C a s e S t u d y O n e - F re n c h Company with new Dutch owners This company had bought into a Joint Venture seven years previously. They had paid partly towards a factory being built on spare ground and told by their Chinese partner that they had to pay tax. This company were subsequently taken over by a Dutch Company who began to question all this drain on their finances to the Chinese Joint Venture Company. They asked Peter Chang to investigate. It turns out a new factory was never built and the land was Government owned so cannot be built on! Also, Peter discovered that the tax need not be paid as there was no formal agreement lodged with the tax authorities and the money they had paid for 7 years was totally wasted. There was no need to pay any tax in future or send anymore money to their Chinese Joint Venture firm! Peter was able to completely solve all outstanding issues and save the Dutch

PROTECT YOU RSELVES IN CHINA Case Study Two - Swedish Company This company had paid for the design and fabrication of moulds which were now being used by their Chinese Collaborators and not returned after the partnership was dissolved.

The Swedish Company did not have a correct address, phone number or contact details for their JV partners. Peter Chang found out exactly who the company was and where they were. He made a personal visit and saw the General Manager. He took a van and loaded up the moulds and took them away to be delivered to a legitimate JV partner of the Swedish company. This prompt action, by Peter Chang in person, saved the Swedish company having to suffer the first company making and selling their products illegally and also having to pay for another set of moulds. A considerable saving!
