And don’t forget our leadership opportunities for our older Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts can expand their Southlake horsemanship knowledge, serve as a Fort Worth Counselor in Training (CIT), or serve as a Camp Aide (CA). Our leadership programs combine exciting summer camp activities with leadership training, resulting in a unique, fun, and specialized adventure for Girl Scouts who LOVE camp.

Stevens Ranch GSTOP Corporate Office

In addition to Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, Inc. policies and standards, summer camps are governed by the Texas Youth Camp Safety and Health Act. Our camps are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). The ACA is a nationally recognized standard of quality for program, health, and safety. 1 | Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains | 2024 Camp Guide

This summer, camp themes are back at each of our summer camps. Whether your Girl Scout wants to Zoom to the Moon at Camp Timberlake, experience Water World at Camp Kiwanis, or practice her Wizard Science at Stevens Ranch, she can enjoy a different theme each week.

This camp guide helps you and your Girl Scout make the right decision of which camp session to attend. Review the Girl Scout Camp Progression chart on page 6. Check out the “Are You Ready for Camp?” quiz on page 8. You can pick your camp sessions starting on page 9. We look forward to seeing your Girl Scout this summer at one of our summer camps. Sincerely,

CEO, Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains www.gs-top.org

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains camps believe racism and hate have no place at camp, as Girl Scout camps are a place for all girls to belong. Through camp programming and staff training, GSTOP advances diversity, pluralism, and anti-racism and actively identifies and opposes racism by removing systemic barriers to participation. Look for camp fun facts throughout this guide!

Camp Testimonies I would recommend a Girl Scout camp to a friend because you have fun and make new friends.

This camp is always the highlight of my summer!

I’ve improved in my confidence, survival skills, and social skills at camp.

My kid is an only child, and this was a dream for her.

I get to do stuff I don’t get to do anywhere else.

The counselors were fun and they genuinely seem to care about the campers.

Camping is a fun-filled, character-building experience that girls can try out for short periods of time. Outdoor settings provide us with a remarkable opportunity to take girls from many backgrounds and put them together on neutral territory and let them get to know one another. Where else can they so easily mingle, have fun, and learn new skills? The one place where the best in Girl Scouting converges is Girl Scout camp. Fun, challenges, adventures, and friendships in a camp setting are small versions -- child-sized versions -- of real life. The camping program captures the essence of everything Girl Scouting stands for and helps girls ‘to do.’ It is up to us to make certain that this important part of Girl Scouting remains part of the future of the girls in the movement.

The Keeper of the Ashes A Keeper of the Ashes is one camper per session who is chosen by the staff. The camper could be the most helpful person, the most improved camper, or the quiet achiever that you never have to worry about – there is not one specific type of camper that could be named the Keeper of the Ashes. The “Keeper of the Ashes” is presented with a cute jar with ashes from the campfire during the closing campfire.

Look for the Tajar! A Tajar is something like a tiger, something like a jaguar, and something like a badger. Tajar lives all around the campgrounds and and appears - usually at night! - to be mischievous and dance in the moonlight. Tajar started as staff engagement and has turned into a camp tradition. Campers and staff can write notes to Tajar, and sometimes Tajar writes back!
