Dear Members, 2023
has raced by in the blink of an eye, nevertheless, these several months have been exciting for us. We have had various activities and programmes to nurture and help our members as well as the industry to achieve further growth and new milestones.
I am excited to share that many of our members had the opportunity to exhibit at the recent ARCHIDEX 2023, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event welcomed scores of local and international visitors, giving our members greater visibility as well as potential business and collaborative opportunities. YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Local Government Development, graced the event and officiated the opening ceremony. Read about it in this issue of our magazine.
In bringing the industry together, MIIP organised several successful networking sessions that gave our members and industry partners the opportunity to interact and build strong working relationships. Through these networking sessions, we have fuelled collaborations and paved the way for business opportunities. We aim to continue to organise more of such sessions to further strengthen the industry and drive progress.
I must say that we also had a great time at our recent MST Golf networking event, where our members had the chance to meet each other and build stronger business relationships. Our members also participated in the 4th BMDAM Golf Tournament and had a wonderful time on the par course. It was encouraging to see our members excited about these events and participating actively.
MIIP believes that as much as we are blessed, we must also give back to society and reach out to the needy. This is exactly what our members did recently when we reached out to the En Yuan Old Folks Home. Our members donated various essential items as well as cash donations to the home management and its residents. In fact, we spent a truly meaningful day with the residents, helping to cheer them up while also having lunch with them. We will be carrying out more such initiatives in the next few months, so if you missed this initiative, we welcome you to join us in the next one.
Read about the rest of our activities and exciting programmes that MIIP has organised over the last few months. I encourage all our members to actively participate in the upcoming activities so that we can make an impact in the industry and fuel progress.
To all our members, thank you for your support thus far, and I look forward to your continued commitment and participation in MIIP’s future events and initiatives.
Looking forward to seeing all of you at our events and programmes and I wish you continued success and progress in the future.

Laudable environment goals from TOLI
Japanese linoleum maker TOLI Corporation is a 104–year–old company steeped in product innovation and beauty. At the turn of the century, the company compliments this with solid environmental protection goals that are both commendable and exemplary.
Japanese linoleum maker, TOLI Corporation, has been in the business of making vinyl tiles, vinyl sheets and carpets from its base in Itami, Hyogo prefecture, for more than 100 years. In fact, it is distinguished as the country’s first linoleum producer.
At the turn of the century, sensing the needs of the time, TOLI Corp made a commitment to embark on environmental
protection goals using the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The company said that care for the environmental is important. As such, they aim to reduce the environmental impact from their business activities and contribute to a sustainable society.
SUSTAINABLE PLAN
Nagashima Motohiro, President and Representative
Director of TOLI, who was recently in Malaysia, said that to make its contributions to the environment meaningful, the company projected its targets for recycled ratio, industrial waste and carbon dioxide emissions.
For recycled ratio within the emission of TOLI factories, logistic centre and headquarters office, it aims for more than 90% by 2030. The company has set to reduce more than 60% of industrial waste

between 2019 and 2030. Where carbon dioxide emissions are concerned, the company aims to reduce by 30% compared to its emissions in 2020.
“Among the 17 goals of SGDs, TOLI Group will give priority to No 12, that is Responsible Consumption and Production, and also to numbers 3, 7, 9, 11 and 13,” he said.
“We aim to realise a sustainable society by reducing the impacts to the global environment and creating new values that contribute to an affluent spatial environment in the world.”
ENVIRO THEMES
TOLI has picked three important themes for its ‘Eco Spirit’ corporate movement. Firstly, is the reduction of industrial waste and promotion of resource saving and recycling. Within this theme, the company will strive for the development and supply of eco-friendly products and services; it will promote recycling in business activities; reduce industrial waste in business activities and enhance post-consumer recycling in

accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Environment. A second theme the company has espoused is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the promotion of energy saving. Here, TOLI again aims for the development and supply of ecofriendly products and services; and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and promotion of energy saving in the entire supply chain activities.
The third theme focuses on corporate activities with
an awareness on safety and security. TOLI will pay keen attention to indoor environments; and enhance environmental globalisation activities.
QUALITY PRODUCTS
Today, with manufacturing plants also in Atsugi, Shiga, Toyama and Gifu, TOLI is synonymous with environmentalfriendly quality products. The company now also produces curtains, wall coverings and many other related interior products.
“We make every effort to be customer-oriented, striving to run our business by always keeping our customers’ needs in mind in order to become an even more dependable and trustworthy company,” said Nagashima.
TOLI’s commitment to environmental protection is well received by its business partners and its customers. For its Malaysian market, the company aims to promote two products, namely the TDS Hitoe Fine lowmaintenance vinyl sheet and the TDS Super K Sheet chemicalresistant, antibacterial, antistatic vinyl sheet.
The former has fine sand-like texture and with deep colour tones. It is the ultimate plain pattern in pursuit of beauty and texture with a thickness of 2mm. It also has an antibacterial and antivirus finish with a highly durable UV-coated surface.
The Super K Sheet is a multifunctional vinyl sheet with highdensity cross linking. It is chemicalresistant, and its antibacterial and antistatic features make it a good choice especially in laboratories.
LOCAL DISTRIBUTOR
TOLI products are now available in Malaysia. Local
6
laminated flooring producer Inovar Industries Sdn Bhd, a forward-looking company founded in 1996 by Tam Pak Cheong, is its local distributor.
Tam was instrumental in bringing laminate floor to the Asia market through technology transfer from Germany.
Today, Inovar is the leading brand in Malaysia, with offices in Singapore, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Taking advantage of the tropical hardwood High Density Fiberboard, that are readily available locally, Inovar has successfully exported its products to more than 40 countries.
TROPICAL SOLUTIONS
Inovar Executive Director Jason Tan said tropical hardwood has better water-resistant properties due to its high-density fibers and natural oil content. This augurs well in a humid environment. It is also best for Asian consumers who tend to mop their floors regularly.
Having established itself as a household name in the floor coverings industry, Inovar decided
to expand through product development and diversification in 2016. Incorporating resilient flooring like vinyl and textile-based flooring, such as carpet title, is both complimentary and strategic to Inovar’s business model. Finding the right premium products and partners is crucial going forward.
Inovar has since worked closely with reputable producers from Japan, South Korea and China under the OEM supply chain model. With this, Inovar has been able to maintain a strong market position both locally and in the global arena.
Tying up with TOLI Corporation is a step forward for the company to cross the threshold into larger market segments such as the healthcare, commercial and transportation industries. These are high volume, high value, high growth segments, especially in this region. Demand is expected to rise in tandem with the growing healthcare tourism industry.
TOLI, with its vast experience, technical know-how and industry knowledge, will serve well in giving Inovar much-needed support.
TOLI and Inovar held a signing ceremony on July 12, 2023 at the prestigious KL Wellness City, Kuala Lumpur. TOLI will service the market through its Asian regional marketing office in Singapore.
Moving forward, Inovar is expected to grow its range of healthcare floorcovering products as it incorporates its Nano Technology coating. TOLI’s range of resilient flooring products, meanwhile, will provide a strong impetus for the company to strengthen its supply proposition to its customer base.
Tan believes that Inovar, with its wide range of floorcovering products, strong collaboration with reputable producers, like TOLI and Fusogosei Co Ltd from Japan, and a broad customer base across ASEAN, will continue to grow.
Its strong commitment towards corporate social responsibility, will see Inovar using materials that comply with international standards and requirements for better environment protection, workers’ safety and good corporate governance.
