Concept Kazmir Malevich
The concept for this design originates from the work and reaction on the work of Russian architect Kazmir Malevich (1879 - 1935). Malevich was a predecessor to the Cubists. He designed works such as black square and white one white. Although very geometrically uncomplicated and singular, the concept and context are loaded with both meaning and in the same sense absence of meaning. This is what Malevich refers to as Superbalism.
Ad Reinhardt
His student, Ad Reinardt, duplicated the work of Malevich. Upon closer inspection however, one notices his exact directional brush strokes. These were used to create direction and substance in the work itself, albeit minimalistic it might be.
Artem Moiseev
Another interesting interpretation is found in the work of Artem Moiseev, who reinterpreted black square in creating a Russian Type Font.
Both these developments tie in and could be seen as a type of code embedded and hidden in under the surface of the obvious, the language of the Moiseev alphabet and the incognito meaning of Reinharts work can be projected to a modern day concept of the QR code.
Surface handling Surfaces will be treated with either embossing or UV Spot Vinyls or both. The subtle difference is a reference to the work of Ad Reinardt. Spot Vinyl and Embossing can however not be used for Computer generated image recognition such as QR codes. In order to work effectively, QR codes require adequate contrast. This can be achieved by making a cutout of the code. This can then be placed against a light background to achieve the required effect.
