Prince’s Trust Team Programme Davina’s story Before the Prince’s Trust Course Davina attended Manchester College where she was forced to take leave due to ill health and therefore lost momentum and focus. Davina signed up to the Prince’s Trust Team Programme after having found out about it from friends and realised this could reignite the spark that had been previously been lost.

Groundwork Prince’s Trust Team Programme is an exciting twelve week team building course, aimed at young people aged between 16 -25yrs, who are not in education, employment or training. An opportunity to develop confidence, new skills and gain a Prince’s Trust qualification in employment, team work and community skills.

GROUNDWORK CASE STUDY DAVINA’S EXPERIENCE During the first week of the course Davina engaged with other members of the team forming new friendships that would prove invaluable during the residential at Tanrallt Mountain Centre in Snowdon. On residential Davina’s problem solving skills proved useful keeping the team focused during the team building activities One of the areas Davina wanted to improve was her confidence and communication skills and the Community Project gave her the perfect opportunity. The team found a dance studio in Levenshulme that needed a makeover and Davina took on the responsibility for all the publicity for the project, this included contacting the local newspaper and giving a presentation to guests at the grand opening In week nine the team have the chance to put all their new found skills into practice during a two week work placement. Davina secured a placement at the Southways Housing Association. During her time with Southways Davina had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles enabling her to see all aspects of the company. Her placement was such a success that the company have asked Davina to apply for an apprenticeship In weeks ten and eleven the team looked at the next steps to employment. Due to the positive experience with Southway Davina decided this was the area of employment for her. Davina also applied to another Housing Association in the area and was again invited for an interview. The interviews were a roaring success with Davina being offered both positions
PERSONAL OUTCOMES Davina accepted a position at Keepmoat PLC as a Trainee Tenant Liaison Officer Davina finished the course with a positive outlook and a sense of achievement and is now looking forward to starting her new job with Keepmoat Housing Association
