Third Annual Gayford Flyer Hadleigh Cycling Club’s third annual sportive attracted 188 riders to the town on 10th September. The sportive is named “The Gayford Flyer” in recognition of the town’s world record breaking aviator, Oswald Gayford. Mike Motteram, Chair of the Club said, “It was terrific to see so many riders, especially those that had never attempted 60 miles before. The feedback has been very positive. “The Flyer is a team effort and we couldn’t have carried it off without Benson, Chris, Phil, Farhad, Lucy, Kate, Rickaby, Colin, Kevin, Martin, Trudi, Molly, Deborah, Tracy, Gale, Paul H, Tori, Jack, Paul S, Steph, Claire, Simon, Phil, Nick, Julian, Lee, Ken, Maureen, Matt, Adam and Rob and the cake bakers.” Mike also thanked the Flyer’s sponsors - The Pedal House, The George, Sunny Day Cycleworks, The East of England Co-op, Crockatt Garage and Rattlesden Gliding Club. The Club will make a donation to local charity, Brendan Oakes Trust. There was a raffle for Prostate Cancer UK which raised £193. Paul Spraggons is riding the first stage of the Tour de France in 2018 and has set up a donation page - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tourdespraggs. Riders are invited to gentle social rides starting at 8am from The George on Sundays, weather permitting. Adults and “capable children accompanied by an adult” are all welcome. The distance is around 25 miles. Check out our Facebook page. We also run more informal rides on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information on the Club visit www.hadleighcyclingclub.co.uk

What a lovely summer holiday we have had here at Whatfield CEVCP School. We have been celebrating the achievements of our year 6 pupils – all of whom managed to achieve the expected standards for the end of Primary school, with individuals achieving exceptionally well when compared with the nation! Unfortunately as a small school our numbers do not get published nationally, but are very proud of the progress they made, which puts us in the top 5% nationally for reading and writing, and the top 25% nationally for maths. We are also celebrating the amazing achievement of a School Games Gold award. This is a prestigious award which we work towards each year. For a small school to achieve this is extremely rare, and it represents a lot of hard work from the pupils and staff, as well as support from our parents, who are often asked to ferry pupils around to tournaments and festivals. The new reception pupils have settled very well into our school routine. At playtimes they dress in luminous builders jackets, which aids good supervision, and which they really love to wear.

It can be a lottery selling or letting your house... but with these six numbers we’re sure to find you a winner

Thank You

Thank You to everybody who answered our plea for help in the July Newsletter and voted for the Shelley Centre for Therapeutic Riding to receive a grant from the Masonic Charitable Foundation. As a result, our charity received the greatest number of votes and is therefore being awarded the maximum grant of ÂŁ25,000! This is an amazing amount of money which will now enable us to get several much-needed projects underway so that we can continue to benefit the health and wellbeing of adults and children with disabilities through riding therapies. A huge thank you from the riders, volunteers and ponies to everybody who voted for us - we genuinely could not have achieved this without your support - THANK YOU!

Artist, sculptor and one time resident, Maggi Hambling, made a welcome return to Hadleigh to take part in the Festival of Gardening and Art which celebrated the life and work of Sir Cedric Morris. As Maggi had been a student at Sir Cedric’s school of painting at Benton End in the 60’s she was the obvious choice to come and speak about the man, his centre of art and his influence on her own work. Happily for the Festival organisers she kindly agreed to return. Speaking before a full audience in the Guildroom, Jonathan Benson, associate director at auctioneers’ Reeman and Dansie, posed the questions and then let Maggi entertain with anecdotes and illustrations of life at this avant garde centre of art and gardening. As feisty and forthright as ever her stories were much enjoyed and well received. Maggi’s talk was the last item on the Festival programme before the grand finale at St Mary’s. Since its launch at the Hadleigh Show there has been a variety of themed events on offer including creative workshops, a magical picnic, guided walks, a ‘local’ gardeners’ question time, competitions, a film, concert and more. The grand finale reflected Sir Cedric’s love of art, gardening and sense of fun with an art and textile exhibition and an amazing display of over 100 decorated bras to raise money for Cancer Awareness UK. Festival organisers, Jane Haylock, Jane Snowdon and Jan Devey wish to say a big thank you to all who supported the Festival in so many different ways.

Fed up with hard water and lime scale? Fitting a water softener will save you money and time

REGISTERED PLUMBERS

East Anglia has some of the hardest water in Great Britain. The scale build up on shower screens and taps, that ring of scum in the basin, and limescale in kettles are some of the visible consequences of hard water. We have to resort to using large amounts of washing powder, conditioner, extra salts in the dish washer and expensive bathroom cleaning products to overcome the dreaded scale. In my professional capacity I’ve replaced countless appliances that should have had a longer service life. Scale blocks water ways in boilers and hot water pipes. Heating elements in hot water cylinders and electric showers get encrusted and fail. All these problems can be solved by fitting an ion exchange water softener. Laundered clothes will feel softer, after showering your skin will feel smoother, you’ll use far less detergents and the adverse effects on your plumbing system will start to reverse. If you would like to know more, give me a call. I’m happy to show you a simple 15 minute demonstration and provide an installation survey. A typical installation can be done in one day. The Big Bouquet: The Fidelis contribution to the Festival of Gardening and Art finale “The Big Bouquet” was a wall hanging of the same name. Following a morning workshop and some homework, members created a variety of Suffolk puffs from unwanted floral material. These were then attached to an appropriate remnant from upholsterer Les Hymas, to create a large bouquet of blooms. Several bras from local charity shops were revamped for the Bra Ha Ha – An Uplifting Exhibition in aid of Cancer Awareness UK. All in all a worthy re-cycling exercise with a delightful wall hanging for posterity. Life in Our Schools: If teachers need humour in order to survive then it’s no wonder that our last speaker, Brian Carline, was in the profession for over thirty years. His talent for seeing the funny side of life in school and then successfully relating his experiences to his audience was remarkable. Members thoroughly enjoyed his, often touching, anecdotes about his pupils, staff and sometimes himself. It was obvious that Brian was passionate about his work, sensitive to the needs of his students and colleague but still able to infuse his long career with humour. Brian Carline There was a record turnout for this truly and Lin Slaughter entertaining evening. JD

Thank You To the people of Hadleigh and surrounding villages, from the family of Lee Patrick Day who passed away on 5th August aged just 45, our thanks to you all for care, love and understanding at Lee’s passing. We as a family were deeply touched by your lovely comments about a quiet and lovely man who would have been a little embarrassed by all the love that the town showed. The service for Lee was held at the United Reformed Church to a full house. Nigel led the service and delivered a wonderful and beautiful tribute, to all of you, your singing was amazing. A few people to thank, to Nigel for his help and guidance, Pat for looking after Lesley, Rose Bud flower shop for all your help and Sarah for the lovely poem. To the team at Kingsbury & Saunders for so much care and giving us time on this difficult day. To the staff at Sue Ryder for your kindness. To the committee, supporters and staff of Hadleigh United Football Club, Lee’s second home, we thank you for the minutes applause in his memory. To Donna for the lovely food, well done. Lastly a huge thanks, from all of Lee’s family, to Mandy the lady we first met at the undertakers, without your help and understanding the family would of struggled to put this together. From all of us many thanks to you all

Hadleigh Healing Society We have all seen and read in the newspapers the horrific damage done by hurricanes, floods and earthquakes in various parts of the world. One cannot imagine what it must be like to lose your home, possessions and have just the clothes you stand up in. These things can be replaced in time but not the loss of family, friends and neighbours. Our hearts go out to those affected in this way. Everyone has their own personal problems to overcome at times and if you feel the need to talk to someone who will just listen and not make any judgements please share your problems with our qualified, registered healers. There is a saying “a problem shared is a problem halved . If you need to talk please telephone 01473 823282 (answer machine) or log onto www.hadleighhealingsociety.org and we will listen.

Two problems have been worrying a number of our clients, typically early middle aged parents with the house in joint names, a mortgage on course for repayment, children setting up their own families and grandchildren starting to arrive. Some of the clients said ‘how do we save our home from being taken away from our family to pay for care costs’. The question from the others was ‘we have previous marriages but want to protect the interests of the children from our first marriages’. These are classic situations which stem from worries about paying for care and from families becoming more diverse, with children from an earlier marriage needing to be recognised in their parents’ wills. There is a similar solution to both problems which involves the use of simple trusts to achieve the objectives. Before we discuss this, two examples illustrate the problems and pitfalls in more detail. Clients say that they would like their house to be put in their childrens’ names. We refuse to do that, pointing out that if the son or daughter or their partner pledged the house and then got into financial trouble, that could mean the loss of the parents’ family home. A similar problem is where older clients want to put the house in their childrens’ names just before one of the parents has to be means tested for care home provision. This is dangerous territory, because if the care authority can show that the transfer was a deliberate deprivation of assets it can treat the person as if they still owned the asset. The solution? Deal with the matter long before care home time arrives. I will give a brief outline of how we approach these problems, but each one is different and requires its own detailed solution. Our scheme is straightforward, and since it is becoming so popular with our clients I thought more people might like to know about it. We start by making an online enquiry to the Land Registry to find out the type of the clients’ ownership – whether this is ‘joint’ or ‘in common’ and then deal with the paperwork to ensure that it is confirmed by the Land Registry as ‘in common’. Many wills disregard this process, and where wills by joint tenants leave everything to each other a bequest of the family home (whoever might be named as the beneficiary) is irrelevant because the property passes directly to the other joint tenant, whatever the will might say. Once we have taken action to ensure that ownership is in common (a simple process with nominal cost) the co-owners will then have their own stake in the property, typically 50 : 50 although this may vary if there has been an unequal contribution to the cost of the property. Next, the wills are prepared, under which each spouse or partner typically leaves their (let’s say) 50% stake to a trust for their children or grandchildren or divided between them. Importantly, the will maker also gives the surviving partner the right to continue living for the rest of their life in the family home under what is known as a life tenancy. The life tenant will commit to paying outgoings, insuring the property and keeping it in repair. The arrangement can include downsizing, and an agreement about the manner in which any cash difference on downsizing is to be divided between the life tenant and the will maker’s other beneficiaries. This scheme provides two huge advantages. First, ‘severing’ the joint tenancy (as it is called) into ‘in common’ ownership means that the interests of the children of a first marriage can be protected, despite any efforts by the husband’s (or wife’s) next choice of partner to upset those arrangements. Secondly, willing your share of the property eliminates it in practice from the care home means test provided this is done long enough before there is any chance of it being caught by the deprivation of assets legislation. The law dealing with care provision is ‘work in progress’. People are living longer than ever, the cost of care is escalating and the big question is ‘how can this cost be funded?’. The government’s current plan (which cannot be relied on) is for the second stage of the Care funding plans to be brought in by 2020. Meanwhile, people can tread carefully by taking the steps mentioned above to allay the two major concerns which I have highlighted. Trevor Dodwell, Director, The Will Business Ltd

Paediatric Physiotherapy – Q&A In September we introduced you to our newest member of the team, Paediatric Specialist Physiotherapist, Ruth Dunstone. A children’s physiotherapist specialises in treating children from birth up to the age of 18 and has the additional knowledge of childhood diseases with the expertise to assess and devise management programs suitable for varying stages of development. How can physiotherapy help children? Children are prone to different conditions and injuries to that of adults, often requiring a modified approach to management. It is a specialist area of physio as additional knowledge of such childhood conditions and child development is needed. Overall, the aim is to ensure that they meet their physical potential while encouraging an active lifestyle for health and wellbeing. What are the most common conditions that you treat? Anything from 'my child moves funny' to not meeting their development milestones or sports injuries. Most often though, it’s an issue with the legs, like tight muscles, pain or postural issues. When did you first discover that you wanted to be a children's physiotherapist? During my degree, I had two paediatric placements and I knew then I was 100% suited. Tell us about your experience in this field. I have worked with children for almost 9 years. I am currently working for NHS England with the Children's Physiotherapy team at Ipswich Hospital, but have previously worked in Gibraltar and at the Royal Hospital for Children, in Glasgow. I have a special interest in the early years and neurological problems. What do you find most rewarding in your work? There is never a dull day when you work with kids, they always surprise you and over the years I have been inspired by their resilience. What does Hadleigh Physio have to offer? When I first met Lottie and Will (owners) at the Hadleigh Show, they were incredibly warm and appeared dedicated to their profession. I like that it’s a family run business and they stand for the same principles I do. Importantly, the barn at Hadleigh Physio is a lovely big space to be able to assess children doing what they do best – playing. How can I find out more about the services that you offer? Please look at the website for more info and links or alternatively call/email with any questions. James Cartlidge writes Member of Parliament for South Suffolk Since being elected in 2015 I have been campaigning for a Sudbury bypass, and I am now asking you to join me in showing your support for this essential project. I sincerely believe that a relief road to the west of Sudbury is essential to alleviate the congestion which is damaging the historic centre of South Suffolk’s main market town. Economic development is curtailed and adjacent residents face high levels of pollution. Whilst Hadleigh still faces the issues around Benton Street, one shudders to think how gridlocked Hadleigh would be without the bypass we all now take for granted, but which I believe could bring similar relief to Sudbury. Let us not forget that an initial business case found that the cost-benefit ratio for the project is 3:1, demonstrating the enormous value it would add to our area. Moreover, the same report estimated that a bypass would reduce HGV movements through the centre of Sudbury by 60%. When the Roads Minister, Jesse Norman MP, visited Sudbury to look at the congestion that builds up in the heart of the town, it was made clear to me that strong local support will be absolutely vital for the future success of the project. As such, I have decided that a cross-party parliamentary petition, to be presented on the floor of the House of Commons, is the best way to formally document the support in Sudbury and the surrounding areas. The campaign already has the formal backing of Babergh and Braintree District Councils, Suffolk and Essex County Councils, New Anglia LEP and the Haven Gateway Partnership, but this is an opportunity for you to get behind the campaign. The petition is available to sign in Sudbury Town Hall and the Stevenson Centre in Great Cornard, plus shops around Sudbury including Winch and Blatch, Kestrel Bookshop and Javelin Men’s Clothing. A full list of locations can be found at www.jamescartlidge.com alongside the online petition which residents can sign directly. We will also be running stalls on market hill on Saturday 7th October and Saturday 21st October. I would be most grateful for your support.

A note from the Head teacher Thank you to parents for all of your support last academic year. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who worked so hard at all the different tasks and assessments they were asked to complete. We were particularly proud of our year 6 pupils, whose results last academic year were well above the national average at 81% for Reading, Writing and Maths combined (nationally it was 61%) and 90% for GPS (nationally it was 77%). What with this news and the “Good” Ofsted report, we are all proud to be members of the Bildeston School community, and hope you are too. We wish all our leavers well as they embark on a new journey at Hadleigh High School. Some of them have already visited us after their first week back and tell us that they are happy and have settled well. We have also had ten new reception children start at Bildeston who have all settled very well in Goldcrest class. Ebony’s Blog Life at The Shelley Centre

For Quality & Personal Service FENSA from Start to Finish

Its THANK YOU time from all of us at The Shelley Centre to all of you, and your contacts, who voted for us in the Freemasons Charitable Foundation grant application this summer. Thanks to the number of on-line clicks we received, this charity was awarded the maximum £25,000 available for our region. We are just thrilled to bits. I think I’ve already mentioned part of the plan for using this wonderful boost to our capital: relaying the surface of the yard behind the stable block, where 20+ years of use by horses, ponies and rabbits has rendered it quite horrible. Work has begun already, Mr Chisnell’s team moved in on 8th September to re lay the surface for us, as the photos show. Funnily enough, this won’t stop the Fund Raising team from ploughing on! Their next event is an evening of Dancing to the music of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, supplied by The Sound Brigade in Nayland Village hall on October 28th. There will be a bar and raffle, and the ticket price of £17.50 includes a two course dinner. Ring my Aunty Di on 01473 658 552 for details, this sounds like a great night out. My other picture shows two competitors enjoying the September Sponsored Ride. I wish I could have gone too, but I’m firmly anchored to my base. I just have to imagine what fun everyone had, especially when they got to the pub at the half-way point! More grateful thanks to participants, organisers, volunteers, land owners and the weather for making it a great event. Website: www.rda-east.org.uk/shelley.html Telephone: 01473 824172

Level of “never events” at NHS Trusts prompt concerns from patient groups

Patient safety groups have expressed concern after a near record number of serious avoidable incidents were recorded by the NHS last year. Surgery on the wrong part of the body, unnecessary procedures following cases of mistaken identity, foreign objects left behind after a procedure and patients falling out of windows were just a few of the so-called ‘never events’ recorded by the NHS last year. There were 424 of these incidents in 2016/17 – a figure described as “disturbingly high” by campaign groups, who say the same mistakes are being made time and time again. Among the litany of errors were 18 operations on the wrong knee and several cases where oral medicine was administered intravenously. Diana Infanti – Partner Misplaced vaginal swabs were a common problem across the health service with 31 cases recorded, while 42 procedures on the wrong tooth took place. On four occasions, doctors operated on the wrong patient altogether. As well as medical mishaps, three patients fell from improperly restricted windows, and in three cases a patient’s neck or chest became trapped in their bed rails. The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), of which Gotelee is a member, warned that lessons were not being learned – and urged hospitals to own up to failings to prevent cases being dragged through the courts. APIL President Brett Dixon said: “All too often, the same failures are repeated. Each never event ought to be treated as a red flag indicating a palpable threat to patient safety, yet more than twice a week someone has a foreign object left inside them, including broken drill bits, surgical needles, swabs, and bags used for the retrieval of specimens.” Peter Walsh, Chief Executive of Action Against Medical Accidents, added: “Never events by definition are perfectly avoidable incidents which often cause serious harm or death. The number of them that are being reported remains disturbingly high.” A spokesman for NHS Improvement, which oversees hospitals, said: “Organisations are expected to investigate and learn from mistakes, and the fact that more and more NHS staff take the time to report incidents is good evidence that this learning is happening locally.” How can Gotelee help? The NHS is held in the highest regard in the UK – and rightly so. But when mistakes are made and the duty of care to which patients are entitled is not met, it’s important to hold the health service to account. Making a claim could result in financial help to deal with the consequences of an error and could go some way to ensuring the same mistake isn’t repeated. How can we help? Gotelee has a wealth of experience in this area and can advise you whether or not you have the basis of a claim. If you do, we can support you through the process at any of our offices in Hadleigh, Ipswich, Felixstowe, Woodbridge or Melton. To find out more, call us on 01473 298180 or email diana.infanti@gotelee.co.uk

Running the race.... Are you a sprinter, a jogger, an avid spectator or not really interested? Perhaps you were willing Sir Mo Farah on with every stride at the World Athletic Championships, or straining for the finishing tape with Usain Bolt - or maybe you just switched to another channel? There is one race which none of us can ignore, whether the starting pistol has just fired or we're on the finishing straight - the race of life..... Some attack it from the get-go and maintain a furious pace throughout. Others meander along, seeming to barely break into a sweat. Whatever our style or personality may be, Jesus invites us to run that race with him. He is the greatest coach, who guides, encourages and challenges us, who lifts us up when we fall and celebrates every success we may have. And, if we choose to "run" with him, Jesus will be right there at the finishing line to welcome us with open arms to the greatest victory celebration of all - our victory over death itself. Thinking ahead Sorry to mention this, but I have been thinking about Christmas for the last few weeks. This is largely because, as much as possible, I try to make the presents that I will give. I have always enjoyed creative crafts and my sisters and I were encouraged to paint, sew, cut, stick and the such as much as we liked, as children. I have carried this on into my adult life (with a brief hiatus during the standard teenage phase, I’m sure) and even sell a few pieces on my online shop and at craft fayres. It pleases me to see that craft seems to be making a comeback (not that I ever felt it really went away) but it does seem to have become quite fashionable again. There are new craft programmes on television, there are plenty of local venues that offer courses in skilled crafts and provide places for people of all ages and abilities to try something creative. There is a kind of meditative calm involved in creating something with your hands which is wellknown to be beneficial to mental and emotional health. The explosion in enthusiasm for adult colouring books took me by surprise at first, and yet what a lovely way to zone out for a while and allow the brain to switch off and relax for a moment. Making something for someone specifically in mind gives an opportunity to show that you have really thought about them through the process of creating. I know not everyone can or wants to and there is nothing wrong with that in the least because, you can instil the same essence by thoughtfully picking out a gift to give. We all have so much these days and it is so easy to mass buy – often things that are not needed or wanted and just because they are there, or cheap or on offer but I can’t help thinking that the more thought we put in to what we give someone, the nicer the feeling we get as well as our recipient. There are many independent shops, craft markets and homemade stores both physical and online, there is more opportunity than ever to find something thoughtfully unique. Perhaps this year, less really can be more – which will really be the case for me if I don’t crack on with my making.

Are you on your own or perhaps have not travelled for several years for whatever reason? Would you like to travel but have lost confidence in doing so? Would you like to enjoy the company of fellow travellers but not all the time? If you have answered ‘Yes’ to these questions, the Travel Stop 2018 Escorted Cruise from Southampton may be just the answer. On 23rd September 2018, Travel Stop, your local independent travel agency, will be hosting their annual Escorted Cruise from Southampton to the Canaries and the Azores. This 14-night cruise also includes the beautiful island of Madeira and some privately arranged shore excursions, exclusive to the group. This no-fly option will give you the company of others if you wish, or the independence of travelling alone but knowing you have a host throughout the entire time, should you need. You may chose to dine independently in the variety of restaurants onboard, or join other guests and enjoy the company of your hosts or fellow travelling companions during your evening dining experience. With no pressure whatsoever, enjoy the freedom to be totally flexible but to enjoy the benefits of some exclusive excursions on a smallgroup basis. Again, these will be privately escorted but operated independently of Celebrity Cruises, giving greater choice, availability and totally flexibility. In a nutshell, you can ‘dip in’ or ‘dip out’ to suit you. Alternatively, if you like the finer things in life, you’ll want to travel in style. And it doesn’t get much better than Jet Set Sail. From the Private Jet Terminal at Stansted Airport, enjoy complimentary valet parking and refreshments before taking a private charter flight to Europe, where your cruise ship awaits. You'll need to check in only 1 hour prior to departure, and the luxury continues onboard your flight, where you can look forward to modern leather seats, a complimentary meal with drinks service and a luggage allowance of 25kg. After touchdown in Europe, you’ll embark your cruise ship to indulge in an unforgettable holiday. Plus, book an eligible Ocean View Stateroom or above by 14 November 2017, on selected European Jet Set Sail sailings, and the second person only pays half the cruise fare – plus you’ll both enjoy a free Classic Drinks Package.* For further information on either Travel Stop’s Escorted Cruise departure, or any other Celebrity cruise (with or without the Jet Set Sail option), please call one of our offices below. Hadleigh Market goes from strength to strength The future of Hadleigh’s weekly market now looks much brighter after a year of successful new management which has seen a rise in the number of new traders. In 2016, Babergh undertook an engagement exercise on the future of Hadleigh Market which had been in decline for a few years. Despite having a Market Charter dating back to 1252 and a community loyal to its high Street, the Market had become reliant on just three regular traders. However, feedback received from local people last year, revealed a great deal of support for the Market and a desire to see more diversity on offer from traders including baked and artisan goods, specialty cheeses and seasonal offers to support and compliment the High Street shops. To help revive the market and fulfil the wishes of local people, Babergh teamed up with award winning local company, Suffolk Market Events and in just over a year, Hadleigh Market now boasts 8 regular stalls and additional ones that come on an occasional basis. The response to the new market has been so positive agreement has been reached between Babergh and Suffolk Market Events to extend the partnership for another two years. Justine Paul, Owner of Suffolk Market Events said, “I am absolutely delighted to be continuing my work with Babergh and Hadleigh market. Over the last twelve months significant improvements have been achieved at the town’s weekly market and I am really looking forward to working hard to continue to improve it further. The market now has a consistent number of top quality stalls serving the people of Hadleigh with a brilliant range of products but there is more than can be done and over the next two years, with the continued support of Babergh, we will strive to achieve even better things for the market. Cllr John Ward, Babergh District Council Cabinet Member for Economic Development said, “I am very pleased that Suffolk Market Events will continue to manage Hadleigh Market for the next two years. They have done an excellent job to increase the numbers of regular and occasional traders. Hadleigh is a growing town and deserves a flourishing market as an additional attraction to what is an excellent shopping experience. Hadleigh Market is held every Friday morning between 8am and 2pm on the Market Place, just off the High Street. For further information about the market or to enquire about having a stall at the market, please contact Justine Paul at justine@suffolkmarketevents.co.uk or call 07704 627973. I have just returned from our weeklong “goodwill Mission” to Belarus. Of the 20 people on the trip 7 came from Mid Suffolk. Everyone agreed without doubt; “no words, photographs or videos can truly give you the real picture”. All who took part enjoyed the trip although at times it was emotionally hard but still very rewarding. One of our group was only 12 years old but she was a great part of the team, joining in everything and helping wherever she could. Everyone commented what an amazing attitude she had and as we restructure and redefine our itinerates we hope that more young people will want to join us in the future. Four children will travel to the UK for a group visit in December. The girls will be aged between 9 and 12 years so we are very keen to receive donations of clothing to provide for them whilst they are here and to take home with them. Not only will the break be invaluable to their health, getting them away from the severe winter but they will also get to experience Christmas in the UK! For some of the less fortunate children we encountered on our travels we are again going to try to match them up with people in the UK who would like to send them a present at Christmas. Details and photographs of each child will be supplied together with a list of suggested small gifts. If you would like to be involved in this part of our program please get in touch with me as soon as possible as we need to start organising this now as it can take from 4 to 8 weeks for parcels to get to the children. Many thanks to all of those who continue to support us. Elizabeth Parker 01449 760343. www.ccllmidsuffolk.org.uk

Kersey Mill Newsletter September saw visits from Suffolk Centre Caravan Club who stayed for Heritage Open Days. We were pleased to be open for tours during “Heritage Open Days” with plenty of visitors who were privy to the latest stages of refurbishment on the Hurst frame. Heritage Open Days are coordinated nationally with the help of thousands of volunteers. The September event is an opportunity for private owners to allow free access for the public to see important historic buildings. Heritage assets of every age, style and function open their doors, ranging from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. The Suffolk Centre Caravan Club were staying here during Heritage week and took great advantage of the Mill being open and enjoyed their own private tour. Jaguar Day was well attended with a range of very special cars on view. Works to the restoration of the mill have continued. Further repairs to the Hurst Frame have been carried out with the horizontal beam that runs along the front edge spliced and now ready to be lifted into place this coming weekend. Sections like this are very heavy indeed and can only be manoeuvred slowly by using a combination of ropes, elbow grease and block and tackle in tandem. The tickets to Santa’s Workshop are now on sale via www.kerseymill.net. Or telephone reservations can be made 01473 829317. They are already in high demand with some dates sold out. Don’t delay in securing your child/s ticket for the most unique and wonderful Christmas adventure that every child will remember. Santa’s Workshop is set within the ground floor of the mill, with elves at work preparing for Christmas. The Mill building lends itself perfectly and is characteristic for the workshop, with noises of elves at work along with cogs & wheels turning, the sack hoist comes in useful for Santa to send the sacks of gifts up to the waiting elves ready to load in the sleigh. It’s not like your normal Santa’s grotto. We have many teenagers that have been involved and helped with running these events and we look forward to welcoming some of those again back this year. All funds raised are for the Restoration Fund and over the last 4 years we have seen huge progress on this. Thankyou everyone for your support.

Monday September 11th 2017 At our last meeting we welcomed back Rod Tibbs for his second visit this year. His theme this time covered the wide ranging subject of growing vegetables and how to make good compost. Rod focused in on a small selection of commonly grown veg for the dinner plate and we all learned from his experience and tried and tested methods. A good gardener is one who passes on his or her tips rather than keeping them a secret. Kate and Ray Banks won the competiton for the longest runner bean, and by some distance, with their entry being only an inch short of two feet we all checked for the joins and failed to find any! And next up on Monday October 9th We have something a little bit different next time when we welcome Peter Maddison who will be sharing his expertise on butterfly conservation. Why not come and join us? We are a friendly bunch and are always pleased to see new people come along. Peter's talk will commence at 7.30pm and the meeting will be held at Hadleigh Town Hall (entrance opposite The Ram). The cost is £3 for non- members and £1 for members, to include refreshments and, as always there will be a raffle (where Dave and Margaret have excelled themselves recently with their prize gathering). There are also bargains to be found on the plant stall and, appropriately for this season, the competition is a vase of Michaelmas daisies. We hope to see you there. Andy Leeder, Chairman

East Anglian Garden Group The new season is about to begin, on the 7th October, with the first of our autumn talks,’ Anything Silver’ by Howard Drury of Ashwood Nurseries. Howard was a presenter for ten years on Central TV’s Gardening Time, and is a consultant at the well-known Ashwood Nurseries. He will talk about silverleaved plants, and where they will flourish, and how to select the best ones for your garden. November 4th, is the AGM, and a good time to join the EAGG, if you have been thinking about it, as the subscriptions begin for the next year. Our speaker for the meeting will be Ken Thompson, with his talk ‘The Sceptical Gardener’. Author of No Nettles Required, An Ear To The Ground, and a regular column as The Sceptical Gardener in the Saturday Telegraph. He will be casting a quizzical eye on gardening topics including how bees improve strawberries, the difference between Spanish and English bluebells, compost tea, and how plants get sunburn! Also, at this meeting, EAGG life member, Barbara Segall, well known horticulturalist, columnist and author, will be signing copies of her exciting new book, Secret Gardens of East Anglia, with beautiful photography by the late Marcus Harpur, and published by Frances Lincoln. An ideal Christmas present for a garden enthusiast. Books can be ordered on line, and brought to the meeting to be signed, or can be ordered by EAGG for you, as long as we receive your order by 7th October. I am pleased to announce that our Celebrity Speaker for next year, on Saturday 17th February 2018 will be CLEVE WEST. His talk, entitled ‘Healing Gardens’ will describe his experiences in creating and working with the Horatio’s Garden for the spinal injuries unit at Salisbury Hospital. Cleve is a multiple Gold Medal winner at Chelsea, Best in Show Awards 2011 and 2012 and inveterate allotmenteer, (My Plot, published by Frances Lincoln). We expect a high demand for tickets as he rarely gives talks, and the venue will be announced once we have found a hall to hold everyone. Ticket prices will be £7.50 for members, and £12.50 for non-members. £2.50 from each ticket will be donated to the Horatio’s Garden Charity. Annual subscriptions cost only £12, and this gives you free entry to all the talks for the up- coming season (with the exception of the Celebrity talk), nonmembers are welcome at £5 per visit, so it is much better value to join us!! We have a plant and book stall at the meetings, and free tea, coffee and cakes are served after the speaker has finished, giving members an opportunity to talk to other gardeners and enjoy some social time. Full details of next seasons talks will be found on the website, and any queries regarding membership or book orders can be dealt with by our secretary Matt Long on 01449 741551. eastangliangardengroup.onesuffolk.net

Down to Earth ...with Dave What a difference in the weather from last September. The mornings and evenings are, to say the least, a bit chilly with more than enough rain to keep the water butts in the garden topped up, handy when you are on a water meter. The plan to have dahlias following on from the gladioli on the allotment has really worked well, with masses of flowers being taken home for the ever improving patient after her very successful knee replacement. Mobility is still a bit of a problem for her, but we did manage to get away for a few days to see the end of the pier show at Cromer. This very traditional live variety show is said to be the only end of the pier show left in the world, and was a couple of hours of fun and dance - well worth the trip. While we were in Norfolk we visited Oxburgh Hall, one of the smaller National Trust properties. As always I had a browse in the second hand book shop for any old gardening books and I came across one by Michael Barratt called' Down to earth gardening'. For many years he was the question master for Gardeners' Question Time, and this small book is a collection of tips and humour from various sources. First published in 1974 a lot of the content is still relevant today. One chapter on propagation mentions visitors taking crafty cuttings. You think they have gone to powder their nose, when in fact they are in your greenhouse taking the top shoots off your prize pelargoniums. I find that you only have to ask and fellow gardeners are only too pleased to give you a cutting of their prized plant. Our garden is full of such gifts. On returning home the strong wind had broken some bits off the lemon scented geraniums. These were promptly converted to cuttings and should give new plants for next year. Now is also a good time to take softwood cuttings of many plants, including fuchsia, penstemon, hydrangea, salvia etc. Use a very gritty mix of compost. Select young strong shoots that are still green, not woody, trim below a leaf node, remove the lower leaves, insert the cuttings around the edge of the pot and put the pots in a warm bright spot, but not in direct sun. Water well and as soon as little white roots appear then pot them on. With luck you could have lots of new plants next year. September is a good time to kill moss in your lawn. Use a feed, weed and moss killer, apply sparingly with an appropriate wheeled applicator, ideally when rain is due within a few days. After a few days the moss will turn black and can be removed with a spring tine rake. Don't put the first couple of lawn mowings on the compost as they will contain weed killer residues which will stay in the compost. As well as being a fan of Monty on Gardeners' World, I also enjoy The Beechgrove Garden. This is set in Scotland and is broadcast on BBC2 early Sunday morning. It is more down to earth, with topics more suited to vegetable growing. Give it a try. That's all for now, Dave

No Strings Dining Out Congratulations to all those who attended the initial meeting of “No Strings -Dining out”. We had a most pleasant evening with congenial company and, we hope, made a lot of new friends. One brave man joined us! We were able to arrange a further evening meal at a local hostelry and look forward to many more in the future. An extra will be a luncheon locally every two months. We also decided to meet once a month, just for a drink, at the King’s Head, whose hospitality was most appreciated. Thanks to Cailen from the pub, for the photo. This month I thought it might interest some readers to have a better understanding of the kind of topics that we cover at our meetings and you never know it might encourage you to come and join us. During August, the topic of ‘Grief Triggers’ was one our members could identify with leading to lots of discussion and sharing of experiences. What we mean by a ‘grief trigger’ is anything that provokes memories related to loss. Sometimes it can be something obvious and easy to anticipate like a birthday, piece of music or a smell. However, a trigger can be more surprising and may catch us unawares such as spotting someone who reminds us of the person we have lost. Triggers are perfectly normal but can be troublesome because they may open the floodgate for memories that pop into our heads almost randomly provoking a wide range of emotions that take us back to the overwhelming pain of loss. Learning to express the emotional pain a trigger may produce can be a way of lessening its power. Anticipating a ‘trigger’ and its likely emotional aftermath and talking about it over and over can often help. Memories of course can be positive too and are how our loved ones continue to live on within us. In time, even the very ‘grief triggers’ that caused sadness can be replaced by a sense of love and remembrance. For more details come and see Margaret and Patrick Palmer at the SBS Pop Up Information Event on Tuesday 3/10/17 11am-3pm at Hadleigh Library or please contact us and we will be very pleased to help: www.suffolkbereavement.org.uk; sbsg246@gmail.com; 01206 299832.

New Total Diet Replacement Range From Cambridge Weight Plan Last summer Cambridge Weight Plan launched a completely reformulated range of meal replacement products to comply with EU legislation – a process which started before the UK voted to leave the EU. Since then, due to further changes in legislation, and Brexit, Cambridge have been busy redeveloping a small range of Total Diet Replacement products. These have a lower calorie level – around 150kcals per product - but – they still provide the full complement of nutrients, hence the name Total Diet Replacement. It comprises 8 products – 4 shakes (banana, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla, 1 soup (chicken & mushroom), 1 porridge and 2 bars (lemon yoghurt and peanut crunch). As well as being tasty and convenient, you can be confident you’re getting optimum nutrition for minimum calories. They are designed to provide 100% nutrition (3 or 4 products a day) without any conventional food, meaning speedy weight loss. As your weight loss journey progresses, you will gradually increase your daily calorie level by switching to the Meal Replacement products (all around 200kcals) and reintroducing some meals according to which step you move to after discussion with your Consultant. The Steps Plan has been carefully researched to ensure it is nutritionally balanced. It works because it focuses on more than just losing weight. It offers a combination of Cambridge Weight Plan products and everyday food choices, which will help you to build a better relationship with food. This means that you can maintain the weight you want, long after you’ve reached it. If you’d like help to give your body a boost and lose some weight (average weight loss is a stone a month*) into the bargain why not try Cambridge Weight Plan..? Research has proven that dieters are more successful with support. Ken’s SESAW News Suffolk & Essex Small Animal Welfare Reg charity no 1124029

Brrr! We all enjoy an early morning run around the field but those of us who are “vertically challenged” come in with a very damp undercarriage! And not only us dogs, recently arrived Rupert the baby pig squeals in disgust when the grass is wet! You should have seen Button’s face when the little porker first arrived and chased her around Mum’s legs. Our resident Norfolk Terrier was not impressed! I’m so pleased 15 year old Billy, a Jack Russell cross, has found a lovely foster home with a great big garden. Mum is hoping for another happy ending, but this time for Erica and her five kittens. Some mean person dumped the poor pregnant puss but she and her litter are safe with us now and waiting for new homes. Meanwhile the kitchen still resembles a wildlife sanctuary with lots of birds receiving regular TLC, much to Ollie’s disgust! The fundraisers are looking forward to meeting lots of you at our £1 in the Ansell Centre, Hadleigh, IP7 5DL, 11-2pm on 14th October. After that is the Christmas Fair at The Old School, Long Melford on 19th November. That reminds me to remind you – make sure you keep your pets safe before and during Bonfire Night. As the 5th is a Sunday, people might set celebrate early, maybe even at Halloween, so please be prepared. I can’t impress upon you enough how scary fireworks are to all animals, including me, Kenny (the Boss) Chihuahua. Autumnal aches and pains by Hadleigh Osteopaths Autumn is most definitely upon us, and there are certain jobs and events that often result in the phone ringing for help and advice at Hadleigh Osteopaths. The cold damp weather can make old aches and pains reappear, and the darker evenings and misty days often result in a reduction of sporting activities enjoyed through the warm summer days and long evenings. The gardeners amongst us will be busy tidying and cutting back. This can be a rewarding time, as order is restored and the fruits of the summer displays have gone over. It is, however, tempting just to keep working, when common sense might dictate that jobs done in shorter bursts may result in fewer injuries. The ground is heavy at this time of year, so digging is harder work. We often see people who have spent an entire Sunday out in the fresh air in the garden or out on the allotment, who then collapse into a chair, and can’t move the next day because their back has seized up. Common causes of neck and shoulder complaints at this time of year include pruning high branches, raking leaves, and bringing heavy pots in to protect them from frost. It is better to vary your tasks, and set realistic goals for what you hope to achieve. Empty you pots of soil and compost before trying to move them, or place them on casters to make moving them easier. Early November brings a flurry of unexplained low back and neck pain. This can often be traced back to bonfire night. Standing in a field looking up at fireworks for an hour can exacerbate a grumbling low back or a mildly arthritic neck. Placing a small child on your shoulders is often another contributing factor! Make sure you do some gentle shoulder rolling exercises and tuck your chin to your chest to stretch the muscles at the back of your neck and shoulders. If you have an injury and you are not sure whether osteopathic treatment can help, please feel free to call in or telephone the practice. You do not need a referral from your doctor, and treatment is often covered by private medical insurers. All our practitioners are fully qualified and registered with the General Osteopathic Council. If you would like to know whether Osteopathy can help you, please feel free to visit our website at www.hadleighosteopaths.co.uk or telephone the practice on 01473 828585 Mobile 07770 746224. French’s Care Haven and Care Farm French’s yearly Quiz is Saturday 7th October 7pm at Boxford village hall, including Fish & Chip supper. Tickets £12, which must be booked in advance for catering purposes. Diana Witts and Mandy Flather along with their families do a fantastic job every year organising and holding our quiz night and it is always an enjoyable fun evening. The money raised is so very important to us, as we get little financial help running our local animal rescue Charity and value those few people who are kind enough to donate monthly to our worthy cause. We are hoping for another good turnout this year to help pay for some of our monthly feed, farrier and vet bills. As I have spoken about in the past in my news letter, we also help people who have problems in their lives with mental health, which includes those who have a lack of confidence in social areas. One of the groups we help are young people who have been out of work for over a year, French’s is presently working with Community Action Suffolk on one of their projects. Enclosed is a photo of Richard their team leader and two of the youngsters who are being helped, by gaining skills in gardening and painting at French’s. If you have anyone you know who may benefit from spending some time at French’s or are part of an organisation that we could work together with, please give me a call. With winter fast approaching it is a time for us to prepare for the tough slog it takes looking after all our animals in grim weather conditions, our day is spent keeping all our animals as warm as we can and giving them a lot more food to eat for keep weight and condition on. You have to be hardy and or passionate to stay on board and make it through the winter months in this type of job, as there is not much joy in freezing or getting soaked outside all day long, 7 days a week, but someone has to do it. I have been working outside like this for 44 years now professionally and it never gets easier, Just like our cat Hercules, I am getting older and my body hates the cold, I tend to look like an Eskimo when outside in the winter. I am looking to start some new projects and one of them will include growing of plants and vegetables, I do not have a clue, so would need to and love to have someone who can spare a few hours a week to guide those who will be involved and pass on some of their knowledge. I cannot do this without the help of someone who knows their stuff in the garden, so this is a call out for help, please get in touch with me, I would love to hear from you. If you have some spare time to get involved and possibly learn new fund raising skills that you maybe never knew you had, or show us what you know to work, then get in touch with me, let’s meet and I will introduce you to our animals and the young people who have had confidence problems that we help, we would love to see you see you. Bespoke Nutrition I know it is autumn because I have my first Hot Stone Reflexology treatment booked in this afternoon. If you have not tried Hot Stone Reflexology yet this is a great time to start. The heat from the basalt stones which are made from volcanic rock is transferred to the muscles in the feet. This warming effect relaxes the soft tissue which allows me to work the reflexes at a deeper level. Hot Stone Massage can be the perfect relaxing antidote to today’s busy lifestyle. The direct heat of the stones relaxes and warms your tired aching muscles, allowing the therapist access to your deeper muscle layers. Hot Stone massage clients can notice a healing improvement in the following symptoms: Muscular aches, pains and sprains, Circulation improvement, Rheumatic and arthritic relief, Back pain, Stress levels. The stones are moved in a certain way to produce energy within the body. So much of our modern day lives zap our energy levels so this is a nice way to put a little back and create balance in the body. I am offering Reflexology at a discounted price of £25 and Hot Stone Reflexology at £30 throughout October. Coming Soon: I will be adding HIFU facial treatments to my list of therapies in the coming weeks. All of the 3D Lipo Med treatments are non-invasive and painless. This latest technology involves the removal of body fat and cellulite and also skin tightening treatments. This is done using a combination of ultra sound, radio frequency and cryolipolysis (fat freezing) the results are both immediate and ongoing. This is a great motivational way to improve your appearance and change your lifestyle. Clients can lose pockets of unwanted fat. People who have lost weight are often left with areas with are impossible to target with diet and exercise alone. There is something here for everyone. Want to remove unsightly cellulite or drop a dress size for a wedding or a holiday this is the therapy for you. Dominic Littlewood cuts the ribbon at new SEH BAC showroom

Hadleigh Hairloom Walk In Family Salon

TV star and consumer rights champion Dominic Littlewood has helped local home improvement specialists SEH BAC kick off a blockbuster opening day for their brand-new Colchester showroom. The personality known for his hit shows ‘Cowboy Builders’ and ‘Don’t Get Done Get Dom’ officially opened the firm’s new 5,000 square-foot ‘Centre of Excellence’ at Stanway Retail Park on Peartree Road. With help from the Heart FM Angels, visitors were greeted with a champagne reception before exploring the range of windows, doors and conservatories on display. “We are absolutely delighted with the success of our Grand Opening, which certainly lived up to its billing,â€? comments SEH BAC Managing Director, John Savage. “We are so grateful for Dom Littlewood’s help in what was a landmark day for us as we opened our sixteenth showcentre in the region.â€? “We have always seen showrooms as an important part of our business because they allow homeowners to see in-person the different home improvement options available to them and talk to a team of experts who can answer any questions they have. We’ve gone one step further with our new Colchester showroom introducing a dedicated ‘advice centre’ and a number of interactive enhancements.â€? “It seems our approach is popular with the new showroom bursting with visitors on its opening day, over 50 appointments booked with our team and a number of high-value sales. Home improvements are a big decision, and we want to give homeowners complete confidence whichever solution they choose.â€? A subsidiary of Suffolk-based One Group Construction, a ÂŁ130m turnover group of companies that carry out major infrastructure and construction projects, SEH BAC has been operating for 45-years, helping homeowners across the South-East, East Anglia and the Home Counties renovate their properties. Along with windows, doors and conservatories, the firm also offers a range of orangeries, single storey extensions and replacement conservatory roofs. Hadleigh Hares race Internationally European Sprint Triathlon Championships at Dßsseldorf Elizabeth Stewart's race started with a 750m open water swim, exiting the water on a horrid climb up steep slippery steps. The bike leg was on closed roads, light rain made them very slippery but Elizabeth managed to pull off a strong fast ride. The last leg was a 5k run consisting of two pleasant laps along the side of the river. Finishing time 1.24:44 swim 13.27 bike 38.00 run 27.12. Elizabeth said "My total time was 1:24:44 putting me 8th in Europe. As it was my first international event, and I didn’t know what to expect or do particularly well, especially because my training didn’t go to plan because I had my GCSE’s and my brother was in hospital. However, I have learnt a lot from this experience and it has given me confidence to aim to qualify for Glasgow in 2018." ITU Duathlon World Championships Penticton Canada Iain Johnston raced in the sprint distance duathlon. He had 2 really good runs and a great bike leg on which proved to be a difficult undulating course. The descents were terrifying but Iain pulled off a great race finishing 28th in his age category. Davina Greenwell raced in the standard distance duathlon. The course was relatively flat but there was a constant head wind in every single direction. Davina pulled off a great result with finishing 5th in her age category. Davina said "The whole team experience was great and I can’t wait to do it again as I automatically qualified for next years’ world champs in Denmark and also the European Championships in Ibiza." UCI Grand Fondo World Championships Albi France Three Hadleigh Hares travelled to Albi France to participate in the UCI world championships after achieving qualification at the Tour of Cambridge cycle race back in June. Trudy Avis and Steve Bowen raced on the 97 km circuit which had an undulating profile with 2 big climbs. Hydration was key in the race with temperatures reaching 35 degrees, both competitors were happy to reach the Albi Motor Racing Circuit to push for the finish line after giving it there all and coming away with brilliant results. Trudy - 02.57.54 hrs - 15th GB, 43rd World Steve - 03.25.26 hrs - 44th GB, 166th World Leon Hayward raced on the 155 km course, this was divided for the start and for the finish with the 97km route (ladies and over 60 men). The course tested all riders with having many ascents to climb especially in the heat. Leon was unfortunate that water had ran out at the final feed station but he managed to pull off a fantastic race with a time of 04.34.13 hrs - 37th GB 160th World.

New Comet Sun: 5th Rise 07.04 Set 18.24. 15th Rise 07.21 Set, 18.02. 30th Rise 06.48 Set 16.31. Moon: Full 5th. New 19th. The Planets Mars, Shines at magnitude 1.8 and moves from Leo into Virgo on the 12th. The Moon will be close-by on the 17th. Saturn, Shines at 0.5 magnitude in the evening sky. The planet is close to the Moon on the 24th. New Comet C/2017 01 (ASAS-SN) This comet was discovered on July 19th by the All Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae. The comet then was a very dim magnitude 15, meaning a large telescope would be required to see it. In just a few short days though it had brightened a hundred-fold, and rose to magnitude 10, meaning good binoculars could reveal it. This month should see the comet reach 8th magnitude which would allow it to be seen in even a modest pair of 10x50 binoculars. The comet is on a 11,500 year orbit, so it has not been seen before by humans, and it certainly won't be back again for at least this length of time again. It will be closest to the Sun, or perihelion, on October 14th at a distance of 1.5 AU or the orbital distance of Mars from the Sun. Four days later it makes its closest approach to Earth at 0.72AU. The comet passes close to the Pole Star, Polaris on December 6th, making it easy to locate. All being well, it should stay above magnitude 10 , and thus within binocular range until early January 2018. You can see that the comet appears as the green fuzzy ball in the centre of the image. The green hue is due to diatomic carbon within the coma (atmosphere) of the comet as it interacts with the Solar Wind released from the Sun. When viewed with your eye however, the comet will appear as a white smudge of light, this is because the human eye isn't as sensitive to green light waves as the modern photographic equipment . Should any of you reading this wish to view the comet, please do contact me and I will be delighted to show you this celestial ghost before it heads back out into the darkest depths of the Solar System. Until next month, Clear Skies. If you have any questions you wish answered, please contact me at, neilnorman03@gmail.com. Neil Norman. FRAS.

rhsglazin@hotmail.co.uk Once again, on Sunday 19th November 2017, Hadleigh Hares A.C. will be hosting their successful road races. We have been thrilled that the last two years have seen places for the Turners Blinds and Shutters 10 mile race and John Chisnall 5 mile race sell out before the day. There is a real love for running in East Anglia and our undulating race attracts runners from Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and further afield. Entries are open for the races via the Run Britain website and more information is found on our club website. It takes a lot of time and effort to run these races and as a small club we rely on all of our members to help out with the organisation and marshalling. We thank everyone for their support. If you would like to help with marshalling please contact hadleigh10@hadleighhares.co.uk. Hadleigh Physiotherapy support our Junior Fun Run, this is an approx. 2k run suitable for all ages. Starting at 10am, giving parents a chance to watch or run with their children before the adult races, the race is well marshalled and uses part of the river walk path as the course. Adults must run with children under six and we have prizes for the following age categories: 1st Boy & Girl overall 1st Boy & Girl U6 1st Boy & Girl U8 1st Boy & Girl U10 1st Boy & Girl U12, 1st Boy & Girl U14 1st Boy & Girl U16 This year we are taking entries in advance via the Run Britain website. Stoke by Nayland GC Junior Captain’s Day - A Family Affair Junior Captain Matt Thompson hosted his day with a full programme of competition. In the morning there was a 9 Holes paired competition won by Matt and his younger brother Nathan. In the afternoon the Juniors played for the Soar Trophy, an 18 hole stableford competition. Although Isaac Toombs scored an impressive 21 points in the first nine holes Nathan Thompson recovered from a poor start to score a creditable 17 points. But nobody could compete with Nathan’s back nine, 27 points. Isaac also did well but an overall score of 41 points gave him second place to Nathan Thompson. Nathan was presented with the Soar Trophy by his brother Junior Captain Matt Thompson. Results: Soar Trophy, 1st Nathan Thompson 44 points; 2nd Isaac Toombs 41 points; 3rd Tom Paddon 33 points
