Join us to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks at Roaring River State Park. A Park Naturalist will lead girls on a hatchery tour and a short nature hike! All participants will meet at the hatchery office. Make it a camping trip by staying overnight! The special use area of Roaring River is reserved on Saturday, September 10 for Girl Scouts to camp for just $2 per person per night. Attendees must bring their own camping gear and food. Get up and grow with us at Prairie State Park to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks! Girls will learn from Park Naturalists and explore the different types of seeds present in prairies, and even collect seeds to help grow future prairies. Please note—this is not a drop off event.

2. Host a Family Fall Product Training—this can be before, after, or in place of a regular troop meeting. This helps to get everyone on the same page to support girls as they set and reach their goals.
Held every October through November, the Girl Scout Fall Product Program is, literally, a short and sweet program designed to help troops grow their troops funds for all the amazing adventures in the year ahead. With just a one month commitment for troops, there are only 6 steps to participate—with a volunteer support specialist coaching you along the way!
1. Attend a Fall Product Training hosted by your service unit.
6. Be available to receive product and girl recognitions from service unit delivery site and distribute for girl-delivery customer orders when they arrive in December.

3. Set up your Fall Product Account in the M2 software. It’s very user friendly, but we do have all the tutorials and resources to help you navigate it and succeed.
4. During the program, while the girls are out reaching their goals, Troop Nut & Candy Chairs will need to be available to collect, receipt, and deposit funds received by your troop during the sale.
5. At the end of the program, all you have to do is enter the girl orders in M2 and verify the fun and valuable rewards the girls have earned! These rewards auto-populate as girls reach different goals—verification is only needed for some levels, for example, those that ask for t-shirt sizes.

volunteer 411 9 The Fall Product Program provides instant funds for your new troop and for the new Girl Scout year! As sweets and treats are sold, funds are deposited into the troop account. GSMH proceeds are taken out around the first of December and what is left in the troop account is yours to keep! Therefore, by the first part of December, your troop has funds in their account to use to fulfill their Girl Scout adventures for the year! Did we mention, the troop keeps 20% profit of each item sold? • Mid-September—Service Unit Nut & Candy Chair Training • October 13—Program Begins • November 13—Program Ends • Early December—Nuts and Candies Delivered to Service Units But really, why participate? Important 2022 Dates New this Year! M2 Online Every girl who participates will earn the exclusive 2022 Go Bright Ahead patch—girls only need to sell 1 item: magazine, nuts, or chocolate—any item counts! M2, our Fall Product Program management site is a fun and easy site! Interactive and fun for girls, they can track their recognitions in real time, share videos and pictures to their parents’ social media accounts site directly from the product site, and create a custom avatar of themselves.

We want everyone to know about the exciting things that Girl Scouts are doing! If your troop, or a Girl Scout in your area, has been featured in the external media or would like the chance to be on TV, radio, or even featured in a local newspaper, let us know! The more stories you share gets you closer and closer to superstardom! This is a great way to encourage Girl Scouts and their troops to show the community all the things they’re doing to make the world a better place.

Our first priority is always the safety of our Girl Scouts, volunteers, and their families. When planning troop trips and activities, make sure to use the following resources: • Safety Activity Checkpoints. These make sure you know the requirements that keep your Girl Scouts safe. • Troop Activity Application. Fill one of these out for any activity your troop wants to do outside of the general meeting. • Troop Travel Application. If you are traveling more than 50 miles or spending the night, you are required to fill out this form first so we make sure your troop can have a fun, safe trip. What Should Your New Troop Be Doing? volunteer 411 13 Plan a Troop Meeting The Volunteer Toolkit provides an editable year plan to customize your year and the activites for each troop meeting. Some leaders will solely use the VTK for their planning needs, while others prefer printed resources. Many Troop Leaders use the basic structure outlined below. This model is meant to create a natural flow for your meetings. With the right balance of fun and learning—a simple Girl Scout troop meeting can go a long way. We schedule a variety of training dates and locations, but we know that volunteers may need additional options! We offer the following trainings upon request: New Leader Orientation, Grade Level Training, CPR/First Aid, and Outdoor Level 2 and 3. If you are interested in scheduling an onrequest training near you, please complete the Volunteer Training and Support Request located on the Volunteer Training page on our website.
Whether you are a new leader or a seasoned pro, the New Leader Orientation is a great opportunity to either get a refresher or a great start to your Girl Scout volunteer experience. Required for Troop Leaders and Assistant Leaders, New Leader Orientation Training is a virtual session that prepares leaders for the basics of starting, and running, a troop. You will learn how to register girls and adults, set up a bank account, handle emergencies, use Safety Activity Checkpoints, develop family support, conduct your first meeting, and much more! This training is required before your first troop meeting, but can be taken at any time afterwards as a refresher!

Do you have a special skill that you think would help other volunteers with managing their troops? Do you have a passion for the outdoors or safety training? We are looking for volunteer trainers across the Missouri Heartland.

Showing appreciation for our volunteers is a long-standing Girl Scout tradition. After all, our volunteers are amazing! Our volunteers are all about the girls. We love them for it and Girl Scouting wouldn’t be the same without them! Some volunteers go above and beyond all expectations and have a definite impact on not only their troop, but their service unit and sometimes even the whole council. Celebrating Our Girls Every Girl Scout goes above and beyond to make a difference in her community and the greater world. The skills and experiences she gains along the way set her up for special recognition through the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. We had many girls take these experiences to heart and share with their communities! We’d like to show off our Highest Award earning Girl Scouts for the 2021–2022 Girl Scout membership year!
Gold Award Girl Scouts
For my Gold Award project, I addressed the mental and emotional well-being of students in middle school. I chose this because I believe that the pressure of being on social media and in school can be very overbearing. I have had some personal experience with this. Students/kids of that age always have constant access to each other and are able see what others are doing. This can cause many issues. Everyone can always use help and friends. I learned that I love to help people learn how to be self-sustaining, and that I love teaching people things and having a powerful voice.
My Gold Award project addressed an old run-down bridge in my local community. With the help of my team, I fixed the bridge so that it could be used. There are many things I have learned about myself throughout the duration of this project one being able to put my plan from paper to reality and make it exceptional and or functional for the community around me. I believe the most successful part of my project was the before compared to the after pictures and whole look of the place after it was completed.

For my Gold Award project, I wanted to help people understand just how dangerous the sun can be. People don't always know all the things that could happen to their body by not properly protecting themselves from the sun. Some people think that it is cool to have a tan and that is causes no harm. A lot of these misconceptions come from not being educated at a young age about the dangers of sun exposure. As kids they may have not been told the proper ways to apply sunscreen, or they may not have been told why it is so important to use sunscreen.

For my Gold Award project I wanted to help individuals to know the differences between the different types of wood for building, woodworking projects, and burning wood for fires. From simple projects to choosing the correct type of wood in home construction. Today everyone wants homemade, handmade, and natural. Everyone needs the experience of touching, lifting to be able to feel the differences in weights and density, and seeing ring formations to understand how long it actually takes for trees to grow.
For my Gold Award project, I wanted to help the local Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts have a nice place to hold their bridging ceremonies. By enhancing this bridge and possibly the entire park, that will allow both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of all ages both boys and girls a nice, safe place to hold their bridging ceremonies. I've already heard younger troops are planning on using it this spring not only for bridging but for a field day with lots of outdoor activities. I can't wait to visit and see it being used. With the city of Benton sustaining it from now on, I know it will be greatly taken care of.

Lydia Hodgkiss| Sikeston, MO • Sports for You My Gold Award project addressed physical health through exercise, mental health by reducing stress, building friendships, developing leadership skills, raising community awareness, and learning to be supportive of each other. Many children are unable to participate in a team sport because of lack of equipment. Kids see other kids playing a sport and they want to give it a try, but because of the expense of registration fees and the equipment needed, they are not able to participate. This project provides gently used sports equipment to children in need.

Shyrock Farms—Callaway County. The Shryock family has been farming in Callaway county since 1889 and has been inviting people from all of the state to enjoy mazes, hayrides, pumpkin picking since 2002. We are elated to be joining them for a Girl Scout Day this fall.
Springfield Cardinals. A long-time partner with Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland and we are continuing the tradition with a Girl Scout Day at the park on September 2!

Share the love for the great outdoors, wildlife and conservation through education programs designed with Girl Scouts in mind. Explore the world of robotics using the Lego Mindstorms Robots! Each student will have their own robot and computer to use during class. We’ll start from the beginning and learn to program motors and sensors to complete fun challenges! This is an 8-week workshop. Our final challenge, a Robot Parade, will be on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00. You’ll build and program a robot that can follow a line and not bump into the robot in front of it, then let your imagination run wild and create a cool float for your robot to pull! Will it celebrate Pokémon? Music? Airplanes? We can’t wait to see! Robot Parade is always a fun event that you can invite friends and family to! Our friends at the Capital Mall invite you to experience the mall like never before! On this epic mall adventure, girls will explore STEM and Robotics, try their hand at martial arts, and step into the theater spotlight! Workshops will be offered by LabSpace Robotics, Family Force, and Itsty Bitsy Broadway. These workshops are for Girl Scouts only, but Girl Scout families are free to bring the whole family for a day full of shopping and fun at the mall! Lunch will be available for purchase at the food court or families can leave for lunch. Daisies and Brownies will earn their Robotics 1 badge. Registration includes entry to all 3 workshops, a seat to watch an exclusive preview of the stage production “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and a fun patch.

The Gathering 2022: Girl Scouts Renaissance Festival! Get ready for a weekend of fun, discovery, and friendships at The Gathering: Girl Scouts Renaissance Festival! The Gathering is a time-honored getaway for teen Girl Scouts. It’s a chance for you to learn and try new things, meet new friends, kick back, relax, and have some fun with other Girl Scouts your age. With workshops such as archery, gardening, and scrapbooking—there’s something for everyone! Price includes lodging, meals, program supplies, snacks, workshop facilitators, event t-shirt, and event patch. Registration is not open to adults. GSMH staff will select a group of volunteers to attend as unit supervisors. Outdoor Training Are you ready to go on camping trips with your troop but don’t know how to start? Learn how! Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned camper, this is a great way to involve your troop or just come on your own. For older girls and adults, this overnight will allow you to complete your Outdoor Level 2 and 3 training. Topics include tent use and care, campsite selection, outdoor cooking with a skillet and fuel stove, knot-tying, and the Leave No Trace principles. Participants will be sleeping in tents. volunteer 411 31 Jurassic Girl Scouts Discover long lost worlds and forgotten treasures. Explore early civilizations learning about ancient traditions and viewing historical artifacts. The Hall of Giants will have girls face-to-face with dinosaurs that ruled the earth 65 million years ago. Then, study the “Missouri Dinosaur”—discovered just 30 minutes from this museum! In the Focus Gallery, view fertilized dinosaur eggs in an incubator and study remains of underwater Jurassic giants. Girls can continue the fun at home by receiving instructions to make their own dinosaur bones. Girl registration cost includes entrance to the museum, a fossil dig, geode break, and a Jr. Paleontology activity book. Adult registration cost covers entrance into the museum. Managing your troop finances can seem daunting at times, but we are here to encourage you to start the year off fresh and build new, helpful habits.

• Make sure you have completed a Troop Finance Report for Membership Year 2022. This is done under the Finances tab in the Volunteer Toolkit.
• Look at your troop bank account information. Do you have two, unrelated, registered, and background checked members listed as signers? If not, you will need to get this done first.
1. Create a Troop Treasurer role within your troop and work with them to manage finances. Ask a parent who is organized, flu ent in Excel, or works in the finance field to volunteer for the position. Delegating these tasks will help engage families and add volunteers to your troop.
• Double check that the address listed on your Troop Bank Account belongs to one of your signers and is not Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland Service Center.
• Update your Troop Bank Account and ACH Form and submit it to GSMH. You can find a blank version of this form in the Volunteer Toolkit under the Resources tab.

2. Discuss troop funds monthly with the girls. Look at your current balance and any purchases or deposits for the month. What have you spent money on? What upcoming activities are you hoping to do? Will you have enough money to cover the costs? Are there any essential items that need to be purchased before you start spending money on fun things? Keeping these discussions girl-led will build financial literacy and teach your girls the importance of budgeting and responsible spending habits.

Renewing and Growing Your Troop Is your troop renewed and ready to go for Membership Year 2023? If you didn’t participate in Spring Renewal, you still have time to renew your troop during on-time renewal to keep the fun going now and for the coming year! Doublechecking that all currently registered adults renew is just as important to ensure proper volunteer-to-girl ratios.

Checking your roster to see who is coming back for another awesome year of Girl Scouts is easy! Log in to your MyGS account and find the “My Troop(s)” tab. From the drop down menu, click on your troop to see a list of members and their membership status. All members who have renewed will show “Active,” and those who have not who will show “Time To Renew.” You can also ask your friendly Volunteer Support Specialist for a copy of your troop roster!
Don’t be afraid to ask. If you’re looking for volunteers for your troop, ask parents to join as well! Having registered, background checked parents means you have helpers ready to assist with activities at and outside of troop meetings, transporting girls, and facilitating during product program seasons! All you have to do is ask!
There is no better time to grow your troop than now! Adding girls and volunteers to your troop is a great way for girls to make new friends, get excited about the upcoming product program, and build more girls of courage, confidence, and character! You may be wondering: how do I grow my troop? Here are a few different ways to grow your troop. Get the word out. Work with GSMH to create flyers to hand out to your school, your work, and community centers. Give the girls flyers and goodies to pass out to their friends, too! Host a registration night. Gather your troop and set up a table at your school, a local park, or a recreational facility. Bring an activity for your troop and interested girls to work on together— give them a sneak peek at all the fun they could have if they join your troop! Work with our Recruitment team. You can find our handy Recruitment Request form on the Forms page of our website. You’ll fill out a few questions and submit a form, and one of our friendly Recruitment Specialists will connect with you to help set up or host a sign-up night in your area!

You can use Cookie Program Credits on any purchase, whether you are at a Pop Up Shop or home watching a Facebook Live. Cookie Program Credits can also be applied towards programs. But why?
