At Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines, we believe that every girl should be provided with the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. That every girl should be given the tools to discover new passions, chase her dreams, and become her best self. That every girl should have the chance to realize her potential and conquer the unimaginable in a safe and supportive environment. Powered by Girl Scouts, we are making it possible for every Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader (G.I.R.L.) to achieve all of this, one program event or badge at a time. When a G.I.R.L. embarks on her journey with Girl Scouts, she gets to lead her own adventure in an all-girl environment and to choose the exciting, hands-on activities that interest her most. Does she have a knack for problem-solving and creating cool inventions in STEM? We have a badge for her to put her ideas into action! Does she love to get outside and explore the world around her while developing survival and orienteering skills? We have an event for her to grow with her fellow nature enthusiasts. Girl Scouts prepares girls of all ages, interests, and abilities for a lifetime of success through unique, life-changing programs and experiences because we believe that every girl should be given the tools and resources they need to become the G.I.R.L.s of today and tomorrow. At Girl Scouts, “Can I?” quickly turns into “I will!” as girls transform their ideas into action, turn their questions into adventure, and grow their confidence through practice. Powered by Girl Scouts and delivering on our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, we are changing the world, one G.I.R.L. at a time. With programming centered around STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), the outdoors, entrepreneurship, and life skills, we provide girls with hands-on activities designed to inspire and empower them throughout their Girl Scout journey. Opening Date: Indicates the date when registration opens for the activity. Online activity registration opens at 10:00 a.m. EST. Closing Date: Indicates the last day to register for an activity if space is available. Please note that some activities fill prior to the closing date. Individual Registration: Indicates that this activity can be attended by girls not in a troop or troops where only one or two girls would like to attend. Individually registered Girl Scout(s) must attend with a registered adult, except where otherwise noted. Troop Registration: Indicates that this activity can be attended by three or more girls from a troop with the appropriate number of adults according to the safety ratios. Prior approval is required to register additional adults beyond the safety ratio.

My GS Welcome to the online Girl Scout member community! MyGS is your digital one stop shop for all things related to your Girl Scout experience. There are two main sections of MyGS: Member Profile and Volunteer Toolkit. Member Profile is accessible to all current members and is where you can renew memberships, update contact information, and view members of your household. The Volunteer Toolkit is accessible for girls/guardians and troop leaders and is where the troop can plan their program year, track badges and accomplishments, and submit troop financial information. To log into MyGS, visit www.nccoastalpines.org and click MyGS in the main menu bar.
Register for Activities Online • Click Activities on the website homepage to view activities in a list or calendar format. Use the advanced search to filter for specific activities. You can also login to MyGS and register under the Activities tab. • Click the name of the activity (on the website or in MyGS) and select Register Now to begin the online registration process or Add to My Activities to select the activity and continue searching. • Follow the online prompts to pay and complete your registration.

Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines is proud to offer financial assistance to ensure every girl has the opportunity to unleash her inner G.I.R.L. To review the council’s full cancellation and refund policy and to learn more about and apply for financial assistance, including Troop Travel Assistance, visit www.nccoastalpines.org. The complete financial assistance policies can be found under the Activity main menu bar on the Financial Information and Policies webpage. Adult Supervision Requirements
Cancellation and Refund Policy Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines reserves the right to cancel an activity due to insufficient registration, acts of nature, or any other reason beyond its control. Council-sponsored activities are held rain or shine, unless inclement weather adversely affects the program. If an activity is canceled or rescheduled, registered participants will be notified and refunds processed accordingly. A significant amount of planning time and money are spent months prior to the opening of council-sponsored activities and trainings. Prompt cancellation notification allows time for girls who may be on the waiting list to attend the activity. Our refund policy requires notification to be provided by the customer to the council at least 15 days prior to an activity. Please review the complete policies on our website.
Financial Assistance Information and Policies Requests for financial assistance are confidential and based on personal information establishing the applicant’s need.
Activity Financial Assistance Financial assistance is available for registered Girl Scouts who would otherwise be unable to attend local council-sponsored activities. • Financial assistance is not available for events 0 which cost $10 or less. • To request financial assistance and reserve your 0 space, a deposit and financial assistance request 0 form must be completed for each event. Please 0 use form PG330 - Application for Individual 0 Financial Assistance and Registration for 0 Council-Sponsored Activities.
A minimum of two adults must accompany every troop to a program activity unless otherwise stated. Please consult the guidelines in Safety Activity Checkpoints or Volunteer Essentials for exact ratio information. Our primary goal is to provide quality programming for girls; space may not be available for additional adults above the stated ratio. Please note that if you exceed the number of adults required you may be asked to limit them based on space availability

Troop Travel Assistance Troop Travel is defined as an event, trip, or project that goes beyond the ordinary troop program and enhances the Girl Scout experience. Troop Travel programs are educational in nature and provide growth experiences for girls and persons involved. Only registered girl and adult members may apply for Troop Travel Assistance. Applications for Financial Assistance are due on the first of every month. It is recommended that troops and/or individuals submit their applications three to six months in advance of the trip date. Please review the full policy and find the Financial Assistance application on the council website (PG320 and PG310).

NEW PROGRAM RESOURCES FOR 2019-2020 Girl Scouts is always looking to provide girls with exciting new opportunities to learn about themselves and the world around them. New badges and Journeys will continue to rollout that allow Girl Scouts of all levels to explore different areas in STEM and the outdoors. Enhancing Girl Scouts’ proven girl-led programming, these new program resources will set girls up for a lifetime of leadership and success, and prepare them to take action to make the world a better place.
Cadette Cybersecurity Badge
STEM CYBERSECURITY BADGES Cybersecurity badges are now available for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Girls learn how computers and the internet work and apply the concepts of safety and protection to the technology they use every day. These badges are developed in partnership with the Cyber Innovation Center. CODING BADGES We are also introducing three Coding badges per grade level for all Girl Scouts. Girls find out how to create computer programs, games, and apps that solve problems and help others. These badges are developed in partnership with codeSpark and VidCode.
Senior Coding Badge
SPACE SCIENCE BADGES Cadettes and Seniors discover how light is used to make discoveries in space science and Ambassadors explore space science and opportunities with NASA now and in the future. JOURNEYS The Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey will allow Girl Scout Cadettes through Ambassadors to participate in interactive activities to learn how scientists solve problems with the scientific method. Girls practice observation, collect data, and complete a citizen science project.

Outdoor TRAIL ADVENTURE BADGES Each level is challenged to complete a hike for which they must prepare by choosing their adventure, planning, setting goals, and making it happen while learning about the great outdoors. SNOW OR CLIMBING ADVENTURE BADGES Girl Scout Daisies through Ambassadors are encouraged to plan an adventure that involves a snow or rock climbing activity.

OUTDOORS ENTREPRENEURSHIP Entrepreneurship Progression Progression allows girls to gain new skills, build their confidence, and develop Money Manager: Learn money basics. an entrepreneurial mindset over time. As they engage in the Girl Scout Cookie Decision Maker: Make plans for the coming Program and beyond, girls learn five valuable skills that will serve them Girl Scout year and set a budget. for the rest of their lives. The NEW Cookie Entrepreneur Family pin enables girls and their families to learn to think like entrepreneurs as they participate in the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Each Girl Scout grade level will have its own set of requirements to help families guide their Girl Scout as she runs her own cookie business year after year. Dollars & Sense: Financial Literacy During the 2019-2020 membership year, girls and troops will have the opportunity to participate in two councilsponsored, money-earning activities.
2019 Fall Product Program
MOTIVATION gets you going AND HABIT
The Fall Product Program gives girls and troops the opportunity to sell magazine subscriptions (new and renewals) and very popular nuts and candies to earn quick and easy startup money for their troop. This “friends & family sale� is conducted both face-to-face and via the internet through a secure program. As part of the Fall Product Program, girls develop e-commerce skills and leverage technology to help them learn and earn as they go. Girls can create their own Fall Product Program digital avatar and even earn a patch featuring the avatar they designed. Girl Scout Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Choose Your Adventure troops can choose the 10% proceeds plan with patches and Participating girls are also eligible to earn Superstar recognitions or opt to receive 15% in proceeds and patches, in Destinations. Girl Scouts Highest Awards Each year, the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards are presented to girls who have planned and executed far-reaching projects in response to pressing community needs. In the process, girls gain skills in leadership, project planning, time management, and budgeting, plus confidence to last a lifetime.
Girl Scout Bronze Award The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve. When you go for the Bronze Award, you represent what Girl Scouts can achieve in their communities. And, of course, you want to do that in a way that’s fun for you— and for everyone else involved, too! Earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award involves the time to complete a Journey, and then a suggested minimum of 20 hours building your team, exploring your community, choosing your project, planning it, putting your plan in motion, and spreading the word about your project.
Girl Scout Silver Award Going for the Girl Scout Silver Award gives a Girl Scout Cadette the chance to show that she is a leader who is organized, determined, and dedicated to improving her community. Earning the award puts girls among an exceptional group who have used their knowledge and leadership skills to make a difference in the world. The prerequisite to earning your Girl Scout Silver Award is to complete a Girl Scout Cadette Journey. Once you complete your Journey, the suggested minimum time for earning your Girl Scout Silver Award is 50 hours. You can start by planning the time in parts, then dividing it up by the steps.
Girl Scout Gold Award The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award that Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors can earn. The Girl Scout Gold Award follows the Standards of Excellence and challenges you to develop yourself as a leader, achieve the Girl Scout Leadership Outcomes, and make a mark on your community that creates a lasting impact on the lives of others. Fulfilling the requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award starts with the completion of two Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador Journeys or having earned the Silver Award and completing one Senior or Ambassador Journey. After you have fulfilled the Journey(s) requirement, 80 hours is the suggested minimum hours to complete the 7 steps to go Gold: identifying an issue, investigating it thoroughly, getting help and building a team, creating a plan, presenting your plan, gathering feedback, taking action, and educating and inspiring others. We’re committed to providing resources to help you achieve success. In fact, we’ve launched several new resources to support you along the way including our new online training module, hands-on Gold Award workshops, a Girl Scout Gold Award Girl Workbook, and virtual office hours - all to help prepare you to create sustainable change. 13

JANE S. BARRINGER AWARD Girl Scout Gold Award recipients are eligible to apply for the Jane S. Barringer Award. This is a cash award established to honor Mrs. Barringer, an outstanding teen advisor. The Misty Crabtree Eastham Scholarship was established to honor the memory of lifelong Girl Scout Misty Crabtree Eastham, and provides scholarships for Girl Scout Gold Award recipients to help offset college expenses. As a girl in foster care who earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, Misty felt that Girl Scouting had a tremendous impact on her life and provided opportunities that she may never have had a chance to pursue. This scholarship embodies Misty’s sense of selflessness, generosity, drive, and determination.

Governor’s Page Program Do you have an interest in government or current state issues? Do you want to learn more about our state’s capital city? If so, consider applying to serve as a Page in the Governor’s Office from March 2-6, 2020. You will join Girl Scouts from all over North Carolina to learn how our state government really works and to participate in the legislative process. Girls selected to work in the Governor’s Office have the opportunity to meet the Governor, and to tour the Governor’s Mansion as well as other local sights. Girls may stay with family or friends or even a host family selected by the Page Coordinator’s Office. Look for more information in Council News starting January 2020.
The Gladys Marion Scholarship was made possible by a lifetime member of Girl Scouts who gave of her time and shared her talents to support Girl Scouts as they developed their leadership skills and prepared to be the next generation of leaders. The scholarship, for high school seniors primarily residing in Brunswick, New Hanover, or Pender counties, supports Gold Award Girl Scouts or girls who have demonstrated significant leadership as members of Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines. Bring your family for a fun-filled day on the Battleship North Carolina. Activities will include vintage typewriters, Morse code, semaphore flags, V-mail, kingfisher simulator, and so much more. Girls may sign up to bring an American flag to be raised and flown on the Battleship. They will then receive a Flag Presentation Certificate with their name on it, authenticating the flag to have been flown on the forward mast of the USS North Carolina. An interactive one-day event sponsored and facilitated by the Eastern North Carolina Society of Women Engineers. Taking place on the NC State Campus, participants will start the day with an overview of what Engineers do. They will then split into teams to complete the following activities: design/test a robotic arm, design/test a prosthetic leg, and explore different brakes and how they impact material flow. The event will satisfy several requirements for the Think Like an Engineer Journey and those participating will get mentoring for the “Take Action” project, which they can complete independent of the event. This event was made possible by a Program Development Grant with the Society of Women Engineers through a generous donation from the ExxonMobil Foundation. MarineQuest In this interactive workshop, girls will become a field agent exploring the salt marshes, coastal forest, and intertidal rocky outcrops of coastal Wilmington. Girls will also engage in hands-on lab experiments at UNC Wilmington’s Center for Marine Science and learn about Leave No Trace principles through fun age-level activities, all while earning requirements for the new Eco Friend, Eco Camper, Trekker, and Eco Explorer badges. ROBOTICS BADGE KITS Are your Daisy or Brownie Girl Scouts excited about earning the Robotics badge? We’ve created Robotic Kits for both Girl Scout Daisies and Brownies to help them learn to program a robot to maneuver through several fun mazes. Both kits can be checked out from any of our Service Centers. Easy to follow, step by step instructions are included to help you guide the girls through the badge requirements. The Daisies will use the Code & Go Robot Mouse and Brownies will use Botley The Coding Robot. The fee to reserve a kit is $25. Cybersecurity Safeguards Using computers and going online is fun and exciting, but there are certain rules that help you keep safe. Start by creating an online identity and protecting it. Media Girlz Do you love the spotlight almost as much as you love Girl Scouts? Our Media Girlz team participates in various media opportunities, special events, and more! Girls learn about public speaking and practice business etiquette while sharing with their community how great it is to be a Girl Scout! We accept applications annually for the team at the end of each program year, so be on the lookout for more information.
VTK As a Girl Scout volunteer, there are a ton of great online resources right at your fingertips! One of our most powerful online tools is our Volunteer Toolkit (VTK)! This wonderful planning resource can be accessed by troop volunteers and parents and includes meeting and year plans (including activities, supply lists, and more), troop communication tools, and a parent-view to keep up with troop activities. Troop Co-Leaders can also submit their Annual Finance Report through the Volunteer Toolkit.
Gadget Girls Interested in learning about or working with robots? Join our Gadget Girls robotics team where girls work together to build, test, and program robots—then compete against other teams in North Carolina and beyond! The team meets in Cary weekly outside of build season and Monday through Friday during build season. Adult coaches and mentors guide the team through challenges as they identify underlying problems, use research to develop innovative solutions, and practice critical thinking and creativity.
