opens online 30 days in advance.

Hoppin’ into Spring! Alma Haddad shared

Dear Hampton Hall Members,

As winter slowly recedes, the arrival of spring is greatly welcomed at Hampton Hall… especially after we received the rare gift of snow and ice for a few days this winter.

Springtime at Hampton Hall means more opportunities to enjoy the countless activities and amenities at your Club. We hope to see you at the many upcoming food and beverage events, such as Passport Dining, which embraces cuisine from around the world. Each Passport Night takes you on a trip to a different destination without even leaving the gates of Hampton Hall! Whether you’re attending a Passport Night or any of the exciting events on the calendar, we look forward to seeing you there.

Speaking of dining, our Food & Beverage team continues to add variety to your experience with seasonal menu rotations and

creative daily specials at Pete’s Grill for lunch and the Main Clubhouse for dinner. Remember, calling in pickup orders is always a quick and convenient option for enjoying your favorites at home!

With the arrival of spring comes the chance to enjoy all the various outdoor amenities at your Club. We look forward to seeing you enjoy the Lowcountry springtime from our scenic walking paths, newly resurfaced basketball court, award winning Pete Dye golf course, active sports courts, recently replaced playground, refreshing outdoor pool with splash pad, and so much more!

This time of year also serves as a reminder of growth and new beginnings. It is my pleasure to welcome our new member volunteers for 2025. Your dedication to serving on a Board, Committee, or Advisory Group makes your community a better place. Thank you for your commitment and hard work-your efforts make a meaningful difference in making Hampton Hall such a special place

to live and have fun!

Thank you for making Hampton Hall your home. I look forward to seeing you around the Club this spring!

Member Spotlight

Jim and Deborah Richeal recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary in October 2024. They met on eHarmony in 2006 and married on October 5, 2008. Jim has a daughter, Cheryl (46, NJ), from his first marriage, while Deborah has a son, John (34, NJ), and a daughter, Carolyn (31, NY), from hers.

Originally from West Deptford, NJ, Jim worked as a dealer operator for Toyota in Cherry Hill, NJ, and later as a General Manager for Coast Honda in Sea Girt, NJ, before attempting retirement in 2016. Deborah, from Brielle, NJ, spent much of her career as a Mobile Intensive Care Unit paramedic for Capital Health and Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. Early in her career, she worked as a flight paramedic in China for International SOS.

After raising their children in NJ, Jim and Deborah relocated to Anthem, Arizona, where Jim worked for a Lexus dealership, and Deborah taught paramedic programs while working as a flight paramedic. In January 2018, Deborah accepted a

position as Lead Medical Instructor for MedAire in Savannah, GA, training corporate flight crews to manage medical events in-flight. Jim joined her in April 2018 after selling their home in Arizona. They rented a home near Gulfstream for a year while house hunting in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. Jim, who briefly returned to work for Grainger Automotive Group in Beaufort, retired again in 2021. In 2024, he earned his boat captain’s license and now serves as the lead captain for Freedom Boat Club Hilton Head.

Finding Home at Hampton Hall

The couple fell in love with Hampton Hall’s natural beauty, diverse home designs, and well-maintained landscape. Jim’s passion for golf and the Pete Dye-designed course sealed the deal. They viewed the additional amenities as a bonus. In 2023, they welcomed Maddy, their black-andwhite Bernedoodle, who now enjoys daily golf cart rides with Jim.

Community and Activities

Their neighbors quickly introduced them to other residents, creating a

strong sense of community. Jim and Deborah enjoy golf, wine-tasting dinners, Bocce, trivia nights, and events like the Golf Gala and Murder Mystery Dinner. Jim volunteers with the Low Country Foundation for Wounded Military Heroes, escorting veterans on the golf course. Deborah has participated in bunco, book clubs, and the Speaker Series.

They also bonded quickly with the dining staff: Marlon makes the best cosmos and espresso martinis! Ronda and Marlon go all out to ensure their dining or “burger at the bar” is always a great experience. Jim and Deborah have witnessed how the community comes together to support each other and the staff, creating a strong sense of unity.

Jim has served on several committees, including Membership, Golf Tournaments, and the MGS Board. Deborah’s demanding work schedule limits her involvement, but she looks forward to participating more in the future. Together, they enjoy boating, kayaking, and exploring the Lowcountry’s beauty

by car or boat. Dining out with friends at local restaurants in Hilton Head and Savannah remains one of their favorite activities.

Unique Experiences

Jim’s lifelong love of motorcycles and their time in Arizona—hiking in Sedona and motorcycling on Route 66—are highlights of their adventures. Deborah’s career has taken her around the world, with stints in France, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Beijing during her 20s as a flight paramedic.

The Richeals value the strong bonds they’ve formed within Hampton Hall. “We’ve moved a few times and know there is no perfect place to live, but Hampton Hall is our home away from home when not in NJ,” they say.

Advice to New Residents

“Anyone considering moving to Hampton Hall can make friends easily by getting involved in activities or committees. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. It’s a safe, beautiful place to live with some of the friendliest people we’ve ever

met,” Deborah shares.

With Hampton Hall as their “extended family,” Jim and Deborah cherish late nights on the porch with good wine, great company, and plenty of laughter. Whether golfing, boating, or enjoying community events, they continue to make lasting memories in the place they call home.

Care for the Course

When did you learn to care for the course, and from whom?

I was fortunate to have learned at a very young age. One of my dad’s old golfing buddies gave me a shiny aluminum divot tool when I was a kid, and it quickly became one of my prized possessions. The inscription on it read, “Course Care.” He showed me how to fix a pitch mark on the green, so I am thankful for the early introduction to caring for the course. How are you at caring for the course? Do you have a divot tool story of your own?

It is easy to see the active and hard-working maintenance crew and assume they can handle it all, but that simply is not the case. The crew is well-skilled at getting the course ready before the day, but then it is up to us. Together, we can keep our course lovely. We can make a difference.

There are many areas to focus on when caring for our course. Here are a few worth noting:

Filling Fairway Divots with Sand. This helps the fairways recover more quickly and keeps them in pristine condition.

Fixing Ball Marks on the Green. This is especially important on the front of the greens. If you have a moment while your playing partner is sizing up his bogey putt, feel free to fix an extra mark or two — even if they are not yours.

Cart Entry/Exit into Fairways. The drainage results from the Golf Course Restoration Project have been incredibly positive. We have been riding in the fairways, entering and exiting at the posts that direct us. This helps with the wear and tear on the areas of rough that are receiving traffic. Following these entry/exit points makes us better.

Bunker Raking. Every player is expected to rake the bunker they were in, regardless of the time of day.

Proper Debris Disposal. Plastic wrappers, cigar and cigarette butts, and any other items we bring on the course should always be disposed of properly.

We all play a role in keeping our course fantastic. None of these tasks are incredibly taxing, but it is well worth our while to do these things (and others) to keep our course looking its best!

Let’s do this together!

Spring into Fitness Your Guide to Getting Back in Shape Safely

As the frost of winter begins to thaw and the days grow longer, spring offers the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate your fitness routine. Whether you’ve been hibernating during the colder months or just need a motivational boost, now is the time to ease back into an active lifestyle. Here’s how to safely and effectively “spring” into fitness.

Start Slowly and Build Gradually

Winter’s chill often keeps us indoors, reducing activity levels. If you’ve taken a break from working out, resist the urge to jump back into an intense routine. Whether it’s golf, pickleball, tennis, or weightlifting, easing into exercise is key to avoiding injuries and burnout.

The old saying, “No pain, no gain,” is outdated and misleading. Pain can often be a warning sign of overdoing it or improper form. Instead, aim for a gradual increase in intensity—never exceeding a 10% increase in weight, duration, or intensity per week.

Consult the Experts

If you’re unsure about how to get started or want to try something new, consider meeting with a certified trainer. They can help you create a personalized workout plan that aligns with your goals, fitness level, and any physical limitations.

Stretch to Succeed

Incorporating a proper stretching program into your routine is vital. Dynamic stretches before exercise help prepare your body for

movement, while static stretches after a workout aid recovery and improve flexibility. Stretching not only enhances performance but also reduces the risk of injury.

Recovery Matters

Exercise stresses the body, making recovery a crucial component of any fitness plan. Post-workout muscle pain—often called delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)—is common, typically peaking two to three days after exercise. To manage this, use ice to reduce inflammation, stay hydrated, and get adequate sleep.

Listen to Your Body

Your body is your best guide. If you experience discomfort or fatigue, take it as a cue to rest or adjust your routine. Consistency is important, but overtraining can lead to setbacks.

Spring into Action

Getting back into fitness during the spring doesn’t have to be daunting. By starting slow, prioritizing recovery, and seeking guidance when needed, you’ll set yourself up for a safe and successful transition into an active lifestyle.

This season, embrace the energy of renewal and let it inspire your fitness journey. Whether you’re hitting the tennis court, lifting weights, or enjoying a brisk walk in the sunshine, remember: fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.

Let this spring be your season of strength and growth!

Take Your Fitness to the Next Level with PERSONAL TRAINING

Are you tired of the same old workouts? Struggling to find time for exercise? Noticing changes in your waistline? If so, our certified personal trainers are here to help you make a change!

With personalized sessions designed to fit your goals and lifestyle, our trainers create a supportive and energizing environment where fitness becomes fun and rewarding. We distributed 382 books to our three beneficiary organizations: Boys & Girls Club (Bluffton), CAPA (Beaufort) and The Children’s Center (Hilton Head). Please know that you helped make some children very happy this holiday season!

Celebrating 15 Years

Of Literacy and a National Honor

Hampton Hall’s Those of Prose Book Club has proudly hosted an annual Children’s Book Drive for the past 15 years, making a meaningful impact on young readers in our community.

This incredible dedication to literacy recently earned them the prestigious Literacy Champion Award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Congratulations to Those of Prose for this well-deserved recognition and for fostering the joy of reading in the next generation.

Bluffton Self Help Food Drive

he Hampton Hall Charitable Fund (HHCF) extends our deepest gratitude to all our neighbors who attended or contributed to our events last year! In 2024, your support of the Fall Fashion Show, Wine Tasting Event, and Holiday Home Tour allowed us to raise an incredible $20,000 in grants for deserving organizations, including Second Helpings, Bluffton Community Soup Kitchen, Childhood Cancer Safety Net, Programs for Exceptional People (PEP), and many others.

For those who participated in the Annual Par 3 Golf Tournament, your generosity helped us donate an additional $15,000 to the Beaufort Memorial Keyserling Cancer Center. Mark your calendars for this year’s Par 3 Golf Tournament on March 7! Registration details will be announced soon. This event is open to everyone in the community, offering a fun-filled day on the golf course while supporting a vital cause. Registration and details are on the golf calendar.

We are thrilled to share that last year’s Christmas Toy Drive received more donations than ever before! Your contributions to the School Supply Drive in August and the Food Drive in May provided essential support to countless children and families in our area.

Your generosity made all of this possible, and the HHCF is truly grateful to everyone who participated or made monetary donations. Thank you for helping us make such a positive impact in our community!

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!

Changing Lives – One Diaper at a Time!

Those familiar with the Lowcountry Foundation for Wounded Heroes are certainly aware of our support for local combat wounded military heroes and their families who served in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars by providing service canines for those suffering from PTSD, scholarships to survivors of fallen or disabled veterans, and mortgage-free homes to spotlight just a few of our areas of support. But you may not be aware of the support we have provided for the past five years to Operation Shower®. Operation Shower® believes that military families need to be celebrated and appreciated! They understand that these families are often separated during milestone events in their lives – like having a baby. They work to be there for these families and to show them they are not alone. The amazing baby showers also ease their stresses with gifts for baby and mom, bringing them together with other moms-to-be, and providing a day of JOY!

The theme of last year’s shower held on Hilton Head Island was “Ready to Hatch!” and included a catered lunch, raffle prizes, games, and the highlight of the event, the

distribution of Operation Shower’s® signature “Showers in a Box”— gifts of high-quality products for mothers and babies.

The shower we sponsor each April is life-changing and is yet another example of how LFWMH really does “Change Lives”! We know that at least 75% of the attendees are families with a pay grade of E-5 or below and most do not have baby showers given on their behalf and the donation of these tremendous shower items in some cases is life changing. Most of the military families in these pay grades do live from paycheck to paycheck and in each instance these shower gifts total at least $2,500 and are necessities for every newborn, in addition to letting these women and their families know they were not alone. According to Abi, a previously showered mom, “The chance to be blessed with all the baby stuff that we can barely afford as of this moment is such a great thing for us.”

Our CEO, Russ Spicer said it best in 2024, “For the fifth year in a row, we are honored to partner with Operation Shower® to express our immeasurable appreciation to these courageous military moms-to-be for their service and sacrifice on behalf

of our country. Deployments take a toll on every member of the family, and we are delighted to help spread joy, love, and gratitude to these women for everything they do to keep America safe and free.”

Operation Shower® exists for a simple reason: to recognize the military moms and military families who serve our country. We do this by providing joyous and awesome baby showers! We go above and beyond and then beyond that! These baby showers and the families impacted are yet another example of how and where our resources are both spent and impactful to our military community.

If you would like to learn more about LFWMH and how we support not only Operation Shower, but also a host of other charities through Birdies for the Brave® please reach out to Russ Spicer at russ.spicer48@ gmail.com.
