investment environment compounded by central bank monetary system manipulation driving mineral commodity prices steadily higher. • Junior Mining Company Valuations strongly positive, in particular in the precious metals, infrastructure commodities, energy fuels and battery metals. • AISC (All in Sustaining Costs) improvements, ongoing productivity initiatives and capital investment in technologies is also a continuing trend of management teams across the globe. • Mergers and acquisitions in the Junior and Mid-Cap sector continues with even higher frequency than 2016. • Exploration programs, project developments, and old mines are being restarted, in particular in the base & precious metals commodities, but also in energy fuels (Uranium & Coal) or related energy storage metals (Cobalt) & mineral salts (Lithium).

And, by way of an outlook as students of the world at large we must continue to monitor closely the ‘experts’ conversation. Nothing has changed in this area and the totally failed confidence and predicted collapse of the FIAT Currency system and its replacement by some other more secure exchange unit continues unabated. While the central banking experiment with negative interest rates seems to have gone, the tiny incremental interest rate increases that have been imposed has still left real rates at zero to negative. This continues to underscore the uncertainty and as societal and political structures continue to breakdown worldwide, war cycles are ramping up across the globe, with decreasing confidence in central banking and other key financial and currency based infrastructures. The mining & minerals development sector in Africa should begin to benefit significantly from market commodity positioning as we move in to 2018 and beyond. The clear investment trend

Conference Chair in ‘stuff’ that is physical and tradeable including infrastructure and energy related commodities, like Copper, Zinc, both of which are already in or close to supply/demand deficit, Battery metals (Cobalt & Lithium) and/or the Junior Mining Equities that hold such assets or the technologies to enhance them. This therefore continues to offer us and all stakeholders and investors on the continent strong fundamentals in the business and in the progressive project developments. From the first panel discussions and presentations, we heard more about the AMV which, sets real Questions and not answers, is designed to create alignment and mutual trust among stakeholders that is to be propagated through our continental Chambers of Mines. The African Minerals & Geoscience Centre (AMGC) informed us about the important role they are playing is providing services and training, propagating standards and professionalism and engaging the private sector and government(s). Further panels covered important trends related with benchmarking, especially in cost controls and determination and sustainability of AISC (All in Sustaining Cost), productivity and efficiency. Technology leveraging, in particular in deployment of beneficiation tools and technologies that are available but not yet widely adopted or even adopted at all, despite being patented and proven. Cultivation of the talent that exists was also noted as requiring more focus at all levels. Issues around finance, financing and investment were discussed, including the role of banks and the restrictions and problems caused by regulation. Financial design for individual projects and companies was highlighted as important as there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ and the alignment to the Mining development value chain, in some cases elementally, needs to be considered for the type and size of funding required. The ongoing and growing importance of continental development banks was also highlighted. The positives and negatives of public markets was also debated vigorously and the related need to cultivate a retail investment market awareness at grass roots level to facilitate the growth in ‘Investment Money’ inflows from continental sources rather than from outside. 22

And all of the above was just in the first day! The second day was also rewarding with further energetic discussion and debate led by a Ministerial panel on the linkages and communication between governments, breaking down borders, facilitating better logistics on all forms of movement of professionals, companies, and materials engaged in Mining, including the potential in the formation of a Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) for full value chain exploitation of Africa’s mineral endowment. Country models were also addressed, highlighting the structural challenges and changes required by some, such that reference to those that are successful may be learned from and prevent polarisation of views and interests that has become known to Investors and the public at large as resource nationalism. Energy Fuels and Power supply remains an important topic that was discussed at some depth. The availability of electrical energy remaining central to Africa development of its mineral endowment and growing deficits are in this regard of concern. Innovation in general is very much alive on the continent and the importance around its mobilisation and practical use through people, technology deployment and communications was also highlighted as a creator of opportunity and a development foundation stone. On top of all of the above panel sessions we ofcourse had the GRV winning formula of the ‘One to One’ roundtable meeting sessions on the first day. These were again animated and very successful speaking just from my own personal experience and where it was clear that new relationships that would add value and momentum to the Africa Vision were being made. So, with all of the above, I am sure you will agree that the event was an again an unqualified success and that you will join me in applauding the AUCTI and Botswana Ministry for the support for this event and GRVglobal for organising it. I now look forward to the AMS IV in 2018 the venue for which will be advised in the first quarter of 2018. I shall look forward to seeing you there.
