Abstract
Story House is a renovation project of an existing modern building in Beidou Township, in the central Taiwan. The project seeks to re-attract residences and visitors to the area as through education and innovation of the area industries, such as nurseries of local flora, and textiles. This innovation and education can reinvigorate the industries, as well as educate future generation on the importance of local culture and the native flora of Taiwan. The four-story building will be renovated into a community center which is for educational and recreational uses. Inspired by the four seasons and the actions of animals, the four floors will be distributed to each season. According to the functions from public to private, the first floor will be Spring with the most public and circulation; the second floor will be designed as a Summer restaurant; the third is going to be Fall workshop space; and the last, fourth floor will be Winter for guests staying overnight. Since Dandelion is a very common plant in the area, and very strong for the all season, so it represent the Taiwan original plant. And I use it as images and the symbol of the building. Since Dandelion is all tear and there are many different plants and flower thrive in different time, so I apply the four season: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter to each floor. Also categorize different levels from public to private, according the human activities.

The population of Beidou Township is now 33,308, and has 10,785 families; Changhua County is now 1,276,766, and has 389,981 families. Also, there are large-scale educational institutions near. This informations reminds us that the project could have educational functions to attract school oriental customers.
After interviewing with the people live, work, or study in the neighborhood, we realize that different group of users have different schedule. So separate the users with time can maximum the using efficient.
Users also include the local residents and the people who want to visit Beidou Township. Beidou Township has few cafe and restaurant for after work activities, but many flower and tree fields for biking. Here should be a good connection between those fields.
Ms. Yu-Wei Lin
Basically but not limited, students around the neighborhood will have field trips on the weekday day time. From elementary school, junior high school, high school, and college, all have difference course for learning the native plants and culture. On the weekday nights, after work or school, people can gather together for relaxing and students can still stay for doing homework together.
To separate different users, it can divided to weekday daytime, weekday nights, and weekends. Students can have field trips to the site during the school time. The local residents can hang out with friends or having dinner with families after work. On the weekends, the tourists who visit Beidou Township or the nearby area can come for stay a night.
On the weekends, tourists will come from all over Taiwan. Here has the best weather for most seasons. Base on the variety of plants, they will explore nature with different experience.
Tourists
Overall, here is a good place for family and children for learning culture and building memory.
By Interview the local residents, They request more place to take friends and children to spend the free time. The people who grow up here, but moved out to bigger cities, hope the place can have more unique elements that can connect to the local culture and nature.

The original place name of Beidou Town was Dongluo. The earliest market was built in the third year of Qianlong (1738) when the old club was built on the south bank of Dongluoxi, which is the old eyebrow of Xizhou Township. At the Jiaqing 11 (AD 1806), due to the fierce fighting, the houses and gardens in the old market were destroyed. It was in the first year of Daoguang (1801 AD) in Hezhou. Baodouzhuang built another market and changed it to a treasure. Also, because there is Douliu in Yunlin County in the south, it is the astrological significance of taking "Nantou Six Stars and Big Dipper Seven Stars" and then changing Beidou.

The old name of Beidou Town, the water once belonged to Dongluo, is a river port on a tributary of Zhuoshui River. It used to be an important inland river port and cargo distribution center in China and Taiwan. In the old days, there were bamboo gates and gates. Dyeing houses and sugar profiles (sugar factories) are full of commercial commerce, second only to Lukang: so there have been rumors of "one house, two deer, three gongs and four treasures".

Demographics
Changhua County locates at south North LAtitude, so the north side of the building can still get the sun in winter. It provides the opportunity of growing plants in the north side. However, the plants grown at the north side have to be the kind which needs less sun light or inderict sun.
In Chunhua County, more people moving out than moving in over years since Chunghua County is not the top city for working opportunities. So the population keeps decreasing overtime.

In summer, warm South-West wind blows in to Taiwan. It’s very warm and humid. Summer is also the season for typhoon. It brings lots of rain water. The humidity raise and things can become moldy sometimes. However, during the summer daytime, cloth can get dry very quickly if leave them under the sun. On the other hand, cold North-East wind blows in winter. The wind can be very strong and cold in somedays, which is Cold Current. Fortunately, the north side of the building can still get sun in the winter. It decrease the chance from getting mold.

Fern Living Room - Living with plants in the future. Home of human blending with that of plants, leisure activities taking place among the misty vegetation, this is the imaginary prototype of future dwelling, the intersection of human life circle and vegetation community. In the Fern Living room, we explore the multiple aspects of the life of plants and imagine the possibilities of a life intertwined with the vegetation. Source: Greenhouse as a Home / BIAS Architects, September 19, 2018
In the "Greenhouse", the modern high-tech greenhouse environment fuses with the urban lifestyle and forms the prototype of future living. Here one could drink tea and chat with friends in the cool and moist fern room, pick fresh vegetables indoor and cook delicious meal with them, or enjoy a futuristic light theatre with all five senses in the fungus farm. Going through these magical greenhouses, we experience a living environment where plants cohabitate with human, and learn the subtle equilibrium of life and agriculture.

Farm Dining - A large dining table surrounded by greenery. Dining room is the most important space in a traditional taiwanese home. Food and agriculture is the base of life education. At the Farm Dining, children could observe how a seed becomes food and learn basic cooking and healthy lifestyle in a fun and interactive setting. Photosynthesis Kitchen - The growing and dining happen in the same space. In old times, farmers live by the farmlands and grow their own food. Thanks to modern technology, the ancient lifestyle is made possible in one single room. The kitchen is installed right next to the high-tech indoor farm, people could enjoy the fun of growing vegetables and observe the whole process of food making in a clean and convenient setting.
23
Sun Garden - Sunbathing with the plants. "Chen" is the courtyard within the traditional Taiwanese compound residence, often used for sun drying the crops and holding family events. A sun garden is built in the middle section of the "Greenhouse" much like the traditional "Chen", here people could enjoy the sunshine and breeze with the crops. Theatre of Mushroom - Entering the dreams among twinkling mushrooms. The moist fungus farm becomes a future sensorial home theatre. The senses are enhanced in the darkness, one could smell the fungus while marvel at the glowing mushrooms. As the agricultural environment is merged with human residence, the dreamy experience in the fungus farm offers us a glimpse of the ideal future life.

L'Arbre aux Hérons / The Herons' Tree Artist l Les Machines de l'île Location l Chantenay quarry, Nantes, France Max Length l 135m Max Width l 26m Highest point of the cliff l 32m Project Year l 2018-2022 (Four years of construction)
On July 7th 2016, Johanna Rolland, Mayor of Nantes and President of Nantes Métropole announced the launch of the Herons’ Tree project. It will be carried out over 4 years, the grand opening thus set for 2022. It will be implanted in the Chantenay quarry.
This two and a half hectares quarry is a green heaven for the Tree. Since the dismantlement of the breweries, nature has invaded the quarry. It was dug out in the black granite of Brittany’s southern ridge. Its south, south west orientation has given it a true microclimate allowing for the implantation of extraordinary gardens.

They’ve had this project from the beginning of the Machines de L’île adventure. At the opening of the first part in 2007, the prototype branch was here, on the pediment of their warehouse (les Nefs) and the model of the Herons’ Tree was already a part of the Galerie des Machines. The project has evolved: today, the city in the sky concept gathers the hanging gardens and the mechanical bestiary that inhabits the branches... The Tree and the quarry will of course unify and bridges will be created.
Research
Mechanical animals will go from the cliff to the closest branches. A mechanical Osprey nesting in the cliff could dive along a cable right through the branches... The tip of the branches will shelter a mechanical aviary; these birds will nest in the branches of the Herons’ Tree next to actual living birds perched there enjoying the protection provided by the quarry. A greenhouse to nurture plants destined for the hanging gardens would be found at the bottom of the cliff... Rainwater trickling down the hill would be harvested and piped to the branches... It will take four years to construct the Tree. For the first two years, everything will be redesigned and enriched by the possibilities this quarry offers. We will often give updates on the ongoing evolutions of the project and different steps in its implementation.
27
The tree is made of steel and measures 50 metres (165 feet) in diameter and 30 metres (100 feet) in height. It is crowned by 2 giant herons; each can carry up to twelve passengers for a circular flight. The tree’s 22 branches stretch a combined length of 1.4 kilometres (0,7miles).
Here, they discover the tree, the herons, the Loire River and Île de Nantes from the different belvederes 30 metres (100 feet) up in the air. At the end of the itinerary through the hanging gardens is an outdoor bar which has been built onto a lower branch. The total capacity of the tree is limited to 400 people (i.e., everybody walking through the Tree, plus the passengers aboard the Herons).
Plants take root in the steel and the public can visit incredible gardens going form branch to branch, like a series of interconnected hanging terraces. Accesses to the herons and to the hanging gardens are separate. The gardens are accessible via a double helix staircase located inside the trunk: one to go up, the other to go down. Visitors can walk along branches overgrown with plants and footbridges to go from one branch to the other and finally reach the top of tree.
The Herons’ Tree - Sketches by François Delaroziere 2017 It shows the dimension to people walking throught the huge tree. It is not a plat building, but is a construction can carry memory and keep growing.

Artemis Garden was established in the 2012. It was established by the Sun Lake Culture and Education Foundation to promote the creative life of aromatic plants. The site is located in the Hengshantou Leisure Agriculture Zone, Yuanshan Township, Yilan County, close to the Sun, covering an area of 4000. Yuping, planning to have an indoor greenhouse of 1600 pings, outdoor gardens, landscape and parking space, providing theme display, hand-made experience, special catering, flowers and plants, arts and cultural space and other facilities services, is a fusion of intellectual, cultural, educational and leisure Multiple creative spaces. The museum is an aromatic plant museum approved by the Ministry of Education and has passed the environmental protection facility certification of the Environmental Protection Agency, related group trips, outdoor teaching, environmental education and other activities.
Artemis Garden learns the way of nature landscaping. With the concept of "fish and vegetables symbiosis", the dead wood and branches eliminated in the park, the rocks on the local Lanyang River, the nearby fish, shrimps, plants and ferns are locally arranged. To cultivate vanilla plants by hydroponic cultivation, and to complete the "ecological landscape" that can be observed, observed and learned for eternal symbiosis. This is a greenhouse building made up of three elements: steel, glass and wood. It is planned according to the environmental conditions of Yilan landform, climate and monsoon. The indoor high-profile design uses a large amount of glass to introduce outdoor natural light source and fresh air, recover the rainwater circulation to cool down, adjust the indoor temperature, let the plants naturally generate green space, and achieve the design concept of integration of architecture and environment. In the nature of the plant world, “white flowers” are particularly fragrant, vanilla Fifi white-themed architecture, and “Ilan White House”.
The Xiangyi DIY classroom is based on the concept of “simple learning, happy experience”, and the main courses are planned into three categories: plants, fragrances, and fragrances. It is hoped that through rich, interesting and diverse hand-made courses, big friends and children can learn about the types, forms, appearances and smells of plants, and make exclusive small items, so that you can experience and learn with your children and get close to nature. Suitable for friends of all sizes to play with! Plant flavors, usually natural seasonings made from the flowers, leaves, seeds, buds, roots and stems of plants, in addition to enhancing the flavor of the food and increasing appetite, as well as antibacterial, antiseptic and digestive, It mediates the function of the stomach and promotes circulation.

Henry’s House of Coffee Location l 1618 Noriega St, San Francisco, CA 94122 Project Year l 2017 Program l Curating / Exhibition / Construction
Henry’s House of Coffee is a family style cafe in San Francisco worth visiting. After visited Henry’s House of Coffee, I found it is related to my project with some similarities and it inspires me with detail design. Harg, Henry’s son, wants this cafe to be a home. For this, he designed the ceiling with slope, and trying to make it looked like the house roof. Also, according to Hrag, most coffee shops want clients stay less long so other clients can come in and get more coffee sold. However, Hrag hopes the clients to stay as long as they want, so he provides many outputs along the seatings, hence, the clients don’t need to worry running out of battery.
31
Smell is the first thing about Henry’s House of Coffee. “The smell leaves a beautifully nutty aroma over the whole neighborhood,” a guy who has been living in the area for his whole life. When Harnry and his son, Hrag is roasting the coffee been in the mornings, the smaill will go out from the both front and back doors, and go up to the foor. The whole interior space is full of smell. Sound is always there. The space isn’t very big, there are only about ten seats inside. The materials are wood, concret, and tiles for easily cleaning, so the sound bounces inside and if want to stay long for studying, this may not be a place for people who like quiet. The most space is for roasting coffee beans and making coffee and food.

The concept here is to have the clients feel like having coffee at home, and can stay as long as they want. Hrag has the ceiling sloped so it looked like a house roof from inside. Other than that, here are many details show the owners here really like the the antique stuff, but still very into create new. Concept Statement
Inspired by dandelion saw while the site investigation. Weeds is everywhere, but they are not the same, instead, they’re different from each other. It’s like this building. Abandoned building could be found all over the world. However, they are all unique due to the location, culture, people, and other elements that make them rare. When the wind blows and spread the seed from the dandelion, it spread its’ next generation to other place and thrive. Take the idea, the designer finds the seeds of the building and blow it to other place. According to the research, the native of plant, flower nurseries, and historical textile industry are the most valuable elements from this area. People come visiting, exploring, and remember here. Then they leave and share with whoever. The experience is the seed, the sharing is the wind. Sharing the experience is like blowing the seed to other place. More people will learn the place, know more about the area, treasure the native plants more. This is how the dandelion inspire the concept. In a short conclusion of above, designing an educational community center with commercial, educational, and living space, to promote the value of native plants, flower nurseries, and historical textile industry. Over time, people will see this place unique and keep coming back. The weed from the field trip all look the same, but when you look closer, that are different from eacher. Compare the dandelions from other countroes, find the difference and their own uniqueness. 37

Public Retail
Public Retail Dandelion is the inspiration of the concept, so thinking about how to merge the abstract concept to the existing building is the key. Start from analysis the human activities and the function in the existing building. Since there are four floors, so the activities and the function will be easily divided by floors. From the first floor, which can be easily access by the public, will be the public function. So the designer decided to apply the functions from public to private, along to the lower level to higher level. First floor is for retail and the second is for restaurant. These two floor are for public use and will be easily access by the public. And since the second floor is like a mezzanine, so customer can see each other very easily.
39
Third floor is for workshop space and office. It’s semi-public area. Public customers can easily access, but most of them come for specific request. For example, textile class and plant nurseries event. Students from nearby schools come for events. The classrooms are divided by moveable glass panel. So the classrooms can merge into one open place by moving the panel. Forth floor is only for hospitality. Customers can come up, but only can access by room key or the front desk staff open for them. It’s very secure and separated from public.
According to the human activities, from active public function to dormant private use, it apply the dandelion’s growing phases. Thrive in flower shape, absorb the nutrition for later phase. Dry up the petal and grow seed. Develop in the seed phase, and let the wind blow and spread. Wait in the last phase and in winter.
Apply the human activities to the four growing phase, four season, four floor. From public to private. The abstract concept well merged to the solid, realistic existing building.
Spring is the most active season, like the dandelion flower attracts animal. Summer sun keep the world running, like the dandelion develop the seed for the big picture. Fall is another season for species bloom, same as the mature seed spread out. Winter is the quiet season, the dandelion is also waiting for another growing circle.

Adjacency Matrices The building will provide seven areas for different uses. They are a garden, a roasting area, a cafe, a potting shed, a restaurant, a workshop, and a hosteling area.
The Cafe is located at the entrance and here will attract most people. With roasting area attaches to the cafe, it expands the cafe with slightly different function, but can still serve overlaping customer.
According to the four floor building, it devidies the functions from public, which is located in the lower floor, to private, which is located at the upper flor.
The potting shed serves different function from the cafe, but there will be seats around, customers can still walk around with their drinks and see the plants. The potting shed provides more seating choices with nature surround.
With the concept, different floor apply to different season. From the buttom floor, it is the thrive floor, Spring is at the first floor, and Summer is at the second floor. They're more public and more people flow. To the third floor is the concept of fall. It is the place provide classes and speeches, so fewer people will go up. The forth floor will be the winter floor. It is where guests stay and hang out.
From the potting shed, the customer can walk to the indoor garden can. In here, more plants will be provided, and consist a forest view with more Taiwan original plants. With new technology, the vegetable can be planted indoor with vertical spaces. With sill solve the space problem. Here is a demo place, but can teach students a lot about their home towm.
First floor will be the area with most people coming in and out, and according to both the concept and the adjacency matrices, the first floor will provide Garden, Roasting area, Cafe, and Potting Shed for mustlu public use.

A workshop area supplies the Roasting Area for packing and customer experiencing. Potting Shed is divided with an indoor plants growing section, a potting section for customized pot, and a section for display supplies. The Green House separates sections for plants which need direct sun, indirect sun, and vertical shelves for economic plants. Since the first level is the level that serves most customers, it should provide more welcoming spaces for customers to eat to stay. There will be a Cafe with seatings, a Coffee Bean Roasting Area with workshop space, a Potting Shed with plants exhibition, and a Green House with different native Taiwanese plants. The existing building provides three egress stairs, which took up a lot of space. Removing one closed egress stairs, and adding another staircase for visual design will lead more customers to go to the upper level. There will be a bike parking area provided next to the entrance. When the customers walk into the building, the first place they see is the Cafe, which provides beverages and food. The seating areas are next to the Cafe counter. With two different seating areas, customers can choose to sit at either the sofa area for a more casual experience or at regular tables and seating area for studying. The sofa area is next to the Cafe counter and the two exits to the outdoor garden. The study area, which can also be casual seatings, is next to the Green House, so it provides a more quiet visual experience.
On the other side of the cafe Counter, a Coffee bean roasting area is provided. The roasting engages the sense of seeing, hearing, and smelling. When the industrial roasting machine is working, it creates white noise as the background, and the smell of the roasting beans will spread through out the building. With more seating provided around the roasting area, customers can see the roasting process. At other times, a workshop for roasting perfect coffee beans will be provided for customers. Farther inside the building, the Potting Shed provides the atmosphere of a forest. Indoor plants are on the shelves, air plants hang down from the ceiling, and pots and garden products are displayed next to the storage. Other than just selling plants, consultants for gardening are here too. With a few seats and tables provided, customers can sit and experience the plants, or can walk around the potting shed enjoy their drinks. On the other side of the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, the Green House features more plants. Compared with the Potting Shed, the Green House has more heavy duty gardening functions. For example, with more shelves it provides vertical space for plants to grow, the water system will make the space more moist.

Education 2016 to Present
Master of Fine Arts Interior Design and Architecture - Academy of Art University Participate in multiple projects to build and test skills using various design tools. For example: used Revit to complete lighting designs for cafes, hotels and offices. Experienced using 3DS Max for furniture design and rendering. Thesis Project: Story House Story House is a renovation project of an existing modern building in Beidou Township, in the central Taiwan. The project seeks to re-attract residences and visitors to the area as through education and innovation of the area industries, such as nurseries of local flora, and textiles. This innovation and education can reinvigorate the industries, as well as educate future generation on the importance of local culture and the native flora of Taiwan. Since Dandelion is a very common plant in the area, and very strong for the all season, so it represent the Taiwan original plant. And I use it as images and the symbol of the building. Since Dandelion is all tear and there are many different plants and flower thrive in different time, so apply the four season: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter to each floor. Also categorize different levels from public to private, according the human activities.
2009 to 2014
Bachelor of Architecture - Feng Chia University Analyzed a local issue and identified a suitable solution. Designed an animal shelter for stray animals in Taiwan. Considered the issue as a whole by combining an educational facility as part of the shelter to encourage adoption as well as understanding the importance of this location for civic projects.
Experience 2018 Dec. to 2019 Jan.
2018 Aug. to 2018 Oct.
2017
Architecture @ Zero 2019 Competition - The Meridian The Meridian a living architecture inspired by a found Gray whale spine, sun-bleached, embedded in wind-swept dunes along the local coastline. The Design Team envisions activating this spinal form into a living pathway that feeds and ties the project together. Much like the practice of Kinesiology, which works to balance and unblock energy channels in the body, we envision our meridian to act much the same way, unifying the building’s educational purpose to its function.
Internship - Galleria Tile Assisted with general office tasks, sample room organization, sample ordering design assistance, and pricing and sales.
Contestant in Architecture Competition - Paris Riverside Restaurtant Led a three person team in a design completion to create a Parisian riverside restaurant. Dealt with the challenges of working with an international team remotely and in different timezones. Acted as a translator for team members who could not speak English.
