APOTHEK THERAPEUTIC ESSENTIAL OILS branding & identity, print design, book binding

For this project, I was tasked with conceptualizing and branding a product line, designing and prototyping a product catalog, and designing environmental graphics for a tradeshow booth. Apothek is a high quality essential oil brand, specializing in single oils that are to be used therapeutically for physical and emotional healing. The vision for the branding of Apothek was heavily inspired by old style apothecaries and herbal shops, before the days of mainstream pharmaceutical companies. For the packaging I used a standard 15mL glass amber euro dropper bottle that is wrapped by a black paper label. The

information on each label is organized inside a grid to further play off the old apothecary bottle style. I paired Klinic Slab, a contemporary slab serif with Du Nord, a stylish sans serif for a sterile and modernized spin on antique labels. The labels list the name of the oil and common uses that are specific to that oil. The catalog is organized by four categories that relate to the type of plant that the oils are extracted from- flowers, fruits, herbs & seeds, and woods & roots. Inside the catalog features illustrations of selected plants from each category. All original illustration and photography.

PROVIDENCE AQUATIC SANCTUARY MARINE LIFE EDUCATIONAL CENTER branding & identity, print design, wayfinding, environmental graphics

Providence Aquatic Sanctuary is a hypothetical educational center where families come learn about endangered sealife, their natural habitats, and how environmental factors have been negatively impacting these creatures. For this project I was tasked with branding the organization and creating a wayfinding system for the grounds. I designed a graphic logo that resembles an ocean wave to convey that the organization supports ocean life and also because this would be a Rhode Island based center. For the environmental graphics, I designed acrylic panels that would be etched and mounted over the tanks that the animals

are housed in. The panels feature quick facts such as the animal’s diet, where they are found on the globe, and an interesting fact about the species. In addition, I included how climate change has been affecting these animals and their habitats and where the animal is ranked on the ICUN Red List. For the wayfinding portion of this project, I designed an icon set and a grounds map. This project was chosen to be featured at Johnson & Wales University’s first annual Senior Design show, where I was able to prototype the tank signage to scale on a 4’x8’ panel. FRENCH PAPER CO. PAPER SAMPLE BOOK print design, illustration, book binding

French Paper Co. has been a family owned paper company for the last 140 years in Niles, Michigan. They are one of the smallest paper mills in America, known for producing their paper using 100% hydroelectric power since 1922. In my Print Production class I was tasked with researching a paper company and choosing one of their product lines to design and construct a paper sample book for. For this project I chose Pop-Tone, a vibrant 24 color line of paper by French Paper Co. For the construction of the book, I combined a traditional gatefold style that opens to an availability chart and two waterfall perfect

bindings of paper swatches on the left, and a spiral bound section of various sized paper weights samples on the right. For the pattern design that is seen when the book is first opened I was largely influenced by the candy and treat themed phrases that each color is named after. The colors of the pattern are taken directly from the Pop-Tone papers themselves as well, incorporating most of the 24 colors. Throughout the spiral bound section of the book are different weights and colors of paper to show buyers the difference between the text and cover weights that can be purchased. PRANA YOGA LIFESTYLE MAGAZINE print design, editorial layout

For this project, I was tasked with conceptualizing and designing a monthly magazine. Prana is a fictional yoga lifestyle magazine that includes articles on yoga poses, super-food recipes, yoga related products, interviews with yoga instructors, and a studio directory. I was challenged to create a cover, including masthead design, cover image and layout, as well as a planned, organized gridbased layout for each inside spread, two print advertisements, a featured article, an interview article and one creative piece, while using all

original photography & illustration. In order to develop the most appropriate editorial design for my vision of the Prana brand, I incorporated thoughtful, well-composed and properly typeset copy including headlines, subheadlines, captions and body copy. By choosing and pairing the typefaces Karma and Nitti Grotesque, and maximizing negative space in each spread, I was able to maintain an organic and breathable design. After all, yoga is all about the breath! All original illustration and photography.

ZURA FEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL web design, html & css, branding & identity

For this project, I was tasked with coding a one page website that utilized multiple full screen panels with distinct content on each one. Zura Fest is a fictional music festival I conceptualized and designed specifically for this project. The Zura Fest website has six panels that include a homepage with links to jump to the "lineup" and "tickets" sections, a lineup panel that lists the featured bands and artists, a ticket package panel with

links to purchase each package, a merchandise panel with festival related items, and a FAQ section at the bottom answering questions and concerns attendees may have about the festival. In addition to coding the website, I also designed merchandise for the festival including a poster, t-shirt, mug, and compilation record that would feature artists from that year’s festival. RISING MOON NATURAL FOODS HEALTH FOOD STORE branding & identity, print design

Rising Moon Natural Foods is my parents’ health food store located in Plainfield, CT. Since the store opened in 1998, I have held a deep attachment to it and consider it my second home. In the summer of 2015 my boyfriend Craig and I took it upon ourselves to give the shop a complete visual overhaul including branding, web design, and social media planning to bring Rising Moon’s personality back to life after a stagnant streak. My contribution to this redesign included designing new business cards, gift cards, customer loyalty program cards, indoor signage and an outdoor store front sign. I redesigned the store’s 17 year

old logo, keeping in mind not to stray from the foundation Rising Moon had already built for itself over the years. I preserved elements from the original logo by modernizing the iconic moon goddess and updating the the typeface to the whimsical Gabriela. I also designed labels for the bulk food products and self-serve herbs, spices, and teas. Craig and I did a variety of interior design projects including painting the inside of the store to match the new branding colors, building wood shelving, designing and illustrating chalkboard wayfinding, and setting up new product displays. All original illustration and photography.

COACHELLA MUSIC & ARTS BROCHURE print design, editorial layout

For this project, I was tasked with designing an event brochure for a festival related to the arts. Coachella is a music and arts festival hosted every year in California for two weekends. Over the last few years it has been gaining popularity among millennials and is a fashion and cultural destination for many celebrities. I used duotone

photography throughout the brochure, using a peachy orange to reflect the warm and sunny desert that Coachella is hosted in. I chose to print this brochure on French Paper’s Grout Gray Construction paper to give a retro newspaper feel to the brochure. All photography from past Coachella events, found on coachella.com.

COMMIS / AT THE TABLE POP-UP RESTAURANT COLLABORATIONS print design, branding, illustration

Along with my peers Kylee Hitz and Spencer Desrosiers, I worked on a design team and collaborated with two teams of Johnson & Wales culinary students during the 2016-2017 Fall and Winter terms. Our job was to bring their popup restaurants to life through great design. My design team was responsible for interpreting the initial look and feel ideas drafted up by the culinary teams and then designing a logo, a menu,

and takeaway packaging for each restaurant that would be specific to the type of dining experience the culinary students were curating. Our culinary teams had similar visions for their pop-ups: seasonal, locally foraged food that emphasizes the unique dining experience. For each project, my contributions were to create illustrations and design the menu layouts. All original illustration.

SOIL TO SPOON EDUCATION FOR CHEMICAL FREE LIVING branding & identity, print design

For this project I was tasked with researching a social issue and conceptualizing a hypothetical organization to raise awareness for the chosen issue. Soil to Spoon is a hypothetical non-profit organization who’s mission is to educate families about the truth of unhealthy, chemical ingredients found in conventional store bought packaged food, the many advantages of growing your own food, as well as supporting local farmers. The logo I designed for this organization is a spoon icon with a scoop of dirt that has a little sprout growing out of it. This concept is representative of the organization’s name and is meant to convey the idea of knowing the origin of our food. I designed two types of brochures, the first is an educational spinning paper wheel that lists helpful facts about chemicals found in mainstream food. The

wheel also lists what foods these chemicals are found in to help consumers avoid them easily and with more knowledge. The second brochure is a "What’s in Season" guide, giving consumers a look at which fruits and vegetables can be grown natively in New England during each season. Because Soil to Spoon embraces eating not just local and organic foods, but also to support local farmer’s markets, I designed a matching tote bag and t-shirt that would be given out at the markets to raise awareness for chemical free food. Lastly, I designed a mobile app that includes features to locate a local farmer’s market, recipes for whole, plant based meals, and a calender of events hosted by the Soil to Spoon organization. All original photography and illustration.

AMALGAMOUS LIVING LIFESTYLE BLOG web design, html & css

Amalgamous Living is a hypothetical lifestyle blog I worked on with my colleague, Kylee Hitz. The main purpose of this blog was to develop and design a lifestyle blog that targets creative individuals who are thirsty for ideas and inspiration and thrive on visual exploration. The vision that we had for the website was to be rich in visual imagery and provide interesting coverage on a wide range of topics, including food & drink, travel, DIY projects

& tips, and outdoor living. My responsibilities for this project were to design a logo for the blog, create a style guide that Kylee and I would follow for the creation of our content, generate copy for the DIY and Food & Drink pages, code the homepage and two separate category pages, and create details such as a fictional Instagram account that could be linked to the blog.
