As in previous occasions I have the pleasure to invite our friends in Hong Kong to participate in the activities under the program “Spanish October 2013”, presented by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Consulate General of Spain and the Spanish Trade Commission. Spain is a country that blends history and culture with modernity and innovation. With a population of 46 million people, Spain is located in the Iberian Peninsula, in the Southwest of Europe. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the East and South; Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean to the West; France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay to the North, it also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic. Spain is a country rich in history and cultural heritage. The legacies of the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and autochthonous populations have all left their imprint in the huge diversity of the country. Today Spain is also a dynamic country, member of the European Union, with modern architecture and advanced educational and scientific institutions, that welcomes more than 58 million tourists every year from all parts of the world. Each region and community has its unique character, which provides a vast array of diversity in art, culture, music, gastronomy, language and lifestyle. All Spain is ready to welcome you in the most friendly, generous and attractive way. The events included in the Spanish October will offer you a glimpse of the best of Spain here in Hong Kong. Please enjoy it with us! Juan Manuel LÓPEZ NADAL

UNTOLD STORIES - Hinted narratives from Spain José María Casanova and José Luis Alexanco Presented by Puerta Roja. 12th of September – 12th of October 2013 (Hong Kong, 31 August 2013) Puerta Roja is proud to present Untold Stories – Hinted narratives from Spain. The exhibition will open on the 12th of September and will include acrylic paintings and digital works by José Luis Alexanco as well as bronze and wood sculptures from José María Casanova. Wandering from figurativism to abstraction, from Casanova’s monochromatic softness of wood and bronze to Alexanco’s colourful intensity on canvas, the works of two masterful Spanish artists diverge at first encounter, but, eventually converge as emotional narratives that are never told, just hinted, provoking us to wonder, fantasise and weave our own. Opening night Sept 12, 7:00 - 9:00 pm Curator Adriana Alvarez-Nichol, founder of Puerta Roja Gallery Exhibition date 12th of Sept - 12th of Oc 2013. 11am-7pm. Tuesday- Saturday and extended hours by appointment Location Puerta Roja, Latin Art Space. 15-17 New Street. ABSTRACT EXPANSION by ALBERTO REGUERA 12th September - 6th October, 2013 Spanish artist Alberto Reguera is staging his second solo exhibition in Karin Weber Gallery emphasizing spatial volume, pigment and expansion. Taking nature as a departure point of creation, Reguera meticulously works out the texture, colors melting into one another. The strands or ‘tongues’ of colour flee from the painting, leaving their trajectory on the white support. Alberto Reguera (Spain, 1961) lives in Madrid and Paris. While this Hong Kong exhibition is under way he is also involved in an institutional show in Paris, where he is exhibiting individually at Campus Eiffel 1 of the École Supérieure du Commerce Extérieur (ESCE). In 2012 he staged a UNESCO-sponsored exhibition at Place du Louvre in Paris. That same year he was “artist in residence” in Shanghai, where he produced two large expanded paintings for the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) collection. Along with his paintings held by that prestigious Chinese institution, his works also form part of the Testimoni Caixa collection in Barcelona, the Marc Moyens collection in Washington D.C., and the Juan March Foundation’s collection in Madrid, amongst others. In Madrid he exhibited at the ARCO international fair last year.
