Paul, youngest of 5 children with 4 older sisters, grew up in Philadelphia to John Francis and Madeline Geisz. His storied career began in service to his country, first serving with honor in both the Navy and the Air Force. During his military tenure, he exemplified bravery and commitment, shaping his character, and laying the foundation for a lifetime of honorable pursuits.

Following his military service, Paul transitioned seamlessly into law enforcement, where he continued his commitment to public service. He loved working in Juvenile Aid, was promoted to Detective Front Westmoreland, Sergeant 9th District 21st Pennsylvania Ave, Lieutenant North Central Detective, Accident Investigation, and taught at the Philadelphia Police Academy until he retired in 1984. His integrity, compassion, and sense of duty earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. He was Treasurer of the Steuben County Chiefs of Police and active with the Lions Club.

Driven by his love for hospitality, Paul ventured into the restaurant and lodging industry, becoming a successful restaurateur with the Village Tavern Restaurant & Inn in Hammondsport, NY. He was honored by the NYS Wine & Grape Foundation as Restaurant of the Year and for helping develop the Finger Lakes wine industry into the success it has become today. His establishment not only served delicious cuisine and the best wines but was also a great family restaurant that became world renowned.

Throughout his life, Paul pursued his passion for education, becoming a respected professor. He taught at Temple University, St. Joseph’s College, Spring Garden University, Northwestern University, Alfred State, Alfred University, and Pennsylvania College of Technology. His enthusiasm for learning and dedication to his students left an indelible mark on generations of learners, inspiring them to pursue their dreams and excel in their chosen paths. He was a proud Honorary Member Theta Theta Chi Sorority at Alfred University. He was recognized as Honorary Police Captain and was awarded a Key to the city of New Orleans. Paul was also a published poet. Beyond his professional achievements, Paul was a devoted husband to Maryann Geisz, a loving father to Paul John and Suzanne. His family was his greatest joy, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and support that will forever be treasured. He loved travel, dancing, birds, bird houses and zipping around in his little red sports car. He was an International Wine Judge. At 83 years old, he met the love of his life, Karene Mauer. What a dynamic duo they were together!

His final meal was boutique oysters on the half shell with an Aperol Spritz followed by a fantastic glass of Albarino. His favorite phrase was “Every day is a great day!” and he lived it right up to the end. “Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear.”

A Memorial Mass of Remembrance honoring Paul Geisz’s life will be held at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, 18th and the Parkway in Philadelphia on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 9:30 AM.
