Highest Awards Every Girl Scout goes above and beyond to make a difference in her community and the greater world. The skills and experiences she gains along the way set her up for special recognition through the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. All three awards give girls the chance to do big things while supporting issues they care about.
2
Girl Scout Bronze Award When Girl Scout Juniors team up to make a difference in their community, they learn important leadership skills, discover new passions, and watch how seemingly small actions make a big difference. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Bronze Award—the highest honor a Junior can achieve.
Bronze Award Spotlight: Troop 5004 The girls in Troop 5004 knew that their school counselor distributes bags of nutritious foods to kids who need it - students who might not otherwise have much to eat over the weekend while school is out. Both this and the hardships brought on by the pandemic inspired the girls to create “Birthday in a Bag” packages - to help kids have a great birthday and take the pressure off parents with a limited income. Troop 5004 purchased all of the birthday essentials: cake mix, icing, candles, birthday plates, napkins, banners, balloons and glow sticks. The girls worked great together with a sense of accomplishment that they were helping other kids.

Girl Scout Silver Award When Girl Scout Cadettes focus on an issue they care about, learn the facts, and take action to make a difference, they gain the confidence and skills that will catapult them to lifelong success. It all adds up to the Girl Scout Silver Award—the highest honor a Cadette can achieve.
Silver Award Spotlight: Troop 8240 Abigail and Cheran of Troop 8240 saw a need at Sheppard Elementary School, a military school where students are constantly facing changes in their every time their family moves. This means that academic gaps occur, and it is noticeable in reading. The school librarian, Ms. Sherron Williamson, helped students learn to love reading. Abigail and Cheran wanted a safe place where reading could take place and students would feel comfortable. The Dedicated Book Box and Memorial Bench was the perfect solution. The Dedicated Book Box will continually provide books for military families. The bench has been dedicated in memory of Ms. Williamson, who passed away due to COVID-19. The bench allows her memory and love of reading to be passed on by providing joy and a safe reading space for students.

Gold Award Girl Scout Spotlight: Olivia Sganga Providing Essentials to Women Veterans in Domicilaries Olivia addressed women’s veterans that live in domiciliaries around her area through her project. By helping women’s veterans in her community through the VA, she was able to create and deliver essential item baskets for new women entering the domicilary. These baskets allow the women to worry less about essentials and more about what their next steps are toward getting out of the domicilary. Olivia also hopes to spread awareness for women veterans through social media seeing as though they might not get as much recognition as the men do.
I’ve learned that
I was born to lead others, to do good and spread awareness for the good of others.

Gold Award Girl Scout Spotlight: Truth Hippman, Caring with Crazy Socks Caring with Crazy Socks is meant to bring joy to people. Truth’s main target audience is anyone who looks like they need some happiness, such as homeless people, tornado/hurricane victims, and people in the hospital. She showed them that someone is thinking about them and wants them to be happy and comfortable. In her ideal world, there is not so much hate and violence, it is a world where people care about one another no matter where they are in their life.
“Through this process, I have learned that small
ideas can have a big impact.”
Gold Award Girl Scout Spotlight: Olivia Hessock, The Tie That Binds Children in protective services often have been mistreated, neglected, or traumatized. They have been removed from their home and placed in foster care. Soft fleece blankets are a source of comfort for the child who has just been taken from a home that belongs to them. They leave the homes with nothing, so they bond to the blanket. Olivia’s project taught kids at her church how to make fleece blankets. Children helping other children was part of her goal. The handmade blankets will be given to Child Protective Services in Abilene.
I learned that the experiences I have had in Girl Scouts over the past 12+ years have built my
confidence, courage and ability to complete my Gold Award.

Adult Recognitions Volunteer Spotlight: LaChandra Hooper LaChandra Hooper is a troop leader for Troop 8240, a group of Daisies to Ambassadors at Shepherds Air Force Base. She’s been involved with Girl Scouts since her youngest daughter, now a Cadette, joined as a Daisy. Being a troop on base, the leaders often move, leaving the troop with a new leader. LaChandra and her daughter have remained, and she took on larger roles becoming more hands on with the troop over the years. Girl Scouts is a family affair for the Hooper family. Dad is a proud Girl Scout dad. The Daisy’s two older sisters began by helping their little sister and joined themselves. Today, those two older sisters are both Ambassadors with their sights set on earning the Gold Award. The brother of the family, he’s a brother to the Girl Scouts, helping when needed and supporting his sisters through their Girl Scout adventures. Whether camping, roller skating, bowling, or doing community service, the entire family has come to love the Girl Scouts experience. She loves watching the expressions on the girls faces when they experience something for the first time. The excitement she sees in them rolls over to her excitement for being a part of their Girl Scout story. LaChandra’s advice to new volunteers is simple: “Have fun.”
When you go in as a volunteer, go to help the troop with whatever is needed,
you end up making friends, too.

Volunteer Spotlight: Amy Bell Amy Bell was a Girl Scout growing up and got to do some awesome things. She wanted her daughter Madeleine to have those same opportunities and more. Amy knew the only way she would be able to participate in Girl Scouts was if she became the leader. The rest is history. Girl Scouts means several things to her: fun, making new friends and helping others. Stepping out of your comfort zone and and learning new things. She continues to volunteer to help both adults and girls to make new friends, think outside the box and engage in the community and the world. She appreciates that Girl Scouts is for girls and aims to help them reach their highest potential.
I love how the girls have challenged me to do things outside of my comfort zone. I love inspiring girls to
do their best.

Our Mission Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
The Girl Scout Promise On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
