Julian Cowie Architects, Part I Architectural Assistant (September 2015 - May 2016) Julian Cowie Architects is a small practice, working on a range of residential, commercial and civic projects. I worked predominantly at concept design and planning stages, with some involvement in preparing construction drawings. Key tasks included concept design, preparation of planning drawings and documents, and liaising with consultants and planning authorities. CZWG Architects, Part I Architectural Assistant (February - December 2014) CZWG is a prominent London practice working primarily on large scale residential developments in and around London. I worked on a variety of projects from feasibility through to planning.

Academic Work In the first year of my Masters I specialised in International Architecture Regeneration and Development. The course gave me a good understanding of regeneration theory and I developed both my analytical and design research methods. In my second year I designed a Winery in Anaklia, Georgia. Looking at the role architectural acts play in our social political environment, the project compared small scale artisanal wine making with the demands of the global market and its providing landscape. During my time at Oxford Brookes I was head of the graphics team for the Oxford Architecture Society and assisted in co-ordinating the 2017/18 lecture series.

Other Skills and Interests I helped set up and am a committee member running Re-Fabricate, a waste reuse research and design programme supported by RIBA London. This has included running a series of workshops and events and mentoring my team in the development of proposals to increase reuse and recycling within the construction industry. www.re-fabricate.co.uk Upon finishing my masters I came together with a group of 4 recent graduates to design and build a pavilion for Cley 18’ Contemporary Art Fair. Derived from a brief concerned with views and distance we proposed a pair of seating structures on Cley beach that frame views of the sea and the land. I spent one summer working with Phil Lardner in his bespoke carpentry workshop. Here I enjoyed developing my woodworking skills. Before starting my masters I spent a month in Nepal volunteering with All Hands NGO, constructing schools in a rural village. I was involved in varying stages of construction, from concrete pours to brick laying, and became a team leader of the volunteers. Over 3 summers I participated in Project Village, an architecture festival run by Hello Wood. Each year I was part of a group designing and building a timber structure, exploring different aspects of ‘the village’. The festival includes a lecture series, allowing discussion about the future of ‘the village’, for which I was selected to give a talk about my experiences in Nepal. Previously I have participated in a trek in the Himalayas, led walks in the Alps, taught in an NGO run learning camp in India, and completed my gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
