On my honor, I will try: To serve God* and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
*Members may substitute for the word God in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.
Icebreaker: Have each girl introduce themselves and share something that makes them happy!
Pick at least three of the following activities to complete to earn this petal!
You can do these all in one meeting or over several meetings if you wish. Feel free to be creative, and modify or supplement these ideas with your own activities around the theme of making the world a better place.
Activity 1: Talk about it!
Ask the girls:
What is one thing we can do to make the world a better place?
Why is it important to help others?
In addition to helping people, what are some other things we can do to make the world better?
Activity 2: Bring joy and beauty to the world!
Use the sidewalk chalk (included) to go outside and draw happy pictures or messages on the sidewalk! This is sure to brighten people’s day! (You may have to ask permission from your meeting site.)
Activity 3: Make the world better for people in your community!
Have a donation drive! Select a nonpro t such as a food pantry or clothes closet and talk with the girls about how they help people in their community. Ask girls and families to bring in non-perishable food items, gently used clothing, or another agency need to donate. If you wish, you could make this into a larger troop project, and make posters and boxes to collect items in your school, neighborhood, or place of worship.
Activity 4: Make the world better for animals!
Make a Cheerio bird feeder: Make a loop at one end of a pipe cleaner (included), and twist to secure. Thread the pipe cleaner with Cheerios (not included). Make a loop and twist the other end to secure the Cheerios. If you wish, bend it into a shape, such as a heart, circle, or twist. Thread a piece of yarn or ribbon (included) through the loops and hang from a tree for birds or squirrels to enjoy!

Make a spider cat toy: Cut two pipe cleaners in half. Lay them down crossed in the shape of a star and twist them together in the center. Fold the legs down to make feet for the spider. Give it to a cat friend or donate to a local animal rescue!

Activity 5: Invite a special guest or go on a eld trip!
Invite someone from an animal shelter, the medical eld, or another helping profession to talk about their job and how they make the world a better place! Have the girls take turns asking questions. If possible, consider taking a eld trip to their facility for a hands-on learning experience.
Wrap-up:
End the meeting with a friendship circle/friendship squeeze. Have the girls help with any clean-up tasks. Talk about what you are doing at the next meeting, get their ideas for activities, and share upcoming meeting dates, homework, volunteer needs, etc. with parents as they arrive for pick-up. Consider sending a follow-up text with this information if needed.
