Fanny

success in her early years‌.

CHAPTER ONE Fanny Linden, was an intelligent, clever little girl. This was hard to tell only through her thin and emaciated appearance. Raised by a middle-class family, Fanny knew how to play her role properly and nicely. Growing up with six siblings, whose ages were quite a distance from hers, little Fanny experienced new life lessons all the time. Actually, her

Fanny

personality was formed by circumstance. Sometimes she felt lonely inside, but she was never really alone. Last Monday was her seventh birthday and the first day she started her elementary school life. She was exited about going to school because she could carry new bags, meet new friends, discover new things and learn knowledge. To her, studying was a cool thing. Anyway, it never occurred to her that she was going to face a variety of unforgettable and

6

Fanny

humiliating experiences. Her first impression of her school was old-fashioned but still remained neat and tidy. In contrast, the class was clamorous. It was obvious that the teacher hadn’t arrived yet. Fanny was surprised to find out that the class was actually divided into two groups, the girls sat in the front while the boys sat in the back. After a few minutes, some students began to show impatience waiting for teacher. They started to act wildly.

Fanny

“Quiet Down!”

Fanny stood up and

shouted out loudly. Soon, the teacher walked in. “Good morning, everyone. I’m your teacher Lillian Cody, you can call me Lily. It’s nice to meet you all. And now let’s begin our lessons, shall we?” Fanny just loved Lily. Because of her, she was not that angry anymore. The teacher was kind and attentive, and treated students like her own children. After the first period, the teacher announced that there was going to be an election during

8

Fanny

the second period of class. She wanted everyone to recommend some candidates. The classmates thought Fanny would be a great leader. Surprisingly, she was nominated praiseworthily. Finally, she was elected as class leader. She was shocked at the first moment, but flattered. She realized that she was going to have a succession of responsibilities, and she must be qualified. Basically, she was doing a good job. She participated in many competitions such as running race,

9

Fanny

writing competition and more. Also, she won a lot of prizes. Fanny Linden soon became the most popular and well-known person on campus. She turned into a celebrity. But the luck didn’t always seem to be on her side.

CHAPTER TWO Then, a brief interlude happened. Fanny was envied by Brenda, a close friend of hers. The two of them became good friends at the beginning of the very first day of school. Because they loved to read books and discussed fresh things together. They had a lot in common. But things changed. While Fanny became welcome and popular, Brenda felt like a nameless

11

Fanny

person beside her. She felt that she was never good enough to become Fanny’s good friend. So, evil ideas in her mind appeared. She started to stir up troublesome businesses. She exposed bad things which were not true. She told everybody that Fanny had cheated on exams, oppressed classmates and was even alienated during the time she was the class leader. A kind classmate told Fanny that Brenda had disseminated negative comments at her secretly. “What? She

12

Fanny

really did? Are you sure? replied Fanny unbelievably. To her, Brenda would be the last person to do these kind of ugly things. She not only felt uncomfortable but heartbroken. But Fanny didn’t evaded. She faced the rumors bravely and then started to fight back. This was one good point of Fanny, she never tried to avoid anything and she believed that action spoke louder than words. She improved each misdeed rapidly in order to show her capability. Luckily, she was supported and

13

Fanny

accepted by most of her classmates. She felt gratified once again and decided to forgive Brenda. She believed that Brenda didn’t mean to do with such horrible deed. Finally, because of Fanny’s generous forgiveness, they became bosom friends again. Brenda was ashamed of herself and apologized to Fanny sincerely. She was as happy to have a good friend like Fanny.

CHAPTER THREE Another interesting incident happened during Fanny’s elementary school life. Time passed, and Fanny was now a sixth grade student. There was going to be a graduated journey before she began her junior-high school life. The class decided to visit some northern cities as their destinations for the graduated journey. Lily announced that she would assemble

15

Fanny

everybody at seven o’clock in front of the campus’s gate. She also reminded that lateness weren’t accepted. Fanny haven’t had any similar experience before, she was so excited and couldn’t fall asleep that night. The next day, Fanny hurried to school because she didn’t want to miss any little thing about the journey. When she arrived at school, she was surprised to find out that there was no one waiting there. She looked around and was confused. She then looked at her watch.

16

Fanny

“Oh my god, it’s only six o’clock!” said Fanny, laughing. Later on at seven, Lily started to check the number of students. And so, the journey began. It was quite an exhausting and tiring drive. The bus arrived at the hotel in the evening. Actually, it was not a hotel but a tavern as well. Although the tavern’s exterior seemed neat and immaculate, after the students entered the interior, it was totally different from what they expected. Narrow spaces, terrible sanitary

17

Fanny

equipment, shabby beds and awful room service really made the students disappointed and irritated. Fanny decided to cheer others up by playing hide and seek. They played all night until Lily told them to take a bath and get ready for bed. So, all the students returned to their own rooms quietly. As one of Fanny’s roommates was taking a shower, suddenly a scream came right out from the bathroom. “What happened, Gina?” asked Fanny anxiously. ”There’s no hot water

18

Fanny

coming out, I’m so cold!” replied Gina. “You wait inside, I’ll look for help, ok?” promised Fanny. At the same time, students from other rooms came out and said that they also didn’t have any hot water. Fanny rushed to see Lily. Twenty minutes later, they came back with the manager of the tavern. He declared to everyone that tonight the tavern was running out of hot water because there were too many people using it at the same time. The solution is that if anybody

19

Fanny

wanted to take a shower, roommates needed to wash together in order to save energy. After explanation, everyone started to move restlessly. They were shocked. Thanks to Lily’s appeasement, the students began to show understanding for the tavern. Fanny was satisfied about the outcome. Afterward, the four roommates decided to take a quick hot shower together and washed away the tiredness of the day. Each girl was shy and embarrassed to have this kind of

20

Fanny

experience. But it was also the most unforgettable life-experience for them. CHAPTER FOUR After graduating from elementary school as an honors student, Fanny began to participate in many activities. She was elated to meet new friends and try new things out. During the last summer vacation before she attended junior-high, she took an entrance examination. The purpose of taking this exam was to enter a private school which enrolled only good

21

Fanny

students. The reputation of this school was quite outstanding. And it also took the first position in Fanny’s ideal school chart. After a few months, the result of the examination finally came out. Fanny did well on the exam as usual. On September 15th, Fanny Linden attended the school for the first time. The school was a Female Catholic School. When Fanny entered the school, she soon found out that there were lots of sisters, and as a matter of fact, they were all teachers! Fanny was happy that

22

Fanny

there were no boys in the school, she preferred studying with girls much more. It was such a fresh and brand new environment for her. She couldn’t stop her eye from discovering newfangled things at this Catholic school. Actually, the whole campus area was quite small, like a mini schoolyard. Because of its tiny area, it was possible to finish wandering around the campus within half an hour. Later, Fanny started to find her own classroom where she was going to stay during the following

23

Fanny

semester. Unfortunately, she was late for the first period of class. She spent too much time hanging around the campus. The class was handing out new text books while she moved slowly and quietly into the classroom. The whole process was in high effect. Fanny was completely an outsider, and she actually wasn’t quite into the situation yet, so she asked one of her classmates sitting next to her. “ Excuse me, what am I supposed to do now? ” asked Fanny confusedly. “Oh, the class

24

Fanny

leader will collect the money for the text books later on. We should…. ” “ Money ? For goodness’ sake, I totally forgot to bring the money. Could you, um..um…lend some money to me? I’ll be extremely grateful ” Fanny asked embarrassingly. “Sure, no problem.” The classmate then took out her wallet and lent some money to Fanny without consideration. “By the way, I’m Shandy, nice to meet you. What’s your name?” “Fanny. Fanny Linden. It’s also my

25

Fanny

pleasure to meet you, too, Shandy. Therefore, Fanny’s emergency was easily solved by Shandy. The two girls were bosom friends since then. They studied together, played together, and they even slept together! They stuck to each other all the time. In addition, the class was an interesting one. There were students from different nationalities. They shared their life experiences and cultural differences during break times. To Fanny, she got to widen her horizon. She was surprised to

26

Fanny

find out that her classmates were all very talented. For instance, the class leader, Naomi, could speak five different languages in total, English, Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese and a little bit of Korean. Joey, who came up with interesting ideas all the time, was the clown in the class. Other classmates were all kind and friendly, not to mention that Fanny felt content and proud with her class. Besides, their tutor was a cute pregnant teacher who loved to speak

27

Fanny

Taiwanese even though she was not good at it. There was always laughter in her class because students would make fun over her. Fortunately, the teacher had good a temper and manner, so the students didn’t have to suffer punishment from her. Fanny’s most favorite class at school was music class. Why? It was because of their attractive and charming teacher who looked just like a little mermaid. The class called her Miss Ariel. Fanny loved to sing, and she wanted to have a sweet-sounding

28

Fanny

voice like Miss Ariel. To Fanny, the way she sang was like an angel, and that was exactly the way she wanted to sound. The interesting part was that the editor of the text book was precisely Miss Ariel. With its vivid and plentiful content, students just simply loved having music classes. Furthermore, Miss Ariel loved to interact with students by playing games created by herself, such as “I Am Mozart” or “Let’s play notes”, stuff like that.

CHAPTER FIVE There was an old tradition in Fanny’s Female Catholic School, an annual Classical English Literature Play Competition. The class had finally decided to adapt one of the novels written by Jane Austin, Mansfield Park, in a brand new version. After a keen competition, Fanny received the chance to play the role of leading actress in the play. Coincidently,

30

Fanny

the name of the leading actress in the play was also called Fanny. Anyway, Fanny was glad to have the role, and was eager to prove her ability in acting. Then, a professional actor carefully explained the character’s personality in the play to the students. She also taught them how to act naturally and true to life. Fanny suddenly realized how much preparation an outstanding actor should do before an excellent show could be performed. It was never an easy and relaxed task. The

31

Fanny

competition was considered one of the most important campaigns of the semester. Because the class wanted to win the competition so badly, they arranged their rehearsal schedule tightly. They decided to grasp every practice moment. Although there were quarrels during practices, everybody learned from these mistakes and made reflection each time. As the performance day was closing in, the whole team was already well-prepared. Finally, the day arrived. Fanny was so anxious to

32

Fanny

present her role to the audience. A huge crowd of people were attracted to the school by its reputation. The stage was luxurious, the atmosphere was perfectly comfortable, every thing was ready. And here came the climax, it was Fanny’s turn to perform. Nervousness around her, she eased her breath, relaxed, and started performing. The play proceeded smoothly, without any shortcomings. Soon, the performance came to an end. It was successful. Fanny’s class completed an

33

Fanny

unbelievable task. Their play was a smash hit. The whole performance was amazing. When the judges announced that the prize winner for “The Leading Actress was Fanny, she cried. She cried at the very first moment because it was like a dream, an amazing dream for her. What a wonderful night. For Fanny, she not only obtained acting experiences but also learned the importance of cooperation in team work. She had never been so grateful and satisfied.

34

Fanny

But things turned out to be a bit different. While Fanny put herself into activities, she gave up her studies. Her poor grades disappointed her teachers and irritated her parents. After that, her parents made a sudden decision. They wanted to transfer her to another school. Fanny was reluctant after she discovered the real fact. She preferred staying at her current school, but her parents’ decision was formed. There were no other possibilities. The new school was a totally different

35

Fanny

style from the previous one. The target of this school was to assist students into a high-level educational institute. Strict and practical school disciplines such as students are not allowed to wear long hair were enforced. The school was more like a cram school. Good students were considered to have good grades. Everyday there were tests, tests, and more tests. The environment was like a jail. Students were like little trapped birds. Fanny couldn’t help but begin to study even harder. She

36

Fanny

became a bookworm, seeking knowledge like a sponge. Eventually, her grades improved with hard works. A year later, Fanny was ready to graduate from her junior high. It was also the time for her to face the future. There were a variety of options waiting for her. She was interested in music. She wanted to participate in show business. Meanwhile, past events showed up in front of her, Miss Ariel, Mansfield Park, and so on. Fanny decided to enter a music school. A breath of fresh

37

Fanny

air! She felt not only rebirth but came out with a brand new spirit full of energy and passion. “This is it. This is the life I want Fanny murmured while the background music of the graduation ceremony kept proceeding.

Surprisingly, Fanny’s parents completely supported her idea of entering showbiz. Actually, they were very proud of their daughter. So, she discontinued her studies and focused on her new target full-heartedly. Her first TV program, “Welcome to Fanny’s show”, was fresh and new to the audience, because there wasn’t any similar mimic show during

Soon, the show became a hit. Fanny’s debut was certainly successful. She now achieved both wealth and fame at

Fanny Linden became the newest idol in the country.

And this time, she made up her mind to go back to school then finish her studies. The decision came with a good result. She proved to be an
