I.T. and Telecomunications Resources UACloud

UACloud is an IT tool designed to support teaching, academic management and administration. It is an internet-based environment designed to be used by academic & research staff, students and administration & service staff. You can access UACloud from any part of the UA website by entering your email address and password. Once you have gone through the pre-registration process and become a UA student, a personal e-mail address and password will be given to you. If you forget or lose your access password, the UA provides you with an automated system for obtaining and renewing passwords (Request a new password).

Through UACloud you can access all these services: - Formalise your enrolment. - Pay some fees. - Check on the progress of grant applications you have made. - Request applications for mobility grants. - Access the services provided by the Sports department. - View the suggested bibliography for a subject. - Ask your lecturers questions, through online tutorials. - View FAQs. - Participate in discussions. - View tests and results. - Obtain teaching materials. - Access the programmes for your work placements in REDUA. - Find out the dates of official exams. - Access your student record. - View adverts. - See your teachers’ Virtual Campus information sheets. - Look up the email addresses of other students from your courses. - Access information relating to course outlines, subjects and class times. - Downloading of certificates over the wireless network. https://cvnet.cpd.ua.es/uacloud/home/Portal

Open access computer rooms

These are located in: - General Library. - Lecture Building I. - Polytechnic School (building 1).

In the General Library and Lecture Building I there are specially trained staff to help you if you have any problems configuring your laptop or using equipment, especially with wifi.

I.T. and Telecomunications Resources UA wireless internet (wifi)

The University of Alicante’s Wireless Network is an extension of UA’s Local Network, allowing Internet access and use of other telematic services without cable internet access. This service is available throughout the entire San Vicente Campus and Alicante Campus for all members of the university community with the aim of providing access to the University of Alicante’s Internet Resources. Communication is made through radio frequency between the mobile device (laptop, mobile, tablet, etc.) and a series of antennas (access points) distributed by the university campus. The mobile device must support a wireless card in order to establish communication with the nearest access point. You can activate this service from the Virtual Campus, from the section Administration office. >> WIFI

If you travel to other Spanish or European universities you can connect to their wireless network using the same acess method thanks to the EDUROAM programme.

E-mail: webmail

The University of Alicante provides all students with an institutional e-mail address (your.username@alu.ua.es). You can access your e-mail through any e-mail manager supporting POP3 or IMAP (e.g. Netscape, Microsoft Outlook, Mail, Thunderbird…).

The University will use e-mail as the preferred method to contact students.

However, if you already have a different e-mail account (Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo, Gmail...) you can redirect the messages sent to your University of Alicante e-mail account to this account. You can find out how to redirect your e-mails to the account of your choice. You can do it in the “Preferences” section.

The university will never ask you to provide personal details in an e-mail (such as passwords, credit card details or bank account details). ni cuentas bancarias).

Webmail is a service that allows you to check your e-mail through a browser. Webmail offers you the following features: - To access the email use the same credentials with which you access UACloud. - It can be accessed from any computer; there is no need to install any e-mail programs. - It has all the facilities you need to manage your e-mail: send, forward, delete, reply, organise into folders... - Your privacy is guaranteed through a secure connection.

When typing your password do not forget that it is case-sensitive.

External services

“UACloudSE” is a platform on “UACloud” allowing users to create institutional accounts to access online services provided by external companies. Currently there are agreements with Google and Microsoft. (usuarioUA@gcloud.ua.es y usuarioUA@mscloud.ua.es ). Under these agreements, UA students may apply for accounts to access Google and Microsoft’s online services. University of Alicante members have additional benefits when using these accounts.

UA blogs

The University provides you with a platform from which to publish your own blog. A blog is a regularly updated website which compiles texts and articles written by one or various authors chronologically, the most recent appearing first, where the author is free to publish only the contents that he or she deems appropriate.

In your personal blog you can publish opinions and views about anything of interest to you (studies, hobbies…). The publication of blogs must abide by the rules set out in the “Conditions of use of UA’s IT and Communication Resources”. Do not leave your blog to others. blogs.ua.es/condiciones-de-uso

Programs recommended by the Computing Service

List of programs available online: browsers, antivirus systems, compressors, graphic tools, etc... If you are on campus you can download the programs from a UA server.

Your advertisements on the website

This is a service which allows you to post advertisements on the University of Alicante website. You must fill in a form to provide us with the advertisement’s details and the category it belongs to (buying, selling, renting, class hour changes, etc.). Anyone can read and search posted avertisements.

Electronic Directory

The Electronic Directory allows you to find the contact details for people and departments at the University of Alicante (telephone number, fax, email, etc.). You may use your Virtual Campus to restrict access to your particulars area. You can access the Directory from the university’s homepage.
