From sea cliff climbing and abseiling at Dancing Ledge, to canoeing across Poole Harbour, it was end-to-end excitement for young Hamptonians on their Adventure Society trip to the Dorset coast.
At the Mud Trail Adventure Park, First Years mastered balance beams, cargo nets and mud slides. Everyone enjoyed getting covered top-to-toe in mud before it was time to head home to their families – and the washing machine!
This year’s Project Explore competition attracted dozens of creative entries from our First Years. Final projects included models, music compositions, computer simulations, and poetry.
Third Years showcased their creativity in this year’s Silver Arts Award.
Sixteen Hamptonians demonstrated their projects to Hampton Prep pupils who enjoyed making board game cards for Exploding Kittens and taking drumming and photography lessons.
The Arts Award tests leadership and teamwork skills as well as creative abilities.
Highly commended were James Ayres for his recreation of an Egyptian tomb; Reuben Nicholson for his miniature model of a four-poster bed from Osterley Park; and Sujay Neela for an impressive musical composition. This year’s winner was Thomas Petrou who submitted a superb painting of Meteora – a rock formation in Greece.
Four Upper Sixth Hamptonians are heading to universities across the pond.
James Page takes up a golf scholarship with Old Dominion University, Virginia, while fellow sportsman Zain Suterwalla has been offered a football scholarship at Adelphi University, New York. National French Debating Champion Caleb Weinstein will be studying at Duke University, North Carolina, and Navik Mendis heads to UCLA, California.
Quizzers from across the year groups have been making their mark in national competitions.
Congratulations to our intermediate team (Fourth Years Ben, Albert, Alex and Third Year Umair) who were crowned national champions of the UK Schools’ Challenge Quiz competition. The Senior A team also achieved a place in the national finals and finished as one of the top two teams in the country.
Lower Sixth economist Adam Attia takes up a paid internship position with the Bank of England this summer.
Adam is one of the winners of the bank’s Innovation Competition, where entrants are asked to devise original ideas that embrace the importance of data and technology in the banking industry.
Hampton hosted a hustings in advance of the UK 2024 General Election.
Senior Hamponians and members of the community packed the Main Hall for what was a lively and engaging debate, moderated by Lower Sixth Former Alec Hamilton. Five of the six parties contesting the Twickenham constituency were represented, with candidates answering a range of questions on local, national and international issues.
The School Captains Team for the 2024-25 academic year has been named as Omer Demiral, Oliver Gellatley, Alec Hamilton, Vaibhav Neela, Isaac Tarragano and Rishi Vijayan.
Along with the Prefects and Mentors, the School Captains act as ambassadors for the School and serve as role models, offering advice and support to younger Hamptonians.
Hampton’s awareness-raising group Genocide80Twenty curated a moving exhibition entitled Never Again.
The group made up of Third Year to Sixth Form Hamptonians created exhibits highlighting current and past genocides. Attendees included three survivors of recent genocides alongside parents, alumni, members of staff and fellow pupils.
The Class of 2024 made the most of their final few days at School.
From paintballing in the Surrey Hills, to an afternoon of ice cream, burgers and a friendly football tournament on the fields, the Upper Sixth enjoyed taking time to celebrate with their classmates and reminisce on their Hampton school days. Families were also invited to mark the occasion with a celebration evening in the School Cloisters.
Fourth Years made the most of the annual exchange trip with Collège et Lycée Notre Dame de Sion.
Spending time with local families offered linguists invaluable language practice. Hamptonians also enjoyed the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of the vibrant city including climbing the Eiffel Tower and seeing Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa on a guided tour of the Louvre.
Hamptonians across the year groups travelled to Greece to experience the ancient culture of this fascinating country.
Highlights included visits to the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, the world-famous Acropolis and the Pan-Hellenic sanctuaries at Delphi and Olympia. The cohort even managed to stage a re-enactment of the Battle of Marathon at the site itself, expertly directed by members of the Upper Sixth.
Around 400 Hamptonians put their navigation skills to the test as they headed out on four Silver and Gold DofE expeditions this term.
With 65-litre rucksacks on their backs, the adventurers trekked 6,500 miles between them, across the Dorset, New Forest and Lake District countryside. As well as hiking trips, the DofE participants also completed over 5,000 hours of volunteering.
The Snowdonia National Park was the destination for the Second and Third Year Adventure Society trip.
Mountain biking on the steep trails of Betws-y-Coed; hiking in picturesque Capel Curig; and rock climbing in Tremadog were some of the activities enjoyed by Hamptonians.
A trip to Hamburg offered Lower Sixth linguists the opportunity to hone their language skills as they enjoyed a ‘work and study’ experience.
Alongside practising German at a local language school, Hamptonians gained practical work experience in local businesses such as cafes, hotels, a kindergarten, and a soup kitchen.
We welcomed over 150 junior pupils from 40 partner schools for a day of music making.
Young musicians came together with Hamptonians to participate in a range of workshops in singing, brass, woodwind, percussion and strings. A celebration concert culminated in the combined orchestra playing the signature theme from the James Bond films and a fantastic rendition of Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music by all performers.
Musicians from across the year groups raised the roof of the Hammond Theatre during a series of inspiring music workshops.
Second Years created a carnival atmosphere with a steel pan workshop, while Third Year Hamptonians experienced the energetic rhythms of Japanese Taiko Drumming.
Family, fellow pupils and staff gathered to celebrate our Upper Sixth Leavers’ remarkable contribution to the musical life of the School in a superb concert in the Hammond Theatre.
The programme spanned genres and eras, including Frédéric Chopin, Jimi Hendrix and Duke Ellington, alongside several original compositions.
The Lower School Summer Show saw a talented cast and crew of over 50 Hamptonians and pupils from Hampton High tell the hilarious story of the saviour of London theatre.
The young dramatists took us on a journey through Elizabethan England, as our unexpected hero Pygge
on the government to bring the joy of theatre back to the people.
Over 60 Hamptonians from First Year to Upper Sixth took part in the summer Rock Concert.
Players across all age groups have enjoyed an excellent cricket season.
Our First Year cricketers played exceptionally to win the U12 Middlesex Schools’ Cup. Hampton’s First XI also secured victories against Eton College, Whitgift School, St Paul’s School, RGS Guildford, Dulwich College, and Reed’s School. Congratulations to Captain Naavya Sharma, James Stanworth, Anuj Srivastav, Natty Taylor and Hugo Knowles who earned their places on the honours board.
Congratulations to the U15s who won the trophy at the Eton Junior Pairs competition. It has been a vintage athletics season with many outstanding performances.
Third Year hurdler Joe Timba, broke the 40-year-old Middlesex Schools’ Championship record while also helping his Third Year team win at the Richmond Schools’ Athletics Championships, where First Years also topped the table.
The team made up of Juan-Leonardo Solari Hernandez, Brennan Coletta, Harrison Chalmers, and Jamie Giffin beat the hosts Eton College 9-6 in the final. Plaudits also go to the U14s on winning the Surrey League Finals.
The 2024 National Schools’ Regatta saw the strongest results for the School in recent years. Out of 86 rowers competing, 36 returned home with Gold or Silver medals. The J14 squad opened the regatta in style with both the J14A and J14B octuples winning their events. On the second day of the regatta, the J15 rowers were also on great form clinching Silver medals for both
Lower Sixth oarsmen George Buckingham and Harry Oliver both achieved two Gold medals apiece for Team GB at the Munich Regatta.
Harry secured Golds with the Men’s Eight and Men’s pair. George took two Golds rowing with the Men’s Eight boat. The Hamptonians are looking forward to an excellent season ahead continuing with their GB trials for the international racing season.
Juniors Joe Timba (80m Hurdles) and Oliver Maisuria-Hull (Javelin); intermediate Daniel Mills (200m); and senior Aaron Mills (400m Hurdles) will compete in the English National Schools’ Championships being held in Birmingham in July.
Upper Sixth Former Kieran Bouwmeester-Reid continues to excel in the Decathlon.
Alongside breaking five School records, Kieran has achieved a run of personal bests in national competitions, placing him among the top decathletes in the UK.
