ENGLISH GARDEN Get involved Description This exhibition looks at how we can live peacefully alongside the natural world creating a sustainable environment Throughout this room there are some examples of the way we can help create a space which supports natural living and reduce our carbon footprint by adapting some things for our own homes and gardens Sustainable homes are designed to reduce overall environmental impact during and after the construction without compromising the ability for future energy generation

FURTHER RESEARCH Sustainability The list can be shortened into a tight definition. Environmental sustainability is the rates of renewable resource harvest, pollution creation, and non-renewable resource depletion that can be continued indefinitely. If they cannot be continued indefinitely then they are not sustainable. In the home: When we use the word “sustainable we mean homes that are designed to reduce the overall environmental impact during and after construction in such a way that we can meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

EVALUATION Throughout the first week I collected the first measurements of the gallery space and also gathered a photographic survey of the gallery One advantage of collecting a photographic survey is that you are able to look back at the images to confirm measurements that you are not sure about and to give you a view of the room when referring to your design ideas when you are unable to visit the room again If I was to do this process again I would get better quality images as my photographic survey this would help with seeing finer details when looking back at the images Another improvement I would make would be to make sure to get all the measurements including measurements for the detail in the room such as window frames as I had to go back for these measurements Following this I the drew up my floor plan and elevations a good point to this is that it is relatively clear for my first draw up One of the main challenges in this process was getting used to using the scale To improve this process in the future it would be useful to get a eraser shield to neaten up some incorrect lines The next stage was then to draw up the axonometric perspective One thing I believe I did well on in this part was getting the perspective correct this was the main challenge in this technical drawing It could have been improved by making the final lines clearer maybe by pressing on harder to make them stand out In addition to this the finer details have become confused with rubbings out and has left it overall a little messy with the smudging From here the design aspect of the project began as we chose our theme I chose the theme nature as I believed I could relate to this concept more than the others After some starting research on exhibition designs to do with the theme of nature I then explored some initial design ideas I believe it would have been more beneficial to come up with a concept before drawing up these ideas This would have given me more time to develop a range of designs which fit into my concept Once I had my concept of sustainability within a garden setting I was able to develop my ideas giving them more purpose giving the exhibition meaning and how to get this concept across If I was to repeat this process I would do more extensive research into sustainability and eco housing looking into how these concepts work practically and the benefits they bring One positive about aspect to my design ideas I that I feel I was able to show the design visually very well This includes drawing of my designs and a moo board towards the end of the project I feel that this portrayed my design well and gives the views an in depth understanding of my design My final visual is a perspective drawing of the exhibition as you first walk into the room I believe this shows clearly my design in relation to the room One of the difficulties of this drawing was getting the angle of the perspective right in doing this I tried to get the perspective where you could see most of the main features of the

room. To improve, I would also create a model of the room so that you can see all aspects of the room. Overall, I am pleased with the progress I have made in this first project and I believe I have learnt a lot of valuable skills and techniques throughout it. In future I believe It would be beneficial to get extensive research at the beginning of the project to give myself a clear understanding of where the designs could take me.
