CONTENT When preparing my application for TU Delft, I searched the introduction of the architecture track on your website. I was excited that you offers a large number of research-focused specializations, all of which allow students to take a rigorous professional approach to architecture within a highly speculative and creative context. Considering my background, the Heritage & Architecture (RMIT) interests me most. It is quite clear that Chinese cities have a long history and are experiencing rapid development. Undoubtedly, the relation between old and new will be a theme of architectural design in China for a long time. In my future career, I want to focus on the relation between architecture and the city, old and new, to design architectural spaces that become linked to sensual experiences, and which are able to inspire and ignite one's curiosity towards the history and cultural context of the place. I want to explore the re-use of existing buildings and create designs that meet modern aesthetic and functional demands. By creating human-centered design, I would like to keep memory of the city alive for people who actually live there. Based upon that, my thesis interests will be tightly related to the topic of architecture conservation in the context of contemporary society. I would like to focus on all levels of scale, including the use of materials and modern technology, re-use strategies, the aesthetics of historic space and the urban structure. What’s more, I would prefer a thesis project concerning architecture and the natural environment. Obviously, the thesis project would deal with the relationship of the urban environment and its natural context. In other words, I want to explore what constitutes high quality living space for people in the city and what attractive architectural design would suit 21st-century living.

JOURNEY OF INSTINCT SPAIN TRAVEL STUDIO Type: Individual Academic work Tutor: Prof. Zhao Weiyan, Prof. Yin Jia Level: Year 3, Semester 2 Date: Summer 2014 Site: Spain This project is significant to my academic career. It inspired me with one of the most important things to an architect-INSTINCT. I was chosen to be one of the team to take a trip around Spain for one month, recording every feeling I have experienced in different cities. This is a trip of Visus, Tactus, Gustus. Most importantly, it's a discovery of instinct.

Knowing instinct of materials and tools is necessary for painting and architecture design. One of the program objectives is to express personal feelings by using various marterials and tools. Addition and subtraction are both applied in this painting. By using tools adding and removing colors on the paper, elements of what I saw are recomposed, which gives the painting unique texture and complexity.
Areas and lines both appears in most of my paintings in Spain, which is in accordance with my thinking of city. City is composed of areas and lines varing in size. They combines to have corresponding functions. Village in silence, oil pastel on paperboard 21Ă—21cm, 2014

The texture of achitectures in Spain is quite different from it in China. Texture is something you can feel with your eyes or skin.In this paiting I am trying to express the feeling of texture when I saw these buildings. What is different is, I feel texture of those buildings by touching paper and colors, not directly on the wall.

FISHING CLUB UNDERGRADUATE THESIS DESIGN Type: Individual Academic work Tutor: Prof. Zhou Youchao Level: Year 3, Semester 1 Date: Winter 2013 Site: Ningbo, P.R.China Fishing is a traditional activity in this area. Fishing rod inspired me when I am thinking about the relationship between fishing and this design. It provides not only the two forms of this architecture, but also the ways people experience it. The key to this design is to manage the relationships between activity and space, bank and island, land and water, architecture and landscape.

BANK or ISLAND? The bank and the island are both possible to be the site accoding to the design assignment. After evaluation, the island is better based on the reasons listed below.
The bank can only provide water nearby.
The island provides 360째 fishing water.
The bank can only provide one direction of lake view.
The island provides 360째 viewing directions.

The site lies on a small island. In order to have a better view of surrounding lake and scenic spots, the architecture stretches in selected directions. Also, people are able to have various choices when they are fishing.

GREEN VALLEY UNDERGRADUATE THESIS DESIGN Type: Individual Academic work Tutor: Prof. Liu Min Level: Year 3, Semester 2 Date: Spring 2014 Site: Shanghai, P.R.China The project locates near Hongkou football stadium and Luxun Park, the centre of north Shanghai. The design assignment is a synthesis of shopping mall, 4 star standard hotel and office building. Taking into consideration the denseness of pedestrians and vehicles as well as the lack of public space in this area, the main idea of the design is to create a tridimensional GREEN-CONDUCTED public space for people. Public space
Metro & bus
Public space is created by properly organising the three parts-shopping mall, office building and hotel. Every possibilities are evaluated according to criteria listed below: · relatively easier access to hotel and mall · relatively bigger commercial area next to streets · relatively shorter commercial circulation · relatively better view for hotel rooms · sunshine
mall

Water
Commercial zone
Design objectives come from the site analysis directly. Since the low quality of building space and hign density of this area, the green from north ought to extend into the site horizontally and vertically to lead public space. Also, the public space should play the role in connecting two existing commercial blocks and making a corridor for people to go through. As a result, a bigger commercial district is formed in north Shanghai which is going to be a new accelerator of local economy.

Most of the existing office buildings in Shanghai are not friendly in terms of operation mode. People who work in the building are isolated from outdoor space and fresh air for a whole day. In this design, green outdoor space is organised vertically in high-rise building. People who work in the building will be able to enjoy outdoor space during break. Also, they serve as obeservation decks for tourists. +97.80 +94.20 +90.60 +87.00 +83.40 +79.80 +76.20 +72.30 +68.40 +64.50 +60.60 +56.70 +52.80
