Module 1
Toyo Ito Through my design process, every part of the detail will become essential keys to constructure the whole Pavilion. The concept ideas of the pavilion is actually differnetly scale of square space randomly overlap on each other and then extend the lines to four sides. Then the 2d patterns will be seprated into five parts which represent the top roof and four walls sepreately. The four smaller surfaces will be folded around the square.
In rhino, I first trace the 2d pattern on the surface with polylines. Then I trim the lineworks into five parts and group them. Then I folded the four smaller parts around the top surface to create the solid square. Afterthat I extruded every line to show the thickness and height. Then I follow the reference pictures to trace the linework to create the glazing system and the solid parts in the structure.

Making solid part of the pavilion, the white solid in the model is extruded by tracing lines on the structure.

The most obivious circulation paths in the space are started with four entrances on each side of the pavilion. The circulation paths will follow the seats and bar area and finished on the other side of entrance. To be more easy to illustrate the circulation space, two different colors describe the primary and secondary circulation space.
The furniture such as seats and tables deifine the thershold in this space. The space in this area is divided by the activities of the people. And the activities of the people is mainly defined by the arrangement of the furnitures in the space. Which the pavilion has been divided into frequently and rarely used space.
Three different elements which is the glass, solid and structure to constitute overlap with each other to build up the whole pavilion.

The shape of the surface which I chosed to be my final one is the last list, which is two 3d patterns with on point attractor of one surface. The shape I was using as a basic element is two different height prymaids combined into one square box and the other one is the hollow prymaid by uisng the weaverbird.

The hollow triangular shaped structure on one facade allow more light and air to come in through the waffle structure and also capable the ability of diffusion the sun light. The other side with two different height prymaids as a group to form the other facade of the whole structure. The two different patterns will create the boundary in the middle space with light and dark.

The Waffle Structure is constructured by simple trapezoid changing the form from bottom to the top. Which create the sense of time travel when people entering the space and facing the to the top direction.

Strong Base at the bottom and decrease in size towards the top of the volume.

The skeleton shaped structure create a three dwellings that connected as a whole. Three welcoming entrance towards to the exterior create a semi-public space with the unclosed boundaries. After entering the space, people can enjoy the interior sapce where built on the second floor with a stair towards to the roof garden. In addition, the three entarnce can be move throught the whole structure and entering into another more private space, a private courtyard for each family.

Higher part on the edge will make internal space more privacy.
Rhino grasshopper design process To create boolean iterations before using grasshopper to mesh the spheres or other shapes using a attraction point as basic, and adjusting the position to reshape the polygon. Using boolean difference to booleand the shape which dig out the space. All of the four iterations, I used the command platonic Icosahedron to trim the structure into a interesting shape.
The skeletal structure divide the whole space into two side, where each side divided into three parts which creating more semi-public space.

The internal spaces with three tunnels through the whole structure that create the circulations in the space.
All the space inside of this structure are connected.
This part of the model, connect the hollow space of the model, with the help of this, this whole model looks more integrity.

The materiality of the pavilion

The snow mountain-shaped cladding system using the material of fibre glass allows for the reflection of the surrounding environments.

The threshold at the top of the pavilion creates three holes also allowed rainwater and light to come through and collect the water at the bottom pond which create light and shadow, reflect on the waffle structure.

The threshold at the bottom landscape create water feature and seating space for people to rest and having conversations.
The timber waffle structure with three main coloumns to support the whole structure. The waffle structure is also good for leeting the sun come through with nice effect of light and shadow. The waffle structure is designed into mountain-shaped to keep the same language of the whole design.
The snow mountation-shaped landscape share the same language with the roof of the pavilion. Creating a sense of blending the pavilion in the environment.
The primary circulation space with three main access is defined by the three supporting columns of the pavilion.
The slope on the lnadscape creates the ciruculation paths guiding people walk though the whole pavilion.
