Second Semester Goals At the beginning of the new year, take time to reflect and think about what you want to accomplish this semester. Maybe you have a particular academic goal that you want to achieve, or maybe you want to get off campus by seeing the cherry blossoms or going to a Smithsonian or participating in a march. Whatever your goal, make an effort to have a robust experience because your time as an undergraduate on the Hilltop goes faster than you think!

A team of researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center recently found a protein that could combat Parkinson's disease. In Parkinson's disease, clumps of proteins called Lewy bodies accumulate in the brain's motor control area. Georgetown researchers found that inhibiting the USP13 protein in a mouse eliminates Lewy bodies and stops them from building up again.

Coffee & Bagel Mingle Med-Dent Lobby 9:30 - 10:30 AM

The researchers note that, to their knowledge, this is the first data to show the role of USP13 in neurodegeneration. These findings could lead to findings in other neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. These researchers are hopeful for future understanding and discoveries around this protein.

Gather with other EA students and the Alexis Spivak, Sweeney Scholars Program Coordinator, to chat, eat bagels, and have coffee.
