Do I need a Yoga Blanket? What actually IS a yoga blanket? Who uses a yoga blanket? A Yoga blanket is one of those quite important items that many people in today’s yoga classes seem to have forgotten. While a yoga blanket is quite an important *prop* in a yoga class many people don’t realise the need to have one, not until they find themselves caught unawares in the middle of their yoga class. A yoga blanket is actually used for many different types of yoga poses as well as used for the meditation before and after a class. It really is one of the most important yoga *props* there is. You can use a blanket during yoga class to help raise the hips above the knees whenever a seated pose calls for it. It can also be used as a cushion for any reclining poses you may be doing during your yoga class. A yoga blanket can also be used just as a blanket – to help keep you warm while you are practicing the final relaxation during your yoga class. You could be thinking that yoga blankets are useless, but you’ll be surprised to find they have a lot of uses during your yoga class. Yoga blankets can be quite beautiful to look at and there are so many different designs and colours available.
Yoga blankets are very affordable and range from basic to designer in styles, materials and prices. The only down side to buying a yoga blanket is they aren’t as readily available as you might think, so you are probably best buying your Yoga blanket through the gym or studio where you take your yoga classes, or look for a retailer online. Remember that quality is important; you want a durable and long lasting blanket. While you are looking for your yoga blanket you may find you are offered several alternatives, this could include a choice of prints and colours to fabrics and they way the blankets are made. You’ll find more *traditional* factory manufactured blankets right through to more environmentally friendly or *green* blankets. You can always buy a couple and then decide as you attend your yoga classes, which one is best suited to you. The three most popular yoga classes are Hatha Yoga, Power yoga and
Bodyart. Hatha is the most commonly performed yoga and is pretty much what you think of when you think *Yoga*. Power yoga is more of an aerobic style yoga with an emphasis on cardio, while Bodyart is a combination of functional training and yoga postures with classical breathing techniques to create flowing rhythms, build strength and encourage mental relaxation.
