Our Mission

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

The Girl Scout Promise

On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Por mi honor, yo trataré: De sevir a Dios, y a mi patria, Ayudar a las personas en todo Momento, y vivir conforme a la Ley de las Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout Law

I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

Highest Awards

Every Girl Scout goes above and beyond to make a difference in her community and the greater world. The skills and experiences she gains along the way set her up for special recognition through the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards.

All three awards give girls the chance to do big things while supporting issues they care about.

4

Bronze Award Girl Scouts

When Girl Scout Juniors team up to make a difference in their community, they learn important leadership skills, discover new passions, and watch how seemingly small actions make a big difference. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Bronze Award—the highest honor a Junior can achieve.

Girl Scout Gold Award

The mark of the truly remarkable.

Gold Award Girl Scouts are the dreamers and the doers who take “make the world a better place” to the next level. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the mark of the truly remarkable—proof that not only can she make a difference, but that she already has.

GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship Recipient 2022: Lynda Clayton, Not One More: A Mission to Eliminate Youth Suicide

Lynda’s project aims to address and positively impact mental health amongst its participants through teaching fundamental skills via different activities. Not One More understands that mental health must be reinforced year-round in order to truly break the stigma surrounding the topic. Lynda has been passionate about bringing a different type of mental health program to her area for years, and she was finally able to make that dream a reality with the completion of her Gold Award project.

“The Gold
is not easy to earn but it is incredibly rewarding to earn.”

Courtney’s Gold Award project collected 1,000 books for Wood Elementary’s new book vending machine to help increase a love for literacy and show kids that reading can be fun. She also devised a plan to organize the books and keep the project going for years to come.

Through Mattie’s project she renovated classrooms within a child development center that provides day care and education to underprivileged students. Within the center, she painted rooms and created murals with hopes to provide a clean and less-distracting environment for the students.

“The most successful part of this project for me was discovering a potential career, which is something that I’ve long struggled to figure out.”

Troop Leader Diania Sporisky is currently in her 9th year of leading her Clyde, Texas-based troop. She tells anyone who is thinking about volunteering with Girl Scouts but might be hesitant to try: “Put preconceived ideas of what a Girl Scout volunteer is out of your head. A volunteer is anyone who has the heart to help the girls achieve their goals! I’m a deaf woman who has no daughter of her own and I can do this! Anyone can! As long as you remain focused on the girls and what’s best for them then that’s what’s important!”

Diania’s favorite part about being a Girl Scout volunteer is being able to watch the girls grow and become who they are. Her original group of girls is in high school now. Seeing who they have developed into and knowing that she got to help with that it is an honor.

“A volunteer is anyone who has the heart to help the girls achieve their goals!”

Vanessa Martin joined Girl Scouts when her daughters joined, in the 2nd grade and Kindergarten. She was never a Troop Leader but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been a busy volunteer. Vanessa helped out her daughters’ troop where she could – transporting the girls, helping out during meetings, providing a snack, etc.

Due to some extenuating circumstances within the troop leadership, Vanessa was asked to be the Troop Cookie Chair in November of that year, which means that she missed several trainings at that point. This did not deter her. Vanessa reached out to Service Unit Cookie Chairs and other Troop Cookie Chairs for support. When her Service Unit’s Cookie Chair was about to “retire”, she tried to recruit Vanessa for the position. Today, with the help of two other volunteers, she is the Cookie Chair for two Service Units.
