Olivetti Valentine

1 Ettore Sottsass designed the Valentine typewriter for Olivetti in 1969 to be an “anti-machine machine,” for use “anyplace but an office”. The Valentine expresses the mood of its time: goodbye to the bulky cast-iron housings of old typewriters, hello to the new mobility of a light, modern, plastic casing made from ABS. 1

Affinity Mapping Cycling and locking

Behaviour I found that cyclists should bring a lot of equipment every time out. Such as two locks, helmet and backpack. Otherwise there are many steps to lock the bike, and then the bikes side by side everywhere would be eyesores in the city.

3

Design challenge A device to simplify the cyclist’s outfit and amenity. 1

Affinity Mapping Luggage on the go

Interactions I have observed that people who normally one hand while pulling a luggage. Two hands on both sides of a pulling a luggage. Then two luggages operation will encounter great difficulties even no more hand to hold the other stuff. When there are more luggages would need a trolley to support. Design challenge A device can support people to easily pull more than two luggages on the way and easily to control.

Locker Design Lock Design A new lock design can make cyclists easy to carry on, otherwise it also improve the shortage problem. Cyclist still have to bring lock to go out, it’s not quite convenient. Integrated Bicycle lock Let bicycle can lock itself, cyclists do not bring locks outside. But this way do not solve the parking problem, still make an eyesore in the city. Sharing Bicycle System Cyclists do not need to buy the bike, just pay for how much they use, also the government can manage the bike parking problem. New City Locking System This new city locker system should be easy to use by cyclist and do not be a barrier on the sideway.

Analysis above some solutions, I focus on designing the new City Locking System, it’s would be a big challenge to me, but it’s also would be a big change to cyclists, a convenient and easy system, do not bring anything to go out cycling just your bicycle, and passers stop being bothered by the crowded bicyle on sideway.

Purpose : Show how you captured the feedback of others relating to your design. 1

Some bikes do not have a bike supporer, so if this system provide this service gonna be better.

2

If this system can just open it by foot, so that cyclists do not need to squat the body.

3

The open hole will hurt who wear the high heel, the design could be a gap not a hole.

4

The bicycle parking sign can be a light to show what the situation is, and also can be a street floor light to let passby mind it. Can connect to your smartphone.
