Why Yoga Is Good For You Yoga has been designed to unite your mind, body and spirit and has been based on the yogic premise that the body and the mind are one and by correctly practicing yoga the body can actually reach a place of harmony and repair itself. Yoga and yoga classes have increased in popularity in the past few years and one of the reasons yoga classes have become so popular these days is that as a workout it provides many health benefits. Yoga allows you to become more aware of your body – your postures, the way you move, your alignment. Yoga classes help people feel more centred and relaxed, more energetic, less prone to stress, happier, healthier and more peaceful. A yoga class – in general includes breathing and mild stretching exercises, these are performed to help participants both physically and mentally. Most yoga classes consist of performing yoga poses, either linked or in flows with a short period of meditation or relaxation (called Shavasana) to end the class. There are many different forms of yoga you can practice, in a way it’s like choosing a yoga class – go to as many different style classes as you can – Creative Hatha Yoga, Divine Vinyasa Yoga, Acrovinyasa, Hatha Yoga, Hot Hatha, Power Yoga, Yin Yoga etc and find the class and style that’s right for you. Different yoga classes and forms produce different benefits – Yoga classes that help correct body alignment often use *props* such as cushions, straps and blocks while Hot Hatha is performed in a hot room where you will enjoy a deeper stretch and flush toxins from your system. Most yoga classes focus on strengthening and breathing exercises. What CAN yoga classes do for you? Yoga is extremely beneficial if you want to improve your flexibility, muscle strength and circulation, of course the added benefit is with yoga it is more than just being about the physical – it also promotes relaxation

and calm. One of the very basic tenets of yoga is to help balance all areas of a person’s life through improving emotional, spiritual and physical health. Yoga has been practiced and studied for thousands of years and while the practice is ancient the principles have been studied and proven – by modern medicine – to be beneficial. Yoga has been found to produce 3 effects on the body – biochemical, psychological and physiological. Some of the physiological benefits are – ● Decrease in blood pressure ● Better hand/eye coordination ● Increased cardiovascular efficiency One of the best thing about taking up a yoga class is on its own it can do more for your body than other forms of exercise and it can be fitted into even the busiest lifestyle.
