Spring training gets into full swing in February here in Florida, and for families who have a passion for our national pastime, spring training is the ideal time to see your favorite players at their pre-season best – having fun, willing to sign autographs and open to mingling with the fans. At Spring Training, you can watch players like Kevin Kiermaier and Miguel Cabrera take morning batting practice in settings so intimate it feels as if they could just as easily be at your neighborhood ball field.

As any true fan of baseball will tell you, Spring Training is not just about the game, it’s about the experience. Here are some tips to ensure that you and your family have an enjoyable day at the ballpark.

• Bring your glove: Arrive at the park for morning workouts about 10am and you’ll see balls flying out into the parking lot.

• Plan for the weather: Remember to always WEAR SUNSCREEN. Don’t make the mistake that so many sun-seeking Midwesterners do.

• Say cheese!: Spring Training is jam packed with Kodak moments, so have your camera ready.

• Autograph please? Bring a couple new Sharpies and maybe a extra ball or two. The best opportunities are after morning workouts from about 10 to 11 a.m.

• Get good seats: Spring Training ballparks are much smaller than their major league counterparts, so nearly every seat seems close to the field.

• Relax!: The absolute best part about a family spring training trip is the simplicity of it.
