Girl Scouts are more likely than non-Girl Scouts to: Have a strong sense of self (80% vs. 68%) Have positive values (75% vs. 59%) Seek challenges and learn from setbacks (62% vs. 42%) Develop and maintain healthy relationships (60% vs. 43%) Exhibit community problem-solving skills (57% vs. 28%) 3

Camp Philosophy & Camp Life

Camping provides girls a rich experience away from home. Camp is a great place for a girl to unlock her potential and discover the world and the great outdoor adventures that await her. This unique environment helps her develop positive self-esteem, leadership skills, and social skills all while having the time of her life. The summer camp experience is truly a building block in the development of girls into successful and resourceful young women. In this outdoor setting, girls develop a strong sense of self, gain practical life skills, become resourceful problem solvers, and cultivate healthy relationships by living and working together. 4

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Access (DEIA), and Advocacy

Girl Scouts has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access, and we embrace Girl Scouts of all abilities and backgrounds into our wonderful sisterhood. Inclusion is at the core of who we are; it’s about being a sister to every Girl Scout and celebrating our unique strengths. Girl Scouts welcomes all members, regardless of race, ethnicity, background, cognitive or physical abilities, family structure, religious beliefs, political beliefs, sexual orientation, gender identity, and socioeconomic status.* *If your child has a serious medical condition, such as a heart condition, seizure disorder, severe allergies, diabetes, etc., or has a mental or behavioral disorder that may require more support for them to be successful, please contact the Camp Directors so they can work with you to find the most appropriate program. In addition, Girl Scouts of Utah has a partnership with Camp Kostopulos, located near Salt Lake City, which specializes in serving children with special needs. 5

At Girl Scouts of Utah, we know you want your camper to have a chance for personal development in a safe environment. We also know campers want to have a fun adventure. We work to provide both, by hiring and training qualified staff and offering a quality outdoor experience. Girl Scouts of Utah’s full-time Outdoor Program team is in place to ensure an exceptional experience for your Girl Scout – and peace of mind for you. Meet the Outdoor Program Team in the Camp Orientation Guide at www.gsutah.org/camp-guide Girl Scouts of Utah Camps are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA) and meet high standards for program design and activities, site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operation management, and human resources. 6

Camp Counselors

Our counselors are energetic and caring role models selected based on talents, skills, and experience. Counselors receive intensive training on risk management, program development, Girl Scout program and philosophy, age level characteristics, environmental education, behavior management, and outdoor skills. Additional training is given for adventure programs. All staff are CPR and first aid certified. Male camp staff support horses, ropes course, archery, waterfront, and rock climbing, as well as kitchen and administration.

9

Camp & COVID-19 The safety of our Girl Scouts, volunteers, and staff is the highest priority for Girl Scouts of Utah. Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and the American Camp Association (ACA), we have made changes to the camp operations including: — Health screenings — Small camper groups — Face coverings

— Frequent hand washing — Enhanced sanitation and food service protocols

More details on our COVID-19 protocols can be found at www.gsutah.org/ camp-guide. Protocol information is subject to change. We will continue to monitor this very fluid situation and make updates regularly.

Paying for Camp Camp fees help cover all the expenses associated with camp such as property maintenance, utilities, insurance, gear, supplies, food, activities, and staff. It is important to us that camp fees are not a barrier to participation. We have developed several ways to help pay for camp: Activity Credits, Tiered Pricing, and Activity Scholarships. Camp payments are due in full by May 19, 2022.

Activity Credits Girl Scout programming is powered by the Girl Scout Cookie Program through Activity Credits. Sellers receive Activity Credits to help pay for summer camps, day camps, program activities, Girl Scout membership fees, and items in the Girl Scout Shop. For every 50 packages of cookies (from 50-349 boxes), Girl Scouts earn $12.50.

For every 50 packages of cookies (starting at 350+ boxes), Girl Scouts earn $15.00.

Each camp or activity indicates the number of packages of cookies to sell to attend that program using Activity Credits. Girl Scouts can work with a supportive adult to use these quantities to help set their cookie selling goals. Each camp requires a $50 non-refundable deposit in addition to the number of packages sold. To apply Activity Credits to a camp balance, simply bring in or mail the credits to any Girl Scout office with a note indicating to which camper and which program the credits should be applied. You will receive an email confirmation once the payment has been applied.

10

Tiered Pricing Tiered pricing makes it possible for all campers to have the same experience regardless of what their caregiver can afford. Tiered prices are listed with each camp session description and should be selected based on the camper’s budget. Girl Scouts of Utah strives to ensure all campers have the opportunity to experience camp. No financial documentation is required. Tier One (T1):

Tier Two (T2):

Tier Three (T3):

The actual cost to run camps: staffing, program supplies, food, and maintenance costs.

Partially subsidized cost for families that can pay a little more, but not the actual cost of camp.

The standard fee that all GSU members are asked to pay. Girl Scouts of Utah subsidizes the entire remainder of the cost.

Available to: GSU members, members from other councils, non-members.

Available to: GSU members, members from other councils.

Available to: GSU members only

Activity scholarships are available for Girl Scouts of Utah members if assistance is needed to pay for Tier Three (T3).

Activity Scholarships This program provides assistance to individual campers who are registered Girl Scouts of Utah members and wish to attend Girl Scouts of Utahsponsored camps or programs, but are unable due to financial restraints. This program is not a reward, nor is it a way to repay volunteer work a caregiver might have done in Girl Scouting. The decision to grant an activity scholarship, and the amount, is based on information provided on the application form. All information is confidential and discussed only by those responsible for allocating money. Note: Scholarship applications for resident camp and troop camping may be submitted between March 1 and March 31, 2022. All applications received after April 1 will be awarded based on funding available at that time. Scholarships for other camp programs (i.e., minicamps) are accepted throughout the year. For more information regarding Activity Scholarships, refer to the Girl Scouts of Utah’s Financial Assistance webpage at www.gsutah.org/pay-for-camp 11

Campers entering grades 9-12 will learn outdoor skills and how to pack a backpack, then hit the trail and spend two nights in the back country. Enjoy magnificent views, cook dinner, and stargaze at night. Campers will earn the Adventure Camper or Survival Camper badge. They will be transported to program sites by camp staff and should be able to carry a backpack three to five miles each day for three days. Individual and group gear will be distributed among the campers and staff to ensure campers are only carrying up to quarter of their body weight. Fee includes off-site backpacking experience.

Whether it’s your first time at camp or you’re a well-seasoned camp adventurer, this is your chance to do it all! You’ll work with your counselors to design your group’s schedule for the week, filled with things that you and your new friends want to explore! Try a little bit of everything at camp as you add hatchet throwing, the high ropes course, woodworking, archery, cookouts, and more into your schedule. As you design your camp experience, your counselors will ensure you earn your Archery badge and learn some new skills along the way.
