SOIL TO SPOON PRINT, BRANDING/IDENTIT Y

Soil to Spoon is a hypothetical nonprofit organization that’s mission is to educate families about the truth of ingredients found in store bought food, and the many advantages of growing your own food, as well as supporting local farmers. For this project, I chose to design a logo that was representative of the organization’s name and to capture the idea of knowing the origin of your food. I designed two types of brochures, the first is a wheel that gives helpful facts about chemicals found in mainstream food and how to avoid them. The second brochure is a “What’s in Season” guide, giving people a look at which fruits and vegetables can be grown natively in New England during each season. Because Soil to Spoon embraces eating local and organically, I designed a matching tote bag and t-shirt that would be given out at events. Lastly, I designed a mobile app that gives users features such as finding a local farmer’s market, recipes, and events in their community hosted by Soil to Spoon. All original photography and illustration.

HELVETICA PACKAGING, PRINT

Before the days of design as we know it today, fonts were once physical objects that letterpress operators had to purchase in order to use. For this project, our objective was to research a font family and then conceptualize, design, and prototype hypothetical packaging. I chose Helvetica, as it is a font I have been exposed to over and over again but knew very little about. I chose a punchy red to pay tribute to Helvetica’s origin of Swiss design and kept the layout minimal and structured. Because Helvetica has such a large font family, I opted to create three smaller boxes that fit inside the main box to maximize the amount of space I had to reflect Helvetica’s interesting personality.

This project originally started out as a coaster design where I was tasked to design a logo for a house featured drink in a hypothetical restaraunt. I ended up loving Third Eye so much that I took it upon myself to expand the brand

MÖNA BRANDING/IDENTIT Y, PACKAGING, UI/WEB DESIGN

The objective of this project was to conceptualize a hypotetical brand in any industry, design packaging and a website. I created MÖNA, a natural body product company. Keeping the color palette muted and soft, my goal was to attract a sophisticated feminine audience that cares about what ingredients go into their skin care products. MÖNA’s website is minimal and airy with dreamy photographs of the products. I used the blush color from the rose packaging as an accent color for the buttons, links, and hover on the website for a girly but refined feel. All original photography.

PLAYING CARDS PRINT, ILLUSTRATION

The objective of this project was to design themed playing cards using original illustrations. I combined the famous “Lions, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!” from The Wizard of Oz with a graphic low poly style to modernize it. I drew each animal in my sketchbook, brought the illustrations into Adobe Illustrator and then digitally drew a geometric pattern over each to create the low poly effect. Each animal’s color palette was inspired by tones of the natural fur colors of lions, tigers, and bears and then exaggerated with brighter tones such as the yellow green the on the lion and the lavender on the bear. All original illustration.

AIGA POSTER PRINT

For this project, I was provided written content for the 2016 AIGA Design Conference. My task was to design a solution to accommodate the large amount of text and create an interesting visual hierarchy. Since the event is hosted in Las Vegas, I was inspired by the vintage motel signs that can be spotted in the area. I designed a sign shape that would hold different bits of information for the conference and a custom typeface for “AIGA that gives the illusion of light bulbs over the letters. All original illustration.

CHVRN (pronounced: churn) is a hypothetical vegan ice cream company serving up flavors such as Strawberry Serpent and Pistachio Palmistry.

Ingredients: Filtered Water, Organic Coconut Cream, Organic Palm Sugar, Organic Sunflower and/or Safllower Oil, Organic Sugar, Pea Protein, Oragnic Strawberry Extract, Organic Strawberries, Guar Gum, Locust Bean Gum, natural flavor.

I decided to go for a non-traditional theme for the branding in order to appeal to young, hip individuals. Each flavor is represented by a custom icon: a crystal ball, a serpent, a pyramid,

HEIRLOOM FOOD CO. UI / WEB DESIGN

Heirloom Food Company is a vegan farm to table café located in Danielson, CT. The purpose of this project was to redesign an existing website to both modernize it and more accurately speak to the target audience. The original design relied heavily on black backgrounds to give off a trendy vibe but fell short as the website was one single page with no navigation. I brought in lighter, brighter colors and sectioned off the content onto appropriate pages for easier viewing. Heirloom has many different menus: breakfast, lunch, juices, smoothies and protein shakes, as well as a full café drink list and specials. In order to make viewing these options a pleasent experience, I divided up their immense list of food and drinks and made separate menu pages for each. For a glimpse into what Heirloom’s atmosphere is, I included a mosaic style gallery page of photographs of the café where each photo can be viewed larger in a lightbox.

TYPOGRAPHY BOOK PRINT, BOOK DESIGN

For this project I was provided text about the history of typography and was tasked to design an aesthetically pleasing book to house the information. My 6x6 book was made with Neenah Astrobrights in Lift-Off Lemon and Outrageous Orchid. I then bound the book with a perfect binding and encased the pages in a black hardcover. The design of my typography book is filled with typographic patterns, using letterforms and symbols in a combination of different typefaces. Each chapter of the book begins with a cut-out that lets a sheet of iridescent acetate accentuate the number of the chapter. All original illustration.

RISING MOON NATURAL FOODS BRANDING/IDENTIT Y, PRINT

Rising Moon Natural Foods is my parents’ health food store located in Plainfield, CT. Since the store opened in 1998, I have held a deep attachment to it and consider it my second home. In the summer of 2015 my boyfriend, Craig Nelson, and I took it upon ourselves to give the shop a complete overhaul including branding, web design, and social media planning to bring Rising Moon’s personality back to life. My contribution to this redesign included designing business cards, gift cards, customer loyalty cards, and an outdoor store front sign. I redesigned the store’s logo taking inspiration from the original logo such as modernizing the moon goddess and using a whimsical typeface. I also designed labels for our bulk food products and self-serve hebs, spices, and teas. Craig and I did a variety of interior design projects including painting the inside of the store to match our branding colors, building wood shelving, designing chalkboard wayfinding, and setting up product displays. All original illustration and photography.
