Dear Camp Families, Is your girl ready for another exciting year of outdoor adventures?! Summer starts here... at Girl Scout Camp! This summer, girls will get to explore their inner Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader (G.I.R.L.), which means they will practice leadership and experience success while trying new things, develop a range of new skills, and feel comfortable failing and trying again in a safe all-girl, girl-led environment. Your G.I.R.L. will develop grit and determination by diving into new adventures in the outdoors and demonstrate creative thinking by practicing environmental stewardship and using creative and artistic talents to explore nature. Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to discover anything is possible while enjoying all of the amazing amenities that our camps have to offer. Our three summer resident camps feature fun outdoor activities like swimming, watersports, archery, campfires, and so much more. Each camp also offers a variety of activities unique to that camp property such as climbing the Alpine Tower at Camp Mary Atkinson, sleeping among the trees in our Tree House unit at Camp Graham, and exploring the Pamlico River at Camp Hardee. No matter which session or camp your girl attends, she will have an awesome time exploring the great outdoors and building important life skills such as teamwork, independence, and leadership. Your girl will be guided by our encouraging staff to take the lead, explore her potential, and build her bravery. She’ll be lifted up, cheered on, and supported along the way by campers and staff from across North Carolina and the world. At Girl Scout summer camp, girls experience unique opportunities in a fun, safe, and healthy environment. We know that by sharing your camper with us, you are placing the utmost trust in our ability to take good care of her. That’s a responsibility we take seriously — and it’s why we remain dedicated to helping prepare girls (and families) for an unforgettable summer experience with Girl Scouts. One of the best ways to help prepare your girl for camp is to attend our free camp open house events this spring. Campers and their families are invited to tour the property, meet camp staff, and discover the adventures that await! Plus, it’s a great opportunity to see your girl get excited about camp and learn more about new skills, friendships, and memories she’ll bring home from Girl Scout camp this summer. Girl Scout camp is all about trying new things, meeting new friends, and having fun. Whether you’re interested in horses, archery, swimming, canoeing, hiking, adventure trips, or are looking to try all of the above, you can have a great summer at Girl Scout camp!

Camp Standards

Important dates

Camp Graham, Camp Hardee, and Camp Mary Atkinson are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA), a national organization that sets high standards for the health and safety of campers and staff, and the delivery of quality programs. In addition to meeting the established standards for health, safety, program, and personnel criteria set by federal, state, and local governments, our camps meet the standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA.

Girls dive into a whole new world of activities at Girl Scout camp — swimming freely in lakes, working together to steer a canoe, practicing the perfect shot in archery, exploring nature during an afternoon hike, learning to cook over a fire, and cheering on friends as they challenge themselves to try new things. Girls also strengthen their skills and grow their passion for environmental stewardship through our outdoor leadership programming. When a girl goes to camp… • She will grow in self-confidence and know that her voice counts; • She will support others and be supported; • She will increase her circle of friends, lead a group, follow others, compromise, and make decisions for herself; • She will create a community that values differences; • She will discover that anything is possible.

Every day at camp truly is a new adventure. No two days are ever the same. Each week, campers will experience a variety of activities while enjoying the weekly camp theme. While weekly themes are used to differentiate our sessions, all campers enjoy traditional camp activities each week like swimming, canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, and much more! Weekly themes influence decorations, music, skits, crafts, costumes, and all-camp activities.

Camp care packages and items will be available for pickup at camp registration. These items will be available for sale in the Girl Scout Trading Post shop during camp season. Reserve your kit now, as they’ll be available only while supplies last!

Get a sneak peek of what our three awesome camps are like by attending Camp Open House! Bring your family and a picnic lunch to see the cabins, special features, and more. Staff will be on hand to answer your questions and help you choose the session that is right for you. Camp Essentials Care Kit – $35 Your camper will receive camp essentials including a water bottle, headband, special postcard with stamp to send home, and a stuffed camp friend - all in a cool camp bag.

Camp T-Shirts – $13 Order your “Summer Starts Here!” T-Shirt now! T-Shirts and come in youth medium and large, and adult small through 4XL.

Camp Photos – $6 A photo of your camper with her unit is a fantastic way to bring home lasting memories of new friends and a great time at camp. Photos will be distributed on the last day of the session.

Trading Post Parents can also purchase council gift cards to be used at the camp’s Trading Post shop. Campers will use the funds during their camp week to do a little shopping at the Trading Post for camp themed items such as T-Shirts, fun patches, plush animals, flashlights, disposable cameras, and more. Cash is not allowed at any camp. All cards are kept in the Trading Post during the camp session and returned on the last day of camp if there is a balance remaining. Remaining balances will be kept on the Trading Post card. Trading Post cards can be used from year-to-year for Trading Post purchases as well as in all council shops, or they may be donated to the council at the end of camp. During each camp’s open house, the Trading Post will be open for shopping and a sneak preview of Camp 2019 merchandise! Please note: All camp extras must be paid for in full at the time of registration or purchased at camp check-in. T-Shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed if purchased at camp. All camp care packages and items are available only while supplies last.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: Who can attend Girl Scout camp? A: Camp is open to all girls ages 5-17. Some programs have entering grade requirements or prerequisites which must be met to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers. Q: My camper is not a member of Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines but would like to attend camp. Can she attend? Are there additional fees? A: Girl Scout camps are open to all girls. Girls who are not members of Girl Scouts or Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines will pay an additional $75 on their total camp bill per session. Q: Where will campers sleep? A: Girls are grouped in units. Depending on their camp and program choice, girls may sleep in cabins, tree houses, or platform tents depending on the camp. Each unit has trained counselors housed in separate quarters within the living unit, but close enough to supervise campers. In select sessions at each camp, counselors sleep in the same cabin as girls (see camp session descriptions for more details). Q: Can my camper attend camp with a buddy/friend? A: During registration, a buddy’s name can be listed. Buddies must be in the same age group and must register for the same session. We are not able to honor requests for more than one buddy. Q: Who are the camp staff? A: Camp staff is enthusiastic, talented, and caring. They are selected based on maturity, program experience, and genuine desire to work with girls. Counselors are 18+ years old with the exception of older Girl Scouts completing our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) programs. While most camp staff are from North Carolina, we work to recruit diverse staff from many different countries around the world. These staff members share their culture with the campers through camp activities. Q: What type of training do camp staff receive? A: Before camp begins, staff attend an intensive on-site training which includes activity programming, outdoor skills, songs, games, first aid and safety, emergency procedures, team building, program age level characteristics, working through homesickness, and more. Q: My child has special needs. Can she attend camp? A: Each year, many girls with special needs participate in our camp program. Girls must be able to function in a 6:1 girl-to-adult ratio. Special needs may include a range of physical, medical, developmental, dietary, behavioral, or communicative abilities. It is our hope to be able to serve all girls wishing to attend camp. Providing a safe and positive experience to all campers is of utmost importance to us. We reserve the right to make decisions of participation based on the extent of the girl’s needs and our ability to meet those needs in the camp setting, as well as other factors as deemed appropriate. We are concerned about the health and safety of all campers, and we want to ensure we have appropriate professional and medical services to meet needs. Please contact the camp director at 800-284-4475 to discuss the camp program and nature of your girl’s needs.

Q: My camper has special dietary needs or restrictions. How are menus managed at camp? A: Menus are planned with the general camp population and economy of associated costs in mind. We will make every attempt to provide for special dietary needs within the scope of our regular menus. Please contact the camp director at 800-284-4475 for more information. Q: Can my camper call home during the week? A: Campers are not permitted to make or receive phone calls. We encourage independence and self-reliance during camp. The camp director will contact parents if a camper has a medical problem, is excessively homesick, or has an emergency. Please let your child know before camp that she will not be able to call home and that you are comfortable with this. It is important not to send your child to camp with a cell phone. There is little coverage on our properties, and more importantly, it will send a conflicting message to other campers. We are partners with you in your child’s summer experience, and we hope that you will support us with this camp policy. Q: Can I visit my camper during a camp session? A: To help maintain program continuity and ensure the safety of campers, visitors are only allowed at camp during open house and arrival/departure hours. Q: What happens if my camper has a difficult time adjusting to camp? A: Camp staff will do everything possible to help girls adjust to camp life. However, resident camp staff reserves the right to send home any camper who consistently exhibits inappropriate behavior or endangers herself or others. A camper’s parent/guardian is responsible for picking her up and fees will not be refunded. Q: What measures are taken to ensure my child’s safety while at camp? A: We are dedicated to providing safe and secure camps. Each camp follows the guidelines set by the American Camp Association as well as those set by Girl Scouts of the USA through Safety Activity Checkpoints. Staff is housed in close proximity to camper cabins and tents, and buildings and grounds are checked nightly. All camp staff and adults spending the night at camp must successfully complete a criminal background check. Q: If our plans change, how do I cancel my child’s session? Can I get a refund? A: Please notify our customer care team as soon as possible if plans change and your camper can no longer attend camp. Once you register for a session, you have made a commitment to that session. Refunds are available under special circumstances minus the non-refundable deposit. Please see page 24 for our refund and cancellation policy. Q: When is the last day to register for camp? A: Camp registrations will close two weeks prior to the start of each session. Exceptions can be made if space is available. Please note: for Adventure Trip and some Specialty Session campers will also need to have had a physical completed by a physician within the past 12 months. Q: When can I expect to receive confirmation information about summer camp? A: Once you have completed your registration for camp, you can log back in your MYGS account and access the 2019 Summer Camp Confirmation on the My Activities page of your Member Profile. Confirmation packets will be emailed to all campers registered on May 1, 2019. 7

Camp

GRAHAM Camp Graham is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream come true! This Girl Scout property is situated on beautiful Kerr Lake with 155 acres of lake front, open areas, and woodlands. Girls will unleash their inner G.I.R.L. as they explore a wide range of camp activities including hiking, field and nature games, archery, swimming, sailing, and more. At camp, girls move through the daily schedule as a unit participating in activities with girls who are in the same cabins or tents. Morning sessions follow breakfast and activities are dependent on the camper’s age, but could include taking aim at the archery range, enjoying the waterfront with a swim or exploring our property by foot, canoe, or kayak. Lunch and rest time follows before girls are off on afternoon outdoor adventures and fun – including a camper favorite, tie-dying! Campers will spend the evenings enjoying all-camp activities and spend the night in platform tents, tree houses, or cabins, based on their session.

Come explore the magic of camp! You’ll spend the week making new friends, swimming and boating on Kerr Lake, making crafts, and playing in nature. At the end of the week, when you send your wishes to the water fairies, you know that you’ve made memories to last a lifetime. Counselors will sleep in the cabins with all Wonder campers.

You’re about to embark on a fun-filled camp adventure! Challenge yourself to try new things and explore nature during your week at Camp Graham. Canoe or kayak on Kerr Lake, explore the woods on a hike, create something wonderful in arts and crafts, set a new goal in archery there’s no limit to the things you can achieve.

Discover Entering Grades 4-5 $300 through 3/31. $325 starting 4/1. Get ready for a spectacular week! With opportunities to boat and swim in Kerr Lake, get crafty, and hike the trails, you’ll soon discover how much fun can be had at Camp Graham. Show off your tie-dye skills, make a s’more, and share a smile around the campfire.

Voyage Entering Grades 9-12 $300 through 3/31. $325 starting 4/1. There are so many fabulous activities to try at camp! You can try paddle boarding on the lake, taking an epic night hike through the woods, testing your aim at archery, or making the coolest tie-dye. Together, we’ll have a week unlike any other!

Do you love to create culinary masterpieces? Join us as we practice outdoor and indoor cooking, have team competitions with mystery ingredients, make dishes of your choice, and learn new cooking techniques and skills.

Horse Camp

Our summer horse program allows you to experience horses in a fun and safe environment. You will learn beginner horseback riding skills such as walking and controlling your mount, as well as basic care and grooming. Learn Western riding at Camp Graham by traveling each day to a local stable. Campers will be placed in groups based upon an assessment made by the director of the horse program. All campers are required to wear long pants and boots appropriate for riding. Helmets, saddles, and other riding gear is provided. When you are not at the stable, you will enjoy participating in other camp activities with your horse-loving pals!

Magical Memories Entering Grades 4-6 $435 through 3/31. $460 starting 4/1. Join us for this special 10-day session, Wednesday through Friday, where we will spend our time at camp cooking outdoors, going on a night adventure, making crafts, hanging out on the lake, exploring nature, and much more. Girls will get to choose a local offsite excursion to go on during their time at camp.

You Did What at Camp! Entering Grades 6-10 $600 through 3/31. $625 starting 4/1. During this exciting two-week camp session, girls will spend their time participating in both on-camp and off-camp adventures like seeing a drive-in movie, rock climbing, and planning their own day trip.

Babysitter’s Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR Entering Grades 6-10 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for infants and children, manage a babysitting business, as well as recognize and care for life-threatening respiratory and cardiac emergencies. In addition to receiving Babysitting certification, girls receive their Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification. 9

Calling all Pinterest and Do-It-Yourself (DIY) project lovers! Spend the week at camp trying your hand at a variety of DIY and arts and crafts projects while discovering all that Camp Graham has to offer on the shores and in the lake. Specific projects will be selected by campers during the session.

Entrepreneur Camp

In this session, you will use a camera to capture your own image and create your own idea of media. You will get to work with a professional photographer to learn how to take quality photos. When you’re not behind the lens, you will get to do the great things offered at camp, such as waterfront activities, archery, and more! Participants will need to supply their own digital camera.

Entering Grades 7-12 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1.

Wayfinders

Interested in learning how to start and run your own company? In just a week, campers will listen to each other’s ideas, form teams, be coached by educators and industry pros, design a product, create a prototype, and pitch the company idea in front of a panel of judges. Girls will also have the opportunity to experience all the fun of a traditional week at summer camp. Families will be invited to attend final presentations on the last day of camp, prior to check-out.

Badge Blitz Entering Grades Vary $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. It’s all about the badges! Come join us for a week filled with camp fun and badge activities. Girls will complete a variety of Outdoor and Legacy badges while enjoying watersports, arts & crafts and nature play.

Entering Grades 7-10 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. Learn to sail Sunfish with a certified instructor and build your confidence and ability to sail the boat well and safely. Once you learn the basics on Kerr Lake, you’ll depart for an overnight adventure on the coast to try your hands at sailing Flying Juniors. Prior sailing experience not required but is highly recommended. Participants must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

Camp to the Music Entering Grades 6-12 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1 Do you play an instrument? Interested in being part of a camp band for a week? Come jam out with new friends as you learn camp songs and explore camp. Participants will give a short performance during the closing ceremony.

Calling all fisherwomen! Come join us for a week of catch and release fishing on Kerr Lake. Campers will learn basic techniques as well as take a trip out on the lake to fish from a motor boat. When not casting your line, try your hand at some crafts, explore nature, and have fun in the lake.

Do you love camp and enjoy working with younger children? Would you like to be a camp staff member one day? If so, join us and become a Counselor-in-Training (CIT). This training is one of the best ways to develop skills to become a truly fabulous future camp counselor.

Amongst the Stars

CIT II

Entering Grades 8-12 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1.

Entering Grades 11-12 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1.

Come unravel the mysteries of the night’s sky as we explore the depths of the universe. Explore the camp on night hikes, search for the moon and planets through telescopes, and go stargazing. When not exploring the sky, campers will enjoy all the fun camp has to offer.

This two-week program gives you more responsibility while planning program for younger girls. Shadow staff in specific areas of camp, learn more about camp administration, and assist in planning programming for young campers. You will stay at camp over the weekend. There is an optional third week immediately following the two-week session for those who are interested. In order to be considered for a paid position after the completion of the program, you must be at least 16 years old and participate in the third week.

Advanced Canoeing Entering Grades 9-12 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. Join us for this advanced session where you will go beyond the basics by learning advanced strokes, rescue techniques, and how to solo canoe. End the week taking a canoe trip on Kerr Lake with your fellow paddlers. Participants in this session should have basic canoe skills, be able to swim 100 yards, and tread water for five minutes.

Please note that campers attending a specialty session may not participate in all traditional camp activities due to their schedule.

GIRL SCOUT Troop Camp Spend time exploring the wilds of camp while participating in activities such as tie-dye, swimming, and archery. This session is designed for a group of girls and adults to attend resident camp as a troop or group from your local area. Participants in this weeklong session arrive Sunday afternoon and depart on Friday afternoon alongside traditional resident campers. Meals, all-camp activities, and evening programs are provided by camp staff. Co-leaders and chaperones are responsible for the supervision of girls throughout the session with support from staff. A troop/group must have at least six girl and two adult participants to be eligible to register for troop camp. Girl Scouts attending troop camp will stay in our Tree House unit.

Experience the magic of Camp Hardee and get to know our camp family by attending our free open house event on February 24!

Camp

HARDEE Summer days at Camp Hardee are spent on the beautiful waterfront of the Pamlico River. Girls are able to admire the property while exploring nature and spending quality time with their unit, who are the other girls at camp in the same age group. Each day, girls channel their inner G.I.R.L. by taking on new adventures like swimming, hiking, boating, and arts and crafts. As the smallest of the three properties, Camp Hardee becomes one giant family by allowing girls to make new friends by choosing where they want to sit at each meal and having nightly camp wide activities. In the mornings and afternoons, girls head out to activities where they try new things, develop and hone outdoor skills, and encourage fellow campers to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. The long summer days allow for an evening full of fun and adventure after dinner. Depending on the night of the week, there is a different activity where the entire camp comes together to have a blast. These evening activities include things like a campfire, pool party, international night, or an all-camp activity based on the weekly theme. Girls then head to their air-conditioned bunks to get a good nightâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sleep for the next exciting day at camp.

Every day for our Imagine campers is a new adventure! Spend your week at Camp Hardee trying a little bit of everything, including canoeing on the Pamlico River, swimming in the pool, making an awesome craft, and going on an exciting hike. Counselors sleep in the cabin with all Imagine campers. Of course, the week wouldn’t be complete for our youngest go-getters without a s’more!

It’s time for you to lead your next adventure, and we can’t wait for you to do it at Camp Hardee! Each day will give new ways to have a blast, whether it is archery, boating, crafts, swimming, hiking, or something entirely new. Make new friends and build new memories together. The best thing about being an older girl at camp? You work with your group to plan the best week!

Pioneers at Camp Hardee are true innovators. Take control of your time at Camp Hardee and tell your counselors what you want to do! Work with your new friends in your unit to decide how you will spend your time. Maybe you want to go on a floating lunch, take part in an archery challenge, or work on your dance moves. Sailing I

Entering Grades 6-10 $325 through 3/31. $350 starting 4/1. Sailing can bring you relaxing days on the water or challenging competition. By learning to sail a small boat with a certified instructor, you’ll learn the skills you need to build your confidence and ability to sail the boat well and safely. Campers must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

Sailing II Entering Grades 7-12 $600 through 3/31. $625 starting 4/1. Are you ready for your next sailing challenge? If you’ve completed Sailing I at either Camp Hardee or Camp Graham, join us to further develop your sailing skills and take a day trip on the Pamlico River. Campers must be able to swim 100 yards and tread water for five minutes.

SPECIALTYCamp sessions CIT I Entering Grades 9-10 $275 through 3/31. $300 starting 4/1. Do you love camp and enjoy working with younger children? Would you like to one day be a camp staff member? If so, join us and become a Counselor-in-Training (CIT). This training is one of the best ways to develop skills to become a truly fabulous future camp counselor.

CIT II Entering Grades 11-12 $350 through 3/31. $375 starting 4/1. This two-week program gives you more responsibility while planning program for younger girls. Shadow staff in specific areas of camp, learn more about camp administration, and assist in planning programming for young campers. You will stay at camp over the weekend. There is an optional third week immediately following the two-week session for those who are interested. In order to be considered for a paid position after the completion of the program, you must be at least 16 years old and participate in the third week.

Just Us Girls Camp Mary Atkinson $75 per person June 21-23 or July 5-7 For girls entering all grades Share the camp experience of a G.I.R.L. with your favorite female adult on a two-night adventure at Camp Mary Atkinson! This weekend is all about you, so you’ll have the chance to sign up for the activities you want to do. Join our camp staff to make a craft, canoe the lake, take a hike, or challenge yourself at the Alpine Tower (girls entering grade 4 and up). Enjoy home-cooked meals, sing songs, make s’mores, and create new memories just for the two of you! Lodging will be shared with other girls and adults. All overnight adults must be registered Girl Scouts and have successfully completed a criminal background check. The adult female attending must be 18 years or older (moms, sisters, aunts, etc.).

Me & You Camp Mary Atkinson $35 per person July 27 For girls entering all grades Share a day at Camp Mary Atkinson with your favorite guy! Choose what you want to do as long as you do it together. Go for a swim, check out the pond, make a craft, hike, or just relax. You may even want to challenge yourselves on the Alpine Tower (girls entering grade 4 and up). Lunch will be provided. DAYCamp

Day camps and twilight camps typically serve girls entering grades 1-8 with either day-long or early evening programming. These volunteer-run sessions are offered at various locations throughout the council’s 41-county footprint and provide an enlightening experience for girls to explore new things and meet new friends. Teens have the special opportunity to serve as Program Aides (P.A.) at some camps.

Camp

MARY ATKINSON Mornings at Camp Mary Atkinson bring a variety of activities including boating, archery, swimming, or crafts - just to name a few! Girls will rotate through activities with their lodging unit, while horse campers head to the barn for their day of riding and activities. Depending on age and ability, girls may canoe, kayak, or paddle board on our small lake. Girls may find themselves channeling their inner G.I.R.L. while exploring nature trails, fishing, or playing games. Girls entering grade 4 and up may have a chance to climb the Alpine Tower: best view in camp! The evening brings flag lowering, dinner, and an evening activity such as a pool party, large-group game, or an all-camp activity based on the weekly theme. During the final evening at camp, girls and staff will enjoy a Girl Scout staple - a campfire. Staff lead everyone in much-loved camp songs and units perform skits they’ve created and practiced throughout the week. We can’t wait to see what our G.I.R.L.s bring this year!

It’s time to unearth all the opportunities for fun at Camp Mary Atkinson! Travel with your unit to climb the Alpine Tower, get crafty, and create a unit skit to share at closing campfire. Create your own camp experience! You’ll have all the camp favorites and more to choose from: archery, Swing by Choice at the Alpine Tower, tie-dye, and paddle boarding at the lake, to name a few. Whether it’s revisiting an old favorite or trying something new, being an older girl means working with your amazing counselors to put together a camp experience you’ll never forget!

Can’t get enough of camp? Join us for a two-week session filled with even more of your favorite camp activities, cookouts, and adventures! Decide what activities you most want to do and help your staff plan your schedule. Plan and create a project to leave a positive mark on camp, and take an offsite day trip during the weekend. Campers will stay at camp over the weekend and will have the opportunity to do laundry once while they are at camp.

Horse Camp

Our horse camp program allows you to experience horses in a fun and safe environment. You will learn beginner horseback riding skills, as well as basic care and grooming. All sessions at Camp Mary Atkinson are English riding. All campers are required to wear long pants and boots appropriate for riding. Helmets, saddles, and other riding gear is provided. Girls will spend the majority of each day participating in grooming, riding and other exciting activities with the horses, but there will also be opportunities to enjoy a few general camp activities with your horse-loving pals! *Please note that campers attending a horse session may not have the opportunity to participate in all listed camp activities due to their schedule with horses. Horse session campers will not have the opportunity to climb the Alpine Tower.

Welcome to a week of blazing new trails and gaining valuable skills! Through videos, group discussions, and hands-on practice, you’ll learn teamwork, and receive first aid training for remote settings. Campers must be able to complete the required written and display proficiency of skills in order to obtain certification. Adventure TRIPS

Calling all G.I.R.L.s! Adventure trips are the perfect camp experience for go-getters and risk-takers who are looking to take summer camp to the next level. You will journey off-site from camp each week with your fellow adventurers and spend a few days trying new things, exploring our great state and beyond, and making memories of a lifetime before returning to camp for final campfire on the last night. All trips are based out of Camp Mary Atkinson located in Johnston County.

Take a quick trip to the coast for two days of adventure! Zip through the canopy and see what lives in the trees, then take a boat tour through the swamp while learning about this fascinating ecosystem. We will camp at a public campground and return to camp Friday prior to checkout.

Reach new heights and depths on a climbing and caving adventure! We will head to Boone, North Carolina for a day of rock climbing on natural rock face, then go on a caving expedition in Eastern Tennessee. Camp at a primitive campground, enjoy cooking over a campfire, and explore the natural world around you. 21

Take to the trails of the Pisgah National Forest with the help of llamas carrying your group’s gear. You’ll get an introduction to backpack camping, while learning to get along in nature. As you make your way along wooded trails and gorgeous rivers, you’ll find yourself on a forest safari! Spend the night at camp before heading out, and return to camp in time for a campfire on Thursday night.

With this session, you will get to experience a rafting trip in West Virginia. Stay at camp for the night, and then head to ACE Adventure Resort to raft down the river, zipline, and much more. This trip is perfect for risk-takers and innovators, as STEM learning will be incorporated into the rafting experience.

Hike North Carolina’s Waterfalls

Entering Grades 7-12 $450 through 3/31. $475 starting 4/1. Take a trip to the beach to spend some time with your camp friends learning to surf! The Wrightsville Beach Surf Camp will have you catching waves with three days of lessons at Kure Beach. Camp at a public campground and enjoy cooking your own meals. Girls must be able to swim 100 yards, tread water for five minutes, stay underwater for short periods of time, and lift a lightweight surfboard.

Spend a week on a hunt for Western North Carolina’s best waterfalls! Campers will stay in a public campground while they hike to some of our state’s beautiful falls. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest, find a waterfall to walk or swim under, and hike the trails with your new camp friends.

Register online through the council’s online registration system by visiting www.nccoastalpines.org and clicking on the CAMPS menu tab. Resident camp registration opens on February 4, 2019. Any girl who will be entering grades 2 through 12 as of Fall 2019 can register for resident camp at that time, regardless of whether or not she is a Girl Scout member. Non-Girl Scout members will pay a $75 nonmember fee per session. This is an additional fee added to both discounted and non-discounted camp pricing. Additional camp opportunities such as troop camp and family camp are open to listed grade levels. Registration opens for these opportunities on February 4, 2019.

All resident camp registrations require a $100 nonrefundable deposit that will be applied towards the total camp fee. Day camp registration does not require a deposit, but must be paid in full at time of registration.

Note: Fees for camp extras are due at the time of registration.

Day camp registration opens March 4, 2019. All girls ages 5-17 are invited to participate. Accepted grade-levels are to be determined by the local day camp. Meet Alicia

She loves working on community service projects and always leads her troop in cookie sales. She’s dedicated to her troop, she’ll do anything you ask her to do to help, and is flourishing through the Girl Scout program. Alicia’s mom is a single, working mom. In the spring, her mother was evicted from their home. They are now living with Alicia’s grandmother.

You would be hard-pressed to find a Girl Scout more deserving of a campership. A once-in-a-lifetime trip to summer camp couldn’t have come at a better time - providing Alicia a safe, supportive environment during a period of intense transition and uncertainty. As a rising sixth grader, Alicia attended Around the World Week at Camp Mary Atkinson. Nature hikes, archery, swimming, the 50-foot alpine climbing tower, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding! Final Payment Date Camp fees must be paid in full by May 1, 2019. Your camper’s registration will be cancelled, and no refund will be made if payment is not received by the deadline. Depending on the number of girls on the waitlist, your camper’s slot may be filled immediately. Please be mindful of this important date, as we usually have wait listed other girls who want to attend camp. Payments can be made online or via check, credit card, or Cookie Dough at one of our four service center locations. Financial assistance is also available for those in need.

Early Registration Incentive All registrations placed prior to March 31 will be billed at the discounted rate published in this year’s program guide. Any registration received after March 31 will be billed at the higher rate listed in the guide. The $75 non-member fee will be added to the registration fees regardless of whether the registration is received before or after March 31.

A significant amount of planning time and money are spent months prior to the start of camp. Prompt cancellation notification allows time for girls who may be on the camp session’s waiting list to attend camp. If you find that your camper can no longer attend a camp session, please notify the council as early as possible.

Camp Extras Purchases Payments for Trading Post gift cards, camp care packages, T-Shirts, and photos are fully refundable with a two-week written notice prior to the camp session. Please email your cancellation notice and request for refund to helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org.

The easiest way to apply your Cookie Dough toward these activities is to choose this option on the Superstar Destinations survey. Camp Financial Assistance Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines understands the value of camp and continues to provide financial support to offer these important programs at affordable rates. Camp fees cover most council direct costs such as food, program supplies, supplementary health and accident insurance, and camp counselor salaries. Indirect costs such as planning and administering the program, registration, and property maintenance are costs subsidized by the council. Our council’s total expense for a week at one of our three Girl Scout resident summer camps exceeds $650 per girl. Families are only asked, on average, to pay $325 per girl. Did you know that cookies help to make summer camp happen? Proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Program help our council provide high-quality summer experiences for all girls regardless of their socio-economic status.

Camperships Financial assistance in the form of camperships enables all girls to enjoy the Girl Scout camp experience. Camperships are made possible thanks to our many generous donors and are available to currently registered Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines members who are unable to pay the total cost of a camp experience. To be considered for a campership, a girl must be a registered Girl Scout member, have selected and registered for her summer camp session, and paid the non-refundable deposit fee. For more information about camperships or to apply online, please visit www.nccoastalpines.org. A request form is included on page 26. Applications are due by April 1. Please note: Families may apply for up to $200 in financial assistance per girl member. Awards are limited to one session per girl member, not to exceed $200. Sue “Skipper” Csorba Award The Sue “Skipper” Csorba Award is a campership honoring a Girl Scout alumna from Annapolis, Maryland. Sue Csorba was committed to giving girls outdoor experiences and determined to have an inclusive troop of girls from all races, incomes, and family situations. With Sue Csorba’s vision and passion in mind, the fund provides a limited number of summer camp awards each summer. Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines will provide these awards based on need, and will consider a variety of factors including financial, family, and home situation. Priority is given to first-time campers. Applications are due to the Raleigh Service Center by January 15, 2019. For the Csorba Award, a deposit is not required with the campership application. Recipients will be notified of their award by February 4, 2019. This award excludes horse camps, family fun sessions, leadership camps, and adventure trips. 25

Employment Opportunities Have fun at camp and get paid too! Girl Scouts â&#x20AC;&#x201C; North Carolina Coastal Pines is hiring staff for our resident camps. Positions include unit counselors, waterfront staff, program staff, kitchen staff, and health supervisors. Staff members receive a salary, meals, housing, and training. Are you in the health care profession? We look for health care professionals to serve as the health supervisor for a week or the entire summer at all three resident camps. Working at camp is a great way to experience the fun of the campers and get paid too!
