The Girl Scout
Experience A girl leads her own path at Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains. Girl Scouts offers the best leadership development experience for girls in the world, connecting girls with caring adult mentors and strong female role models. In an all-girl environment, Girl Scouts choose the activities that interest them most. The idea is to learn by doing, and at Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains, she does lots of it.

“Girl Scouts help empower each other. The girls in our troop are ‘sisters.’ They support each other and raise each other up.” ~ Girl Scout Parent “It helps you prove what a girl can do—helps you stop stereotyping. Shows you can do anything!” ~ Girl Scout Cadette
“It’s great to help the girls discover who they are, not who their family expects them to be. Their journey is awesome.” ~ Girl Scout Volunteer “I have experienced a wonderful relationship with girls my age and been allowed many amazing opportunities. Each year through Girl Scouts, girls gain knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes that prepare them to succeed as leaders. We survey our troops annually, and one way we measure success is the percentage of girls who report experiencing the three keys of the Girl Scout experience—a girl-led, collaborative, and hands-on environment.

Girl Members Impact of
Girl Scouts at School • Girls have confidence in themselves and their abilities and form positive identities. • Girls act ethically, honestly, and responsibly and show concern for others. • Girls take safe risks, try things even if they might not succeed, and learn from mistakes. • Girls develop and maintain healthy relationships by voicing their feelings directly and resolving conflicts constructively. • Girls learn they are capable and confident enough to improve their community right now.
“The girls who participated in the program have a higher self-esteem. The girls were also excited they had an activity to do after school that was about them and for them.” ~ Elementary School Principal “My favorite thing about Girl Scouts is having talks about our community and how we could make it better. Doing projects together. Having more closer friends.” ~ 12-Year-Old Girl Scout “I like it when we’re learning new things about ourselves and helping people.” ~ 9-Year-Old Girl Scout

“I saw positive benefits in my girls. They took a role to problem-solve when they saw a need in a conflict. They also saw themselves as leaders and started to take a leading role when before they were more passive.” ~ Elementary School Teacher
