Dear New Girl Scout Leaders,
Congratulations on starting your journey as a troop volunteer. You are making a difference in the lives of Girl Scouts as well as creating memories and having tons of fun!
This bag contains six meeting kits, each containing activities you can use to earn one badge. Some of the supplies you need for each activity are included in the kits.
Besides the items included in the kit, what else will I need to run my meetings?
• Badges. These are available in our in-person shops or online at www.girlscoutshop.com
• One ream of white paper. A few tablets of art paper would also work well for this purpose.
• Reusable art supplies. Examples include markers, crayons, pencils, scissors, and glue. Many new leaders ask families to bring in one of each item to add to the troop kit, so there is one per Girl Scout.
• Additional supplies. Some meeting activities require a few additional supplies which are not included, such as a device connected to the internet (for instructional videos), food items, water, dishes, and other simple household materials. Don’t worry—most of these items are ones you have on hand! Make sure to read through the meeting plans and review the included items before your meeting so you can gather anything else you might need—and you can always ask caregivers to bring items to the meeting. Preparation won’t take long, but it is an important step!
Is there a particular order we should earn the badges in?
We recommend doing the “Welcome to Girl Scouts” meeting plan rst, as it is set up to be one of the rst troop meetings. However, the rest of the badges can be earned in an order that works for you. One way to start adding in the girl-led focus would be to let the Girl Scouts vote on which one they would like to earn next!
Do we have to do ALL the activities on the meeting plan sheet to earn that badge?
You choose! Girl Scouts is about the spirit or intent of a badge, not checking off a to-do list. Most activity plans include four or ve activities to help Girl Scouts earn their badge, but your meeting length and setting may change your approach. In addition, if you want to modify the activity idea or come up with your own activities that teach the concept, that is great too!
How many supplies are included? Will I have enough for my troop?
We have included enough supplies for 12 Girl Scouts to complete each activity, but it will depend on how they are used. In many cases, the Girl Scouts can share the supplies, or you can supplement with things you have on hand. If you have a large troop and are short of an item and don’t have it easily accessible, feel free to contact the council and we will help!
Is each badge designed to be completed/earned in one meeting?
That is totally up to you! Depending on the activities you choose and the length of your meetings, a badge could be earned in one meeting or split up over several sessions.
Are these badges the only badges or activities we will work on this year? Should this kit be our primary source of activities?
Girl Scouting is exible, and volunteers can customize their troop program based on your Girl Scouts’ interests and available resources. This kit is meant as a convenient resource to help your troop get started. You are welcome to work with the kids on other badges, eld trips, service projects, or whatever sparks your interest!

Girl Scout welcome:
In Girl Scouts, we have a Promise and a Law that share who we are and how we want to be in our world. Let’s learn them together! Make the Girl Scout sign and say the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law together.
Introduction and icebreaker:
The groups of Girl Scouts who meet for activities and adventures are called Girl Scout troops—and that’s what we are! In Girl Scouts, we will get to do fun activities together, like trying science experiments, exploring nature, and creating art! What is something you want to do in Girl Scouts this year?
Activity 1: Toss up names.
Supplies: Ball
Stand in a circle. One person starts by holding the ball and introducing themselves (“Hi, I’m [name]!”) Then they toss to another person. Whoever catches the ball has to say, “Thanks, [name]” to the initial thrower, and introduce themselves as they throw to the next person. Go around until everyone has had a chance to catch the ball. After everyone has received the ball, ask the Girl Scouts to start over and repeat the same pattern even faster!
Activity 2: What are our troop norms?
Supplies: Large paper or poster board, coloring supplies
Everyone has different ideas on what’s “normal.” One person might think it’s acceptable to interrupt someone because their idea is so great it can’t wait to be shared. Another person might think that it’s okay to not participate if they just don’t feel like it. To avoid frustrating situations where no one is sure what is right or wrong, it’s a good idea to develop a list of troop norms.
Ask the Girl Scouts:
• How should we treat each other in Girl Scouts?
• How should we act in Girl Scouts?
Have a Girl Scout or a leader write the answers down on a piece of paper so that the group can see. After the list is finished, have each Girl Scout sign the page.
Volunteer note: Successful troop norms are established and implemented when:
• Every member of the troop is present.
• Every member of the troop has a chance to say what they feel should be included in the list of norms.
• All ideas are considered, and recurring themes are condensed.
• Norms use positive wording (e.g., “use indoor voices” instead of “don’t yell”).
• Norms are concise—the fewer words used, the better.
• The number of norms is kept under ten.
• The finished list is posted clearly at every troop meeting. It can also be beneficial to talk about what would happen should the norms not be followed. This way it holds the girls and yourself accountable to anything that happens at the troop meetings.
Sample troop norms list:
• Greet each other with a smile.
• Be present.
• Always look for ways to help.
• It’s okay to be wrong.
• Do what’s best for the whole group.
• Practice good manners.
Activity 3: Girl Scout Law Relay Race

• Celebrate one another.
• Be a sister to every Girl Scout.
The Girl Scout Law and our troop norms remind us how we want to be in our world and what it means to be a Girl Scout. Being a Girl Scout is more than just attending troop meetings and selling cookies. In our Girl Scout Promise, we promise to live by the Girl Scout Law.
To help us learn the Girl Scout Law, we’re going to have a relay race! Race in two teams to put the Girl Scout Law back together in order. Start on one side of the room and pick a finish line on the other. Line up in two teams. Place the relay race pieces near the start line. One Girl Scout on each team grabs their piece, runs to the finish, places it in order, runs back, and tags the next Girl Scout in line. Then the next Girl Scout grabs their piece and repeats the process. The first team to have their Girl Scout Law correctly arranged wins!
Activity 4: Girl Scout Law Bookmark

To help us remember our Girl Scout Law when we go home, let’s color a bookmark!
Wrap-up:
End the meeting with a friendship circle and a friendship squeeze. Have the Girl Scouts help with any clean-up tasks. Talk about what you are doing at the next meeting, get their ideas for activities, and share upcoming meeting dates, homework, volunteer needs, and other relevant information with caregivers as they arrive for pick-up. Consider sending a follow-up text with this information if needed.

Terminamos la reunión de Girl Scouts con un círculo de amistad y un apretón de mano. Haz que las girl scouts ayuden con las tareas de limpieza.
