Kosciuszko: A Search For Young Australia Nick Brodie Australia’s highest mountain, Mount Kosciuszko, is a dangerous place. Evan Hayes was an ordinary Australian battler. Hardworking, likable. Laurie Seaman was a world-wise American. Adventurous, affluent. When this athletic pair of cross-country skiers disappeared into the wilds of Kosciuszko they left a mystery, and became a sensation. Following their trail,Kosciuszko reveals the story of a young Australia between wars. This is a history of a mountain, flowing from a journey. And of a world, seen from a mountain.

DRAF T

C OV E R

When Evan and Laurie went missing in August 1928, Australia’s Snowy Mountains were remote. Traversing the globe from New York’s Long Island to Siberia to Sydney and beyond Charlotte Pass, with shipboard romance and industrial strife along the way, this is the story of two very different people growing to manhood in a world of change. Accompanied by a diverse cast including motor car enthusiasts and aviators, bushmen and horsemen, trackers and journalists, this is the true story of a meeting of peoples and nations.

This is history in a land of legend. From the world-famous to the nearly-forgotten, Kosciuszko is more than a mountain, it is a collective heritage, part of Australia’s sense of self. Evan and Laurie are guides to this vantage point, to a time and place that deserves to be better known. At Kosciuszko, Australians came together in peacetime. And they did so simply because two mates vanished.

Author Details Nick Brodie is a professional history nerd. He has a doctorate in late medieval vagrancy, worked as a field archaeologist, taught at university for a decade, and now writes a growing suite of acclaimed popular histories. Nick loves mysteries, lateral thinking, and books that are erudite and accessible. Covering the broad sweep of Australian history in 1787: The Lost Chapters of Australia's Beginnings ; Kin: A Real People's History of Our Nation , The Vandemonian War, and now Kosciuszko, Nick brings fresh angles to old tales.

Root to Bloom A Modern Guide to Whole Plant Use Mat Pember

C OV E R

Little Veggie Patch Co. favourite Mat Pember is back!

DRAF T

Root to Bloom equips readers with the knowledge and tools to grow, eat and celebrate every edible part of the plant (just as the noseto-tail movement has recast people’s understanding and appreciate of meat). The book will explore the lesser-used parts of a plant that are often snubbed in favour of the produce we’ve come to expect. It includes a comprehensive rundown of 35 edible plants (from coriander to onion to sweet potato), covering extra components of edibility, including flowers, roots and weeds. It educates people about ideal growing conditions, the nutrition level of the parts, as well as activities on how to prepare/preserve them for eating – with recipes (such as Japanese pickled sweet ginger, pickled nasturtium pods, and broccoli leaf coleslaw). As well, it includes six breakout chapters on key related topics: medicinal; herbicides; skin care; weeds/foraging; the orchard; and preserving flowers.

Mat Pember is the founder and creative director of Melbourne’s The Little Veggie Patch Co, a business established a decade ago specialising in the design, installation and maintenance of chemical-free vegetable gardens for urban dwellers. As well as writing books (he has co-written six best-selling Little Veggie Patch Co. books), he is a regular contributor to Gourmet Traveller and The Herald Sun. Root to Bloom is his seventh book. After a 15 year career in interior design, Jocelyn Cross took a step back to begin what would become Petite Ingredient, a now leading supplier of organic edible flowers and leaves to the best chefs in Asia and Australia. With a life-long penchant for floristry and passion for cooking and design, growing edible flowers was in retrospect a surprising but obvious career transition. She is now director, general manager, gardener, innovator, researcher and team leader at Petite Ingredient, based in Melbourne's Yarra Valley. Root to Bloom is her first book.

• • •

Root to Bloom has broad appeal for both gardeners and cooks. It speaks to our growing desire to waste less (we consider root to bloom a natural extension of the nose-to-tail movement) and its informative chatty style means it's accessible as well as inspirational. The package and price mean it is a particularly attractive gift purchase while at the same time the flexi format emphasises function and useability. Mat Pember has established a significant following with his Little Veggie Patch books and his first-time coauthor Jocelyn Cross is well regarded in her in field as a supplier of organic edible flowers and leaves to leading chefs around Australia as well as in Asia. National marketing campaign and publicity campaign on release with interviews, extracts and reviews across lifestyle, gardening and food media.

Ultimately, Keg Bottle Can's message is that the beer world is a broad church – and there really is something for everyone. And that while it's fine to drink a beer out of a bottle at a barbecue, if you pair it with food there are nice glasses for it too. Readers will walk away with the confidence and knowledge to do both, rather than feeling bound by hard and fast rules.

Author Details Born and raised in Westport, New Zealand, Luke Robertson studied journalism at the Southern Institute of Technology before moving to Australia in 2005. While working for a media analysis company, Luke used his spare time to create Ale of a Time. The beer-focused blog and podcast soon became one of Australia's most well known places to find news and commentary about the growing beer world. After winning the Australian International Beer Awards Media Trophy in 2015, Luke gave up his corporate job and reinvented himself as a freelance writer and event host. Now writing for publications such as Beer & Brewer, Broadsheet, and Good Beer Hunting (US), Luke also works closely with beer festivals such as GABS and Melbourne's Good Beer Week, providing words and hosting public tastings. In everything he does, Luke loves to celebrate beer, food, and the culture that surrounds both. When he's not spending his days in bars and breweries, you'll usually find him in his kitchen baking bread, cooking for family and friends, or making negronis for himself.

Key Information • •

• •

Keg Bottle Can has broad egalitarian appeal - from the avid 'only beer' drinkers to those whose choice of tipple is influenced by where they are, what they're eating, who they're with – and what they feel like! An informative and approachable writing style means that the book speaks to everyone from the most serious beer geek to the casual Saturday afternoon beer lover who is up for being more informed about their choices and is always happy to flaunt some newly acquired smarts. In a fast-changing industry, the book's up-to-date information, including exciting new players, provides the ultimate resource. 150 beers from around Australia are featured, ranging in style from easy-drinking lagers and pale ales to more challenging brews such as gose and raspberry-choc pilsner.

C OV E R

Discover the coolest places in Manhattan and Brooklyn in this beautifully designed guidebook to NYC.

DRAF T

When most travellers dream of New York City they picture the island of Manhattan, with its Art Deco skyscrapers, grand museums and cinematic streetscapes. And while 'the Island' remains the beating heart of high culture and the birthplace of 1960s bohemia, the flourishing borough of Brooklyn has more recently piqued the curiosity of visitors and locals alike. Situated on Long Island, the borough of Brooklyn's melting pot of immigrants and artists has fostered a vibrant new music, food and arts culture. New York is the city you know intimately from books and movies, but along with its familiar landmarks, it also nurtures many hidden treasures that can only be found with the help of local knowledge.

Pip continues to write culture stories from NYC for Australian newspapers and other media, as well as contributing to Gotham and Hamptons magazines. She is currently a Senior Editor of Tina Brown Live Media’s Women in the World , in association with The New York Times , and is a founding co-editor and contributor to the specialist women’s travel website Holiday Goddess . New York has been one of the great loves of Pip's life. She's lived in downtown Manhattan and in Brooklyn, and vacations on Fire Island in the summer. She Felt Like Feeling Nothing r.h. Sin From the bestselling author of the Whiskey, Words, and a Shovel series comes this poetic reminder of women's strength. There are moments when the heart no longer wishes to feel because everything it's felt up until then has brought it nothing but anguish. In She Felt Like Feeling Nothing, r.h. Sin pursues themes of self-discovery and retrospection. With this book, the poet intends to create a safe space where women can rest their weary hearts and focus on themselves.

Author Details Born in New Brunswick, N.J., and later moving to Florida, r.h. Sin comes from a place where a life of pain is the norm and destruction is a constant. Through an early love for reading and writing, r.h. Sin was able to pull away from some of the social distractions that plagued so many of his peers. After returning to the Northeast and moving to New York in pursuit of love, the young modern poet found that and much more. Publication

Most people start with authentic pizza and flatbreads cooked at high temperature, and Genevieve Taylor talks you step-by-step through the foolproof way to achieve the world's best-tasting wood-fired pizza. But these ovens are infinitely more versatile, and she goes on to show how you can roast and grill (everything from Portuguese clams with white wine, garlic and coriander to Kebabs and Cheese toasties), then bake as the oven starts to cool (Beetroot focaccia with goat's cheese and sage, and even Fig, honey and brandy clafoutis), and ultimately use the dying embers to slow-roast (Lamb shoulder with fennel) or simply leave to cook overnight (dishes like Barbecoa beef brisket and Overnight porridge). With The Ultimate Wood-Fired Oven Cookbook, you'll master both the equipment and your cooking, getting the best out of your oven and your fuel, and enjoying the most delectable, memorable food you've ever eaten.

Author Details Genevieve Taylor is a food stylist and author of five books including How to Eat Outside. She writes regularly for Olive and Sainsbury’s magazines, is the co-chair of the Guild of Food Writers and has co-presented Radio 4’s The Food Programme. She is based in Bristol.

Rosé Cocktails Julia Charles The go-to choice for easy warm-weather drinking, here rosé wine also makes the perfect ingredient in 40 refreshingly different summer cocktails. The recent rise of rosé as THE summer drink started with the arrival of ‘frosé’ (a cheeky concoction of fruity frozen rosé blended with strawberry syrup and served slushie-style) but bartenders worldwide are now turning their attention to the pink stuff (in all it’s styles from dry and crisp to ripe and sweet) and using it as the base for more complex, sophisticated drinks. Some are subtly spiked with vodka, gin, whisky or tequila, others are sweetened with sticky fruit-based liqueurs such as Cointreau and cassis, some are sharpened up with tangy citrus juices like pink grapefruit and lime, a few are pinned with the herby note of rosemary and basilinfused syrups or accented with delicate floral cordials, such as elderflower and rose. Rosé also works beautifully in a fruit-filled summer punch, served in large bowls or pitchers and packed with juicy orchard and berry fruits. Here you’ll find recipes for all styles of recipe from short to long, flat to sparkling, tart to sweet and fun to fancy. Choose an elegant sparkling aperitif such as a Pom Pom or a Blackberry Bellini; a sophisticated sipper like the Rosy Glow or Pink Gimlet; a long refresher like a minty Rojito or Spanish Copa de Frutas; or an tooth-tingling icy treat such as a Twisted Frosé or Raspberry and Rosé Caipirinha; or why not share the good news with friends and fill a bowl with Just Peachy Punch or serve up a pitcher of Bourbon and Blue Iced Tea. The Island Poké Cookbook Recipes Fresh from Hawaiian Shores, from Raw-fish Bowls to Pacific Rim Fusion James Gould-Porter The Hawaiian people have a laid-back love of life, and Island Poké is a London restaurant committed to sharing this ethos and the authentic flavours from these shores in over 65 recipes. Poké (pronounced Po-Keh) means to ‘slice’ or ‘dice’ in Hawaiian but it has evolved to become the Hawaiian staple of sliced raw fish served on rice with many condiments and toppings. James, the author and founder of Island Poké, became hooked on this delicacy as a child on the beach in Maui. Fast-forward a couple of decades, James sensed a gap in the market for an authentic and sustainable approach to Hawaiian cuisine. Thus, Island Poké was born fusing the joy of real Hawaiian food, which is a delicious fusion of many cuisines including Polynesian, Japanese, Chinese, South American, Pacific Rim and even Portuguese influences. The book includes recipes for popular poké dishes sold in the restaurant such as classic Spicy Ahi and Golden Beetroot with Chilli Lime Shoyu. There are multicultural Pacific Rim inspired dishes such as Sea Bass Crudo, Teriyaki Salmon Chirashi and Baja Poké Tostadas. Famous Luau feasting recipes include Kalua Pork, Pacific Chowder and Huli Huli Chicken. Finally, a chapter showcasing tropical brunches and bakes includes Acai Bowls and Courgette and Pecan Loaf.

Project Fire Steven Raichlen Fire up the grill! Raichlen is back, with an all-new collection of 100 recipes for the grill, following the tremendous success of

Project Smoke. Where there’s Smoke there’s Fire! And where there’s fire, there’s Steven Raichlen. Following the breakout success of Project Smoke, the New York Times bestseller that brought Raichlen’s Barbecue! Bible® series to a new generation, comes Project Fire — a stunning, full-colour celebration of the best of contemporary grilling from America’s master of live-fire cooking. No one knows his way around a grill like Steven Raichlen, and no one is better equipped to teach us how to deliver its best performance. Drawing on a combination of classic and boldly contemporary techniques, here are 100 inspired recipes that capture the full range of what grillers want to cook today. Consider your basic steak. Raichlen starts with the iconic — Tbone grilled over direct heat, smartly tattooed with grill marks and lavished, the way the pros do it, with sizzling beef fat. Then he teaches a technique new to most of us — reverse-searing, which allows you to grill a monster steak, like a beef tomahawk, to perfection while also imparting a haunting smoky flavour. Of course, there’s a Caveman Sirloin — meat seared right on the coals, as dramatic as grilling gets.

Scientists tell us that living by the ocean makes us happier and healthier: increased views of blue space have a calming effect and sea air improves our ability to absorb oxygen. Being by water brings a sense of tranquillity and relaxation and a home by the sea has never been more desirable. The first part of the book offers up Sally’s unique take on coastal style, celebrating the colours and textures of the seaside: bare wooden boards, uncurtained windows, and furnishings covered in robust linen or cotton that will endure salt water and the sun’s rays. Dario Fusaro is considered one of Italy's leading garden photographers. He is the author of Gardens of Beauty and Private Italian Gardens.

Key Information • •

Surrounded by mountains, Lake Como combines breathtaking scenery with lush flowering gardens, which are renowned all over the world. The author, an historian of architecture and gardens, explains why prominent Italian families have chosen Laken Como to build their splendid palazzi and gardens. Each garden represents the time when it was designed: magnificent Renaissance and Baroque Italian gardens, 19th century English landscape gardens, early 19th century romantic natural designs, and 20th century sanctuaries for rare botanical species. For centuries, Lake Como has been chosen by wealthy families as a favourite holiday location. Lake Como remains an internationally renowned tourist destination thanks to the unique scenery and the historical importance of places such as the medieval town of Como. The specific climate conditions (hot summers, temperate winters, rainy mid-seasons) support the gardens famous for their luxurious flowers. Several of the palazzi are now luxury hotels, such as the renowned Grand Hotel Villa D'Este.

Japanese bicycles are the crème de la crème of the fixed-gear/track bike phenomenon, with NJS bicycles – bikes built strictly for fixed-gear racing in Japan – the most coveted on the market. The book includes photographs of extremely rare and collectible bicycles, as well as ephemera and manufacturers' manuals that have never been seen outside of Japan. The author is a passionate collector of Japanese cycles and an authority on Japanese culture, having lived and worked in Japan and worked as a designer for top Japanese bicycle brands. This is the first book of its kind on the market, which is saturated with books on French and Italian bicycles but until now hasn't had the right authoritative author to produce something definitive on Japanese cycles. The book features all-new specially commissioned photography which will delight cycling fetishists regardless of Japanese niche.

Please Do Not Touch And Other Things You Couldn't Do at MOSS, the Design Store that Changed Design Murray Moss From 1994 to 2012, MOSS was at the epicentre of contemporary design. A design gallery by name, MOSS was reallyconsidered by the adoring press and the cognoscente the high church of design, and Murray Moss was its pope. This is his memoir. For almost twenty years, there was no cooler place for high design than MOSS, the groundbreaking New York design gallery. By combining the exclusivity of art (the gallery opened in Soho when it was the exclusive playground of art galleries), the glamour of fashion, and the theatricality of Broadway – MOSS the gallery itself became a stage and a catwalk, where design broke all barriers to be an important player. Murray Moss, the impresario behind the shop, became the leader arbiter of good and outrageous taste, along with his partner Franklin Getchell. He was able to present Philippe Starck lighting one week, 18th century porcelain the next, and Tupperware in-between. By mixing high and low, Moss the man and MOSS the gallery shifted the design conversation from the galleries of MoMA to a storefront in SoHo. Moss has been called "America's most closely watched purveyor of industrial design" (Washington Post ), while his store has been called "the best design store in the world." (International Herald Tribune ). This is Murray Moss' and Franklin Getchell's charming, witty, and revealing story of how two struggling stage actors conquered, and redefined, the world of high design.

Design is now a fully integrated part of the cultured life – this book brings us back to the very beginning of that era. No book on the history of the last 25 years of contemporary design exists. This will be considered to be the design bible for many. Witty and urbane, Moss and Getchell are natural storytellers and entertainers (who happened to be actors before moving into design). They are also legends in the field of design and highly respected. The book will have a wide audience, from readers who lived through the MOSS years (people still speak of it in awe) to those new to the design world and want to know more. The 90s are now considered to be 'history' for many young readers, who are nostalgic for this period. This will be a mist-read for them.

50 Ways to Wear a Scarf has resonated big-time since it was published in 2014. Ali On Ali Why He Said What He Said When He Said It Hana Ali with Danny Peary A collection of Muhammad Ali’s most memorable quotes, with explanations of their origins by his daughter and biographer, Hana Ali. Muhammad Ali was a champion, a poet, a prophet. Sports Illustrated called him “the greatest athlete of the twentieth century.” And yet he was even more than all of that, “a whole greater than the sum of its parts...bigger, brighter, more original and influential than just about anyone of his era” (Barack Obama). He got there with his fists, with his actions, and above all, with his words. Compiled and written by his daughter Hana Ali, with sportswriter Danny Peary, Ali on Ali brings together a remarkable mix of Ali’s 70 most humorous, poignant, inspirational, political, and philosophical quotes, all with their origins. Here’s Ali’s enduring boast, “I am the greatest!” — and how it was inspired by professional wrestler Gorgeous George. The story behind one of the most memorably poetic lines of the century — “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” The heard-round-the-world defiance of “I ain’t got no quarrel with them Viet Cong,” and its moving context. And the stories behind quotes ranging from outrage — “We been in jail for 400 years,” to inspiration — “I hated every minute of training, but I said ‘Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion,’” to that infectious combination of humour and bravado — “If you even dream of beating me you better wake up and apologise.”

Mind Platter Najwa Zebian From celebrated Lebanese-Canadian poet and speaker, Najwa Zebian, comes this revised and expanded edition of her debut collection. Mind Platter is a compilation of reflections on life as seen through the eyes of an educator, student, and human who experienced her early days in silence. It is written in the words of a woman who came from Lebanon to Canada at the age of sixteen and experienced what it was like to have fate push her to a place where she didn't belong. It is written in the voice of every person who has felt unheard, mistreated, misjudged, or unseen. The book contains over 200 one-page reflections on topics we encounter in our everyday lives: love, friendship, hurt, inspiration, respect, motivation, integrity, honesty, and more. Mind Platter is not about the words it contains, but what the reader makes of them. May this book give a voice to those who need one, be a crying shoulder for those who yearn for someone to listen, and inspire those who need a reminder of the power they have over their lives.

Author Details Najwa Zebian is a Lebanese-Canadian author, speaker, and educator. Her passion for language was evident from a young age, as she delved into Arabic poetry and novels. The search for a home — what Najwa describes as a place where the soul and heart feel at peace — was central to her early years. When she arrived in Canada at the age of sixteen, she felt unstable and adrift in an unfamiliar place. Nevertheless, she completed her education, and went on to become a teacher as well as a doctoral candidate in educational leadership. Her first students, a group of young refugees, led her back to her original passion: writing. She began to heal her sixteen-year-old self by writing to heal her students. Since self-publishing her first collection of poetry and prose in 2016, Najwa has become an inspiration to millions of people worldwide. Drawing on her own experiences of displacement, discrimination, and abuse, Najwa uses her words to encourage others to build a home within themselves; to live, love, and create fearlessly.

Trans issues are recently highly visible in mainstream discourse. Art that deals with diverse identity issues — particularly art that has an empowering message for young people going through a similar journey — has been both culturally important and commercially successful. There are several highly successful comics franchises that feature queer themes or characters (Lumberjanes, Bitch Planet, etc.). But even within LGBTQ+-friendly works, trans issues and characters are underrepresented. Julia's Up and Out Instagram has 112k followers, and the comic has been widely covered by outlets like the Huffington Post and BuzzFeed. She has connections in the webcomics world – she was recommended to AMP by Sarah Andersen – and at Disney, where she works. A unique empowering message packaged in a familiar form. Trans readers are hungry for art that speaks to their experience and many lay readers want to be better informed and more sensitive about trans issues. The challenges of gender transitioning are unique, but some of the emotions involved are relatable to anyone who has struggled with body image and self-esteem.

The Royal Navy 100 Years of Maritime Warfare in the Modern Age Julian Thompson This book examines how the Royal Navy protected our shores and wider interests through the First World War and the one that was to follow, from the northern patrol lifelines of the Atlantic, Arctic and Mediterranean convoys and increasingly sophisticated amphibious operations that would mark it out in the Second. The book ends with chapters on The Falklands War and Royal Navy's anti-piracy role and involvement in humanitarian crises. This visually stunning volume is complemented by 15 loose facsimile documents that include letters and diary entries, war reports and other items of memorabilia that bring an immediacy to the events being described. Without the Royal Navy in two World Wars, Britain would have at best lost, and worst ceased to exist. This book salutes the services's incredible achievements over the last 100 years. Publication

Somebody's Mother, Somebody's Daughter Victims and Survivors of the Yorkshire Ripper Carol Ann Lee InSomebody’s Mother, Somebody’s Daughter, Carol Ann Lee tells, for the first time, the stories of those women who came into Sutcliffe’s murderous orbit, restoring their individuality to them and giving a voice to their families, including the twenty-three children whom he left motherless. Much has been written about the brutal crimes of Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper, and – thirty-five years after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of at least thirteen women – scarcely a week goes by without some mention of him in the media. In any story featuring Sutcliffe, however, his victims are incidental, often reduced to a tableau of nameless faces. But each woman was much more than the manner of her death, and in Somebody’s Mother, Somebody’s Daughter, Carol Ann Lee tells, for the first time, the stories of those women who came into Sutcliffe’s murderous orbit, restoring their individuality to them and giving a voice to their families , including the twenty-three children whom he left motherless.

Based on previously unpublished material and fresh, first-hand interviews the book examines the Yorkshire Ripper story from a new perspective: focusing on the women and putting the reader in a similar position to those who lived through that time. The killer, although we know his identity, remains a shadowy figure throughout, present only as the perpetrator of the attacks.

Author Details Born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, in 1969, Carol Ann Lee graduated from Manchester University. Three years later, her first book, Roses from the Earth: The Biography of Anne Frank was published to great acclaim, and has been published in fifteen countries to date. She went on to write several more best-selling books, including biographies and fiction, returning to non-fiction in 2010 with One of Your Own: The Life and Death of Myra Hindley, A Fine Day for a Hanging (2012) and The Murders at White House Farm (2015).

Key Information • • •

A compelling and detailed account of the women, their families and the cultural and political melting pot from which the crimes emerged. Based on first-hand research, including interviews with the women who survived the attacks and with the victims’ families. A wholly unique perspective on this horrific case – from the point of view of the women who were involved and their families.

Engineering For Cats Mac Delaney A humorous and practical guide to making 10 DIY projects, from a cat water fountain to feline bunk beds, that solve everyday cat-people problems. There may be over 3 million pet cats in this country, but who says that means they’re domesticated? Sure, they clean themselves, use a litter box, a3nd hunt rodents, but cats are also territorial beasts who think furniture is meant for claw sharpening, and that running water is always better than still. In this inventive, surprisingly funny, and highly entertaining and practical book, Mac Delaney addresses the quirks of cat behaviour through the mindset of an aerospace engineer (because that’s what he is!) — and gives us 10 projects that solve the most common sources of friction affecting cats and their doting owners.

Real, doable DIY projects that really work. But there's humour and delight in the idea and the execution of "engineering for cats" — just like there is in toilet training for cats (and Workman's book on cat toilet training has 136,000 copies in print in two editions). Not just for fun, these projects offer solutions to problems that cat owners face every day. These clever projects help a cat owner meet a feline's needs (water, security, a high perch) without sacrificing style (or your own furniture!). Author Mac Delaney is an aerospace engineer at United Technologies in San Diego — and lives with two cats. He's designed these projects using his engineering expertise and created the step-by-step illustrations (featuring cats!) in the engineering drawing system he uses for work.

Differently Wired Raising an Exceptional Child in a Conventional World Deborah Reber A revolutionary book of practical advice and inspiration for parenting "differently wired" (neurologically atypical) kids. This book offers hands-on strategies for families experiencing the isolating, frustrating, and stressful experience of parenting a child who doesn't fit the mold, so they can parent from a place of confidence, peace, and acceptance, allowing their unique kids to thrive. Today millions of kids are stuck in a world that doesn't respect, support, or embrace who they really are — these are what Deborah Reber is calling the “differently wired” kids, the one in five children with ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger’s, giftedness, anxiety, sensory processing disorder, and other neurodifferences. Their challenges are many. But for the parents who love them, the challenges are just as hard — struggling to find the right school, the right therapist, the right parenting group while feeling isolated and harbouring endless internal doubts about what’s normal, what’s not, and how to handle it all. But now there’s hope. Written by Deborah Reber, a bestselling author and mother in the midst of an eye-opening journey with her son who is twice exceptional (he has ADHD, Asperger’s, and is highly gifted), Differently Wired is a how-to, a manifesto, a book of wise advice, and the best kind of been-there, done-that companion. On the one hand it’s a book of saying NO, and how it’s time to say no to trying to fit your round-peg kid into society’s square holes, no to educational and social systems that don’t respect your child, no to the anxiety and fear that keep parents stuck. And then it’s a book of YES. By offering 18 paradigm shifts — what she calls “tilts” — Reber shows how to change everything. How to “Get Out of Isolation and Connect.” “Stop Fighting Who Your Child Is and Lean In.” “Let Go of What Others Think.” “Create a World Where Your Child Can Feel Secure.” “Find Your People (and Ditch the Rest).” “Help Your Kids Embrace Self-Discovery.” And through these alternative ways of being, discover how to stay open, pay attention, and become an exceptional parent to your exceptional child.

Author Details Deborah Reber is a bestselling author, certified life coach, and speaker who has spent the past fifteen years writing inspiring books for women and teens. However, raising a twice-exceptional son and experiencing the heartaches, headaches, confusion, and unexpected gifts that are typical for parents raising these exceptional kids sparked a transformation in her passion and led to a conscious shift from the realm of teen advocacy to the world of supporting the millions of parents who are raising unique kids. She launched TiLT Parenting — a website, podcast, and social media community — in April 2016, where she is building a community of supportive parents of neurodiverse children.

A "differently wired" child might be sensitive, struggle with anxiety, ADHD, or Asperger's, face learning differences like dyslexia, or be highly gifted (or some mix of these — many of these kids are "twice exceptional"). How the child is defined is irrelevant to the wise advice in this book; it's not about treating Asperger's or conquering anxiety, it's about parenting that embraces a child for who he or she is. At the core of Reber's message is that a child's different wiring is a difference, not a deficit. Her parenting advice focuses on embracing a child's differences, to help parents raise their differently wired kids from a place of choice, confidence, and peace that encourages their children and families to thrive. Differently Wired goes directly against the prevalent parenting paradigm that embraces fitting in, labeling differences, and quick fixes for any behavior that appears outside the norm. It teaches parents to let go of expectations, advocate for their children, and most of all to be present, rather than distracted by the "what ifs" of the future. Author Deborah Reber — mother to differently wired Asher, age 12 — is jump-starting a parenting movement and hearing from parents daily that they have finally found a community of understanding on her podcasts and website. The way that Susan Cain's Quiet developed into a rallying cry for the introverted, Differently Wired is poised to create a strong, passionate community of parents.

Clever, playful, and charming, this book is imbued with a comedic take on a relatable fear that will delight young children, while its unique art style will stand out on the shelf. From The Enormous Crocodile to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, crocodiles are perennially popular with kids, and more than a few authors (Roald Dahl, Shel Silverstein, William Steig) have hinted at the hilarity of a dentist facing against them, as well as other dangerous animals. Facing the ever familiar fear of the dentist will strike a chord with readers: An estimated 75 percent of US adults experience some degree of dental fear or anxiety, and the prevalence in children and adolescents is formidable as well. Beyond the dentist hook, this book is about empathy, and the reader is uniquely positioned with a window into both perspectives and the big emotional reactions. This dynamic take on a multiplicity of perspective allows children and their caregivers to talk about emotions, as well as about coping skills for managing the "toothy" ones.

The subject matter here combines two very commercial ideas in a very appealing way. Dinosaurs are a destination topic for parents. Because dinosaurs tend to be a major phase for a lot of kids, they are a perennially popular topic. At the same time, a new spin on them is always welcome, because there are so many dinosaur books out there – so this book will be a welcome addition to those shelves. The book is funny. The type of humour is also very broad, and evident immediately, which means this book will do very well with anyone who so much as thinks they like funny books. This book will appeal to children in a subject matter that many of them go through phases of being obsessed with.
