Yellow Fever Immunization Requirements for entry into Guyana (Georgetown) – Following the recent outbreak of yellow fever in Angola, several countries have imposed the requirements for vaccination against the disease for travel 10 days prior to arrival. Guyana, as a part of the Latin American Region with risk of yellow fever is listed as one of the countries whose residents would be required to be immunized and issued with a
yellow fever certificate prior to travel. With the presence of the vector that transmits yellow fever and an uncertain “salvatic” environment in the hinterlands, it is advisable that persons traveling from countries listed as endemic for yellow fever (mainly in Africa and Asia) should also be in possession of a valid International Certificate of
Vaccination or prophylaxis on arrival in Guyana. The countries listed as endemic are mainly from the African continent and does not include countries in North America, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean. GUYANA DAILY NEWS Guyana has the answer to CARICOM food security President Granger at opening of Parika farm to market roads PAGE 8
Georgetown, Guyana – President David Granger said, today, at the official opening ceremony of two Farm to Market Roads in Parika, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3), that Guyana’s abundance of land and freshwater supplies for agricultural purposes places it an enviable position to take advantage of the increased demand for food globally and in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). He added that Region 3, a ‘power house’ in the agriculture sector, is well poised to make a significant contribution in this regard. The roads, which were officially opened today, are two of four farm to market roads that make up the Access Dams/Roads Rehabilitation Project funded under an agreement between the Government of Guyana and the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF), which was initially signed in July 2013 to the tune of US$9.09M. In November 2015, that agreement, which is the largest one in the region to date, was amended from the original figure to US$11.87M, of which US$3.49M is considered a grant. This was made possible due to Guyana making its agreed contribution of US$3.5 million to the CDF. The roads, which were constructed and upgraded, include the two in Parika; Ruby Paved Road and Parika Paved Road and the Laluni All Weather Road and the Onverwagt Paved Road. These roads are expected to benefit more than 9,500 farmers and enable them to get a larger amount of their production to the markets in a timelier manner and in better condition. President Granger indicated that he has received reports that the Ruby Road has already resulted in a 25 percent increase in acreage of cash crops under cultivation from 2014 to present, whilst in Naamryck-Parika Back, there has been a 50 percent increase in acreage under cash crop cultivated from 2014.This, the President said, emphasises the importance of investments in infrastructural development in the agriculture sector. He added that Government will continue to work in

concert with farmers, residents and the regional and local administration to ensure that development projects in the sector are successful and benefit the Region and the country as a whole. “Without infrastructure, there will be an increased cost for farmers to get your produce to market…so infrastructure is essential and that’s why we know that this road and the other roads that are being built will help you to become richer. Infrastructure such as these roads will facilitate greater access by our farmers to markets. The roads are a means to stimulate the rural non-farm economy, catalyse the development of communities, and facilitate the integration of rural areas into national economies… We will continue to invest in agricultural infrastructure,” he said. The President also announced that Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Noel Holder would be looking into why the The Hubu cassava mill and the Parika Packaging Facility, both planned as innovative investments to help farmers and manufacturers gain a higher price for their produce, were not successful. The Minister, he said, will explore whether a private enterprise model for similar programmes would be more feasible. The President also said that investment, whether through members of the diaspora or from States in the region is required if Guyana is going to be able to take advantage of opportunities in CARICOM and beyond, presented by the need for food security.President Granger said, “Guyana hosted, this past week, the 37th Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community. I have invited regional leaders to invest in Guyana, including investing in Guyana’s vast agricultural potential. The countries of the Caribbean have the capital. We have the land and freshwater. There is no reason why we should not engage in a partnership aimed to increasing agricultural output to help achieve food security in the Caribbean.” Expertise, knowledge and information, the President said, are also key to the development of the sector and declared that Guyana can provide the answers to the region’s large food import bill. International food prices have been declining for the major traded agricultural products and are at the lowest levels since 2009. Yet, the food import bill of CARICOM has been rising and stands, today, at over US$4 Billion annually. CARICOM’s food insecurity must be reversed if the Caribbean is to survive. Guyana’s farmers can contribute to regional food security by increasing agricultural output. Caribbean leaders are looking to Guyana as the new horizon for agricultural development,” he said.Minister Holder, in his remarks, said that when the current Government took office addressing the deplorable and underdeveloped infrastructural facilities, with particular reference to farm to market roads, was placed at the top of the agenda.

Guyana tech company set to unveil the world's newest antivirus software GEORGETOWN, Guyana -- In less than a week, a Guyana-based software development company will be officially launching the world’s newest antivirus software, in addition to a professional PC cleaning tool, and a spyware removal tool. Presumably a first for a Caribbean tech company, the CompuCare antivirus software, along with the CompuCare PC cleaner and the CompuCare spyware removal tool, promises to deliver on PC security and cyber security where even some of the better established brands in the United States and other Western blocs have failed. The three flagship products, which are already available for beta download at www.computercare.online was developed by Computer Care-Guyana, a software development company that is owned by Guyana-born international writer and software security engineer Dennis E. Adonis. Upon download and installation of the antivirus software, users will be able to test drive it freely for a period of 14 days before deciding whether to purchase a one year PC protection licence. A similar option is also available for the PC cleaner and the spyware remover, which allows a limited try before you buy option. The entire range of software, which took about two years of research and development, and a US$250,000 price tag, has already received the relevant publisher verification seal from Microsoft for safe installation on the Windows range of operating systems. It is now being allocated for download via a number of localized digital markets in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, where more than half a million beta testers have already expressed an interest in trying out the new PC cleaner and antivirus product. Country specific editions are also being finalized for several Caribbean countries, including The Bahamas and Curacao, where the company is also launching three customer service outlets in August. Questioned on his strategy to make the product available to the public prior to its official launch date, developer Dennis Adonis said that he wants users to properly scrutinize his company’s software range (before it is released), and take it on a side-by-side virus scan or PC scan with any of the others including McAfee, Avast or AVG. He asserted that, in the end, the top tier performance of his product will speak for itself. However, he agreed that it can take somewhere between one to five years before the
software suite can actually gain adequate global interest, and enough international scrutiny in order to align itself around the other established brands. “International confidence in your product is a long term process, and an unavoidable challenge that I have already geared up my mind for,” he said. Adonis added that his technological vision had always been one that is centered on the building of software applications that can actually hunt down hard to find viruses and spyware on a computer network. Moreover, a software suite that actually offers country-specific protection against hackers and spies. And in his view, the CompuCare software security range is offering PC users just that and more. The software products are scheduled to be launched at the developer’s offices in Guyana on July 14, followed by a corporate launch in The Bahamas and Dubai on August 4 and 10, respectively. While there is much more to be done, I can assure you that our government is resolute in ensuring that the livelihood, of our people is safeguarded, so ensuring a good life for all,” he said. Chief Executive Officer of the CDF, Mr. Rodinald Soomer, who also spoke at the event said that he is happy “to speak at this occasion where there is the delivery of tangible evidence of the gain that CARICOM integration is delivering to a Member State; vitally needed concessionary financial resources for practical projects like these access roads that redound to the

The Agreement Relating to the Operations of the Fund was signed in July 2008 and the CDF began operating on August 24, 2009. The purpose of the CDF is to provide technical and financial assistance to disadvantaged countries, regions and sectors. The mandate is to assist Member States in reducing disparities, promote convergence and compensate for any negative impact and dislocation that may result from the implementation of the CSME,” Mr. Soomer explained. The CEO added that Guyana has already submitted its Country Assistance Programme to the CDF for the current Second Cycle and is the first country to do so. Mr. Soomer called on farmers and residents to continue to take ownership of the roads as a key component of the programme was community participation.
This call was eagerly accepted by Farmers’ Representatives Mr. Hemraj Ragnauth and Mr. Shamir Baksh. Mr. Baksh, who is from Ruby, told the gathering, “I want to say that in the coming years, we the farmers know of our responsibility to care what you have given to us because it has cost millions and millions [has] to be borne in the repayment and tax payers, not only we the farmers but other tax payers will have to face that burden so it is the duty of us the farmers to ensure that we maintain our roads.” The Ruby Farmer also said that while the benefits of the upgraded roads can already be seen but farmers need more support from the Government. “It has caused the land values of these areas to go up. We also need marketing strategies,” he said. Mr. Ragnauth emphasised the value of community involvement in the implementation phase of the project. He said, “Let me say how happy we the farmers are to have roads, which were really a ‘suffering’ for us. When we were given the opportunity to sit as representatives on the board, for the planning aspects for this road, it was really an honour for me. I specifically want to say thanks to the Government of Guyana for giving us this opportunity to have two beautiful roads. I specifically want to emphasise that we the people here are the beneficiaries and we should really, really take precaution to care these roads.” (GINA)

US cuts off funding whether fortheHaiti elections US decision not to fund the upcoming polls had
P
ORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, Friday July 8, 2016 – Add one more headache for officials planning Haiti’s presidential elections. The United States says it’s not putting one more cent into funding the electoral rounds planned for later this year and early next year. But US State Department spokesman John Kirby is insisting that it doesn’t mean the US is no longer supporting Haiti. “Suspension of US electoral financial assistance does not signal a reduction in US support for the people or development of Haiti; rather, we believe it allows us to maintain assistance in other priority areas such as health, economic growth, and infrastructure. This decision enables the United States to retain vital humanitarian and development programs that help ordinary Haitians improve their lives,” he said at a press briefing yesterday The US provided US$330 million in assistance for the 2015 electoral cycle. But Kirby says the government had notified officials in Haiti at the beginning of the month that it has suspended its assistance toward completion of the presidential electoral process. He said it was a decision the government had been considering “for quite some time”. Last month, Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has accepted a recommendation from an independent commission to start presidential elections from scratch, throwing out the results of the first round of voting held last October. The first round of fresh elections will take place this October, with a run-off vote scheduled for January 8, 2017. Kirby was pressed about
anything to do with the fact that it was not pleased that electoral officials had scrapped the previous election results instead of just restaging the runoff vote. He admitted that the administration was concerned about the way the process was unfolding, but dodged the question about whether the funding cut decision was a signal of “a disapproval of the specific policy”. Asked whether he was concerned that undemocratic principles may come into play as a result of the decision, Kirby responded: “These are decisions Haitian leaders have to make. And again, we’ve made clear what our concerns were about the electoral process thus far. We’ve been nothing but candid and forthright about that. But ultimately, these are decisions that they have to make, and we want to continue to urge them to make the right ones.”(Caribbean360)
Possible Zika-related death in Grenada ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Friday July 8, 2016 – Grenada may have recorded its first Zika-related death. Health officials are trying to determine if an individual who was being treated for Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a known side effect of Zika, was actually infected by the mosquito-borne virus. Zika has been strongly linked to the rare neurological condition that occurs when the body’s immune system attacks part of the nervous system. GBS can cause muscle weakness and paralysis. But because the disease can develop outside of contracting Zika, Health Minister Nicolas Steele said tests were being done to confirm whether the virus played any role in the death. The deceased was one of two people being treated for GBS in hospital. Steele said the other patient is improving. The government says it spends EC$23,000 (US$8,518) to treat one person with GBS. Earlier this week, Minister Steele said that with the assistance of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Grenada was able to secure one dose of Immunoglobin, which is used to treat the disease, from the eight available doses in Panama. Up to three days ago, there were nine confirmed and 30 suspected cases of Zika in the island, and the Health Minister said there was need for a
collective effort to mitigate against the effects of the virus. He said expectant mothers would receive counselling as they put systems in place to deal with microcephaly – a defect in which babies are born with abnormally small heads and severe brain damage – which is also linked to Zika.(Caribbean360)

GUYANA DAILY NEWS Dallas shooting suspect Micah Johnson 'acted alone’ PAGE 18
Micah Johnson, the man accused of killing five police officers in a gun attack during a protest rally in Dallas, acted alone, officials believe. "We believe now the city is safe," Mayor Mike Rawlings said. Bomb-making material, rifles and a combat journal were found at the home of Johnson, who was himself killed. The Dallas protest was against the killing of black men by police, and similar rallies drew thousands across many US cities on Friday. The demonstrations followed the police killings of Philando Castile in Minnesota and Alton Sterling in Louisiana. 'Weekend of Rage' Dallas police chief David Brown and US Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also said the gunman appeared to have acted alone, although Texas Governor Greg Abbott said police would "continue down every rabbit trail... ensuring that we eliminate any other possible suspects or co-conspirators".
Micah Johnson Officials on Friday had spoken of a coordinated attack by at least one other sniper. Three other suspects were arrested after the shootings but no details have been released about them. A number of gun attacks involving police officers and civilians have occurred in other parts of the US in the aftermath of the deaths in Minnesota and Louisiana. In Tennessee, a black army veteran killed a woman and also injured three other people, including a police officer, as he opened fire on a motorway on Thursday

morning, before the Dallas attacks. After his arrest, Lakeem Keon Scott told investigators he was troubled by police violence against African-Americans In Missouri on Friday, a police officer was shot from behind after he walked back to his patrol car to check the driving status of a black man who he had stopped. Antonio Taylor, 31, was later arrested but the motive for the shooting is unknown In Georgia on Friday, an officer was shot after he responded to a call from a man who said his car had been broken into. Again the motive is unknown Early on Saturday in Houston, police shot dead a man they said had pointed a gun at officers in a street. Tweets under the #Alvabraziel hashtag said he was black, with some suggesting he was shot 10 times and questioning whether he was armed In the Georgian state capital, Atlanta, on Friday evening, thousands marched in protest at the recent police shootings but although roads were blocked off the demonstration remained peaceful. Protests against police killings were also held in other cities including Houston, New Orleans and San Francisco. In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, protesters chanted "no justice, no peace, no racist police". There have been some arrests at the rallies, but again they were peaceful. Leaders of the Black Lives Matter organisation have condemned the Dallas killings but say planned marches, including a "Weekend of Rage" in Philadelphia, will go ahead. A Black Lives Matter march was also held in London on Friday. In Dallas, Mayor Rawlings addressed thousands at a vigil to honour the police officers, urging Americans to "step up" to heal the nation's racial wounds. 'Wanted to kill whites' Police in Dallas said the bomb-making material was found when they searched the home in the suburb of Mesquite where Micah Johnson lived with his mother. Johnson was killed by remotely detonated explosives that were sent into a car park where he had taken refuge after the shootings. Mr Rawlings said the suspect had been
given a choice of "surrendering without harm or remaining in place", adding that he chose "the latter". Johnson, a member of the US Army Reserve from 2009 to 2015 who had served in Afghanistan, had no criminal history. But it has emerged that he was accused by a female soldier of sexual harassment in Afghanistan and was sent home. A lawyer said Johnson was to be removed from the army in September 2014 but was instead given an honourable discharge in May 2015. Chief Brown said the suspect had told a negotiator that he had wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers, because he was angry about the recent shootings of black men by police. Two civilians were also injured. President Barack Obama, who is attending a Nato summit in Poland, called the Dallas killings a "vicious, calculated and despicable attack on law enforcement". He ordered all flags on public buildings to be flown at half-mast. Mr Obama will visit Dallas early next week, cutting short the Spanish part of his European trip, the White House said. The Dallas attack marks the deadliest day for US law enforcement officers since the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Reacting to the latest shootings, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton said: "There is too much violence, too much hate, too much senseless killing, too many people dead who shouldn't be. No-one has all the answers. We have to find them together." Meanwhile, her Republican opponent Donald Trump said in a video the shooting in Dallas "has shaken the soul of our nation". He added: "The deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castille in Minnesota also make clear how much more work we have to do to make every American feel that their safety is protected." Philando Castile was shot dead after being stopped in his car by police in St Paul, Minnesota , on Wednesday. Alton Sterling was killed by police a day earlier in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Both incidents were captured on video, reigniting what has become a national debate.(BBC)

That US diplomat has now been expelled from Moscow, along with one other embassy worker. The Kremlin accused the men of being CIA agents. Russia's deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said both US embassy staff were expelled for "activities incompatible with their diplomatic status". What the US says State department spokesman John Kirby said the two Russian officials, who have not been named, were told to leave on 17 June. Mr Kirby said that earlier that month, a Russian policeman attacked a US diplomat near the US embassy in Moscow.
"The action was unprovoked and it endangered the safety of our employee," he said. "The Russian claim that the policeman was protecting the embassy from an unidentified individual is simply untrue." Russia said earlier this week that the US official was a CIA agent who had refused to provide his identification papers and hit the policeman in the face. Last month, US officials said harassment against US diplomats by Russian security and intelligence services was on the rise. The Washington Post said last month that included breaking into the homes of embassy staff, rearranging furniture and even killing a family pet. What Russia says Russia has denied the allegation that security staff mistreated the US diplomat. It said the diplomat worked for the CIA and had refused to show ID papers. "Instead of the CIA employee, who was in disguise, as we understand, it could have
been anyone - a terrorist, an extremist, a suicide bomber," Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said. Russian media have also released a video of what they say was the scuffle between the US diplomat and the Russian policeman. In response to seeing its two diplomats ordered to leave Washington, the Kremlin announced its move on Saturday. "After their unfriendly step two employees of the United States embassy had to leave Moscow," Mr Ryabkov said. "They were declared persona non grata for activities incompatible with their diplomatic status." No official response has been made by Russia to the allegations of harassment of US diplomats. A statement to the Washington Post said there had been US provocation against Russian diplomats.(BBC)

South Sudan clashes 'leave dozens dead' in Juba Dozens of people have been killed by clashes in South Sudan's capital Juba, military, medical and journalistic sources have said. Gunfire broke out on Friday evening near the state house where President Salva Kiir was meeting his sometime rival, VicePresident Riek Machar.
Machar's. The two men met at the presidential palace on Friday. 'We want peace - and ice cream' The half-hour gun battle then escalated, with heavy weapons and artillery being used in several parts of the city. On Saturday, a South Sudanese journalist told the BBC that other journalists stuck inside the state house counted at least 100 bodies, inside and outside the compound. A hospital doctor told the Associated Press that scores of bodies had been brought in, while a military spokesman for the opposition - Mr Machar's faction - told Reuters 115 people had been killed. Mr Kiir and Mr Machar described Friday's violence as "unfortunate". Under a peace deal agreed last August, the two armed factions took up positions in Juba in April.
Estimates of the death toll vary, but most accounts put the number over 100 - some as high as 150. A 2015 peace deal to end a 20-month civil war has failed to quell unrest. Juba is in lockdown as South Sudan, the world's newest country, marks the fifth anniversary of independence from neighbouring Sudan. Friday's fighting was apparently sparked by a shootout Tens of thousands died in the civil war between Mr Kiir's bodyguards and Mr
and millions were forced from their homes. South Sudan, the world's youngest nation, is so broke that the authorities say no official anniversary celebrations will be held. The streets of Juba were reported to be fairly quiet on Saturday. Roadblocks have been set up in the capital, with troops searching people for weapons.(BBC)

Tears for good friend Manning A tearful St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves, was one of the first Caricom leaders to pay his respects to former T&T prime minister Patrick Manning, as his body lay in State at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) yesterday. From 10 am yesterday, citizens, led by President Anthony Carmona, said final their farewells to Manning, who died last Saturday at the San Fernando General Hospital after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Gonsalves arrived around 2 pm but no Government Minister was on hand to meet and greet him. Hazel Manning was also not there at the time. He was then escorted to the body, where he remained for more than two minutes paying his respects. The tears emerged within moments of viewing Manning’s body. Gonsalves was the last regional prime minister to visit and speak with Manning before he died at hospital. He visited Manning days before he passed away. During that visit, Gonsalves and Manning were heard laughing loudly as they shared a few moments together. But yesterday he could not hold back the grief as the tears flowed. He had openly described Manning as a friend. After viewing the body, Gonsalves proceeded to sign the condolence book. Gonsalves is expected to speak during Manning’s State funeral at the Holy Trinity Cathedral this morning. University of the West Indies medicine student Ayeshia Spencer, who was among thousands who paid their final respects to Manning, said the University of Trinidad and Tobago should be renamed in his honour as a tribute to him. Establishment of the UTT was the brainchild of Manning. “I think they should give him some honour within the University of Trinidad and Tobago,” Spencer said, adding she benefitted from advice given to her by Manning while he was prime minister. She said he played a critical role in her decision to successfully do her advanced level exams after completing her O’ levels. Spencer, from Laventille, said Manning was a very caring man and she will miss hearing him talk, adding that he had charisma. She admitted to frequently looking at You Tube videos
to hear Manning’s speeches over the years. She said she was not shocked to hear of his passing after he was diagnosed with AML, but insisted that she “did not expect it to happen so quickly.” Spencer said she felt like Manning “was my own dad.” There was still a long line of people waiting to say farewell to Manning, who served as prime minister from 1991 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2010, outside NAPA yesterday afternoon. Former health minister Jerry Narace was among those who did so yesterday afternoon. Employees from the banks, stores and government ministries were among the many who were at NAPA yesterday. But not everyone got a chance to view Manning’s body yesterday. Due to the huge turnout, some members of the public gave up after waiting in line for several hours.(Trinidad Guardian)

Bolt ready to run, invites fans to London for 200m Six-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt has declared himself fit and ready to run, confirming Friday that he will be competing at the London Anniversary Games in two weeks. The 29-year-old world record holder withdrew from the Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships in Kingston with a hamstring injury on Friday, July 1, causing concern for fans and officials alike, about whether he would be able to defend his Olympic 100m and 200 titles at the Olympic Games in Rio this summer. However, having travelled to Europe to receive treatment from Dr Hans Muller-Wolfhart, Bolt is now ready to justify the medical exemption he was granted by the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association (JAAA). “This is Usain Bolt. Just want to tell everybody to come out and watch me at the London Anniversary Games on Friday, July 22. I’ll be there. I am excited to come back to London and I know it’s gonna be great, so fans come out and support,” Bolt said in a video posted on social media. Bolt has been provisionally listed in Jamaica’s team to the Olympic Games and will have to prove his fitness if he is to make the cut and maintain his place on the team to Brazil. (SportsMax)
Wimbledon 2016: Serena Williams beats Angelique Kerber t o w i n 2 2 n d G r a n d S l a m World number one Serena Williams beat German fourth seed Angelique Kerber to win a seventh Wimbledon and 22nd Grand Slam title. The American, 34, coped with a gusty wind on Centre Court to win 7-5 6-3 and equal Steffi Graf's Open era record of major titles. Kerber had beaten Williams in the Australian Open final in January but could not produce another shock. Williams ends a losing run at Slams stretching back to Wimbledon last year. Fourteen years since she first won Wimbledon, Williams claimed the title for a seventh time after dropping just one set all tournament. The world number one banished memories of last year, when she fell two matches short of a historic calendar Grand Slam, and of losing in the Australian and French Open finals this year. “It's been incredibly difficult not to think about it," she said of finally winning number 22. "It makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked hard for it. "This court definitely feels like home, I have a match later today in the doubles, so I'll be back out." Williams moves alongside German great Graf in the all-time list of Grand Slam singles champions, and just two behind overall leader Margaret Court, the Australian who won 13 of her 24 major titles before tennis turned professional in 1968. Williams had tried and failed three times to win her 22nd major title but she finally got over the line with a performance that owed as much to nerve as to skill. Kerber, 28, was the outsider but buoyed by her win over Williams in Melbourne, and the swirling wind added another element of uncertainty to the final. The German's serve was under pressure immediately but after she saw off three break points in the second game, Kerber managed to contain Williams for the most part with her relentless hitting from corner to corner. A pumped-up Williams roared in celebration after one lunging volley, and again
when three serves got her out of trouble at 5-5, and it was Kerber's resistance which broke first. After a carefully managed 12 games the German made only her fourth and fifth errors of the set to fall 15-40 behind, before Williams converted her second set point with a thumping backhand into the corner. Kerber was not about to fold, however, finally earning her first break point of the match at 3-3 in the second set after one hour and 13 minutes - only to watch as Williams hammered a 117mph ace out wide. And moments later an engrossing final came to a sudden end. Kerber mis-hit a backhand to drop serve and Williams then powered through her final service game, punching away a forehand volley on match point and falling back on to the Centre Court turf. Amazon Warriors stay perfect with win over Patriots Guyana Amazon Warriors seized home-field advantage with a packed spin bowling lineup that St Kitts & Nevis Patriots had trouble coping with on a slow pitch as the hosts restricted the visitors to 108 for 8 before a comfortable chase, made to look more difficult by a late flurry of wickets, to secure a fourwicket win with 22 balls to spare. The pitch came under heavy criticism from the television broadcast commentators at Providence Stadium, with a low and slow pitch producing likewise action from the Patriots lineup. The visitors opted to bat first at the toss but three specialist spinners in the Amazon Warriors attack -Steven Jacobs, Adam Zampa and Veerasammy Permaul - exploited the favorable spin conditions superbly, none more so than offspinner Jacobs, who took the new ball and finished with figures of 1 for 7 in four overs. Arriving in Guyana after a pair of blistering half-centuries in far friendlier batting conditions at Warner Park in St Kitts, Evin Lewis laboured through an 18-ball innings before a desperate shuffle across his stumps to flick Jacobs resulted in Lewis being trapped
Adam Zampa and Martin Guptill had solid days with bat and ball respectively for Guyana Guyana Amazon Warriors 109 for 6 (Guptill 43, Lynn 34, Badree 2-18) beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots 108 for 8 (Simmons 50, Zampa 3-18) by four wickets
in front for 4 in the fourth over. Lewis' opening partner Lendl Simmons exemplified the Patriots' overall struggle with conditions, lasting until the final over to make 50 off 60 balls before he was runout by Martin Guptill. In between, Zampa wiped out the middle order, including the key scalp of captain Faf du Plessis for just 1. Guptill was the only batsmen on the day to look unencumbered by the nature of the wicket, scoring at nearly two runs a ball as he three fours and four sixes on his way to finishing with 43 off 22 balls and Man of the Match honours. Following the secondover departure of Dwayne Smith, Guptill and Chris Lynn produced a 60-run second wicket stand across six overs before Guptill perished to left-arm wristspinner Tabraiz Shamsi after an attempted drive went awry. Guyana reached the halfway stage needing just 24 runs to win with eight wickets in hand before a brief stumble was sparked by a legside stumping to remove Jason Mohammed off the bowling of Samuel Badree. It was the first of three wickets in the space of nine deliveries for just three runs as Badree had Christopher Barnwell for a second-ball duck before Shamsi struck again to claim Anthony Bramble for 1. Lynn held firm though and remained until Guyana were within one shot of clinching the match when he was bowled for 34 by JJ Smuts. Jacobs and Sohail Tanvir calmly knocked off the final six runs for victory with 3.4 overs to spare. While the Amazon Warriors cemented their hold on the top of the table, the Patriots woeful start goes on having now lost four of their first five games. (ESPNCricInfo)
