Welcome Back Happy Munkey Fam! The Happy Munkey crew is bringing you another volume of standout Latinx individuals in the cannabis industry. There are a lot of Latinx people making huge strides in the cannabis industry and we plan to continue shining light on our entire Latinx cannaFam in future issues!

Jessie Alvarez

Jessie is a proud Salvadoran based in Bay Area, California. With a range of projects that span from extraction to retail, Jessie Alvarez is an all-star in the California cannabis community. From an early age, Jessie was mentored by her brother to learn the art of cannabis extraction. Today, among other things, Jessie is the COO at Joyus Recreation and Wellness Group, a cannabis manufacturing facility in West Oakland with a micro-business license that provides services from cultivation to distribution.

Luis Vega

Luis Vega is the CEO and Founder of Wepa Farms, a growing venture dedicated to quality American Hemp farming in Connecticut. At the root of Vega’s business success is his Puerto Rican heritage and entrepreneurial drive. He is a true advocate for people of color, especially encouraging people from Latin America and those who identify as Hispanic, to get involved in ownership positions in the rapidly growing cannabis and hemp market.

Leila Soveron

Leila Soveron Ovando was born and raised in San Francisco's Mission district and has been in the culinary industry for 20 years. Being a first-generation Salvadorian /Mexican/ Italian she had the opportunity to participate and work in a variety of community organizations. Leila advocates for cannabis accessibility on behalf of Latino immigrants and has been selected to launch a 'cannabis culinary program' at Mission Language and Vocational School to help Latinxs find roles in the cannabis industry as chefs, extractors, and beyond!
