Dear Members,
Summer has finally arrived after an active and engaging spring season!
Thank you to all the members who participated in club activities so far this year. It was fantastic to see you enjoying Hampton Hall life with friends and family at events such as Blues, BBQ, and Brews, Ladies with Ladies Chocolate Event, Easter Brunch, Mother’s Day Brunch, Pickleball League play, Speaker Series, Memorial Day, and the Ladies’ and Men’s Member Guest Golf Tournaments…just to name a few! A special thanks to all the members who hopped over for our first Pancakes with the Easter Bunny. The event was a tremendous success with a sold-out crowd of families, children and grandchildren. We look forward to seeing you at all the upcoming summer social events at your club.
It has been wonderful to see all the action at the new playground, as well as the new billiards room at Pete’s Grill. While these enhancements have a direct impact on the membership experience, they also assist in attracting new members and maintaining our current assets. Enjoy!
Please Note: A few operational updates on projects taking place at your club and around your community. Thank you for your ongoing support and feedback to make these projects come to life and enhance the member experience.
PROJECT UPDATES
Playground, Swing Set, and Sunshade
The newly replaced playground project has come to completion. The 20-year-old playground was replaced by certified safety installers with one of the most reputable playground equipment brands in the nation. We also added a sunshade to the playground as an additional enhancement for members to comfortably enjoy watching their children and grandchildren play on the mega tower, swing set, and ten spin.
Associate Recognition | Paul Merz
A special shoutout to our first quarter employee of the quarter, Paul Merz. Paul primarily works in Golf Operations, but it is not unusual to see Paul lending a hand all over the club. Paul consistently exudes various values of the club including safety, dedication, positive attitude, and of course…friendliness. In addition to Paul’s recognition, we also congratulate Fi Fi (Fitness) and Curtis (F&B) as the runner ups for this honor. Please join me in congratulating Paul, Fi Fi, and Curtis on this welldeserved recognition.
Pete’s Grill | Billiard’s Room
Pete’s Grill is now home to the billiard table which compliments the dart board and Golden Tee arcade game. This project yielded a muchneeded, light refresh of the area in addition to repurposing underutilized spaces within the club. Moving the billiards table to Pete’s Grill has also allowed for a dedicated conference room at the Main Clubhouse. We hope you enjoy this new area and look forward to seeing you at Pete’s Grill soon!

Randy and Marion Weiner Member Spotlight
A JOURNEY
In the serene enclaves of Bluffton, South Carolina, retired chiropractor Randy Weiner and his wife Marion, (his “swing coach”) have found their calling amidst the lush fairways and challenging greens of the Hampton Hall Club’s Pete Dye Signature Golf Course. Randy’s passion for golf extends far beyond the borders of his newfound home. Randy and Marion have set out on an extraordinary quest: to tee off on the finest golf courses in each of the 50 United States. And with just one state left to conquer, his journey is poised to reach its crescendo in Utah this September.
A LIFE IN MOTION: Doctor Weiner’s journey from the bustling practice rooms of New City, New York, to the manicured greens of Hampton Hall Club is a testament to the spirit of adventure that defines
STATES OF GOLF From Chiropractor to Fairway Connoisseur: How One Couple Embarked on a Golfing Odyssey Across the Nation
his retirement years. After decades of tending to the aches and pains of his patients, Randy hung up his chiropractic tools and traded them for golf clubs, embracing the freedom of retirement with gusto. Together with Marion, they’ve crafted a lifestyle that seamlessly blends their love for golf and travel with cherished family moments.
The Quest for 50 States: For the Weiner’s, retirement isn’t just about kicking back and relaxing; it’s about embarking on an epic golfing odyssey. With 49 states already under their belt, the quest to conquer the nation’s top golf courses is nearing its zenith. From the windswept links of Oregon to the sun-drenched fairways of Florida, Randy and Marion have crisscrossed the country in his goal to complete all 50 states. Each course holds its
own allure, its own challenges, and its own story, woven into the fabric of America’s golfing landscape.
A FAMILY AFFAIR: But Randy Weiner’s golfing escapades are about more than just the pursuit of the perfect swing. They’re about family, connection, and the joy of shared experiences. With three sons and eight grandchildren scattered across the country, Randy and Marion seize every opportunity to combine their love for golf with cherished family time. Whether it’s a round at a nearby course or a crosscountry road trip to tick off another state from their list, the Weiner’s understand the true meaning of golfing camaraderie.

THROUGH 50
“…we fell in love with Hampton Hall’s great lifestyle, friendly people, and of course the Pete Dye golf course.”
THE FINAL PUTT: As the Weiners prepare to step onto the fairways of Utah to complete their quest, they do so with a sense of fulfillment and anticipation. It’s not just about reaching the end goal; it’s about the journey— the friendships forged, the memories made, and the countless stories shared along the way. And as Randy and Marion pack their clubs into the trunk of their car and set off into the sunset, they do so with the knowledge that the spirit of adventure will always guide their next swing, wherever it may lead.
THE WEINER’S WERE INTERVIEWED FOR THE BRIDGE BY CANTERBURY LANE NEIGHBORS…
What brought you to Hampton Hall?
“We moved from Orangeburg, New York to Hampton Hall in 2017. After building a busy practice in New York, we fell in love with Hampton Hall’s great lifestyle, friendly people, and of course the Pete Dye golf course. We also enjoy cycling, pickleball, the fitness center and indoor pool.”
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
“We’re pizza aficionados. Coming from New York, we are on a continuing search for the best pizza and we’re still searching for what we were used to in New York. We have a few selections for the best nearby pizza. We have fun going on pizza tours throughout the Lowcountry and Savannah with friends”.

Drive for Show and Putt for Dough
BY BRENT CARLSON PGA Head Golf Professional
One of my early golf memories growing up was a group of golfers that played our home course dubbed “The Armada.” It was a large group of players that played together, and when they went down the fairway they left a trail of dust and smoke. None of those players could hit the ball particularly long but their short games were exceptional. We always walked our home course, so to ride on a golf cart was considered a rare treat. Out one day with the Armada, I got to ride along with Bob Guter. I could hit the ball further than Bob, but could rarely outscore him because of his mastery around the greens. He introduced me to the phrase “Drive for Show and Putt for Dough.” It has stuck with me all these years. The scoring aspect of our game really places an emphasis on skill near the hole. As Mr. Guter would explain, a 250-yard drive counts the same number of strokes as a one-foot putt. “The woods are full of long hitters” was another one of his gems. Drive for Show and Putt for Dough…I hope you will keep that phrase in mind when you are warming up to play and place an emphasis on short game during your practice sessions.
“THE WOODS ARE FULL OF LONG HITTERS.”

Don’t Let Your Grass Become a Couch Potato
BY MATT SAPOCHAK, Golf Course Superintendent
Every summer the same thing happens in the Lowcountry. Humidity is high and thunder showers begin in mid-June. Showers seem to come every two weeks or less. Normally rain fall is between .5 to 1 inch in an hour or two, sometimes less and sometimes more rain than we need. Frequently the skies drop an inch of rain in the afternoon, and the next morning I see sprinklers in yards along Hampton Hall Boulevard and around the golf course running like we are in a drought. By keeping a wet yard, you are killing grass and building a great environment for disease and insects. You are also cheating yourself out of something you would like to have, and that higher payment is going to the water company for water you don’t need to use. Better yet, take the money you save and treat your yard to a nice application of a slow-release premium fertilizer with minors.
Most of the grass in Hampton Hall is Centipede or a type of Zoysiagrass similar to Empire Zoysia, which is of the wider leaf blade variety. After a good rain Centipede can go three to ten days without water depending on the soil type and humidity; I watered my Centipede yard six times in 2023 and have not watered it in 2024. The fine leaf Zoysiagrass, such as Zeon can’t go as long without water like Empire Zoysia. Empire can go three to eight days without water depending on the amount of rain received and humidity.
Turning off your irrigation clock in most cases is as simple as moving a dial from automatic to off. When the dial is moved to the off position you do not lose the programing in your clock. When you turn the dial back to automatic the clock goes back to watering like it was before you turned the dial to off. Make sure you replace the 9-volt battery in your clock every spring. By keeping the battery fresh this will help your clock maintain its programing if the power goes off.
Letting your yard dry out makes your grass push down roots looking for water and reduces disease and insect pressure. Do not manage your yard around one dry spot. I see people with a 5' by 8' dry area turn the time up on their irrigation system to try and make the dry area better while making other turf wet. When I have a small dry spot problem in my yard, I’ll pull out the hose, hook up the whirly bird sprinkler, pour myself and my wife our favorite libation, relax and watch the water run.
Cut the water off for a while after a good rain. It will get your grass out working for what it needs and building a better root system. This in turn will make a better strand of grass that will require less inputs.

Swim lessons with Stefan Bauroth are designed to help both beginners to advanced swimmer meet their individual goals in the water. He works with ages 6 months to adults.
Summer has arrived with a bang! Hot temperatures are depleting of our skin’s peptides, so keeping skin moisturized and protected with SPF minimum of 30 (remember application on ears too) is recommended to avoid sunburn and parched skin. Also, wearing a visor or hat when enjoying outdoor activities helps to shade delicate facial skin and as a bonus less squinting improves vision! Additional H20 hydration is also a must during the hot season to support depleted nutrients in the skin. After you’ve had a day of fun in the sun consider a moisturizing facial and/or a deep tissue massage to relax and revive!
