Through a wooden door the Walled Gardens are discovered, with a sunken central lawn, mature fruit trees, roses and water features. Couples may choose to hold a blessing in the sunken garden, surrounded by herbaceous beds of aromatic rosemary, lavender and bay trees. Between mistletoe entwined apple and plum trees, a small paved area provides the ideal space for musicians to serenade a drinks reception. As the sun sets, discreet lighting illuminates the garden while overhead spotlights make evening use of the garden possible too.

Our recommended local caterers know the venue, with inside knowledge of what works best. THE

History The estate’s rich history dates back to 1086 when it was a royal manor in the reign of Edward the Confessor. Later, the manor was given by William the Conqueror to the nuns of St Mary’s Abbey. The current house, with elegant Jacobean features, was built in 1620 on the site of a former monastery. Imagine striking photographs in front of the large, ornate fireplace and the bride making her dramatic entrance down the grand staircase.

THE

Grounds

Through the gates and up the stately, tree-lined path, Froyle Park is set in the heart of picturesque Hampshire countryside. The vast grounds and rolling hills that surround the manor house are fringed with sheep-dotted fields, while the front entrance boasts an immaculately manicured garden. Spectacular and serene, the park is also home to many jewel-coloured peacocks. According to Eastern tradition these dazzling birds, who dreamily roam the grounds, are bearers of good luck for wedded couples. Skincare For flawless skin, before you go anywhere near a make-up brush, cut down on refined sugar and increase your intake of essential fatty acids around six months before your wedding. Avoiding facials in the three weeks leading up to your big day will also minimise the risk of breakouts or adverse reactions to products. Also, get lots of sleep and drink plenty of water.

30

A top tip to reduce puffiness around the eyes on your wedding day is to lightly steep two chamomile teabags and leave them to chill in the fridge. Apply these to closed eyes for five minutes when you wake up and use eye cream from the fridge for bright, wide-awake eyes.

Make-up Long-lasting make-up for the big day is half about preparation and half about the right products. Massage in a moisturiser with SPF suited to your skin type, followed by a good base primer, and leave to sink in for five minutes before applying foundation. Also, use an eye primer to make sure your eyeshadow lasts all day and into the night. The most important consideration when planning your look is that the camera (and flash) fades away make-up. Although you don’t want to look in the mirror and see a stranger or walk down the aisle feeling like someone else, if you wear only the same amount of make-up as you do each day, you could look a little washed out, especially if you’re wearing a white gown. The best thing to do is wear 30% more blush than you normally do and accentuate your eyes or lips a little more. For Indian weddings, make sure your make-up is distinct for each part of the celebrations. Contrast a natural look and pastel shades at a civil ceremony with bright colours at your Sangeet and Garba nights. This will ensure that the chronology of your wedding is clear in photos…and you’ll get to show off three gorgeous looks! During the ceremony, if you’re wearing a veil then avoid lip gloss or dark lipstick. Instead, moisturise your lips, blot and apply a lip tint. This will give you colour without transferring it to the material.

Hair Whilst making sure your skin is looking great, keep your hair in top condition as well by getting it trimmed every 6-8 weeks. You could also try using a deep conditioner at home once a week for ultimately soft and nourished locks. As you flick through magazines considering your bridal ‘do’, remember that the most important concern is comfort. Don’t choose a scalp-tight style with hundreds of clips and pins if you’ll have a headache all day and be a grouchy bride! Do make sure, however, that your coiffure lasts all day, through the photos and into the night. Invest in a good hairspray and make use of a trial to test longevity. Remember that, particularly if it’s humid, long hair in curls will often drop and look untidy – think of all the curl-crushing hugs you’ll be sharing with guests and the moves you’ll be pulling on the dance floor. Consider an up do to avoid limp locks. Whether you covet diamante glitter or pretty petals, why not add a little extra something to your hairdo? A tiara or tikka will make you feel like a princess while fresh flowers are naturally beautiful. Ask your florist to create bespoke, fresh hair corsages that match your bouquets, for you and your best girls.

Top Tip TO AVOID HEAVY MAKE-UP, EYELASH EXTENSIONS ARE A REALLY GREAT WAY TO ACCENTUATE YOUR EYES. THERE ARE VARIOUS DIFFERENT TYPES, SO HAVE A CHAT WITH YOUR MAKE-UP ARTIST AT YOUR CONSULTATION ABOUT WHAT WILL SUIT YOU.

31

BRIDAL

BEAUTY

SCHOOL

Book a trial It’s really important to book a trial hair and make-up appointment, so that you’re not rushed or stressed on the day. Take along your veil, tiara and any other accessories you intend to wear, so that your look can be perfected exactly as it will be when you wed. If you gather together a scrapbook of pictures of how you would like your hair and make-up to look, it will really help the professionals to visualise your ideas. Indian brides should make sure they take along their dupatta and tikka to their consultation. The shape of your face, hairline and colouring will affect the overall look, as well as the make-up palette you choose. Also, you will get a preview of how comfortable your outfit will feel on the day…many brides are surprised at how heavy their gorgeous dupattas can be and you will be able to make amendments if you find you’re getting a stiff neck. A good idea is to have your hair and make-up trial before you have your pre-wedding shoot with your photographer – that way you can see what your hair and make-up looks like in your professional photos.

Top Tip KEEP OIL-FREE COMPACT POWDER OR BLOTTING PAPER, CONCEALER AND YOUR LIPSTICK OR GLOSS IN YOUR HANDBAG – OR IN YOUR MAID-OF-HONOUR’S BAG – FOR TOUCH-UPS TO KEEP YOU PICTURE-PERFECT FOR YOUR WHOLE INCREDIBLE DAY.

BLOOMS

Beautiful Blooms

FRESH AND FRAGRANT, SYMBOLIC OF YOUTH, BEAUTY AND HAPPINESS, DRESS YOUR DAY BEAUTIFULLY WITH FANTASTIC FLOWERS THAT ACCENTUATE YOUR THEME AND COLOURS... Before you visit your florist, it’s good to have some idea of what you want for your wedding floristry. Pick up a couple of wedding flowers magazines and cut out pictures of bouquets that catch your eye. Note down the names of flowers that appeal to you and match your colour scheme or theme. To get you started, we offer some floral inspiration and talk to the experts for their top tips… Blue is a popular choice for wedding colour schemes, conveying calm waters and clear skies. Soft, blue hydrangea, dainty nigella and cornflowers are all striking choices to incorporate into your flower selection. Think about a complementary colour - blue flowers look particularly beautiful if accented with a white bloom. Classic white roses or calla lilies break up the blue, like surf on a wave, for a gorgeous display. At both Northbrook Park and Froyle Park, hues of blue perfectly coordinate with the regal peacocks who stroll throughout the grounds. If pink is your colour, big bouquets of pretty roses are a classic choice. Then, a single pink rose buttonhole simply, yet effectively, links the bridal party. If you want something a little different, consider pink ranunculi, tulips or pretty sweet peas. Pink flowers also work perfectly as part of a vintage or country garden theme. Choose soft pinks and team them with greens and creams. Hair circlets and wrist corsages for your bridesmaids and flower girls are

also classically beautiful for these themes – offering plenty of opportunities for a fantastically floral bridal procession. For a summery, yellow scheme, go bold with sunflowers. Dot daisies between these big blooms for a striking contrast of size, texture and colour. Yellow freesias are a delicate alternative to incorporate yellow into your bouquets and buttonholes, as are daffodils or pretty little narcissi. Yellow is a bright, bold choice. Flowers in this colour look lovely with deep reds and oranges, but why not think about a lime green or hot pink accent as a funky option? It is an unfortunate fact that your wedding flowers will not last much beyond the big day itself. However, if you choose flowers with a signature scent, every time you smell that fragrance again you will be whisked right back to the magical ‘I dos’ and first dance. Some pretty flowers with a gorgeous perfume are frangipani, sweet peas, lavender and jasmine. All flowers are beautiful, but, if you do get completely baffled by all the floral choices, there are some flowers which are traditional wedding choices. Roses, orchids, peonies and hydrangea all make for wonderful bouquets and displays, but a trusted florist will certainly be able to offer advice if you’re confused by the seemingly endless options.

WHITE LILAC FLOWERS

After an apprenticeship at the most noted classical floral business in London, and travelling to Naples, Italy to establish her own shop, Fiona returned to England to specialise in her favourite part of floristry – wedding and venue flowers. A trusted florist for both Northbrook Park and Froyle Park, Fiona’s advice for wedding flowers is:

Keeli & Jade at White Lilac are passionate about flowers and with their love for romance and weddings they will create your perfect day. Keeli & Jade’s workshop is an inspiring space to meet, where they design their fabulous arrangements which add opulence, style and breath-taking beauty to your venue. White Lilac wedding flowers are bespoke designed for each of their brides & grooms to perfectly suit your day.

To p t i p

“With decoration being one of the most important parts of your wedding plans, it is important to meet your florist as soon as possible. This is the part when all your ideas will be drawn together and a picture of the day created for you. Your wedding flowers should reflect the way you feel and your florist will be able to guide you.”

To p t i p

“We always suggest that reusing your ceremony flowers in your wedding breakfast room will enhance the look and help with budgeting. For example, two stunning pedestals to frame your ceremony can then be moved to either side of your top table.”

THE TIME OF YEAR WILL HAVE A HUGE EFFECT ON THE FLOWERS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY. ALTHOUGH WITH FLOWERS GROWN IN GREENHOUSES YOU CAN ORDER BLOOMS OUT OF SEASON, THOSE THAT COMPLEMENT THE TIME OF YEAR NOT ONLY LOOK THEIR BEST, BUT ARE MORE AFFORDABLE TOO.

She and her team offer expert advice with lots of unique suggestions for stunning wedding flowers. Sue recommends making the most of your gorgeous bouquets:

To p t i p

“Why not use your fabulous bridal and bridesmaids bouquets as your top table arrangement after your ceremony instead of leaving them on a forgotten shelf somewhere? All you need to do is ask your florist to provide vases to put them in! Simple but stunning.”

BUDS FLORISTRY

Run by floral designer, Anna, Buds Floristry offers high quality flowers with a friendly, professional and reliable service. Working to your budget and incorporating your ideas, Buds Floristry will ensure your wedding flowers are exactly as you dreamed.

Eden Blooms specialise in wedding floristry and have been shortlisted for a Wedding Industry Award in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and is the only florist is Farnham in the Good Florist Guide 2014. Familiar with Northbrook Park and Froyle Park, the floristry team hold their consultations on site, so you can walk around and discuss your floral options at every stage of the big day. Full of fantastic advice, Eden Blooms’ top tip for wedding floristry is:

To p t i p

“Try and ensure that some (if not all) of your table arrangements are not attached to the props they are displayed in or on. That way they can be given away to your guests at the end of the evening or following morning. Even better if they are in some kind of container or hand-tied. It makes a beautiful gift for people and means there is no wastage!”

To p t i p

“Before meeting your florist, create a mood board of ideas for your day. Pinterest is a great tool to help you choose colours and flowers that you love to show your florist to help them build a vision of your day.”

Sharing your

news

Engagement photos not only provide you with a set of beautiful pictures to celebrate your news and share with friends and family, but they help you to feel at ease in front of the camera. This will result in a pictureperfect wedding day, as you feel comfortable and confident.

T H E One

Choosing the right photographer for you is essential, and arguably the most important decision for your day. It’s their job to preserve memories for you and your loved ones. Start by selecting the style you want, from the traditional to the more creative and increasingly popular reportage shots. Booking your photographer is not something to rush into – do your research and find ‘the one’. Spend time reviewing their portfolios and make sure that you meet up too – it is important to feel comfortable with them. Referrals and testimonials can help to confirm your decision, along with seeing if they have any awards or press coverage. Know your price limit upfront and make sure that you agree exactly what’s included within your package.

F I R S T Look

An increasingly popular trend, modern couples are opting to set up a first look photo opportunity ahead of the ceremony and away from the wedding party. The first time you lock eyes with your loved one is a tender and intimate experience, which can be best captured in private with these photographs.

Practice makes

perfect

You want your hair and make-up to be perfect, achieving a flawless look throughout the day for all your photographs, so make sure that you have a trial first and that you are completely happy with the results. It can prove very useful to take a camera along to your trial too, as some foundations are highly reflective and can appear white on film. Your make-up should last all day, so put it to the test ahead of your wedding; you don’t want to find out on the day that is has faded and you have not looked your bridal best on camera. Ensure that your make-up is waterproof too, and that you take some along for touch-ups on the day.

Calm and

collected

Always allow for last minute emergencies and start the day at least one hour ahead of schedule: if you run over, you won’t be stressed and your photos can start on time. If you finish earlier, well that just means more photos of a happy bride and groom!

49

PICTURE

Wh o, w hat,

where, when?

One of the most useful things you can do to help both the photographer and yourself is to create a timeline of the day. Decide when and where the photos will take place, allowing plenty of time in the schedule. Obviously things can change on the day but it is useful to have an advance running order to keep things organised. A less-stressed bride is a happy bride… …and a happy bride makes for great photos!

50

PERFECTION

Location, location , location When choosing your wedding venue, think about the locations of where your wedding photography could take place. Consider both in and outdoor options, as you can’t always rely on the weather! Take into account lighting and ensure that your photographer visits the venue ahead of the big day. Could props complement the setting? From wellies in a field to releasing lanterns into the night sky, props are a great way to add personality and create some really unique photos.

Delegation is

the key

Stay stress-free and looking great in your pictures; get help. Let someone else take care of things for you, whether it’s a coordinator, friend or maid of honour. All questions should be directed to that person and you will be able to calmly concentrate on being beautiful for the camera.

Relax and

enjoy yourselves The best photos are those of a happy bride and groom, so just relax and enjoy every second of your special day.

Relive the

action

Why not also capture your priceless day on video? There are a number of captivating styles available; from a creative cinematic wedding film, to a stylish, contemporary story of your day. Your videographer will have lots of ideas for inspiration. Video allows you to relive the atmosphere – his aunts giggling after a few Champagnes; your friends and family cheering as you enter the reception as newlyweds; your dad’s emotional speech. Remember how your new husband kissed you at the altar and the sound of the congregation singing your chosen hymns. Although you will definitely want still images to frame and keep in an album, remember that your wedding is an event, not a single moment. Days, months, years afterwards, a professional video will take you right back to the action.

YOUR

AS YOU PLAN EVERY INTRICATE DETAIL OF YOUR WEDDING, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A TOASTMASTER OR MASTER OF CEREMONIES TO HELP YOUR DAY RUN SEAMLESSLY?

54

DAY

OF

DREAMS

Day of Dreams

Your

r te s a tm s a o T e th to it e v a Le The toastmaster, or master of ceremonies, takes on numerous roles and responsibilities during your celebration, but their overall duty is to ensure your day is effortlessly memorable. From the initial planning to the wedding itself, the toastmaster ensures every stage of your wedding runs smoothly, allowing you and your guests to relax for the whole of your special day. Northbrook Park and Froyle Park wedding couples often choose the services of experienced toastmaster; Iain Pompei. Familiar with both venues, Iain pays meticulous attention to detail while maintaining an unobtrusive presence, so that you can enjoy your wedding as you have planned it. From liaising with suppliers to meeting the bride and groom on arrival with a glass of Champagne, Iain takes us through your wedding day… My day as toastmaster begins before the arrival of the bridal party and guests. I liaise with the events team and your caterers, discussing your day through its entirety. I then walk around the venue, checking that all the carefully planned details have come together; the decorations are up, the games are in the garden and the chairs are available for the older family members. After talking to the florists, confirming that all the flowers are in place, I check that the ceremony music is set up and is ready to play, or liaise with the musicians and help them to prepare. In your reception room, I take care of all the little details that will ensure it runs smoothly. I hide the presents for the groom’s speech, make sure your guest book is available…and that the pen works! After testing the music and setting it up, I check the cake and place the knife next to it – preparing everything for those memorable photographs.

YOUR

DAY

OF

DREAMS

As your toastmaster, I also help the ushers with the seating plan, relaxing the readers and calming the nervous groom. I often find my experience in wedding attire comes in handy as I tie the ties and often pin the buttonholes for the groomsmen! As the guests arrive, I welcome them before arranging the bridal processional party and sending them down the aisle. The next bit is up to you! When the ceremony is complete, I greet you as the newly married couple with a glass of Champagne and escort you through to the stunning grounds for the drinks reception. As your guests follow, I begin to collect their cards and gifts so they can relax and enjoy the occasion. Liaising with the catering manager and staff, canapés and Champagne are served to all. I circulate throughout the mingling guests, informing them of the itinerary and table plan. So that you can continue to enjoy your day without the concern of timekeeping, I keep an eye on the clock, liaising with the photographer and videographer. I assist with the photographs, injecting a bit of fun whilst rounding up your family and guests for your planned shots. The photo list is completed effortlessly. After calling the guests to the receiving line (if requested) and once they are seated, the top table is announced and led to their places. I then prepare for the grand entrance of the bride and groom, “Please be upstanding for the most important couple of the day... the BRIDE & GROOM”. The couple is led through the tables to their seats, always to rapturous applause. I make sure that I coordinate what can be a difficult task to complete for a busy wedding couple – circulation of the guest book. I start the music and help prepare for any entertainment during the wedding breakfast, as well as chatting with the guests, acting on behalf of the hosts; making sure everyone is relaxed and enjoying the day. When it’s time for the speeches, I introduce each speaker and stay close by (with a tissue to hand, just in case). Once the cake is cut, the ladies are always desperate for the throwing of the bouquet which is a lot of fun and helps the guests to really get into the party mood.

}

My role as toastmaster almost complete, I gather all the guests around the dance floor. Paying one final tribute to the couple, it’s then time for my final act…to introduce the first dance.

}

WAY

A Country W E D D I N G TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES…HOW DID YOU MEET? We first met in year 4 and ended up being in the same class in year 6 (where I was bullied by Jo and her friends!). We went to different secondary schools and lost contact, but ten years later I got back in contact with Jo via Facebook, reminiscing about a hula hoop prank she did at school. We then met up at the Dog and Fox in Wimbledon and Jo got me a summer job at Samsung. We officially started going out in July that year, 2008.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? I arranged a long weekend away in Cambridge for our 4th anniversary. Typically, it decided to rain most of the time. On the Friday, we went into the heart of Cambridge and, after an evening meal, it continued to rain as we were walking around so Jo wanted to head back to the hotel. I’d planned a surprise punting trip down the river so had to persuade Jo to stay. Luckily, the skies cleared when the punting ride started. After a 45 minute tour down the river, the punter left us alone under a weeping willow, which is where I popped the question...with a ring box full of hearts!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE NORTHBROOK PARK FOR YOUR VENUE? Northbrook Park is a beautiful venue with everything you could need in one place. It’s set in gorgeous surroundings where you have plenty of great photo opportunities and beautiful peacocks roaming around. The Orangery room was just perfect for the wedding breakfast where it gave a slight outdoor feel with big French doors along the whole of one side leading out to the garden. The option to bring in our own caterers was a big plus. We could also bring our own booze with no corkage! And the cottages on-site were fantastic, so everyone could stay to the end and meet up the following day.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? We had DJ Lee Russell who really took control of the night. He started off during our wedding breakfast where he took time to get to know our guests and ask for song requests. He got everyone involved – managing to get virtually all our guests and staff up doing the conga! He also organised a Mr and Mrs game which was very entertaining and went down very well with our guests.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES OR SURPRISES ON THE DAY? Josephine’s mum and brother both wrote their own poems to read out during the ceremony. We had kids’ photos of me and Josephine throughout our childhood and also a quiz about us for our guests to answer as a table during the wedding breakfast. Also, our favours were personalised m&ms with our faces on matching our colour scheme.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? Mine was the first moment I saw Josephine walking down the aisle! (Cheesy!)

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? We went to Kenya for a 5 night safari in Amboseli, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara, followed by 4 nights relaxing on the beach in Mombasa.

Groom: make sure your speech is completed one month before the big day so you can read it over and over. Just get down and do it.

A British T H E M E HOW DID YOU MEET? We met at work. After 12 months of working on the same project together, Lee finally got around to asking me out for dinner. The rest is history.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? Lee arranged a surprise weekend away in Bruges, Belgium, a country where I have fond memories from living as a child. After wowing me with a beautiful hotel and enjoying a few Belgian beers for courage, he produced the ring.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE NORTHBROOK PARK FOR YOUR VENUE? Northbrook is a stunning wedding venue and ticked several boxes for us; beautiful reception rooms, attractive gardens for a summer wedding and close proximity to the church where we were getting married.

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? We wanted a simple, elegant and classic British feel to the wedding. We incorporated our chosen flowers; white and vendella roses, into the fresh white stationery design. My dress was designed by a British duo, made from an ivory satin with a unique embossed rose design, which I paired with champagne and ivory lace dresses for the bridesmaids.

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? Fusion Catering Solutions formed a huge part of the success of our wedding day. They provided a first class service from start to finish; excellent quality food, stunning presentation and service with a smile.

WHAT WAS YOUR MUSIC LIKE? We hired a brilliant jazz band, Allwood and the Inuit. They were superb and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the live music. They even coordinated a ‘dance-off’ at the request of the bridesmaids!

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES OR SURPRISES ON THE DAY? We filled the gardens with large candles placed in vases and hung heart shaped tea light holders from the trees. When they were all lit in the evening they made the walled garden seem even more magical. We also hung picture frames from a tree to encourage comedy photo poses. By the end of the evening, many of the women had replaced their high heels with flip flops that we’d provided.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? Seeing the church filled with all our family and friends when we turned round to face the congregation once we were married. We felt so fortunate to be surrounded by such great friends as we were making our lifelong commitment.

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? After our wedding we enjoyed a fantastic honeymoon in Indonesia. We re-visited Jakarta, where I had spent time during my childhood, and then indulged ourselves during a long stay in Bali - exploring the varying landscapes, learning of local traditions and relaxing after the excitement of the wedding.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? Plan! I’m a self-confessed planner and we both found that keeping a careful track of wedding activities to be done during the build-up ensured nothing was forgotten.

HOW DID YOU MEET? Michael is from Australia but had decided to leave Melbourne and spend 2 years living and working in London, where I was living at the time. We both went to view a room in the same house-share in Clapham. Whilst Michael was offered the room, I remained in touch with the girls who owned the house and became friends. I was introduced to Michael through them.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? I had moved out to Australia to be with Michael when his UK visa expired and we’d been living in Melbourne for about 2 years. On a Saturday afternoon in May, I returned to our flat having had lunch with friends to find Michael waiting with an open suitcase on the bed. He told me that we were leaving for a mystery destination! The next morning we flew to Port Douglas in Queensland, where Michael had booked us into a beautiful spa hotel - a total surprise! After several failed attempts (Michael tried to get me to go for a walk on the beach but I wanted a bath. He then put the ring in a Champagne glass, but I failed to notice the ring and just drank the Champagne), Michael got down on one knee and proposed in the hotel room.

HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR DREAM VENUE? We were planning our wedding from Australia which was very difficult! We knew we wanted to get married in Surrey, which is where my parents live. I fell in love with Northbrook Park when I saw it online and loved the beautiful Vine room with the gold and archways and fireplace. My mum went to visit on our behalf and spoke glowingly about it and sent lots of photos – we were won over!

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? Our theme was dusky pink/vintage, while highlighting the importance of our story and intercontinental relationship. The decorations were pink and ivory – I love pink roses and lilies. Our table names were places in Australia and the UK that meant a lot to us and represented our relationship and on the tables we had Aussie/UK dictionaries and disposable cameras. Our table plan was a large board with maps of the UK and Australia.

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES OR SURPRISES ON THE DAY? A lot of Michael’s family were unable to make the journey from Australia and Michael had been disappointed by this. I secretly arranged for Michael’s cousin, Adam (like a brother to him), to fly out to the UK two days before the wedding. I’d told Michael we were going to pick up a family friend from the airport and he was totally shocked when Adam walked through arrivals. It was a great surprise and meant a lot to Michael.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE MOMENT? Our favourite moment was the speeches. Given our unique situation and the fact I’d been living away from my family for the past 2 years, the speeches were very special and moving. My father spoke beautifully about how proud he was of me and the journey I’d been on. He kept using the term ‘wings to fly and roots to grow’.

WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE FOR COUPLES PLANNING THEIR OWN WEDDING? Don’t sweat the small stuff! Also, take some time during the day to step back from everything and have a few private moments with your wife or husband – just go somewhere quiet and look around and jump up and down and squeal ‘we’re married’! It's easy to forget to do this and is a moment you will never get back.

A B I G Classy W E D D I N G HOW DID YOU MEET? We first met at Royal Ascot Ladies Day – I was there with my family and he was with friends. He says that he ‘spotted’ me across the course, but we didn’t actually speak until we saw each other on the train! We live in the same area and used to catch the same train into London, so it’s there that we got to know each other a bit better. We were together for three years before we got married.

HOW DID HE PROPOSE? When we were in Barbados, Duncan organised a candle lit dinner on the beach (stunning setting) and got down on one knee. At first I thought he’d fallen off his chair, then after fumbling around in his pocket he couldn’t get the box open, so it became quite a funny moment! Of course I said yes… and burst into tears!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE NORTHBROOK PARK FOR YOUR WEDDING VENUE? We fell in love instantly with Northbrook. It’s close to us and it felt right getting married in our local area. The grounds are stunning and the peacocks were an instant hit. The exclusivity of the venue was something important to us and the cottages worked well for our guests.

DID YOU HAVE A THEME? Because we had a lot of guests and large bridal and groom parties, I really just wanted to keep things simple and stylish with a classy feel.

WHAT DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT? We had a steel band playing for the drinks reception, following on from the proposal in Barbados as well as Duncan’s family being from the Caribbean. We then had disco and live band in the evening...the live music was an instant dance floor filler!

WHAT CATERING DID YOU CHOOSE FOR YOUR WEDDING? We had our wedding breakfast in the Orangery. Fusion Catering took charge and they were fabulous. Our menu was designed (deliciously) by them: we had a starter of smoked salmon wrapped around salmon mousse with a rocket centre, beetroot glaze and baby pickled vegetables. Then the main was lemon and garlic marinated chicken with spring onion mash, beans and carrots. For dessert we had Sicilian lemon tart with a compote of blackcurrants and crème fraîche. …This was also a very popular part of the day!

WERE THERE ANY SPECIAL TOUCHES OR SURPRISES ON THE DAY? Well…my new husband singing Elvis as he started his speech was certainly a surprise! “Wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you” got some big cheers from the guests and I will remember it forever.

WHERE DID YOU GO FOR YOUR HONEYMOON? We went to Singapore for two nights and stayed in the beautiful Raffles Hotel. We then flew on to Bali where we stayed for two evenings in an elephant lodge. It was totally unique and an amazing experience. We then finished up on a beautiful beach resort in Bali. It was total luxury...we had our own butler, private villa and pool. Never to be forgotten!!
