Neighbourhood Project

1

NeighbourhoodProject……… Aim: • To apply the knowledge of spatial design principles and processes in the context of social and familial habitats. • To apply principles of aesthetics, function, and narrative in complex design strategies. • To effectively integrate and communicate conceptual and technical concepts in written, verbal, and graphical form.

Brief: In the neighbourhood design project, we were supposed to observe and research various markets of Delhi where mixed use of spaces takes place, i.e., shops, offices, etc along with residences under the same roof. Students were further divided into groups and were allotted plots namely, A,B,C and D, in the same area. Each plot had an area of 150 sq meters (each floor) and every student was further asked to write a narrative story of their client and also design a mixed use space according to their requirements. Parameters like their family background, individual tastes, culture they follow, believes etc had to be kept in mind.

NeighbourhoodProject Mrs. Verma, a fashion stylist, owns a ladies Salon on the ground floor. According to her brief she wanted specific defined areas for different activities taking place in the salon. For instance, rooms for waxing, facial and body massage, an area for pedicure and manicure/ nail art, a bridal room (to give privacy to the bride), and space for makeup and hair styling. Along with it she required a small pantry, a powder toilet, a staff changing room and a laundry room in her salon.

Convention Center

6

ConventionCenter(Bihar

Pavilion)………

Aim: • To expand the design awareness into larger, more unfamiliar contexts and increased complexity. • To apply complex knowledge of spatial design principles and processes in the context of collective and public (commercial and institutional) environments. • To apply principles of aesthetics, function, and narrative in complex design strategies.

Brief: For the convention centre project, students were divided into groups of 4-5, and 1 site was alloted to each group. In the first step research was done about the site and case studies were done on different convention centers. My group was alloted Bihar Pavilion in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi as a site. Convention center had to be designed within an area on 500 sq meters and area wise brief was given to us:

• • • • • • •

Foyer and Reception - 80sq meters. Meeting room - 110sq meters. Multipurpose halls - 140sq meters. Toilets - 40sq meters. Service area + store - 40sq meters. Office space - 30sq meters. Kitchen - 25sq meters.

7

ConventionCenter N

The convention centre was designed keeping in mind its orientation, spatial and technical aspects. The main idea was to make the space lively and remove all possible dead areas in the design. The main principles of the convention centre are Horizontality, Porosity and Flexibility.

Brief: In this project, a recreational and an interpretation area had to be designed in Spark Mall, Kamla Nagar, covering an area of 200sq meters and catering 20-30 people. Area for recreational space was 120sq meters and interpretation space was 80sq meters.

I choose to design a fine dining restaurant in Spark Mall as a lack of family togetherness was noticed in the mall. There was no space designed for a family earlier. In my design, indoor seating is provided in such a way that there are various seating options of tables of 2,4, etc.

Oxford House

12

OxfordHouse(Project

done at AUB,UK)………

Aim: •

To develop an appropriate response to the demands of a professional brief and the limitations and possibilities of working with an existing building,

To develop work that shows an awareness of contemporary trends, styles and subject matter, within interiors.

To develop a professional standard of creativity, practical ability and aesthetic judgement in a design project through the creative use of materials and finishes,

To develop appropriate communication techniques as they apply to the illustration of diverse interior spaces.

Front Elevation

Brief: Background research was required to be done for the student accommodation selected out of the list of serviced accommodations. Existing drawings of Oxford House were gathered and CAD drawings had to be developed further.(plans/sections/elevations). In the next stage a particular area had to be selected out of the designed project and details had to be provided. (plans/sections/building elevations/3D drawing/3D renders.) Side Elevation 13

TextilesAndInteriors

The idea of this activity was to use the tie and dye technique and stitching on a cotton fabric and then further digitalise and use the newly created patterns on interior spaces. Main idea was to give a merge textile techniques and interiors and give it altogether a new language and perspective.
