Lubbock, Abilene, Wichita Falls, and Fort Worth, we want to give every girl the chance to do something amazing.
“Girl Scouts has changed my life in amazing ways.” Makenzie is one of us. One of 20,730 girl members learning how to take the lead and create positive change in her community. We’re also 7,351 adult members who support those girls, helping them maximize their potential, learn new skills, and be their best selves.
Courage. Confidence. Character.
Volunteers Add Value. If you’re a volunteer, you are amazing to us.
In Girl Scouts, girls gain those three things and more1 by learning to lead through hands-on, collaborative experiences. 79% learned by working with others. 67% experienced Girl Scouting in a hands-on way. 60% had the chance to take the lead.
The girls have more fun, learn skills, earn badges, and make lifelong friends because of you. You donated $6 million worth of time, talent, motivation, and creativity in 2016.
Thank you!

“Selling cookies allows you to meet your neighbors and connect with the community. It also allows you to learn about business.” Girl Programs: THE GIRL SCOUT COOKIE PROGRAM
Teaching Essential Skills for a Lifetime
3
Girls often first learn about business and entrepreneurship from the Girl Scout Cookie Program. They develop five lifelong skills: goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills, and business ethics—key in 21st century business and finance. All funds raised in product sales support girl programming. A portion stays with the troops for funding their year-long Girl Scout activities. This year, troops kept $1,540,108 for funding service projects, travel, and events.

“Many of my girls are working on their Silver Award. As the girls grow, they continue to amaze me with their strength and willingness to explore new adventures.” HIGHEST AWARDS
Awards are one of the highlights of the Girl Scout experience. Number of Awards Earned
5
Girls work hard to earn their awards, which symbolize their dedication to making the world a better place. Journey Awards teach Girl Scouts what it takes to be a leader. On Journeys throughout their Girl Scout experience, girls learn the three “Keys to Leadership”: Discover, Connect, and Take Action. They earn one to three Journey Awards on each path. Girls who complete all of the Journey Awards available at their grade level earn the Journey Summit Award, demonstrating that they know what it means to be a leader. The Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards represent the greatest honors a Girl Scout can earn. All three awards give girls the chance to make a huge impact in their communities—and beyond—while working on an issue that is important to them.

Bronze Award The Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. Girls spend at least 20 hours building a Bronze Award team, exploring their community, choosing a project, planning it, putting it in motion, and spreading the word about their project.
Silver Award Earning the Silver Award—the highest award for a Girl Scout Cadette—gives girls the chance to do big things and make their community better in the process. Girls spend at least 50 hours earning the award and may complete it as a small group or individually.
Gold Award In 2016, the Girl Scout Gold Award celebrated 100 years as the ultimate achievement in Girl Scouting. Open only to girls in high school, this prestigious award challenges girls to change the world—or at least their corner of it. Girls spend at least 80 hours earning the award and must complete it individually.
Troop 8517 | Wichita Falls Benefitting Holliday ISD, Iowa Park ISD, Wichita Falls ISD The girls in Troop 8517 wanted to make a change when it came to students being bullied. They wrote notes with encouraging messages and gave them to students who were being bullied to show them someone cared. The girls also wanted to empower students by giving them uplifting messages. In addition to personally handing students these notes, the girls would anonymously put positive notes in students’ lockers or binders. They wanted to model this project for other students to spread encouraging words, so they made a video explaining the purpose of their project and how they wanted to make a difference in the lives of students at their schools.
Troop 6382 | Lubbock Benefitting the City of Ralls Troop 6382 noticed that people were no longer going to the park in Ralls because of its poor condition. They decided to take action and repair the park. They first had to seek permission and permits from the city. Then they sanded, painted, and stained the playground equipment. They learned that graffiti is hard to clean and about the different kinds of paint. The impact of giving the park a new life was seen immediately as it became one of the busiest places in Ralls.
Kristen Tatum | Troop 4805 | Aledo Benefitting Parker County Center of Hope Kristen felt a need to teach children about healthy habits after noticing that children in her community were becoming obese, exercising less, and eating more junk food. She developed a Healthy Habits curriculum to be used by Cook Children’s Medical Center and Parker County Center of Hope Camp Hope locations. The creative curriculum included games to teach children about good nutrition. Through the project, Kristen discovered she was good at writing curriculum. “Most importantly,” she said, “I gained experience connecting with kids and making conversations that lead to relationships.” 6

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains gives girls a wide range of experiences to define leadership their way—like a Girl Scout. GO-GETTER Determined to succeed. Bold. Honest. Goal-oriented. Can-do mentality. Ambitious. Lifelong learner.
INNOVATOR Creative. Thinks outside the box. Always looking for a new approach. Visionary. Uses resources wisely. Original. Do-it-yourselfer. Experimenter.
RISK-TAKER Not afraid to try new things. Courageous. Strong. Breaks the mold. Steps up. Discoverer. Pioneer. Embraces the unfamiliar.
LEADER Confident. Knows how to get the job done. Responsible. Committed to making the world a better place. Empathetic. Advocate. Empowers others.
G.I.R.L. is all about how Girl Scouts prepares girls for their everyday lives and the real world, not just what they’re doing in Girl Scouts. If we want more leaders, we need more Girl Scouts!
