Plan for the future, protect your interests and preserve your wealth
Property Life Interest Trust Wills are becoming increasingly popular among couples due to the desire to preserve family assets for younger generations. But many are not familiar with these types of Wills or realise their benefit until speaking with a solicitor.
It is probably more likely than you think but your choice of conveyancer can make all the difference.
Give yourself the best chance of a successful completion on your home purchase or sale by working in partnership with Holmes & Hills Solicitors. Benefit from our successful completion rate that is 22% higher than the national average reported by Rightmove1
What number of property transactions fall-through? Rightmove report that, on average across the country, approximately 30% of property transactions fall-through2. It is a much higher percentage than most buyers and sellers expect it to be.
Property Life Interest Trust Wills can be of particular benefit to couples considering planning for future care and preservation of assets. Specialist advice on Property Life Interest Trust Wills can provide for both protecting the financial position and living arrangements of the surviving spouse, as well as protecting assets for future generations. For couples with children from a previous relationship, Property Life Interest Trust Wills can also prove an effective legal solution.
Reduce the risk of your transaction falling-through Those using Holmes & Hills Solicitors’ conveyancing services benefit from a 22% higher successful completion rate compared to the national average. This means your transaction has an increased chance of successfully completing when Holmes & Hills is advising and representing you in your property transaction.
Taking advice and making early decisions to plan effectively
It is often the case that a couple’s main asset is their family home, and many are conscious of this when considering planning their estate and inheritance for their loved ones. However, many couples can limit their ability to effectively plan and preserve their estate, or limit their available options for this, if planning their estate is left too late.
Social Club Social Club is now twice monthly on the first and third Monday of each month with the exception of May 15 due to clearingup after the book sale. The photo is of the April meeting. Our next meeting is May 1 from 10 am - 12 noon at Layham Village Hall. Everyone is welcome whether you live in Layham or not. Come along and enjoy a social atmosphere.
This is certainly the case in respect of how their home will be treated upon death. The earlier advice is sought, the better in this regard.
How your property is owned is important
Every other meeting, we aim to have a speaker or demonstrator. June 5 is an illustrated talk entitled ‘Constable and his Paintings’. All meetings are from 10 AM to 12 PM and there is a small charge of £2 to cover costs. Sue Keeble suekeeuk@yahoo.co.uk
‘A Layham Childhood’
Property can be held jointly in one of two ways. Property held as “Joint Tenants” will pass automatically to the surviving owner under survivorship rules whereas, property held as “Tenants in Common” will pass under the terms of a Will. For couples to effectively plan their estate, it is often necessary for their main residence to be owned as Tenants in Common, providing each with a % share ownership which can be directed into a Trust upon death.
Monday May 8 at 12 am - 4 pm
What is a Property Life Interest Trust Will and what does it do?
There will be a display in Layham Mill (courtesy of Glenda and Ed Hall) about growing up in Layham over the years – 1900 to 1970s.
Why do property transactions fall-through? Your transaction might fallthrough for a number of reasons, including your buyer finding another property; a surveyor identifying issues with the property; or a buyer’s solicitor identifying issues surrounding matters such as rights of way, covenants, lease terms, easements, overage, options or boundary issues. Why is Holmes & Hills’ successful completion rate 22% higher? Holmes & Hills has a large team of 22 property lawyers dealing with second-hand, new-build and shared ownership property across the country. The size of the team means there is unlikely to be an issue the team hasn’t seen and resolved before. Proactively identifying and resolving problems means we can keep your transaction on course, reducing the risk of your property transaction falling through and securing you a successful completion. Benefit from fixed fee packages As well as an increased chance of your transaction successfully completing, Holmes & Hills provides fixedfee residential conveyancing quotes with no hidden charges. When you obtain conveyancing quotations from other law firms you may find charges for completing Stamp Duty Land Tax forms, dealing with lenders and leasehold fees. With Holmes & Hills, these items are included within our legal fee. We give you a simple, transparent, fixed-fee quotation.
A solicitor is able to re-organise a couple's ownership of a property alongside preparing a Will for you, so as to ring fence each individual's property share in a Trust for future generations and identified beneficiaries. The surviving spouse/partner is protected by having a lifetime right of residence in the property and can be one of the trustees (managers) of the Trust. Therefore, the gift of your respective share in your principal residence at death is made to your trustees on trust and is subject to the surviving spouse/partner's right to live in the property for their lifetime. The Trust can be flexible in that the surviving spouse/partner will be able to move to another property using all or part of the value of the property.
The display contains many fascinating personal memories and photographs (see Gerry Aggiss aged 10 below) gathered by members of the Layham Local History Group.
There will also be an opportunity to see some short films made in Layham in the 30s and later including a 1937 Coronation Procession through Hadleigh streets - with thanks to Bobby Gales. Refreshments available on the playing field adjacent. Sue Keeble suekeeuk@yahoo.co.uk
Partner with Holmes & Hills to secure your transaction By working in partnership with our clients, local estate agents, mortgage brokers, and financial advisors, Holmes & Hills’ residential property lawyers will ensure a smooth transaction, whilst protecting your legal interests.
Call Holmes & Hills Solicitors on 01787 275275 and ask to speak to Paige Hornabrook or email advice@holmes-hills.co.uk.
Any surplus capital not used in the purchase of a new property can be invested and the income can be paid to the surviving spouse/partner for their lifetime. The surviving spouse or partner can decide to make gifts to the family if they do not need the surplus capital or income. Property Life Interest Trust Wills are very flexible, with the surviving spouse/partner even able to rent out the property and receive the rental income.
1Holmes & Hills’ successful completion rate is calculated using sample data for 526 residential property transactions started between July 2022 to September 2022 and is compared to the national average successful completion rate of 70.3% (provided by Rightmove, 13/02/2023). 2Rightmove data supplied on 13/02/2023.
These types of Wills and arrangements can often be recommended where couples (married or unmarried) wish to plan for future care and preservation of assets for future generations and/or provide for children from a previous relationship, whilst at the same time providing security and peace of mind to the surviving spouse/partner.
Speak to an expert from Holmes & Hills Solicitors
Layham Spring Clean Thank you to the 20 volunteers who helped on and around 18th March. We were pleased to find very little litter on the lanes in the village but disappointed to see more on the verges of the main roads leading in to Layham and to have to pick up dog waste from the playing field. Volunteers also made a big difference working on Brett Green and cleaning road signs. Thank you to all of you who take a pride in our village and work so hard to make it such a special place. The picture shows Sue Keeble and Chris Leftwich enjoying the rain!
It is always a good idea to take advice when thinking about planning for the future, planning your estate and planning for care. When considering whether Life Interest Trust Wills are appropriate for your circumstances and wishes, your solicitor will also consider your Inheritance Tax position. As mentioned, it is advisable to seek advice sooner rather than later to ensure all legal solutions and options remain available to you.
For expert advice on planning for the future, contact Holmes & Hills on 01787 275275 or email advice@holmes-hills.co.uk and speak with one of our specialists from your local Holmes & Hills office.

Taste Of Sudbury Food & Drink Festival 17th JUNE 2023
Following the great success of the Taste of Sudbury last year in Long Melford, plans are already in place to ensure 2023 is even better.
With Melford Hall closed for outdoor events this year, the festival is delighted to be located in the grounds of Kentwell Hall, against the backdrop of the stunning Tudor mansion, this is the perfect location for all the wonderful tastes and smells at this one-day festival.
Supporting local producers and celebrating local food and drink has been the core focus and theme of the festival for several years. It is so important, and indicative of the success of the festival, that we have several local businesses that support the festival and ensure its sustainability.
A local festival that attracts local support
County Broadband – another local business that is currently on a mission to ensure rural villages in the East of England can access full-fibre broadband, that’s future-ready. Already a successful roll out in Sudbury is shaping up and they will continue to grow throughout the region giving communities access to high-speed internet!
Holmes & Hills Solicitors have supported The Taste of Sudbury from the beginning and are a welcome addition to the event where they always have a stand offering information about their services in Sudbury and hand out their own recipe handbooks!
Spectre Leisure Ltd – locally and family-owned hospitality business that runs local puns The White Hart in Boxford and the Maldon Grey in Sudbury
Paul Clark Printing - based in Sible Hedingham, Essex the team have supported the festival with quality printing and design services for leaflets/flyers, and banners plus a whole lot more.
David Burr Estate Agents – experts in the field of sales and letting through Suffolk and Essex since 1995 and now offering holiday rental management as well.
Eating and drinking on the day – the Taste of Sudbury always ensure visitors have a great welcome and plenty of local street food and drinks to keep everyone happy
And there’s more; Bars to choose from, tasty street food, treats and bakes, coffee or something a little stronger and plenty of great local produce including great local craft stalls.
Highlights from the Kitchen Demonstration Stage
Always a very popular part of the festival with the kitchen demo area crammed with visitors all day long – all the demos are part of the entrance fee and once again is hosted by Jon Jackaman from the ICE Café & Cookery School.
Appearing at the festival, as always, will be local chefs, bakers and butchers that we all want to celebrate and enjoy and it’s an excellent line up this year:-
Will Wooster and his dad Simon, owner and head baker at Woosters
Bakery gives us top tips for baking bread and sourdoughs at home and Greg Strolenberg, owner and head butcher at Lavenham Butchers gives us a masterclass in Muntjac butchery. We are also looking forward to welcoming great local chefs as follows:-
Alan Paton, head chef at The Bush Inn, Shimpling
Greig Young, local Suffolk chef
Lee Cooper, head chef at The Bedford Lodge, Newmarket
Rob Wells, head chef at The Black Lion, Long Melford
Martin Ingram, head chef at The White Hart, Boxford
There’s something for all the family.
The festival has always attracted all the family to attend and there is something for everyone this year. As well as all the street food and drinks (including those for kids) plus ice creams, plus let those kids get their hands dirty with free pottery sessions with Kiln Cottage Pottery – there will be clay activities all day in their gazebo. Music of course will be provided by our resident DJ Bedford 45 who will be playing a selection of sounds throughout the day.
So make a day of it, bring the family, dogs and your favourite picnic rug and enjoy your day at the Taste of Sudbury…
Tickets are just £5 for adults (18 years +)
Children go free (17 years and under) 10am – 5pm 17th June 2023

This is the quote we received from a loved one after their relative received a birthday cake when they find themselves in hospital on their special day.
Here at My WiSH Charity, we work closely with staff across the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
This not only includes those on the ward, but also our fantastic catering team who bake and decorate a cupcake to mark the patient’s birthday. Along with a birthday card, we hope that this small gesture shows we care.
You can see the cupcake’s journey from the kitchen to the ward here https://buff.ly/3lKwX7u
A donation in memory of muchloved man has come to the stroke unit at the West Suffolk Hospital. David Cordon, MBE, was the former chairman and director of the Woolpit Festival as well as having had a wonderful career as an actor before settling down in Woolpit with his partner, Stanley Bates, and close friend, Michael Elles to run an antiques shop and tea room.
This donation will allow us to enhance the care of patients on the stoke unit as well as support the amazing staff who care so wonderfully for their patients. Previous donations have allowed us to buy games and sensory items which help with rehabilitation. a specialist patient slide board which can weigh the patient and a Sarastedy which helps with patient transfer, both of which also help with patient dignity at a difficult time. Donations such as Stanleys, in memory of David, make such a difference to so many.

News from The Christopher Centre
Welcome from Kathy and Linda, Centre Coordinators.
May is upon us already, we hope you all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed the sunshine. Hopefully many of you will have had a chance to get out into the garden. Our little courtyard garden here at the Centre is looking very forlorn at the moment and is in much need of some TLC. If there are any volunteers who would like to get involved with some outdoor activity, drink tea and have a chat please do get in touch with us.
It has been another busy month at The Christopher Centre! With new groups taking advantage of our low room hire prices why not come along and see if we can provide a space for you and your groups, family functions or a well needed office space away from home!!
For those of you who are wondering what we do here, The Christopher Centre is a thriving community hub where many local groups run their classes and activities or family events without the mess in your home. We offer a number of rooms available to hire. We also house a number of offices used by local voluntary and community organisations. Our room hire is available on an hourly basis, from £6 per hour.
We also promote our own community activities particularly for individuals experiencing menopause, loneliness, isolation or mental health issues. We aim to continue bringing a friendly community approach to the people of Sudbury and surrounding areas, with some exciting new ventures and groups planned.
We are very busy taking room bookings for 2023; contact us if you would like to visit with a view to hosting your group or event with us. We have five incredible spaces to offer including the Commonlands Room that can comfortably house 30+ people and includes lovely modern kitchen facilities, to the Suffolk Room which is ideal for one-to-one meetings. Contact us via email: info@christophercentre.org.uk, telephone us on 01787 313914 or visit our website www.christophercentre.org.uk and follow the links to book online.
You can find us in Gainsborough Street opposite Gainsborough’s House. Why not come along one morning and say hello and have a look around?
Thank You:
To all our wonderful room hirers, group leaders, organisers, Trustees and friends of the Christopher Centre for their continued support and encouragement.
And as always, a HUGE thank you to our amazing Volunteers who keep the Centre running smoothly, running our reception, keeping the outside Courtyard area clear and small maintenance jobs.
Volunteers:
We are pleased to report we have had more interest in our volunteer positions but can never have enough, our volunteers are what keeps the Centre active!
We are always keen to welcome Volunteers who have skills they could offer the Centre; Gardening, Odd Jobs, Decorating, Reception Cover. We already have two volunteers who work very hard in our courtyard throughout the year making this area clean, tidy and presentable but as they say every little helps.

In April our speaker was Chris Wiley of Sow Successful. He is a young plantsman developing his own nursery and gave us an interesting talk on how he became interested in growing and cultivating different seeds. He now supplies big seed merchants and also sells his cut flowers to florists. The topic was mostly about his sweet peas..a bouquet of which was presented to the queen on what was to be her final visit to the Chelsea Flower Show. What a pleasure to have the sun at last..doesn’t it lift our mood. Everything is growing well with a promise of a fruitful summer. Due to the Coronation and bank holiday Monday our May meeting is once again a week later on 15 th May. Helen Chen will be giving us an insight into Asian Woodland Plants..so something exotic !

May Advice Column
I recently started a new job where my boss has told me I’ll have to work on bank holidays. This was never the case in my old job. Can my employer really make me work on a public holiday, and should I get paid extra if I do?
Congratulations on the new job and wonderful to hear you’re enjoying the work.
Unfortunately, when it comes to bank holidays, whether or not staff have to work is up to their employer, and you don’t have to be paid more if you do. The situation will vary from job to job and may depend on a number of factors such as whether your place of work is open on bank holidays, your hours of work and crucially, what your contract says.
Take a look at your contract, if you have one, to find out what your personal situation is. Your contract might say you will always get bank holidays off but it might say you may sometimes be required to work them or will always be required to work. If your place of work is normally open on a bank holiday you’ll probably be asked to work at least some. But if your contract says you get bank holidays off you shouldn’t be asked to work. Your contract might say something like: “In addition to bank and public holidays, your annual entitlement to holidays is X days”. This means you get public holidays off in addition to your annual leave entitlement but it might not mean you’re entitled to take the specific days off. You may be required to work a bank holiday, in which case you should get another day off instead.
Alternatively, it might say something like: “Your annual holiday entitlement (inclusive of bank and public holidays) is X days” - this means you have to take bank holidays off as part of your annual leave entitlement. Bank holidays will either be deducted from your annual leave allowance (so you’ll have to book all bank holidays as paid time off) or counted as additional holiday days.
A common misunderstanding around bank holidays is that employers have to pay you extra for working them. This is not the case. Unless your contract says you’ll be paid extra you will just be paid your normal amount. If your contract says you are entitled to bank holidays but you’re asked to work, you should be able to take a different day off in lieu. Your employer has to follow what’s set out in your contract, if they don’t, you should raise this with them.
If you don’t have a contract, the legal default position is that your employer can tell you when you can or can’t take time off. If you’d like to request a bank holiday off, use the normal method for requesting time off. If you find you need to resolve an issue with your employer, first ask for an informal chat, where you can raise your concerns. If this doesn’t get you anywhere, you may need to raise a formal grievance. If you need advice on this, contact your local Citizens Advice
Make sure you can help your partner or a parent, should they need assistance

We will attempt three times to call you back, so please expect a call from a withheld number. 73% of people think IF a couple have a joint bank account and one person can't make decisions for themselves, their partner can legally make decisions for them both. similarly, 72% of people think your next of kin always gets the final say in treatment decisions at hospital, if you can't make them yourself*. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Should your spouse/partner or parent become unable to manage their affairs themselves due to ill-health or injury, their individual bank accounts are likely to be effectively frozen and neither a partner nor next of kin will be able to deal with organisations on their behalf. For example, this would mean being unable to deal with financial institutions in respect of accounts and pensions, the Department for Work and Pensions, or utility companies. Similarly, a next of kin will not be able to make decisions regarding the health and welfare of a spouse/partner, parent or other relative, including where and what care should be provided, as well as what end of life care should be received, if any.
What is needed to be able to help?
To assist your spouse/partner, parent or other relative with affairs during their lifetime, or make certain decisions you will need to have been appointed as an Attorney. This means they will need to have made Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs).
Common reasons for needing to help
Often people need to assist with these matters because their spouse/partner, parent or relative has become unable to manage their affairs themselves. This may be due to physical or mental incapacity, perhaps due to illness or an accident.
What happens if LPAs are not in place?
If you want to help your partner or parent with property, financial, health or welfare decisions and they do not have Powers of Attorney in place and were incapable of making them, you would need to make a costly application to the Court to obtain the necessary authority. The Court application takes several months and can be stressful and frustrating for those involved. Until the Court authorises your application you are unable to deal with the persons money or property, and will be unable to make decisions regarding their health and welfare.
What are the two types of Lasting Powers of Attorney?
LPAs are important documents that allow someone to give people (often close relatives or friends) the authority to make certain decisions on their behalf.
There are two types of Lasting Powers of Attorney:
Cost Of Living Concerns Babergh is able to assist with any concerns people may have and can signpost as required. Do get in touch if you need to. Distribution of simple insulation materials has now stopped. Another Repair Café is planned for 15 April.
Rotary Club of Sudbury
Hadleigh Men’s Shed There are now some 52 members and the Committee is considering additional opening times and new activities now that the workshop is fully kitted out.
Rotary Round-up
Benton End Matthew is now representing Benton End, having secured part time work with them across a variety of needs. Lucy Skellorn has left but is able to offer assistance on an ad hoc basis. Matthew is trying to secure quotes for a roof repairs (and ultimately a new roof !); interviewing, with James, for a two-days-a-week gardener after which volunteers will be sought and is putting in funding applications and work with community groups continues. Benton End has a garden designed by Sarah Price at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, after which the planting is coming to Benton End for incorporation into their garden here.
Hadleigh Old School’s new exhibition is Art for Your Home and Garden with indoor displays and garden sculptures. Preview night at 7pm Friday 14 April, and continuing Sat 15 (10-5pm) Sun 16 (11-4pm), Sat 22 (10-5pm) Sun 23 (11-4pm).
A-level student Rosy Morelli joined Sudbury Rotary members for lunch to tell them about her planned volunteering placement with Scottish charity, Project Trust. Rosy is a student at Thomas Gainsborough School in Great Cornard, studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Spanish and, alongside her studies, has been busily raising sponsorship to support the year-long trip to Honduras where she expects to teach in Spanish in a rural primary school as well as helping adults to learn English in after-school classes. Some schools do not have teachers which is why they need students to fill the role.
A O B
Rosy has organised a number of events to help her reach her funding target of £6,950, but still has more to raise. In May, Project Trust (who have been working in Honduras for over 25 years) will confirm where her placement will be, and the details of the host family with whom she will stay. Donations to sponsor Rosy can be made via justgiving.com/rosyhonduras.
Sylvia read out an email from Roger Young enquiring what would happen should a disaster befall Hadleigh (eg. a plane crash in the town or an unexploded bomb going off). Both HTC and BDC have had well-rehearsed plans for many years for just such events with relevant legal requirements for training/paperwork and consultation with all other relevant bodies firmly in place.
Another fascinating speaker at Sudbury Rotary in late April was Jennifer Antill, describing how she had researched for and written her first novel “Small Acts of Kindness - a tale of the first Russian Revolution”. Based on historical facts, the novel is set against the background of a revolt that took place in Saint Petersburg in December 1825 and explores the struggle against autocracy in Russia. A second book is to be published shortly and Jenny is already drafting her third novel.
Sarah reported that in 2024 it will be the 10th anniversary of the Christmas Present Trust and they are looking to hand over the reins for its organisation and fund raising. It started with 30 guests and now runs at about 120. There is a fund raiser/awareness raiser taking place at The Ansell Centre on Sat 10 June from 10 – 4pm with drinks and nibbles. It was suggested that leaflets be created and distributed at St Mary’s Pop-Ups as there is a synergy between the two events and may encourage the necessary organisers/volunteers. There is clearly a social need for this event and it would be very sad to lose it if no-one can be found to assist with the day’s event. They will be at the What’s About Hadleigh event on 27 May.
With two Bank Holidays at the start of May, the AGM on 15 May, and another Bank Holiday on 29 May, there is only one speaker meeting (subject yet to be confirmed) on 22 May. More details will be available on the Sudbury Rotary Club website www.sudburyrotary.com. Having run Crucial Crew for 21 years, advising over 14,000 year 6 pupils how to deal with some of life’s dangerous situations, the Club has now handed over this annual event to the Bridge Project, but Rotarians will still be involved by running the 999-call scenario.
Kathryn reported that the Mill Wheel has been covered and the area will be cleared and tidied before the Officer responsible leaves BDC. Preservation work is continuing in conjunction with Anglian Water. It is hoped to be able to introduce fish ladders here as well as further down-river by the Stour. It was suggested that signs be erected at the mill wheel site to inform visitors about the preservation/conservation work being done/planned.
The meeting closed at 5.17pm
Next Meeting: Tuesday 9 May 2023 @ 4:15pm. Hadleigh Pool &Leisure.
Rotary members are men and women from all backgrounds: we would be delighted to welcome you at one of our lunch-time meetings at Newton Green Golf Club, where we meet on the first three Mondays of each month. Lunch is optional, but our meetings give an opportunity for us to hear from speakers on topics of interest, follow up on matters concerned with our activities, and to enjoy each other’s company. Please let our Secretary David Taylor (07341 290415) know if you plan to visit us, so that we can advise the restaurant on numbers.

Facts and Figures from the Past
‘I have lived a thousand lives and I’ve loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.’ A quote from George R. R. Martin.’ We read to know we are not alone’ was another quote from C.S.Lewis. I recently had a holiday in Northern Cyprus and was so glad I had plenty of unread books on my Kindle. However, I still downloaded a couple of books about the Cyprus problems which were so helpful in gathering the background information, especially about the Ghost Town of Famagusta as the hotel was on the very edge of this sixkilometre stretch of hotels, stores and homes all deserted since the split between Northern Cyprus and South Cyprus. This has been the situation since 1974, in fact I was in Cyprus on the Saturday of July 12th, 1974, only briefly for refuelling as I was returning to the UK after a year in Malawi. I had been chatting to a journalist from the BBC who had been under house arrest in Blantyre, she told me she was so looking forward to having a two-week holiday in Cyprus. I have often wondered how she coped with all the troubles that started that Sunday. Hence my enthusiasm for gaining even more information. I had read a super book by Victoria Hislop called “The Sunrise” quite a few years previously, only to find that our tour guide advised reading this book to give us a real understanding of the heartbreak and devastating losses on both sides.
Quite a few of those on our tour, downloaded the book enabling us to have sympathies with all those affected. One late afternoon, whilst sitting in the sun, drinking some chilled wine, we started to discuss books we had read. As the majority of hotel guest were German, the only books available were in German, hence some of our group really regretting the fact they hadn’t packed any. So we shared a wonderful time of sharing reflections and memories of our favourite books. A quite elderly pilot was amazed that I was a great fan of Neville Shute books that I had started reading in my teens. On reflecting on these conversations, I wondered if we jumped ahead sixty or more years to 2083 what would the teenagers of 2023 be discussing?
When I was teaching Primary Children, I always enjoyed reading stories especially if they were historical, hopefully to enthuse the love of books and history. I found a great story by Dick King -Smith called “Lady Daisy”. The story was about a young boy who finds an old doll in his grandmother’s loft. When he stands the doll up her eyes open and she talks to him. The doll, Daisy had been stored in this loft from when the little girl she belonged to had died of Scarlet Fever. The boy has to explain his world to the doll who had been asleep since 1901. How would we explain the changes in our world 2023 to someone from 1801?
I would love to travel back in time and ask so many questions, what questions would you ask and in which period of time? Food for thought.

Despite poor weather there were a number of competitions that were competed for in March.
Yvonne Goodchild and Gill Barke won the Australian Spoons competition with 31 points which was quite an achievement as the weather was challenging.
Rosie Jackson won the individual stableford competition with 37 points and then combined with Debbie Bridges to win the Centenary Bowl with 39 points (see photo). In the mixed social foursomes (alternate shots) Di Cunningham and Ian Woodhead took top honours with 38 points. Newton Green ladies have also played in two friendly matches against Ipswich and the Essex with a good time had by all. With improving weather the ladies are hoping that their packed calendar of events will enjoy some better weather.
