Birmingham Metropolitan College and Kidderminster College are working in partnership to launch an exciting new Academy in September 2012.
Fashion
The Academy will specialise in a range of creative, 3D digital, gaming, fashion and retail, food technology, construction and entrepreneurship courses, housed in a stunning £6.1m refurbishment of the Piano Building on Weavers Wharf. The new facilities will be state of the art and will provide a huge creative and cultural boost to the region, which will benefit the local community and local businesses. Students will benefit from up to the minute advanced technologies and a true industry level experience in facilities to include:
• Fashion studio • Online TV and radio broadcast studio • Motion capture studio • 3D scanning and printing facilities • State of the art work spaces for food and food technologies • Retail space and restaurant which will be open to the public • Construction workshops and innovative spaces for training Birmingham Metropolitan College is proud to be investing in this innovative project. Our investment will enhance opportunities for learners to study new courses in an outstanding venue to enhance their employment opportunities. 3D design, game engines, animation, digital graphics and the development of apps and games – these are all experiences students will develop at The Academy when studying games design.

Interactive Design Technologies Combining the creative skills of graphic design, photography, games development, 3D visual communication and animation, courses in interactive design technologies will prepare students for the new digital age.

Food, Food Processing and Catering We are delighted to be launching our food processing and catering courses. We have developed partnerships with a wide range of catering companies. Learners will be taught in our professional standard kitchens and public restaurants by experienced chef lecturers. The training will ensure our students are work ready when they complete their qualifications. There are skills shortages across many areas of this industry and employers are looking to recruit knowledgeable and trained staff who can make a real contribution to their business.

Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Qualifications British small businesses are leading the way to recovery and are recognised as the key to economic growth. There are exciting possibilities for the entrepreneurial minded who are looking for their next venture. Our BTEC Enterprise and Entrepreneurial courses will provide opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs to realise and achieve their career dreams. Professional Studies Management, accountancy, business, law and information technology provides a range of courses which will help students to prepare for careers in business environments. Birmingham Metropolitan College is very proud to be the lead provider for the Financial Services Skills Academy, West Midlands. This accolade recognised the quality of the teaching of financial services and accountancy within the College. Students studying within the Academy have the benefit of taking specialist courses with excellent teaching and the College has strong links with employers in the region.
