The Student Support Center (SSC) is a service that provides answers for a wide range of special needs that have a direct or indirect impact on the academic life of students. You can apply for services by arranging an appointment using UACloud app for Student Support.

SSC is aimed at helping all UA students who cannot fully participate in university life due to their personal, social or financial situation. Current SSC programmes are as follows:

DISABILITY AND SNES:

Aimed at students with any type of disability, illness and specific needs for educational support (SNES) interfering in their studies. We help students with the required adjustments during their studies. Here, we assist students to improve accessibility, use of adaptive transport, study support products, mediation with other professionals and participation in volunteering activities. Career guidance for students with disabilities: Job opportunities for students and graduates with disabilities and SNES, where you can design your own employment plan. This plan is based on activities included in the Equal Opportunities Observatory: Organisation and teaching of joint activities, with public and private entities in the province of Alicante, on good practices for disability and SNES under the principles of universal accessibility and equal opportunities for everyone.

SOCIAL AFFAIRS:

Its goal is to provide technical advice on social and/or economic resources (internal or external to the UA) in order to provide comprehensive attention to students in personal or family situations that may affect their studies. Areas of assistance: - Emergency financial aid - Social counselling - UA Homeshare scheme - Volunteering programmes.

PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING;

Aimed at students who wish to improve their academic performance, enhance skills, make decisions and contribute to the achievement of their vocational goals. Areas of assistance: - Psychology and psychopedagogy. - Gifted and talented students - Sex counselling

CURRICULUM ADJUSTMENT:

These are adjustments make access, stay and performance of students with special needs easier for them to acquire all the professional skills and academic content required to work as professionals in their fields of study. The SSC manages the curriculum adjustments for students with disabilities and for those with a recognised SNES condition by means of a medical report or certificate. Resources and Social Welfare University of Alicante Solidarity International Volunteering

Aimed at fostering young people’s individual or group participation in non-profit, unpaid activities in foreign countries. International volunteering is established as a mechanism for the promotion and coordination of solidarity, civic engagement and social responsibility among university students, and also as a tool for students’ further training and education. If you are interested in living a volunteer experience in another country, stop by our office and we will inform you of the options available.

University of Alicante Student Insurance Policies Student Insurance

As well as public health insurance cover, all students are covered by Student Insurance for those less than 28 years of age. Student Insurance covers accidents, turberculosis, surgery, neuropsychiatry, obstetrics and family misfortune, but not general medicine. Mandatory Student Insurance (Spanish Health Care

System) for students under 28 enrolled in official degrees. Lifelong Learning Programme for students enrolled in the UA Lifelong Learning Programme. For students enrolled in foundation courses. For students not included in the scope of application of the compulsory INSS school insurance that is enrolled in curricular external practices.

Medical Care

Ophthalmological care

Provides eye care in emergency situations to members of the university community after evaluation by the Healthcare Unit of the Prevention Service.

University Identification Card (UIC)

It can be used to borrow books from all libraries on campus and access sports facilities. Among the different services offered are: identification for the loan of books in the campus libraries or access to sports facilities. Who’s eligible for the University Card (TIU) new students must follow the instructions given to them by the secretary of the center where they enroll. Tel: 965 909 404 or send an email to tiu@ua.es.

Internal Security Services

The University of Alicante Internal Security Services is in charge of informing, assisting and protecting both the users of the university community and its facilities. Their main goals are: - La información a los usuarios que lo soliciten. Existen puntos - Providing information to users that request it. Fixed and mobile locations. - Providing on-campus control and surveillance to try to prevent theft and criminal conduct. - We are provided with security vehicles with some of our staff constantly patrolling the Campus. - Organising and controlling all the on-campus events that are planned to be held. The security services ensure that the safe capacity level is not exceeded. - Providing attention, assistance and first aid in the event of emergencies or health problems. Lost and Found Office

The Lost and Found Office is run by the company providing security services to the University. Weekly, all items that have been left at the reception offices on campus and not claimed by anybody are removed. Said items are checked in and stored in the office. If you need to find a lost item, ask a member of the security service, who will instruct you to go to the Lost and Found Office. Once you have found the missing item, you must show your identity so your particulars are recorded as the person who is picking up the object. Any useful items remaining in storage over a long period of time will be donated to charities.

Resources and Social Welfare Ecocampus Office for Environmental Management, Vice-President for Campus & Technology

The Ecocampus Office for Environmental Management is the department responsible for promoting participation among members of the University Community (research and teaching staff, administration and service staff, and students) in the formulation of proposals and solutions to protect and take care of the environment, as well as in the development of measures for environmental management and campus environmental quality and sustainable development. The Ecocampus Office carries out the following activities, amongst many others:

g Development of the proposals for action set out in the University of Alicante Agenda 21, with the aim of promoting a sustainable environmental quality standards to minimise the impact of daily activity of our campus (waste, water, air pollution, natural environment, energy efficiency, mobility, awareness raising...) . g Promoting the use of sustainable modes of transport to replace private motorised vehicle through the UA Sustainable Mobility Plan. g Collaboration with the UA Healthy Programme for the development of environmental activities directly related to the promotion of health, such as the coordination of the UA Bike Programme, the transfer of land plots for the “Miguel Hernández” Healthy Gardens for cultivation members of the university community (PAS, PDI and students), or the UA’s healthy routes.

g Waste Management: - Removal of hazardous waste products (chemical and sanitary) which are selectively removed from each of the university laboratories. - Selective collection of paper/cardboard and containers from specific collection points on campus. - Selective collection of alkaline batteries, button cell batteries and printer and toner cartridges in the reception offices. - Management of Electrical and Electronic Equipment Waste generated by the University. - Control over management of construction and demolition waste generated by university building works. - Donations to non-private organisations of goods which are no longer needed on campus. - Selective collection of plastic caps within the “Unveil your Solidarity” campaign, to be transferred for social purposes to applicant entities. - Collaboration with the IDOI Research Network, belonging to the UA, to the separate collection of spent writing materials for social purposes.
