Lucchini UK Ltd is a European Leader in the manufacture of railway wheels and the provision of train gearbox overhauls and maintenance, situated on a 25,826m2 site within Trafford Park in Manchester and employing 165 personnel.

Groundwork MSSTT Environmental consultant worked with Lucchini UK Ltd to achieve a successful Environmental Management System which can help businesses cut costs through the efficient use of resources, demonstrate a commitment to environmental responsibilities, support sustainability and manage carbon footprint.

The company wanted to demonstrate the alignment of its values and behaviour with the expectations and needs of its stakeholders. It was the right time for Lucchini UK Ltd to embed environmental, ethical and social principles into its management practices for the manufacture of its products and the delivery of its services.

THE PROCESS  Implementation of an Environmental Management System to the ISO 14001: 2004 specification Within a six month time-frame of consultancy support from Groundwork MSSTT  Managing Environmental Risk The EMS enables the company to manage environmental risks thereby limiting the liabilities and potential damage to reputation that may acrue  Analysis of waste disposal process To establish a framework that meets objectives and targets using specifically developed environmental improvement programmes for the aspects of the business that have an environmental impact. Particular focus and emphasis was placed upon aspects that are related to solvent and packaging use and hazardous waste storage and disposal THE RESULTS Lucchini UK Ltd achieved an established EMS certification to ISO 14001:2004 status in April 2011 by RIQC a third party UKAS accredited assessment company, exactly six months after embarking on the project FUTURE PROSPECTS Lucchini UK Ltd is now strengthening its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) position by using Groundwork MSSTT consultancy support to develop and implement an occupational health and safety management system that meets internationally recognised OHSAS 18001:2007 certification requirements.
