CorporateConnection Fall 2011 | gscnc.org Girl Scouts Rocked Union Station to Announce Rock the Mall On June 17, 2011, 45 Girl Scouts from the Greater Washington Region performed a flash mob dance at Union Station to announce the official date for Girl Scouts Rock the Mall: 100th Anniversary SingAlong on the National Mall - June 9, 2012! Representatives from K12, Booz Allen Hamilton, GEICO and CareFirst, four of the lead sponsors for the Sing-Along presented sponsorship checks to the Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital. Over 200,000 Girl Scouts, friends, family and alumnae are expected to attend the anniversary event in June. It was an exciting kick-off to what promises to be an incredible Girl Scout year filled with much song and celebration.
CareFirst Gift Expands Capital One Funds Financial Healthy Living Programming Literacy for Local Girls During Girl Scouts’ 100th Year CareFirst recently awarded the Girl Scout Council a generous $175,000 grant to expand the Grow Strong Program and bring healthy living activities to 6,000 girls during the 2011-2012 program year — Girl Scouts’ 100th year! We are deeply grateful to CareFirst for their steadfast support for the health and well being of local Girl Scouts.

Anna Maria Chavez Named Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of the USA Anna Maria Chávez was named CEO of the Girl Scouts of the USA. She will officially assume her new role at the Girl Scouts National Council Session/52nd Convention in November. Chavez is the 19th chief executive of Girl Scouts, and will lead the movement during an exciting time,
the 100th anniversary celebration, designed to honor our legacy and create urgency around girls’ issues. She will replace Kathy Cloninger, who is retiring after leading the organization for eight years. Chávez grew up in a MexicanAmerican family in the small town of Eloy, Arizona. She holds a law degree from the University of Arizona College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in American history from Yale University. She was the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of
Southwest Texas and prior to this, the deputy chief of staff to then Gov. Janet Napolitano. Chavez was also the chief of staff to the deputy administrator at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) in Washington, DC. Her husband Robert is a financial industry executive and they have a son, Michael.
