Camp Philosophy & Camp Life Camping provides girls a rich experience away from home. Camp is a great place for a girl to unlock her potential and discover the world and the great outdoor adventures that await her! This unique environment helps her develop positive self-esteem, leadership skills, and social skills all while having the time of her life. Diversity and inclusion have been our core values since our founding in 1912. Girl Scouts of Utah and Girl Scouts of the USA value and celebrate diversity. Our sisterhood is committed to providing a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment for every girl and her family. This is at the core of who we are - it’s about being a sister to every Girl Scout. The summer camp experience is truly a building block in the development of girls into successful and resourceful young women. In this outdoor setting, girls develop a strong sense of self, gain practical life sills, become resourceful problem solvers, and cultivate healthy relationships by living and working together.

Meet The Outdoor Program Team At Girl Scouts of Utah, we know you want your camper to have a chance for personal development in a safe environment. We also know girls want to have a fun adventure. We work to provide both, by hiring and training qualified staff and offering a quality outdoor experience. Girl Scouts of Utah’s full-time Outdoor Program team is in place to ensure an exceptional experience for your Girl Scout – and peace of mind for you. We look forward to meeting all of you and can’t wait for your adventure to begin!

Senior Director Of Programs In a world of screens, our girls need to engage with their environment. In a world of competition, our girls need connection. In a world of cynicism, they need support. Girl Scout camp is the place where that all happens. In this safe, girl-only, girl-led setting, girls discover the power within themselves. They find the strength and resilience to confidently navigate their lives. My work at summer camps for seven years and at Girl Scouts of Utah for 18 years has affirmed for me the importance of the outdoor experience. That’s why I’m here. I look forward to supporting our Girl Scouts through another summer of adventure and growth!

Camp Cloud Rim Director

Trefoil Ranch Director

I became a Camp Director so I could influence the character growth in the girls we serve, resulting in confident and brave go-getters. My hope is that all girls who come to Camp Cloud Rim feel a sense of family and belonging. Born and raised in Nebraska, I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Journalism. I volunteer as an American Camp Association (ACA) visitor and as the Utah State Representative on the Local Council of Leaders for the Southwest ACA section. I have been a Camp Director for 15 summers, and I am super excited to spend the 16th summer at Camp Cloud Rim directing in-person camp experiences once again!

My favorite thing about camp is seeing the pure joy a girl experiences when she completes a new challenge – that grin on her face says she can do anything she puts her mind to. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Leisure, Youth, and Human Services. In total, I have been a member of camp staff at various Girl Scout camps for 12 summers, including Camp Cloud Rim and Trefoil Ranch. In addition to my camp experience, I also completed a semester with the National Outdoor Leadership School’s Outdoor Education program. I have loved my time directing Trefoil Ranch since 2016, and can’t wait for your girl to join us at camp in 2021!

Camp Counselors Our counselors are energetic and caring role models selected based on talents, skills, and experience. Counselors receive intensive training on risk management, program development, Girl Scout program and philosophy, age level characteristics, environmental education, behavior management, and outdoor skills. Additional training is given for adventure programs. All staff are CPR and First Aid certified. Male camp staff support horses, ropes course, archery, waterfront, and rock climbing, as well as kitchen and administration.

ACCREDITATION Girl Scouts of Utah Camps are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and meet high standards for program design and activities, site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operation management, and human resources.

Paying For Camp Camp fees help cover all of the expenses associated with camp such as property maintenance, utilities, insurance, gear, supplies, food, activities, and staff. It is important to us that camp fees are not a barrier to participation. We have developed several ways to help pay for camp: Activity Credits, Tiered Pricing, and Activity Scholarships. Camp payments are due in full by May 20, 2021. Each camp requires a $50 nonrefundable deposit in addition to the number of packages sold.

Tiered Pricing Tiered pricing makes it possible for all campers to have the same experience regardless of what their caregiver can afford. Tiered prices are listed with each camp session description and should be selected based on the camper’s budget. Girl Scouts of Utah strives to ensure all girls have the opportunity to experience camp. No financial documentation is required. Tier One (T1):

Tier Two (T2):

Tier Three (T3):

The actual cost to run camps: staffing, program supplies, food, and maintenance costs.

Partially subsidized cost for families that can pay a little more, but not the actual cost of camp.

The standard fee that all families are asked to pay. Girl Scouts of Utah subsidizes the entire remainder of the cost.

Activity scholarships are available if assistance is needed to pay for Tier Three.

Activity Scholarships This program provides assistance for individual girl members who are registered Girl Scouts and wish to attend Girl Scouts of Utah-sponsored camps or programs, but are unable, due to financial restraints. This program is not a reward, nor is it a way to repay volunteer work a caregiver might have done in Girl Scouting. The decision to grant an activity scholarship, and the amount, is based on information provided on the application form. All information is confidential and discussed only by those responsible for allocating money. Applications for an activity scholarship may be submitted after the completion of the initial registration and a $50 non-refundable deposit is paid. Scholarship applications are due April 1. Scholarship awards will be applied to camp balances no later than May 1. All applications received after April 1 will be awarded based on funding available at that time.

10

Activity Credits Girl Scout programming is powered by the Girl Scout Cookie Program through Activity Credits. Girls receive Activity Credits to help pay for summer camps, day camps, program activities, Girl Scout membership fees, and items in the Girl Scout Shop. For every 50 packages of cookies (from 50-349 packages), girls earn $12.50.

For every 50 packages of cookies (starting at 350+ packages), girls earn $15.00.

If a girl sells 1,500 packages of cookies, she can go to a week of horse camp using Activity Credits! Each camp or activity indicates the number of packages of cookies a girl needs to sell in order to attend that program using Activity Credits. Girls can work with a supportive adult to use these quantities to help set their cookie selling goals. Use your 2019 Activity Credits as payment for a 2021 Resident Camp! Remember your 2019 Activity Credits Expire December 23, 2020. We are accepting 2019 Activity Credits for deposit payments due to COVID, however, typically deposits are to be made with a credit card. Mail in your 2019 Activity Credits to the GSU office by December 10, 2020. — Include a note to apply the AC’s to your camper’s summer camp balance. — Include your camper’s name and their parent/guardian’s name. — Your UltraCamp account will be credited for the amount received. Register for your camper’s resident camp session by December 31, 2020. Your credit will be automatically applied to your camp balance, including the required deposit. Action needed: If you do not have an UltraCamp account, you need to create one prior to mailing in the Activity Credits.
