Botanical gardens: Botanical gardens are beautiful and relaxing places to spend a day. The Botanic Gardens Conservation International reports that there are between 296 to 1,014 botanical gardens and arboretums in the United States, while there are roughly 70 botanic gardens across Canada. People can tour topiaries, exotic plants, butterfly retreats, acres of rolling landscape, and even bonsai collections.

According to WorldAtlas.com, the largest city park in the world is Bosque de la Primavera in Guadalajara, Mexico. At 74,132 acres, Bosque de la Primavera is more than 14,000 acres larger than the world’s second largest city park, Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. Bosque de la Primavera features the Rio Caliente, a geothermal river, and is home to a massive nature reserve inhabited by wild animals. The largest city park in the United States and fifth largest such park in the world is the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale, Arizona. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve includes 180 miles of hiking trails within its 27,800 acres. And while it might be one of the most recognizable city parks in the world, New York City’s Central Park is not counted among the world’s 20 largest city parks, despite estimates that it draws more than 40 million visitors each year. However, it is one of the most visited places in the United States.

(Family Features) Here are three things you can do to help protect your mobile devices and your identity: Password protect your device. A recent study by Javelin Strategy and Research found that even though many smartphones are being used to handle sensitive financial information, only 33 percent of smartphone owners password-protect their devices. If your phone falls into the wrong hands, you could make it very easy for someone to access your personal information and steal your identity.
Review your social network privacy settings. It’s not just advertisers taking advantage of the personal information you include on your social network sites. As the use of social networking continues to increase, it’s expected that the use of malware will rise, too. Cybercriminals are always looking for ways to steal information and money. So you need to review your privacy settings frequently, be careful of what apps you install, and never “friend” someone you don’t know.
Consider getting extra protection. There are a growing number of tools available to help you monitor and protect your identity as well as restore your name and credit, should your identity get stolen. For example, Mobile Rhino is a specialty insurance program that not only insures your device, but also offers an Identity Monitoring Service that alerts you of any changes that could indicate someone else is using your information.
Portable vs. Standby Generators
Prepare your home for a power outage (Family Features) Understanding the distinction between these options will help any family determine which is the better choice for their home.
• A portable generator is an immediate, but temporary, solution. A portable gas generator is less expensive than a standby unit and doesn’t require installation time. Its benefits have limits, as it can only power a few home appliances for a few hours before needing refueling.
PREVENT DIY INJURIES
Thousands of people try their hands at do-it-yourself home improvement projects every year. Whether working indoors or outdoors, wearing safety gear and exercising caution is a necessity when undertaking any home remodeling project.
According to the Home Safety Council, one in five consumers will need medical attention this year as a result of home improvement projects. A 2013 survey by 3M TEKK Protection and the National Safety Council found that more than one-quarter of DIY home improvement projects ended with injuries to homeowners or someone else in the household. Falls from ladders, cuts from power tools and injuries from thrown debris account for many emergency room visits. Accidents involving chemicals and cleaning agents also can occur. Safety should be the utmost priority when renovating, and that means utilizing appropriate safety equipment.
• A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch provides a seamless and permanent backup power solution. It is professionally installed outside the home and can power more of your home’s appliances for long periods of time. Powered by natural gas or liquid propane, recent power management technology has allowed homes to still receive whole-house backup electricity, but with a smaller, more affordable generator than in years past. With an emergency kit on hand and the right backup power source available, the frustration of weathering a storm can be greatly lessened.

My plum tree that I planted about five years ago, after having one good season of bearing plums, has been overtaken with canker. About 70% of the branches have no leaves. Is there any treatment for canker in fruit trees? Can the tree be saved or is it too late?
While it’s difficult to determine the exact cause of the canker without a thorough examination, there are some potential treatment options you could consider:
1. Pruning: Pruning affected branches is often recommended to remove the infected areas and improve air circulation. Be sure to sterilize your pruning tools before and after each cut to prevent spreading the disease further.
2. Fungicides: Depending on the severity of the canker, applying a fungicide specifically designed for fruit trees may help control the disease. However, it’s important to carefully follow the instructions on the product and consult with a local horticulturist or extension service for guidance.
3. Proper care: Ensuring that your plum tree receives proper care, such as regular watering, adequate nutrition, and maintaining overall tree health, can help it recover from canker and prevent future infections.
It’s important to note that the effectiveness of treatment may vary depending on the severity of the canker and the overall health of the tree. In some cases, if the canker has spread extensively and affected a significant portion of the tree,it may be too late to save it.Consulting with a professional arborist or horticulturist who can assess the situation in person would be the best course of action to determine the chances of saving the tree.

STAY SAFE WHEN LANDSCAPING
Homeowners should not assume they know how to use all of the tools necessary to maintain lush lawns and bountiful gardens. Familiarize yourself with the proper operation of manual and motorized equipment by reading the owner’s manual thoroughly, making special note of recommended safety guidelines.
Take some time to locate the power buttons and other parts by comparing them to illustrations in the guide. Once you feel comfortable handling the equipment, then you can begin to use it.
Sawyer's Landscaping
Summer heat can be harmful in various ways. People and pets can quickly succumb to the summer sun, which can cause sunburn, heat exhaustion and heat stroke when people and their animals spend too much time outdoors without adequate protection.
Landscapes are also vulnerable to summer heat, which can quickly spoil the most lush lawns and robust gardens. Effective watering can help lawns and gardens withstand summer heat, but improper watering can deprive landscapes of the water they need to survive.

HOW TO CONSERVE ENERGY THROUGHOUT SUMMER
Stop cooling an empty home. A cool home might be the ultimate necessity during summer heat waves, but there’s no reason to cool a residence when no one is home. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, operating thermostats more efficiently can help homeowners trim their cooling costs by as much as 10 percent. One way to be more efficient with thermostats is to keep the house warmer than normal when no one is home. Programmable thermostats can be set so air conditioning units turn on shortly before residents arrive home, ensuring the house is comfortable and no energy is wasted.
Clean the house. A dirty home that is full of clutter will not make the best impression on appraisers. Dirty homes may be vulnerable to insect infestations that can lead to structural problems with the home. While a dirty home is not necessarily an indicator of infestations or a reflection of a home’s value, a clean home will create a stronger first impression with the appraiser.
HOW TO BUILD YOUR HOME BAR
Establish a bar setup
Home bars can range from rolling carts to built-in wet bars to a single tray of items. Space in a home will dictate the kind of bar homeowners can have. Rolling bar carts are popular and versatile, and they can be kept stationary or rolled in and out of a room as needed. If a bar cart is open, organization is key, as you don’t want it to look unkempt.
A full-blown wet bar will require more construction, including plumbing and electricity if you need outlets for plugging in appliances. Wet bars are ideal in dens, renovated garages and finished basements.

Many homes do not have space for guest rooms, kids’ play areas and home theater lounges that are possible in homes with substantial square footage. But they may not be missing out at all. While large homes remain popular, many people are embracing the benefits of smaller residences. Small homes help owners save money, require less maintenance, have smaller environmental impact, and reduce the temptation to accumulate “stuff.”
Owners of small homes or apartments can still enjoy the benefits of larger spaces, they just need to equip rooms to perform double duty.

SAVE ENERGY AND MONEY
(NAPSI)—Don’t let window replacement become a “pane” in your wallet. There’s a disconnect between saving money on energy with window replacements, according to government agencies. In fact, they found, it may take decades to recoup the cash spent on the installation of new, energy-efficient windows.
The Problem
The assessed value of adding 20 new energy-efficient windows in California, for example, may range from $10,220 to $18,580 based on a 2019 building assessors manual listing $511 to $929 for each window. Annual energy savings for the replacement of existing windows in a home are from $27 to $111 for dual-pane windows and $126 to $465 for single-pane windows, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. This means it may take decades to financially justify window replacements based on energy savings alone.
An Answer
Fortunately, there’s an alternative. Window films offer advanced energy savings and other benefits and can be quickly installed at a fraction of the cost of replacement windows, often with a return on investment in under three years.
“Window films professionally installed on structurally soundsingle or double-pane windows may reduce energy consumption by as much as 30 percent, while the installation cost may be 91.5 percent less than putting in new windows,”explainedDarrellSmith of the nonprofit International Window Film Association.

STAY SAFE IN BRIGHT DRIVING CONDITIONS
Weather often contributes to motor vehicle accidents. Snow, rain and other factors that compromise drivers’ vision can make driving hazardous, but there’s a dark side to sunny skies as well.
Glare from the sun can compromise drivers’ vision and lead to driving mishaps, regardless of drivers’ experience or skill level. The sun can pack a powerful punch any time during the day, but can be especially hazardous in the early morning sunrise and late-afternoon sunset.
A 2017 study published in the journal Medicine titled, “Life-threatening motor vehicle crashes in bright sunlight” looked at the risks posed by bright sunlight. Researchers found that the risk of a life-threatening crash was 16 percent higher during bright sunlight than during normal weather. Researchers concluded that bright sunlight may create visual illusions that lead to driver error, including poor distance judgement. Plentifulsunlightisoftenahallmarkofspringandsummer,butsun-blindness is a real concern for drivers. As anyone who has turned into blazing sun only to discover their windshield has been rendered opaque by sun glare can attest, driving on sunny days can be challenging. Unfortunately, the sun might create substantial glare during rush hour, making driving during these times more dangerous and accidents more likely.
CRANE’S AUTOMOTIVE
While drivers are protecting their cars, they should also protect themselves, passengers and pets. Never leave a person or animal unattended in a hot car, even for a short time.
CONSERVE FUEL DURING YOUR DAILY COMMUTE
Commuting is a part of daily life for many working professionals. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2011 American Community Survey, the average American spends 25 minutes commuting to work each day. However, Citi’s 2015 ThankYou Premier Commuter Index says the average commute time in the United States is 45 minutes. The reasons for that disparity are unknown, though if one accepts the latter statistic as more accurate than the yearsold Census Bureau data, it’s fair to say Americans spend far more time getting to work than their neighbors to the north. But commutes in Canada also can be lengthy, as Canada’s National Household Survey found that, in 2011, commuters in Canada spent an average of roughly 25 minutes traveling to work each day. While many people enjoy their daily commutes, feeling it’s a time to prepare for the day ahead and, if using public transportation, to relax and let someone else do the work, it’s fair to say the majority of commuters would like to spend less time getting to and from work. Many would also like to spend less money getting to and from their offices, and finding ways to conserve fuel is an effective way to do just that.

DID YOU KNOW? According to the U.S. Department of Labor and data from the U.S. Census Bureau, registered nurse is the most common occupation for women in the United States labor force. Slightly less than 2.1 million women worked as registered nurses in 2017, the most recent year for which statistics are available. Such figures are harder to come by in regard to Canada, but Statista reports that the labor participation rate among women in Canada in 2018 was right around 64 percent. That rate marks a slight decrease from its 21st century peak in 2005, when 66.7 percent of women were active members of the Canadian workforce. In the United States, more than two million women worked as secretaries or administrative assistants in 2017, making these professions the second most common occupation among female workers. Elementary and middle school teachers was the third most common occupation for female professionals, employing more than 1.9 million women in 2017. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau also indicates that women have the lion’s share of jobs in an assortment of professions, including preschool and kindergarten teachers, secretaries and administrative assistants, childcare workers, and dental assistants. Women hold at least 92 percent of the jobs in each of those professions in the United States.

POINTERS ON MOVING TO A NEW HOME BY RENTAL TRUCK
(NAPSI)—Moving yourself to a new home by renting a truck can be easier than you may realize, if you heed these five facts and tips.
• Know when to go. When planning your trip, take into account the time of day you intend to travel and likely traffic patterns. Always leave lots of extra time and be aware of possible bottlenecks along the way.
• Be up on your truck. Make sure you can find and understand all the truck’s switches and gauges. Adjust the seat and side mirrors so they match your height and comfort zone. Also, remember, trucks are taller, wider and may weigh up to 10 times more than the average car, so you have to be extra vigilant.
All advertisers that purchase a half page or larger receive an advertorial of the same size FREE!
Proof Deadline: Friday, July 19th
Final Deadline: Friday, August 2nd
• Understand the agreement. Most truck rental agreements say something like the language from the U.S. Department of Transportation that prohibits the “carrying or hauling of explosives and other dangerous articles.” That means you can’t pack paint, chemicals and cleaning materials, flammable solvents, propane, gasoline and the like. Check with your rental agent if you’re not sure about a particular item.
• Know the “No-Zone.” Trucks have big blind spots, what the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration calls the “No-Zone.” You should know where these areas are, explain the experts on truck rental at Penske, especially when changing lanes or coming to a stop.
• Look into insurance. Most insurance and credit card companies won’t cover truck rentals under existing policies. If your insurance company is among them, consider signing up for additional coverage to protect yourself and your belongings. You may feel more confident knowing there is a company that offers free 24/7 emergency roadside assistance.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER BEFORE INVESTING IN REAL ESTATE
Rental potential and the local labor force: Location is a significant factor to consider when investing in real estate, but recent shifts in how and where people work could change the real estate investment landscape. A 2020 Gartner, Inc., survey of more than 300 financial executives and leaders in the finance industry found that roughly 25 percent will move at least one out of every five of their on-site workers to permanently remote positions in the years ahead. Economists note that this shift to remote working could be among the more lasting trends to emerge from the pandemic. Before investing in real estate, prospective investors should examine local trends to see if more and more locals are working remotely, and whether or not that’s affecting the market for rentals.

Bisphosphonates Cause Esophageal Disorders To Worsen
DEAR DR. ROACH: I’m a 68-year-old female with osteopenia. My doctor wants me to take a bone medication such as Boniva or Fosamax. I’ve read that folks with esophageal issues may be harmed by taking these. Can you explain why? -- C.M.C.
ANSWER: First off, we don’t usually treat isolated low bone mass (osteopenia) with powerful medicines like the ones you mentioned, which are both bisphosphonates. These medicines have the potential for harm and should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
A person with low bone mass and a history of a fragility fracture has osteoporosis, regardless of their bone density. Some people with low bone density may be at such a high risk for fracture (based on their FRAX score) that treatment is indicated. Before treating someone with medication, many authorities recommend a 10year risk of a fracture of 20% or higher (or a risk of a hip fracture of 3% or higher). You should find out your FRAX score.
The issue with the esophagus is that if pills get stuck in the esophagus, they can cause severe damage to it. So, people with esophageal disorders -- such as achalasia, esophageal stricture or varices, or Barrett’s esophagus -- should not take these types of medicines by mouth. People with reflux without these complications can take oral bisphosphonates as long as they can comply with staying upright for 30 minutes after taking them.

(NAPSI) — No matter your stage of life, it’s always a good idea to have a long-range care plan in place.A good way to begin is to talk candidly with your family and friends. HEALTH BENEFITS OF VEGETARIAN DIETS
Many people change their lifestyles in an effort to improve their overall health. Changing the foods one eats is one of the more common ways people try to get healthy, and many people find adopting a vegetarian diet helps them realize their goals.
Adopting a vegetarian diet can be a great way to improve personal health. Vegetarians may now find it easier to maintain their lifestyles than ever before thanks to the year-round availability of a variety of fresh produce and more vegetarian dining options offered at restaurants. Even premade vegetarian foods are more widely available at markets and grocery stores.
Approximately six to eight million adults in the United States eat no meat, fish or poultry, according to a Harris Interactive poll commissioned by the Vegetarian Resource Group, a nonprofit organization that disseminates information about vegetarianism. Many more avoid red meat while still eating fish and poultry.
Although studies into vegetarianism long pointed out the potential nutritional deficiencies of such a diet, the tides have shifted, and many nutrition experts now note how eating plant-based foods offers sufficient nutrition and can reduce the risk for chronic illnesses. A vegetarian diet may offer protection against cardiovascular disease, some cancers, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Data published in the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society found vegetarian diets are high in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, essential vitamins and minerals; offer an abundance of antioxidants; and are very low in saturated fat. However, switching to a vegetarian diet is not enough to lose weight or get healthier. Choosing the right type of vegetarian foods - including whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and proteinrich legumes - and controlling portions is key.
Vegetarians may have low cholesterol, as well as fewer incidences of stroke and obesity and cardiovascular incidents than non-vegetarians. Whether this is entirely food-based, or because vegetarians tend to also embrace other healthy habits, has not yet been determined.

• Durable healthcare power of attorney: This document authorizes a person to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so.
• Advance-care directive: This document specifies how you receive care in the event you are unable to make those decisions on your own.

Documents and requirements may differ by state. Please consult a legal or financial advisor to ensure use of the correct forms.
Make the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP) part of your plan
As you make plans for the future, consider the potential need for long-term care and the effect it could have on you and your family.
Long-term care is the ongoing aid you need if you can no longer perform everyday tasks by yourself due to chronic illness, injury, disability, or the aging process. This type of care is expensive but there’s a way to get help paying for it.
Applying for long-term care insurance coverage under the FLTCIP may be a smart choice for you. The FLTCIP is designed to reimburse for qualified long-term care services and can help lessen or eliminate your reliance on a loved one to provide hands-on care.
The FLTCIP offers you a choice of caregivers. Informal care provided by friends and family members is covered, as long as the caregiver isn’t your spouse or domestic partner and doesn’t live in your home at the time you become eligible for benefits. (Benefits for care provided by family members is limited to 500 days.)
Care provided in an assisted-living facility, an adult daycare, or a nursing home is also covered. If home care is your preference, the stay-at-home benefit includes a range of services that support care in your home, helping you maintain your quality of life in familiar surroundings.
Taking the next step
The FLTCIP is sponsored by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, insured by John Hancock Life & Health Insurance Company, and administered by Long Term Care Partners, LLC. To learn more about the comprehensive benefits and features, call 1-800-LTC-FEDS (1-800-582-3337) TTY 1-800-843-3557 or visit LTCFEDS.com.

HOW TO KEEP GRILLED FOODS WARM
Keep a low-heat zone on the grill. As foods finish cooking, move them to a predetermined low-heat zone on the grill where they will stay warm without overcooking. Monitor this area while cooking the foods to ensure it’s warm but not hot enough to keep cooking foods once they have been moved.

INVITATIONS

4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon extra-virgin oil
1 cup dry rolled oats
2 large eggs
1 pound lean ground turkey (or beef or bison)
13/4 cups pasta sauce, divided
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Italian herb seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 375 F. Coat a 9 x 13-inch baking pan or 6 mini loaf pans with spray. Pulse mushrooms in a food processor until finely chopped and add them to a large bowl. Repeat with onion and garlic.
Place a large frying pan over medium heat and add oil. When oil is shimmering, add vegetables and sauté for 7 minutes or until water releases and evaporates completely, lowering the heat as necessary. Set aside.
Process the oats until they are of a fine consistency. Whisk the eggs in the bowl used for the vegetables. Add processed oats, turkey, 3/4 cup of pasta sauce, cooked vegetables, vinegar, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper and stir together with a fork until blended.
Scoop the mixture into 6 mounds on the pan or into each mini-loaf pan, about 3/4 cup each. Shape each mound into a 4 x 2-inch loaf. Spread remaining 1 cup of pasta sauce on top of the loaves, distributing evenly. Bake on middle rack for 25 minutes, turning pan midway through cooking, until loaves are firm or a thermometer inserted in the middle reads at least 165 F. Allow loaves to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Recipe Notes: You can finely chop vegetables with a knife rather than using a food processor if you prefer. Whole oats can be added to the meat mixture for a more rustic texture.
Climate change impacts can be reduced when the oceans are healthy. Temperature and weather patterns are controlled by ocean currents, which transport heat around the world. They also absorb more than 90% of the heat and 30% of the co2 emissions that are released into the atmosphere by human activity.

How often are lost pets found and returned?
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT GREYHOUNDS
Greyhounds are very fast. Some retired racing greyhounds can hit speeds as high as 45 miles per hour. While they only achieve such speeds for very short periods of time, that’s still pretty fast.

Prevent your pet from becoming a statistic
DEAR PAW’S CORNER: My dog “Shakes” is a “bolter” -- he will bolt out the door and straight into the street if I’m not careful. I worry constantly about him getting lost in the woods nearby. If that happens, what should I do? I feel that lost pets don’t get found very o en. -- Jamie B. in Egypt, Maine
DEAR JAIME: Most dogs who get lost are found and returned to their owners at fairly high rates -- between 81% and 97%, according to a 2012 report. at doesn’t make it any less stressful to their owners, who must scour the neighborhood and put up signs to find their dogs.
e statistics for cats are much worse, with only 45% to 72% being returned to their owners. A bunch of things make it harder to find a lost cat: no ID tag, if the cat’s collar breaks away on an obstacle or no microchip. Cat owners wait much longer than dog owners to report their cat missing -- probably because they feel most cats will come home on their own. ose stats aside, Shakes would benefit greatly from being trained not to react when the front door opens. Each day, do about 15 minutes of training with him:
-- Put Shakes on a leash and lead him toward the front door. Command “sit.”
-- Reach out for the front doorknob. If Shakes starts forward, bring your hand back to your side and command “sit” again.
-- Repeat the doorknob reach until he no longer reacts but remains sitting. When he does this, give him a tiny treat.
-- Progress to turning the knob, opening the door and leaving the door open. Shakes should remain sitting for each level to be successful.
Keep the training fun, and be consistent. It’ll help Shakes stay safe inside and improve your peace of mind.Send your tips, comments or questions to ask@pawscorner.com.

PET OBESITY IS A GROWING PROBLEM
Vets advise that dog owners should be able to easily feel and count dogs’ ribs when they run their fingers across the side of the animal. Pets viewed from above should display an hourglass figure that includes an indentation near the midsection. The absence of this “waist” may indicate a problem. When observing a pet from the side while he or she is standing, a slight upward slope of the stomach should be visible. A low-hanging abdomen means abdominal fat may be present.

Naples Red Mill Past-Present-Future
BY NAPLES HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Naples Red Mill is a time capsule of 19th Century upstate New York. Built in 1815, the Mill was vital to Naples at the beginning of the mechanized new world, as people harnessed the power of nature to produce the goods needed to sustain life.
e Mill used water from Grimes Glen to transform grain into flour. It became so important in its day that it redefined the location of the Naples Village. It drew settlers from neighboring towns, and it became a meeting place where the news of the day was discussed as folks gathered on its wraparound porches.
Simeon Lyon built the Mill in 1815. irty-five years later, Lyon’s son S.C. Lyon and partners, Watkins, and Story, renovated the Mill using the original structure and foundations.
rough the 1800s, ownership changed several times, and new improvements were made. Steam power was added in 1870, followed by a new waterwheel in 1872, and a general overhaul began in 1881. In 1889, N.W. Clark purchased the Mill and installed a grain roller. B.L. Clark changed the water wheeltoaturbinein1905.
Electricitywassubstituted for waterpower in 1911, and water was forever shut off from the Naples mill race in 1920.
A er its purpose as a functioning mill ended, the building was purchased by Widmer’s Wine Cellars in 1930 and used for storage. In 1965, the winery donated the mill to the Village of Naples, who used it to house outdated highway equipment. According to the Historical Society, “while commerce boomed elsewhere throughout the Naples Valley, the impressive Mill structure, with its locallyhewn wood planks and fieldstone foundation, remained a picturesque reminder of local history and traditions.”
In 1975, Vierhile bought the Red Mill from the town for $2,200, with dreams to convert it into a museum for historical education and made many upgrades and repairs. Filling the building with his own collections, he celebrated the “Grand Opening of Naples Red Mill Museum” in 1980, and occasionally opened the building to the public until 2005. In 2015, Bill generously donated the Naples Red Mill and its contents to the Naples Historical Society in hopes that the organization would continue his vision.
Currently, theRedMillservesasstorageforavastcollection of artifacts and antiques that date back to the early 1800s. Many items define the era of early Naples’ work history and the settlement of early Western New York, such as tools, local signs from the 1800s, carriages, and agricultural implements. Items from the 1900s include memorabilia from the Naples movie theater, built in 1920, which due to an accidental fire, was destroyed in 1961. In short, the Red Mill contains the memories and treasures of the community from its earliest days.
e historical society hopes to restore the mill and create a Naples History and Event Center for all to enjoy. e Society says, “Clearly, Bill did his part to preserve Naples history. Now it’s our turn to step up and take care of this historic village treasure for future generations.” For more information on this project see “Bill’s Dream” on the NHS website www.NaplesNYHistoricalSociety.org.
In the 1970s, Bill Vierhile, Naples Town Historian, was also owner of Vierhile’s Appliance Store on Main St. A collector of historical documents and artifacts, Vierhile once said, “I collect everything.” An active member of Naples Rotary, Curator of Cemeteries for Naples, Vice President of the Ontario County Genealogical Society, member of the Board of the Ontario County Historical Society, and for a short time Village Mayor, Vierhile was also instrumental in launching the first Naples Grape Festival with his brother, Bob, in 1961.

CAN IMPROVE THEIR RÉSUMÉS
Rather than emphasize what you did, highlight what you plan to do. This means giving greater weight to the expertise that will translate into your new position. Chances are you can find skills that you honed in one or more jobs that translate into credentials that can be used on another. All of the skills mentioned should be relevant to your career objective and not just added to pad the résumé. Therefore, unless your brief stint waiting tables exemplifies how you developed customer service skills, eliminate it.
