Sudbury reopens its doors The word ‘unprecented’ may be up there with one of the most frequently used words in 2020. We think back to late February / early March and Coronavirus had already started to turn the world upside down. By 23 March, most UK businesses were forced to close their doors and drastically re-think how they could keep going without re-opening them for months. In Sudbury, a town known for its community cohesion, the drive to help the most vulnerable in our town was immediate. At the time of writing (on Suffolk Day no less), the Sudbury Community Network still has a total of 167 active local volunteers who continue to help over 200 people in need in Sudbury, Great Cornard and surrounding villages. With this incredible team of volunteers, Sudbury’s Community Wardens, our Crisis Co-ordinators (better known as Sudbury’s Tourist Info team), and the GO Start Community Transport volunteers have been invaluable cogs in keeping this support network well-oiled and in motion.
The strain this crisis has had on our community and businesses is palpable. However, Sudbury’s independent businesses have responded with incredible community spirit and creativity. From high teas in a box, ‘isolation packs’ delivered to your door, to live online sale rails, these innovations from our local Independent businesses have been compiled to form Sudbury’s Virtual High Street. The resource was created to enable local people to shop locally from home during lockdown. The Virtual High Street continues to be in a vital tool in keeping loyal customers connected to their favourite businesses, receiving over 3000 weekly visitors online. Even though doors are beginning to reopen, many businesses are realising that a digital presence is as important as a physical one – and that both play a vital role in their unique identities and survival. Despite Sudbury’s independents facing yet another serious threat to their livelihoods, they have shown unwavering

support for the most vulnerable in our community during this crisis. In Sudbury, our community and businesses are interwoven. We continue to stress the importance of supporting our local independent businesses – they are a vital part of Sudbury’s identity and vibrancy. Our town would be unthinkable without them. Now, as the nation enters the next phase of the Government’s COVID-19 ‘roadmap to recovery’ and many of our town’s retailers re-open their doors, a number of temporary measures are being implemented in Sudbury to enable businesses, residents and visitors alike feel safe to return and support local. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Sudbury Town Council have been operating a reduced outdoor market provision and a number of essential town retailers have been open in accordance with COVID-19 secure guidelines. This has afforded some insight into the challenges individual businesses face as they re-open their doors and as a town, how we can reassure customers. As restrictions are slowly lifted, and more businesses re-open, the demand on outside queuing and socially distanced space increases. Protecting our community and supporting our local businesses by creating more safe pedestrian zones is a top priority at the moment. Through the application and testing of these temporary measures, we not only seek to reassure but we also strive to create pleasant, relaxed spaces that everyone can enjoy. There is overwhelming evidence to suggest that outside spaces are safer in terms of the spread of the virus, this has underpinned our decision to keep our market provision open throughout (with social distancing measures in place) and is a major factor in our motivation to create more pedestrian friendly outdoor space for both our businesses and visitors. The temporary measures we have in place to enable social distancing (these are all regularly reviewed): • The pedestrianisation of Market Hill (full parking suspension and road closure) • A kerbside parking suspension on North Street. (Loading and disabled bays have been retained). • The temporary addition of a third market day, Sudbury market will operate Thursday, Friday and Saturday on Market Hill • Suggested pedestrian routes from Station Road (Roy’s) car park via Station Road or Hamilton Road to Town Centre. To aid with pedestrian ‘bottleneck’ via King Street. • Outdoor social distance markers for queuing – free for all local businesses Rachel Price, Town Centre Manager, Sudbury Town Council

The Mayor writes... It has been over a month now since I was elected as Sudbury y Town Mayor for 2020/21 by my fellow Councillors. Although not new to the role, I regard it as a huge privilege to represent this town for a third time, especially WHENĂ’ WEĂ’ HAVEĂ’ FACEDĂ’ ONEĂ’ OFĂ’ THEĂ’ MOSTĂ’ DIFÂľCULTĂ’ PERIODSĂ’ INĂ’ RECENTĂ’ HISTORY Ă’Ă’ The COVID-19 Pandemic has tested all of us to our boundaries, although in Sudbury we have been far more fortunate than many other parts of the country. Nevertheless, that does not lessen the trauma to those that have been affected by this awful disease. The spirit of the people of Sudbury has never disappointed me with so many volunteering to help at this MOSTĂ’DIFÂľCULTĂ’TIME Ă’)Ă’WOULDĂ’LIKEĂ’TOĂ’ADDĂ’MYĂ’THANKSĂ’TOĂ’ALLĂ’OFĂ’YOUĂ’WHOĂ’HAVEĂ’ supported family, friends, neighbours and many people that you did not even know, you truly are a credit to the Town.

As we come out of this isolation and try to get back to some kind of normality, let us hope that the friendship and tolerance that has evolved during the last three months will continue into the future. Our shops and local businesses will need our support in the coming months for them to have any chance of survival. So, I urge everyone of us to shop and order local produce. I acknowledge that we cannot get everything we need from our local shops, but what we can, we should, because a Town without shops will not survive. The number of walkers, runners and cyclists that have been enjoying our RECENTĂ’ ÂľNEĂ’ WEATHERĂ’ ANDĂ’ GETTINGĂ’ OUTĂ’ ENJOYINGĂ’ OURĂ’ WONDERFULĂ’ -EADOWSĂ’ and scenery has been a revelation. It has encouraged Suffolk County Council to seek out ways to make cycling and walking safer and although at an early stage it at least has gained some momentum. I do hope that SUFÂľCIENTĂ’FUNDSĂ’AREĂ’MADEĂ’AVAILABLEĂ’TOĂ’ACHIEVEĂ’THIS Ă’ On a bit of a sour note, I have been disappointed at one or two dog walkers that do not clean up after their animals, most owners act responsibly. It is not a pleasant part of owning an animal but it is essential. There are plenty of bag dispensers and dog bins around the town so there is absolutely no excuse, please consider other users. Some of the more pleasant parts of being a Mayor have not been possible, such as raising funds for local charities, presenting awards, visiting other parts of Suffolk, and representing Sudbury at other Mayoral functions. I have however, had the privilege of presenting a Lottery cheque to the Kernos Centre for ÂŁ9900, a wonderful local charity which provides counselling to people of all ages, including children, who suffer from stress, anxiety and many other psychological issues. I am hopeful that as things improve the Mayors activities will increase, I cannot wait! However, in the meantime I would, if possible, like to hold some fundraising activities online to raise money for my chosen charities, any ideas would be most welcome! That is all for now,
Jack Owen, Town Mayor for Sudbury

The award-winning business, which is located next to the iconic Swan Hotel, has an enviable reputation for bespoke jewellery, repairs and antique jewellery restoration. The business, which is run by husband and wife team, Jonathan and Yasmin Lambert can between them boast over 60 years combined experience. Six decades of experience in jewellery design and manufacture is nothing compared with the six generations of the family who have made their living at the jeweller’s bench. Francis Lambert began his apprenticeship in 1795 and the Lambert family have been goldsmiths and silversmiths ever since. Yasmin, has a 1st Class Honours degree in Jewellery Design from Central St Martins and spent 7 years as a jewellery designer for Garrards, the then Crown Jewellers. She has designed jewellery for a host of celebrities and of course our own royal family. One of her most recent commissions was an exclusive collection of jewellery for the Royal Collection Trust. Jonathan, was the youngest ever Chairman of The National Association of Goldsmiths and is also a past Chairman of the Institute of Registered Valuers. He is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and a Freeman of the City of London. He has followed in family tradition and continues to repair, restore and maintain civic and livery regalia for a number of councils and city livery companies. Together, the couple can offer the full range of jewellery services, from intricate bespoke commissions to the careful restoration of family heirlooms. They have an extensive range of beautiful jewellery suitable for any occasion and are always happy to help and advise.

Painting a Brighter Future in the midst of Covid 19 Like many small businesses Painters Cafe in Sudbury faced uncertainty at the beginning of lock down. But after taking stock and realising how much customers were missing their famous home baked treats, the husband and wife team set up a takeaway service in response to the many requests THEYĂ’RECEIVEDĂ’ANDĂ’HAVEĂ’BEENĂ’WORKINGҚATĂ’OUTĂ’OVERĂ’THEĂ’PASTĂ’FEWĂ’MONTHSĂ’TOĂ’ keep up with demand. The couple have worked in the hospitality industry all over the world. Tracy is from South Africa and her husband & chef Alan is from Mexico, they moved to Sudbury two years ago, when they took over Painters from the previous owners. Both share a passion for travel, local cuisine and triathlon. “We are extremely hands on and passionate about our cafĂŠ, we opened our doors in September 2018, it’s been an evolving masterpiece, most of the renovations and work in the CafĂŠ has been done by our own hands, gradually we have painted this canvas to be our own Painters CafĂŠ, we would not have been able to achieve this without the help and support from our hard working team members.â€? Painters CafĂŠ is set in a 17th Century building bursting with character, opposite Gainsborough House in the historic market town of Sudbury, Suffolk. A warm and welcoming atmosphere greets you as you step into the owner run cafe. There is plenty of seating inside as well as a quaint sunny courtyard. Many ingredients are sourced locally and seasonally. The menu offers breakfasts, daily specials, excellent coffees, cream teas and home baked cakes. Painters also has a great choices for vegan and gluten visitors. The CafĂŠ is fully licenced for the sale of alcohol. Everything is always presented beautifully and prices are very reasonable. The cafe is pet friendly. High tea boxes have been the most popular takeaway item, Alan works his magic in the kitchen, baking every morning from scratch. Tracy has enjoyed seeing the delight and surprise on someones face when a high tea is delivered that they weren’t expecting, “It’s absolutely priceless, so many of the older generation have gone a long time without seeing anyone.â€? In recognition of the support of their customers and generally of the efforts made by key workers the couple decided to give something back to the community, “We set up a lucky draw for a high tea box for a key worker. We receive over a hundred nominations weekly, I have been doing a random draw that is video recorded and put on instagram and facebook, we have had a wide RANGEĂ’OFĂ’WINNERSĂ’FROMĂ’AĂ’COFÂľNĂ’MAKER Ă’.(3Ă’WORKER Ă’CAREĂ’HOMEĂ’ASSISTANT Ă’ and teacher. “ The couple intend to continue providing high quality goods in a pleasant and friendly environment. They are committed to using local produce where they can including eggs, bread, coffee, beer, cheese, fruit, vegetables, meat and honey. You can even purchase a quirky tea cosy made by their neighbours mum (be quick they sell out fast!) “We just want to carry on with what we are doing, we love our cafe and this community oh and we must buy a new oven our oven, she is on her last legs!â€? At this time of year, the current Rotary Club President retires: David Lowe will step down from this role and Sandra Armitage will take it on for 202021. Nothing could prepare David or Sandra for recent and likely future restrictions on the work of Rotary and our usual meetings and activities, a number of which had to be cancelled during the ‘lock down’. Meanwhile, twenty or so members of Sudbury Rotary have managed to meet every Monday via Zoom, but it is just not the same as seeing friends face-to-face! 3ANDRAĂ’HASĂ’BEENĂ’AĂ’2OTARIANĂ’FORĂ’ALMOSTĂ’ Ă’YEARS Ă’HAVINGĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’JOINEDĂ’AĂ’CLUBĂ’ WHENĂ’SHEĂ’MOVEDĂ’TOĂ’AĂ’NEWĂ’AREAĂ’ANDĂ’NEEDEDĂ’TOĂ’ÂľNDĂ’NEWĂ’FRIENDS Ă’Ă’Ă’"EFOREĂ’ moving to Suffolk and joining Sudbury Rotary, Sandra had been a member of Luton Someries and been their President. Sandra says “I must admit to feeling a little like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz as I tread the yellow brick road searching for the answer. I wish it were simply a question of closing my eyes, clicking my shoes together and saying ‘there is no place like home, there is no place like home’ to return safely to the Mill to meet you all for lunch or attend a REG meeting at Prado.â€? Even so, Sandra is looking forward to taking on the role of President in Sudbury and has presented her ideas to Club members for their approval. These will include “Home at lastâ€? -plans for getting on with business as usual in the hope that life can return to ‘normal’ fairly soon, and Rotary FUN (Rotary ‘For Us Now’) as we continue to operate under the current situation but also seek to retain a presence in the community and the greater world of Rotary. Once normal meetings can resume, it is hoped to encourage, where possible, more diversity and ethnicity in our membership, have a varied range of interesting speakers with particular emphasis on the environment and mental and physical wellbeing, consider the environment and reducing waste in our daily activities and increase awareness amongst young people about these concerns. We also hope that, once restrictions are lifted, we can have a few social gatherings to encourage a more casual, relaxed setting for friendship. %ACHĂ’YEAR Ă’THEĂ’0RESIDENTĂ’CHOOSESĂ’SPECIÂľCĂ’CHARITIESĂ’WHICHĂ’WILLĂ’BENEÂľTĂ’FROMĂ’ fund-raising by the Club. President Elect Gloria Woods will manage the Club Service committee and prepare the programme for the coming year, which will include fund-raising projects as well as regular club speakers and events. Everything depends on government guidelines, but it is hoped that our normal Christmas activities will take place, including the Schools Christmas Concert and the annual Christmas Tree Festival. In the meantime, the annual Prom concert postponed from 4 July has been rearranged for Sunday 25 October.

Because our annual birthday Charter Night also had to be cancelled, it is planned to hold a celebration of Rotary in 2021, which will be jointly hosted by David Lowe and Sandra. Crucial Crew was another casualty of the lock-down but is now booked for the week of 17-21 May 2021.

A new Public Image Committee has been set up, with the intention of ‘marketing’ the activities of our Club, recognising that we need to promote ourselves for growth and survival.
Even if the restrictions on community activities does continue for the remainder of this year, there are possibilities of organising virtual fundraising events, such as a Car Rally, a Treasure Trail, a children’s painting competition, or crowd-funding a worthwhile project. So Sudbury Rotary remains undaunted in its plans for the future and looks forward to doing whatever it can to support our community in and around Sudbury and in the wider world. Despite the lock down, if any anyone wishes to contact the Rotary Club – perhaps with a view to becoming more involved in Rotary meetings and activities, please leave a message on the Club telephone (07787 470876). You could try this for free via a Zoom link to begin meeting other members of the Club! Rotarian Lesley Ford-Platt
Front Step Initiative connects Communities during Lock down Back in March, like many people, local antique dealer Chad Brown found himself compromised in terms of work. Thankfully this has since changed, but during a quiet period he was inspired by his love of photography to pick up his camera and document local residents on their doorsteps, as a way of capturing the essence of lock down. Initially FRIENDSĂ’ANDĂ’FAMILYĂ’GOTĂ’INVOLVEDĂ’ANDĂ’INĂ’HISĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’ week he photographed 10 families . A face book followed and to date he has captured 250 The Pryke Family local residents. Plans are in place to project with their very the pictures onto St Peters Church or the smart dog Pandora! Town Hall in the near future and a exhibition is also on the cards. Chad has been overwhelmed by the positive response to his Front Step Initiative. Residents have enjoyed sharing their photos WITHĂ’ EXTENDEDĂ’ MEMBERSĂ’ OFĂ’ THEIRĂ’ FAMILYĂ’ ANDĂ’ BENEÂľTEDĂ’ FROMĂ’ THEĂ’ SENSEĂ’ OFĂ’ CONNECTIONĂ’ THATĂ’ THEĂ’ PROJECTĂ’ HASĂ’ PROVIDEDĂ’ DURINGĂ’ THISĂ’ DIFÂľCULTĂ’ TIME Ă’ #HADĂ’ has gifted the digital copies to Suffolk Heritage Photo Archive and offered free downloads of the photos taken to families involved. “I’m not accepting any money for this at all. It’s completely free. I am just asking people to pay it forward in any positive way they they can, by making a donation to charity or just helping a neighbour out.â€? Chad intends to move forward with his photography as a business alongside his antique dealership and information can be found on www.diversecapturephotography.co.uk

James Cartlidge writes Member of Parliament for South Suffolk It seems like such a short time since we went into full scale lockdown with the instruction to ‘stay at home’. Yes, we must all stay alert to the risk of new outbreaks but it is striking that at the time of writing new cases of people testing positive for Covid in Suffolk have dropped very substantially, and the national alert level has been shifted to three – i.e. lowering the pandemic threat. Importantly, this shift is starting to translate into real change, as we emerge cautiously from lockdown. A key moment occurred in mid-June, as non-essential retail businesses REOPENEDĂ’FORĂ’THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’TIMEĂ’SINCEĂ’LOCKDOWN Ă’)FĂ’WEĂ’CANĂ’SHOPĂ’INĂ’SUPERMARKETS Ă’ we can now get out and support our smaller shops, so important not just to the local economy but also to our sense of community. By July, we may even start to see some relaxation of the rules around hospitality, with the possibility of visiting pubs and restaurants outside. 0ERSONALLY Ă’ THEĂ’ MOSTĂ’ SIGNIÂľCANTĂ’ FEELINGĂ’ OFĂ’ THEĂ’ TIDEĂ’ TURNINGĂ’ AWAYĂ’ FROMĂ’ lockdown was when I took three of my four children on the school run for THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’TIMEĂ’INĂ’MONTHS Ă’SEEINGĂ’FORĂ’MYSELFĂ’THEĂ’CHANGESĂ’BEINGĂ’IMPLEMENTEDĂ’ to follow public health guidelines in the classroom. That said, I am aware that many parents will not have been able to send their children back so I was delighted that the Government has announced a ÂŁ1bn fund for catchup resources ahead of the September term, including funding for tutoring our most disadvantaged pupils. I have also joined others in returning physically to work after two months in THEĂ’HOMEĂ’OFÂľCEĂ’ENVIRONMENT Ă’ANDĂ’HAVEĂ’ENJOYEDĂ’BEINGĂ’BACKĂ’INĂ’7ESTMINSTER Ă’ even though we’ve also had to adapt our workplace – but this makes us no different to thousands of others rearranging their usual habits to cope with Covid. Zoos have reopened; top level sport is back (but behind closed doors). We will have many more challenges ahead of us, both economically, and in terms of the lingering threat of further outbreaks. But it is heartening that we can start hoping for better days to come.
Sudbury Library We are very pleased to announce that Sudbury library will be reopening on Monday 6th July Suffolk Libraries has been following government advice and carefully planning the reopening of library branches. As I’m sure everyone will understand, the wellbeing and safety of our customers and staff is our priority so our services will look a little different initially: • Our opening hours will be different until further notice. We will be opening Monday – Friday 10 – 1 You can see full details on our website • The government have advised against allowing browsing of books and other items. We’ll be implementing a new select and collect service. You can contact us in advance by phoning the library on 0787 321595 or emailing Sudbury.library@suffolklibraries.co.uk to request items which you can then pick up from the library. • Reservations will also be unavailable during July. • While reservations are unavailable, you will only be able select stock that is available at Sudbury library. • The customer area will be reduced to the foyer area of the library, and a maximum of 1 customer in at a time. This to ensure that everyone can social distance in the reduced area without any problems. • Access to computers, printing and photocopying will be unavailable during July. • Access to the public toilets will not be available for the foreseeable future. • Customers can only borrow 10 items at a time, but you keep them for an extended period of up to 4 weeks. • Borrowing DVDs and CDS will be free until further notice! • Overdue charges will remain suspended throughout July and August. • Return dates for loans taken out prior to lockdown will be extended to 31 August. • If you’re just returning items you can use our book drop for this which will be located at the front entrance We will constantly review the situation over the coming months and reintroduce services and activities when it’s safe to do so. If you are being shielded or self-isolating we would naturally ask that you stay away from the library for now. We’d also recommend that customers wear a face covering when visiting if possible and will be asking our staff to do the same. As we need to stick to social distancing guidelines it would also help if you could come on your own or just bring one child with you, if possible. In more normal times I do a lot to help my elderly mum, like picking up shopping, sorting out her ¾NANCES Ò MAKINGÒ IMPORTANTÒ CALLSÒ ANDÒ ORGANISINGÒ HERÒ POST Ò But, unfortunately with lockdown in place I’m not able to see her as frequently, and though I’ve still been able to drop off her SHOPPING Ò)gMÒNOÒLONGERÒABLEÒTOÒHELPÒHERÒWITHÒTHEÒOTHERÒTHINGS Ò I’m particularly worried about how much I’ve read about scammers at the moment, and I wondered whether there’s anything I can do from a distance to help protect my mum? There are a few steps you can take from a distance to keep your mother safe and lessen your need to worry. With your mother’s permission you can register her landline with the Telephone Preference Service. It’s free to register and doing so will reduce the amount of unwanted sales and marketing calls you receive. This won’t block all unwanted calls (it won’t work on calls from abroad or companies she’s given her number to already, for example), so your mother will need to continue to remain vigilant, but it’ll certainly lessen the number of them. You can encourage your mother to talk to her phone provider to see what privacy services and call-blocking services are available. These services aren’t always free but are useful in ensuring any call coming through is from a trusted or known source.

Lastly, if your mother is receiving care from her local authority and you think she might be being scammed, it’s worth reporting your concerns to their Adult Safeguarding team. *Please note we are no longer seeing clients face to face until further notice*

New beginnings and evolution through the pandemic The current pandemic has been a very unsettling time for everyone, life for some feels like it will never go back to ‘normal’. Perhaps now is the time, while restrictions are slowly beginning to lift, to start to concentrate on new beginnings and evolution. A local BACP media spokesperson, Glenda D Roberts who runs an excelling counselling placement agency in Sudbury, JustTalk2019 with minimal to none waiting lists for affordable therapy is doing just this – concentrating on new beginnings and evolution. In March 2020, Just before the country went into lockdown, Glenda D Roberts and her team were awarded for their hard work the APA ethical and psychological award. JustTalk2019 and ExploringU counselling were chosen to receive this award as a result of the APA being particularly impressed with the impact of the management’s efforts and processes, which do not just support those who Donna Taylor & Glenda D Roberts are involved with the centres delivery of service but directly increases the mental health of those people in which they engage with. APA stated that the connective and collaborative approach the management have built into the operational framework is truly inspiring. Prior to Glenda receiving this prestigious award, the Managing Directors of the APA supported JustTalk2019 at the SCREENINGĂ’OFĂ’THEIRĂ’NEWĂ’ÂľLMĂ’f$YINGĂ’TOĂ’BEĂ’FAMOUSg Ă’4HISĂ’SCREENINGĂ’TOOKĂ’PLACEĂ’ at the Quay Theatre, Sudbury in February 2020. They met Glenda and her team members and were able to discuss the important work they do to continue to support the community of Sudbury and surrounding villages. JustTalk2019 set out future plans to APA which is to join forces with the ALREADYĂ’ ESTABLISHEDĂ’ $4Ă’ ÂľLMS Ă’ 4HEĂ’ JOININGĂ’ OFĂ’ BOTHĂ’ *UST4ALK Ă’ ANDĂ’ $4Ă’ ÂľLMSĂ’ISĂ’ANĂ’INNOVATIVEĂ’FRESHĂ’NEWĂ’VENTUREĂ’TOĂ’BECOMEĂ’AĂ’3OCIALĂ’%NTERPRISEĂ’TOĂ’ MAKEĂ’MULTI FACETEDĂ’ÂľLMSĂ’ANDĂ’THERAPYĂ’PACKAGESĂ’TOĂ’EMPOWERĂ’THEĂ’YOUTHĂ’OFĂ’ today and will be offering multi packages to school all over the country. What is APA, Ayanay Psychological Accreditation an alternative membership body for the psychological sector. This dynamic organisation has become a stand out membership body who excel at promoting the principles and ethos of therapy. Their astounding underpinning is grounded by Carl Rogers’ model of Empathy, Congruence and unconditional positive regard. They prize themselves as offering both THERAPISTSĂ’ANDĂ’COUNSELLORSĂ’THEĂ’ÂľRSTĂ’OPPORTUNITYĂ’ to be recognised for their self-awareness, capacity and capability. The founders of APA, Siobhan (Vonnie) Crosbie and Dave Sleet offer their membership not just in the UK but also globally. Siobhan, a very experienced counsellor who has a thriving practice for 17 years in London. Working from a psychotherapeutic approach, she has been able to use her past trauma experience both as a child and as a young adult alongside her professional training, resulting in implementing effective facilitation for the BENEÂľTĂ’OFĂ’HERĂ’CLIENTS $AVEĂ’ ISĂ’ ANĂ’ !UTHORĂ’ ANDĂ’ QUALIÂľEDĂ’ LIFEĂ’ COACHĂ’ WHOSEĂ’ WHOLEĂ’ LIFEĂ’ HASĂ’ BEENĂ’ shaped by his own childhood experiences, being raised in a family who fostered over 90 children and young people between the years 1979 and 1989. Dave utilises true Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques and approaches whilst working from a psychodynamic base which results in an exceptionally focused and effective platform to support those who are in need. In 2018 the pair joined forces together creating Ayanay Elevated Membership. They both started this by restructuring Siobhan’s original company Ayanay whilst she was undergoing cancer treatment. They focused on the best supplemental learning and support for the therapeutic community through video presentations and retreats. Due to changes in the way therapeutic professionals would be recognised, Siobhan and Dave decided to have a rethink on the whole sector. In early 2019 They had both come to realise that the Psychological Hive had clear synergy to the principles of therapeutic practice. As a result of this Dave designed, created and tested an alternative to traditional membership bodies that had dominated the therapeutic sector for decades. The result of this work was launched on 4th July 2019 as Ayanay Psychological Accreditation (APA) Membership. An Accreditation Membership Body rooted in the principles of therapeutic practice. It is an honour to receive such an award from a forward-thinking newly established membership body.

As we cannot hold our annual Open Day this July, join me on a socially distanced, virtual stroll around my estate. Update on SAIL Here at SAIL have been working hard to focus on the positives throughout THEÒLOCKDOWNÒSITUATIONÒTOÒ¾NDÒAÒWAYÒAROUNDÒTHEÒRESTRAINTSÒTHATÒWEREÒPLACEDÒ on us in order to still provide A safe level of support. We realised we couldn’t support our customers with life skills such as shopping and cooking etc, instead we focused on both mental and physical well being. We replaced activities such as bowling and cinema visits with lots of long walks. We discovered beauty spots that were on our doorstep, places we passed regularly but never thought of visiting such as The Croft, Rodbridge and Clare Country Park. We came up with games such as nature bingo and treasure hunts to make the walks more interesting. The games made us take more notice of nature. We noticed THEÒDIFFERENTÒCOLOURÒWILDҚOWERS ÒTHEÒDIFFERENTÒSHAPEDÒ leaves and different birds. We saw the rivers getting clearer, the trees and bushes getting greener, we heard the birds singing. On one of our trips we discovered a swan family, we have followed the progress of them since. There were a few sad moments when the number of the babies decreased but still get excited to see how the remaining ones are growing and learning to fend for themselves. We have a private Facebook page so all our customers can follow progress of the swans and I often get a message asking about them. Even though it has been a confusing and crazy time for our customers, especially those with Autism, it has forced us all to step off of life’s treadmill and appreciate what nature has to offer.
