GSTOP Diversity Statement Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains and our Girl Scouts of hte USA sisterhood stand for all to ensure inclusion, diveristy, equity, and access as we equip girls with courage, confidence, and character. We believe racism and hate have no place here, as Girl Scouts is a place for all girls to belong. We can acknowledge that we don’t always have the answers, but as Girl Scouts, we must ensure that we are present for all our girls and volunteers. We must ensure that we continue to build women leaders who are prepared to lead their communities, especially in times of crisis. Let our actions speak louder than words. A pivotal part of Girl Scouting is teaching and helping girls, as well as volunteers, to Take Action to make the world a better place. Approved 12/08/2021 by the GSTOP Board of Directors. 3

Bronze Award Girl Scouts

Silver Award Girl Scouts

When Girl Scout Juniors team up to make a difference in their community, they learn important leadership skills, discover new passions, and watch how seemingly small actions make a big difference. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Bronze Award—the highest honor a Junior can achieve.

When Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.

Bronze Awards earned through March 2023.

*Remembering Cloie Rodgers 2011-2022 Bronze Award Girl Scout Troop 5600 Cloie loved her family, singing, basketball, soccer, the outdoors, and her Girl Scout sisters. In March 2022, Cloie completed her Bronze Award. She and her team repainted and decorated the children’s classrooms at Bolton Street Baptist Church, where her troop regularly met. They determined each room should have its own look - learning that repainting multiple rooms requires a lot of paint and precision. Cloie undoubtedly inspired her troop sisters to work towards their Highest Awards, as well.

Gold Award Girl Scout Spotlight: Georgia McQuade, Take a Pic, Save a Pet

Girl Scout Gold Award The mark of the truly remarkable. Gold Award Girl Scouts are the dreamers and the doers who take “make the world a better place” to the next level. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable—proof that not only can she make a difference, but that she already has.

GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship Recipient 2023: Kamille See Kamille’s project addressed the lack of diversity in theater and musical productions, as well as the lack of education in many children’s theater programs. Though her project, she was able to introduce students to black theater playwrights and allow them to experience the joy and magic that comes from the theater. Kamille is now a freshman at Spellman University in Atlanta.

7

Georgia’s project addressed the overflow of the Weatherford Animal Shelter where animals have been overproduced or dumped from irresponsible pet owners. Many of these animals are not adopted in a timely manner. Through her project, she created a warm and welcoming environment to those looking to adopt, as well as providing an updated place to photograph adoptable pets for digital promotion.

Gold Award Girl Scout Spotlight: Colleen Gladbach, Pics for Grads Colleen’s project addressed the issue of kids in poverty having low self-esteem and lacking the feeling of inclusion. Working with students in her school’s Families in Transition program, she created a way for each of the seniors to receive professional senior photographs, allowing them to show their individual styles as well as receive a photo in cap and gown.

Volunteer Spotlight: Billy Roessler

Adult Recognitions Volunteer Spotlight: Arely “Bella” Cruz Volunteer Bella Cruz believes her role as a troop leader is to create opportunities for girls to learn and practice awesome, fun, surreptitiously useful new skills. She began volunteering with Girl Scouts because she wanted to spend time with her own child. She quickly learned it is hard not to fall in love with the Girl Scout way, which challenges you to find tangible ways to put into practice the values believed in Girl Scouting. A grandparent once told Bella their child had “bloomed” because of Girl Scouts. The girl started talking more, expressing herself more, and had prepared and made a presentation all on her own. This is a reminder to her that a little timely watering and a little careful fertilizing can go a long way.

As a Girl Scout dad, Billy Roessler began volunteering as a parent active in his daughter’s life. Cookie season required both he and his wife (the cookie chair) to chip in, and it turned out to be their favorite time of year. The connections they made with the girls and their families are priceless. Every year, the troop goes on a “cookie trip” where the Girl Scouts and families are invited. In 2018, the troop families spent two-weeks driving to Yellowstone National Park and back. If it weren’t for his family’s involvement with Girl Scouts, Billy is unsure if his family would have ever had such an experience. Every person is an individual and brings some unique aspect to the troop. There are so many needs in every troop, so raise your hand and get involved.

“Seeing these women

find their path and grow up is fulfilling.”

“You can be you and be perfect for Girl Scouts. In fact,

Girl Scouts needs you

precisely because they probably do not have someone like you.”
